She believes that, this financial boost will significantly improve the lives of Ghanaian youth by providing them with access to capital and job opportunities.

In an interview with Joy News on Friday, September 6, Nana Frimpomaa emphasized the importance of prioritizing the youth, noting that they have been neglected for too long.

She highlighted the need to address their challenges and ensure that every young Ghanaian has access to financial resources and meaningful employment opportunities.

Elaborating on her plan, she said, “I will raise $20 billion annually and make sure every Ghanaian youth has access to $1,000. The reason I am quoting this amount in dollars is that after my government is in place, there will be no more need for quoting in foreign currency, as the Ghanaian economy will stabilize, and prices will remain consistent.”

Nana Frimpomaa further explained that, the reliance on the dollar in Ghana’s economy is a symptom of a flawed system that causes daily fluctuations in prices. “By the time I take over, if $20,000 is the equivalent in Ghanaian cedis, every young person will know they have 20,000 cedis. Within two years, however, we will resolve the dollar problem in this country.”

She emphasised that her focus will be on human capital development rather than large infrastructure projects. “I plan to invest this $20 billion not into major infrastructure, but directly into the youth, empowering them with the resources they need to succeed in various sectors of the economy.”

Illustrating how her plan would work in practice, she said, “For example, if a young entrepreneur is selling iced kenkey, they will be able to access innovative systems and funding that will allow them to scale up their business. They could pool resources with others to invest in equipment that improves the quality of their product, package it better, and expand their reach.”

Nana Frimpomaa also vowed to phase out the practice of street hawking and similar activities, such as selling goods in traffic, within a decade. She emphasised, “I don’t want to see any young person having to carry goods on their head just to earn a living. It’s not a future I want for my children, grandchildren, or any Ghanaian.”

She made it clear that the $20 billion she plans to raise will not be borrowed but will come from innovative business strategies. “I’ve been an entrepreneur all my life. I will not borrow this money. I know how to generate revenue through business, and that is what I plan to do for Ghana,” she concluded.

Ghana’s leaders have disappointed the youth – CPP Chairperson https://www.adomonline.com/ghanas-leaders-have-disappointed-the-youth-cpp-chairperson/ Mon, 11 Mar 2024 12:39:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2367447 The Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma says it is disheartening that successive governments have failed to fulfill their promises to the Ghanaian youth.

She says even after 67 years, Ghana still lacks economic independence, and there is little evidence to demonstrate the benefits of our dependence.

Speaking on JoyNews on March 11, Mrs Kumankuma pointed out that Kwame Nkrumah promised Ghana economic independence and was actively working towards that goal until his overthrow.

“Yes, we are entitled. Nobody should take our liberty from us. Going for independence is not something that we have even been clapping for. We sent invaders away, but there was a reason why that group of people or those groups of people then did what they did because enough was enough for them. They wanted to see themselves able to manage and govern themselves so they could have access to quality housing, education, and a better living standard. That is what everybody is looking for, and that is what has evaded the Ghanaian youth,” she said on Monday.

Mrs Kumankuma emphasised that only individuals employed in the public sector enjoy a relatively better standard of living.

She pointed out that the majority of Ghanaians are petty traders who sell essential items such as onions, to make ends meet.

The CPP chairperson noted that, for many Ghanaians, having any form of employment, even if it pays little, is deemed acceptable as long as it enables them to survive.

“The country is only focused on a small percentage in terms of the public sector and a few people. A chunk of the members of this country are on their own. There must be no celebration of independence until we can at least be on the path of economic independence.”

Onzy Nkrumah files injunction against CPP Chair https://www.adomonline.com/onzy-nkrumah-files-injunction-against-cpp-chair/ Tue, 22 Mar 2022 14:27:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2094326 The Vice-Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Onzy Kwame Nkrumah, has filed an interlocutory injunction against the Chairperson, Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma seeking to stop her from performing her leadership duties.

The application, filed by the son of Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, is seeking six reliefs.

Mr Nkrumah, per his statement of claim, is seeking “A declaration that Defendant, having gotten 43% of the total valid votes cast nationally, did not obtain the minimum constitutional requirement of 50% +1 and therefore, has not been validly elected by CPP Delegates as Chairperson and leader of the Party and cannot hold herself as such.

“A declaration that Defendant having not been validly elected as Chairperson and leader of the Party, cannot carry out any CPP Executive function or participate in any such CPP Executive activities.”

He is also asking for “A declaration that all decisions, as well as any contractual arrangements made by Defendant on behalf of the CPP, are not binding on the Party.”

He also wants “An order directed at Defendant to render account for the period she has held herself out as Chairperson of the Party, including both tangible and intangible assets, donations, contributions, etc. that she has superintended.”

The plaintiff is also asking for “cost including lawyer’s fees” and “any other relief(s) the Honourable Court deems fit.”

Statement of claim:

Onzy Nkrumah, the Plaintiff, described himself as “a citizen of Ghana and the 1st Vice Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).”

According to him, the Defendant is also a citizen of Ghana and purports to be the Chairperson of the CPP.

CPP Chairperson, Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma

He said, on August 22, 2020, the CPP held a National Delegates Conference throughout the 16 Regions to elect National Executives of the Party, in which both parties took part.

He said, while he won the Vice-Chairperson election convincingly with the highest votes cast, the Chairperson secured only 43% of the total votes cast nationally, which was short of the constitutional requirement of the Party’s 50% + 1 minimum requirement for the said position.

“Plaintiff says that Defendant, with this constitutional deficiency, still carries herself out as having won the said elections and holding herself out as an elected Chairperson of the Party.

“Plaintiff says that Defendant never won the said elections and cannot hold herself out as an elected Chairperson of the CPP, which she knows she has not constitutional achieved.

“Plaintiff presents that all efforts to make Defendant realise that she has not been constitutionally elected as the Chairperson and leader of the CPP and for her to stop holding herself out as such have proven futile. However, Defendant’s conduct is seriously misleading, as right-thinking members of society will engage her as such, which is very detrimental to the reputation and interest of the CPP,” he stated.

Court Today

In court on Tuesday, when the case was called for hearing, lawyers of the Defendant led by George Ankomah Mensah indicated to the court that, they have filed an application yesterday to set aside the writ.

But, the High Court (General Jurisdiction ) presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Gifty Agyei Addo, said there is no such application on the court’s docket.

The case has since been adjourned to April 4, 2022, for the hearing of the application to set aside the writ of the interlocutory injunction.

Both Onzy Nkrumah and Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma were not present in court but were represented by Samuel Yemofio and Joyce Osei Bonsu.

The latest application comes on the back of a similar application filed by two other officers of the party which was later struck out as withdrawn after the parties settled the matter out of court and the terms of settlement adopted as a consent judgment by the court.
