I am the second most criticised person after John Mahama, says GFA boss Kurt Okraku https://www.adomonline.com/i-am-the-second-most-criticised-person-after-john-mahama-says-gfa-boss-kurt-okraku/ Fri, 29 May 2026 13:38:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667127 Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku says he is the second most criticised public figure in the country, behind only President John Mahama.

Okraku made the remarks during the launch of the GFA’s UK Talent Identification Programme, where he reflected on the intense public scrutiny surrounding his role and football administration in Ghana.

According to the GFA boss, football discussions across the country frequently centre on his leadership, making him a constant subject of criticism.

“I am not too sure that in our country, there are more than two people who are more criticised than my good self,” he said.

“You take the president of the country out, the next most criticised person is Kurt Okraku.

“Each radio station has dedicated airtime to football, and believe me, every second of the day, the name Kurt Okraku is mentioned.

The GFA boss also referenced the backlash that followed the announcement of Ghana’s latest squad by head coach Carlos Queiroz.

“The Black Stars squad was released by head coach Carlos Queiroz. Go on social media and see who is attacked, it’s Kurt.”

His comments come as Ghana continues preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Cardiff, where the Black Stars are holding camp ahead of international friendlies against Wales on June 2 and Jamaica on June 10.

The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia as they seek to reach the World Cup knockout stage for the first time since 2010.

Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before taking on England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. The Black Stars will wrap up their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.

GFA holds first UK talent ID camp to track Ghanaian prospects abroad https://www.adomonline.com/gfa-holds-first-uk-talent-id-camp-to-track-ghanaian-prospects-abroad/ Fri, 29 May 2026 07:00:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667124 Around 40 UK-based footballers of Ghanaian heritage participated in the Ghana Football Association’s maiden UK Talent ID camp as the association intensifies efforts to build a stronger future Black Stars squad.

The camp, which was held in Bromley, brought together players between the U15 and U20 age groups who are currently developing in some of England’s top Category One academies.

Several highly-rated prospects from clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton took part in the programme, giving Ghana’s technical team the opportunity to assess some of the most promising dual-national talents in the United Kingdom.

The event was organised through a partnership involving the GFA, Coach Hene Sporting Club, Ghanaians in the UK and Prince Lamona Consult.

GFA Technical Director Prof. Joseph Kwame Mintah and FIFA Talent Coach Stuart McLaren supervised the sessions alongside coaches from Coach Hene Sporting Club, monitoring and evaluating the players throughout the camp.

The initiative forms part of the GFA’s long-term strategy to identify Ghanaian talents abroad at an early stage and strengthen connections between such players and the various national teams.

Many of the participants are already attached to elite academies known for producing Premier League stars and senior internationals, making the exercise an important opportunity for Ghana to monitor their development closely.

With several European countries increasingly competing for the services of dual-national players, the GFA has stepped up its overseas scouting efforts in a bid to widen its talent pool.

The camp also offered the players a platform to showcase their abilities directly to Ghana’s technical handlers while gaining insight into the pathway towards representing Ghana at both youth and senior levels.

Following the success of the maiden edition, the GFA is expected to continue monitoring the players as part of a broader project aimed at strengthening Ghana’s youth and senior national teams in the coming years.

The partnership will support the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup, as well as the Ghana Premier League and women’s football competitions across the country.

“As part of this partnership, three vehicles will be presented as rewards for excellence during the 2026/2027 football season,” he said. “One vehicle will go to the Ghana Premier League champions, another to the Women’s Premier League champions, while the third vehicle will be awarded to the Best Player in the Black Stars setup.”

He further disclosed that cash rewards would also be presented to outstanding performers in the domestic leagues.

“We are also introducing cash incentives for the Best Player in the Ghana Premier League, Best Player in the Women’s Premier League, Coach of the Season in the Ghana Premier League, and Coach of the Season in the Women’s Premier League,” Mark Addo added.

The sponsorship agreement is expected to provide a major boost to Ghana football, while motivating clubs, players, and coaches to strive for excellence both on and off the pitch.

Vision FC charged by GFA over misconduct in All Black United clash https://www.adomonline.com/vision-fc-charged-by-gfa-over-misconduct-in-all-black-united-clash/ Tue, 05 May 2026 14:36:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2658818 Vision FC have been charged by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for alleged breaches of the body’s Disciplinary Code, 2019, following their Ghana Premier League fixture against Swedru All Blacks.

In an official statement, the GFA indicated that the charges relate to the club’s purported failure to guarantee the safety and security of match officials both during and after the encounter.

The club has also been cited over acts of misconduct involving sections of its supporters in the aftermath of the game, raising concerns about crowd control and adherence to league regulations.

The Football Association stressed that the alleged offences represent serious violations, particularly with regard to the protection of match officials and the maintenance of order at match venues.

The development could prove significant for Vision FC, who are currently fighting to retain their top-flight status. Potential sanctions, including points deductions or restrictions on hosting matches, may further impact their campaign if found guilty.

Vision FC have been given until Wednesday, May 7, 2026, to respond formally to the charges, with the club expected to submit its account of events alongside any supporting evidence.

Attention now shifts back to on-field matters, as Vision FC prepare to face Young Apostles in their outstanding Matchday 30 fixture in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Sports Minister clarifies government funding for GFA officials ahead of 2026 World Cup https://www.adomonline.com/sports-minister-clarifies-government-funding-for-gfa-officials-ahead-of-2026-world-cup/ Mon, 04 May 2026 07:05:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2658129 Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has clarified government policy on travel arrangements for officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, confirming that not all executive members will have their trips funded by the state.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, the Buem MP explained that while government will support key officials, Executive Council members will not benefit from state-funded travel.

“The government will not fund the travel of Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the World Cup,” he said.

He added that specific officials, including GFA President Kurt Okraku, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, and members of the Management Committee, will be catered for.

“However, the General Secretary, the president of the GFA, and Management Committee members will be taken care of, but the government will not fund the trips of any Executive Council members,” he stated.

Ghana, four-time African champions, will make their fifth appearance at the Mundial in North America, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The Black Stars will open their campaign on June 17 against Panama, face England on June 23, and conclude their group-stage matches against Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, head coach Carlos Queiroz’s side will step up preparations with international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.

“If I die today for speaking the truth, I’ll be remembered for it” – George Afriyie https://www.adomonline.com/if-i-die-today-for-speaking-the-truth-ill-be-remembered-for-it-george-afriyie/ Mon, 27 Apr 2026 14:56:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656079 Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has launched a strong critique of football administration in Ghana, insisting he will not be silenced even in the face of potential consequences.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Afriyie said the current state of the domestic league reflects deep-rooted problems, including declining patronage and alleged unfair treatment of clubs.

“People are not telling the truth,” he stated, pointing to low attendance figures. “If Hearts of Oak is playing All Blacks, in the past it would attract fans. But after such a game, the gate proceeds were just GHC4,000.”

He accused football leaders of ignoring criticism and surrounding themselves with praise singers.

“If you are an FA President and you are unbothered and want people to sing praises for you, then get those who will do that instead of listening to critics,” he said.

Afriyie cited a pattern of controversies in recent seasons, including clubs withdrawing from the league and unresolved disputes.

“In three consecutive years, before the end of the league, a club pulls out. Hearts of Lions decided not to continue because of cheating and unfair treatment,” he claimed.

He also referenced the controversial Nsoatreman versus Asante Kotoko incident, which resulted in a fatality, questioning decisions taken afterward.

“The Head of FA security and CID Boss, Lydia Donkor, said the incident had nothing to do with Nsoatreman, yet they were banned,” he noted.

According to him, the aftermath of the incident left key investors disillusioned.

“When the FA President returned, he visited Kumasi but failed to go to Nsoatre to engage Baffour-Awuah. From that day, he absolved himself from Ghana football because he felt he didn’t belong there,” Afriyie alleged.

He further cited what he described as unfair treatment of Hohoe United, a club linked to former minister Peter Amewu.

“They acted on an issue months later only when the club was playing the FA President’s team and moved the game to Tema, which is the second home of Dreams FC,” he claimed.

Despite the risks, Afriyie maintained he would continue to speak out.

“One day born, one day die. I am heading to my 50s, I am not a small boy. If I speak the truth and I die today, I will be remembered as the man who lived for the truth,” he stated.

We nearly crippled Alisa Hotel — George Afriyie on Black Stars coach accommodation costs [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/we-nearly-crippled-alisa-hotel-george-afriyie-on-black-stars-coach-accommodation-costs-audio/ Mon, 27 Apr 2026 13:08:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656098 Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has revealed that the association once accumulated heavy debts from accommodating Black Stars coaches at the Alisa Hotel, to the extent that the hotel nearly suffered financial strain.

His comments come amid renewed debate over how newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will be housed during his stay in Ghana.

Ahead of Queiroz’s unveiling last week, the GFA confirmed that the Portuguese trainer would be lodged in a hotel, explaining that the official residence for the national team coach, located at Airport City, had been converted into a technical hub due to limited use by previous occupants.

“The official house allocated for the Black Stars coach has been converted into office space…, but for his first time coming to Ghana, he will be accommodated in a hotel,” Sheikh Sienu told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite Show.

However, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday, April 27, Afriyie offered a different perspective, pointing to what he described as the financial strain caused by long-term hotel accommodation during the tenure of former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

“In the Kwesi Nyantakyi era, we were crippling the government with Black Stars coach accommodation expenses. To the extent that the GFA almost collapsed Alisa Hotel with debts from the Black Stars coach living at the hotel,” he stated.

Audio below:

The decision to move away from using the official residence has since sparked public criticism, although Sheikh Sienu has defended it, describing it as a practical step aimed at improving the administration and development of Ghana football.

Meanwhile, Carlos Queiroz is expected to continue staying in a hotel as he settles into his role and begins preparations with the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Even if GFA is paying, is it public funds? — ExCo member questions critics over Carlos Queiroz’s hotel stay [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/even-if-gfa-is-paying-is-it-public-funds-exco-member-questions-critics-over-carlos-queirozs-hotel-stay-listen/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 10:30:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654951 A member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Sarfo Oduro, has defended the Association’s handling of accommodation and financial arrangements for national teams and coaches, insisting that such matters are often misunderstood by the public.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he explained that the relationship between the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports involves shared responsibilities, especially when it comes to travel and logistics for national teams.

“We don’t serve the public in that sense. If we do, the public will clap for us,” he said, stressing that both institutions work within agreed roles.

He noted that affiliate bodies such as Beach Soccer fall under the GFA structure, and sometimes responsibilities overlap between the Association and the Ministry.

“When they were travelling, it was the responsibility of the Ministry of Sports to book tickets for them,” he stated.

He further explained that in some cases, the GFA steps in when government support is not immediately available.

“For the U-15 girls, when they were travelling to Zimbabwe, we paid their tickets. For the U-17 girls who went to Togo recently, their hotel bills are still outstanding,” he revealed.

According to him, this shared arrangement makes it difficult to clearly separate responsibilities when it comes to new issues such as the accommodation of Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz.

“We have a relationship, so if the new coach has come, who pays the hotel bill and who doesn’t? It’s not a simple issue,” he said.

Responding to public criticism, he dismissed concerns over the matter, arguing that GFA expenditure should not be treated as public funds scrutiny.

“If GFA is one of the funding, is it public funds? GFA spending is not public funding, so I don’t see why people should cry over it,” he stated.

He also questioned media reports on the issue, insisting that even journalists raising concerns may not have full details of the payment arrangements.

“As we speak, the journalists who raised this issue don’t even know who is paying the hotel bills,” he said.

Asked directly who is responsible for paying the new coach’s hotel bills, he responded:

“We have a marriage. If it reaches there, we will cross it. We have an understanding on who pays what.”

He added that the issue should not be overblown, noting that previous coaches have also been accommodated in hotels.

“This is not the first time a coach is staying in a hotel. Coaches have stayed in hotels and we have paid,” he said.

His comments come after the Ghana Football Association confirmed that newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will be accommodated in a hotel upon arrival in Ghana.

According to GFA Communications Director Sheikh Tophic Sienu, the five-bedroom official residence in Accra’s Airport Residential Area—previously allocated to the national team coach—has now been converted into office space.

Coach Queiroz is expected to be officially unveiled on April 23, 2026, as the GFA begins a new phase for the Black Stars.

GFA reschedules Matchday 30 games after tragic death of Dominic Frimpong https://www.adomonline.com/gfa-reschedules-matchday-30-games-after-tragic-death-of-dominic-frimpong/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 16:34:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654681 The Ghana Football Association has announced that Matchday 30 of the Ghana Premier League has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following the tragic death of forward Dominic Frimpong.

The decision comes after Frimpong lost his life in a robbery attack on the team bus of Berekum Chelsea FC. The incident occurred after the club had honoured their league fixture against FC Samartex.

In a statement, the GFA said the postponement is not only in honour of the late player but also to give Berekum Chelsea additional time to recover from the traumatic incident.

The revised schedule will allow the football community across the country to mourn and pay tribute to Frimpong during what has been described as a deeply difficult period.

According to the GFA, the Premier League will continue with Matchday 31 fixtures between May 1 and May 4, 2026, while a new date for the postponed Matchday 30 matches will be confirmed in due course.

All remaining fixtures from Matchday 31 through Matchday 34 are expected to proceed as originally planned.

As part of the tributes, players and officials across all Matchday 31 fixtures will wear black armbands, with a minute of silence to be observed at every venue in honour of Frimpong.

The gesture is also intended to support his family, friends, and former clubs, including Berekum Chelsea and Aduana FC.

George Afriyie slams GFA over timing of Carlos Queiroz’s announcement after tragic death of Dominic Frimpong https://www.adomonline.com/george-afriyie-slams-gfa-over-timing-of-carlos-queirozs-announcement-after-tragic-death-of-dominic-frimpong/ Tue, 14 Apr 2026 13:08:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651260 Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has criticised the timing of the announcement of the Black Stars’ new head coach, describing it as poorly judged following the death of Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong.

Frimpong died after sustaining gunshot wounds during a violent armed robbery attack on the team’s bus while returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex 1996 on Sunday, April 12.

However, the GFA on Monday, April 13, announced Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars on a short-term deal, replacing Otto Addo.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Afriyie expressed disappointment in the GFA Executive Council, accusing it of lacking empathy and failing to adequately honour the late player.

He also extended his criticism to club administrators, arguing that more could have been done to observe a day of mourning in Frimpong’s memory.

“The GFA does not have empathy and sympathy. The entire Executive Council should bow their heads in shame for not setting aside even a single day to mourn Dominic Frimpong, and I also blame the club owners,” he stated.

According to him, football authorities could have delayed the announcement of the new Black Stars coach, insisting that the timing sent the wrong message.

“The best we could do for this young man who lost his life was just to devote yesterday to mourn. We can talk about the Black Stars coach on any day; couldn’t we have used just one day?” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the attackers as investigations continue.

GFA demands justice over death of Dominic Frimpong https://www.adomonline.com/gfa-demands-justice-over-death-of-dominic-frimpong/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 08:59:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650641 The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has called for swift justice following the death of Berekum Chelsea striker Dominic Frimpong, who was killed in a violent armed robbery attack on Sunday night.

Frimpong, who was on loan from Aduana FC, lost his life after the team bus was ambushed on the Bibiani–Goaso road as the squad returned from their Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 fixture against FC Samartex, which ended in a 1–0 defeat.

According to reports, armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle, forcing players and officials of Berekum Chelsea to abandon the bus and flee into nearby bushes in a bid to escape the attack. Several members of the travelling party sustained injuries during the chaos.

The injured striker was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was later pronounced dead on arrival.

In a statement, the GFA expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a devastating blow not only to Berekum Chelsea but to the entire Ghanaian football community.

“This tragic incident is not only a huge loss to Berekum Chelsea but also to Ghana football as a whole,” the Ghana FA said.

The Association said it is working closely with Berekum Chelsea, the Ghana Police Service, and other relevant authorities as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

It also urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice, adding that it is in constant communication with the club and relevant authorities as probes continue.

The incident has reignited longstanding concerns over player safety and security during league travel, with several Ghana Premier League clubs in recent years reporting similar highway attacks while on official duty.

According to reports, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, triggering panic among players and officials. In a desperate attempt to escape, members of the team fled into nearby bushes.

Amanda Clinton backs Fernando Santos for Black Stars coaching job https://www.adomonline.com/amanda-clinton-backs-fernando-santos-for-black-stars-coaching-job/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 06:44:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650497 Former Ghana Football Association presidential aspirant Amanda Clinton has called on the football governing body to appoint Fernando Santos as the next head coach of the Black Stars.

The GFA is expected to name a new head coach in the coming days following the dismissal of Otto Addo after Ghana’s March international friendlies.

Addo was relieved of his duties after a disappointing run that saw the Black Stars suffer a 5–1 defeat to Austria and a 2–1 loss to Germany in their World Cup preparation matches.

Several high-profile names, including Carlos Queiroz, Fernando Santos, Paulo Bento, Tom Saintfiet, and Slaven Bilić, have been linked to the vacant position.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, Clinton expressed strong support for Santos, describing the former FC Porto, Beşiktaş and Portugal manager as the ideal candidate to revive the national team.

She argued that Ghana would benefit from an experienced coach of his calibre, pointing to his track record at international level.

“The Black Stars will do very well if we get a good coach like Santos, who led Portugal to great success, so if we get a good coach and excellent people on the team… of course, we can win,” she said.

Santos enjoyed a successful managerial career, winning the Portuguese league with FC Porto before guiding Portugal to the 2016 European Championship title and the UEFA Nations League.

A new head coach is expected to be announced this week as Ghana intensifies preparations for upcoming international assignments.

The Black Stars will regroup in May for a friendly against Mexico before facing Wales on June 2 in their final warm-up match ahead of the World Cup in North America.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Appoint a coach who understands our local football culture – Fred Pappoe urges GFA https://www.adomonline.com/appoint-a-coach-who-understands-our-local-football-culture-fred-pappoe-urges-gfa/ Sat, 11 Apr 2026 07:30:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650176 Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice-President Fred Pappoe has called on the football authorities to appoint a coach who understands the country’s football culture and can quickly improve the Black Stars.

The GFA is in search of a new head coach following the dismissal of Otto Addo, with less than three months to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Addo was relieved of his duties after Ghana suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna and followed it up with a 2-1 loss to Germany in Stuttgart during the March international window.

Several experienced managers, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, have been linked with the vacant position.

Speaking to Graphic Sports, Pappoe stressed that while opinions may vary on the next appointment, the incoming coach must be given full authority to manage the team without interference.

“These are very detailed specifics that I think should be left to the coach,” Mr Pappoe told the Graphic Sports. “I can express my wish or opinion, but especially in this situation, whichever coach is appointed now must be left to work. The coach knows best the players he needs. For me, my opinion or preference doesn’t matter.”

He further emphasised the need for a tactician who can adapt quickly, inspire the squad, and operate effectively within existing structures without requiring a long adjustment period.

“He must be a coach who can start quickly, with a deep understanding of the local football culture, the players and the national psyche,” he said. “I believe that will be the kind of coach I will look out for.”

The GFA is expected to confirm a new head coach next week, as indicated by Sports Minister Kofi Adams, ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies against Mexico in May and Wales on June 2.

Ghana will then turn its attention to the 2026 World Cup, where they open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27. The Black Stars will be aiming to improve on their group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.

It was a poor decision to reappoint Otto Addo – Kudjoe Fianoo blasts GFA https://www.adomonline.com/it-was-a-poor-decision-to-reappoint-otto-addo-kudjoe-fianoo-blasts-gfa/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 08:52:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649842 Former Black Stars Management Committee member Kudjoe Fianoo has launched a scathing attack on the Ghana Football Association (GFA), accusing the body of disregarding its own selection criteria in the reappointment of Otto Addo as head coach.

Addo, 50, was handed a 34-month contract on March 15, 2024, returning to lead the national team following the dismissal of Chris Hughton after Ghana’s group-stage exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Ghana suffered four consecutive friendly defeats against Japan, South Korea, Austria, and Germany, culminating in his dismissal after the March international window following losses to Austria and Germany.

Speaking to Kessben Sports, Fianoo questioned the process that led to Addo’s appointment, alleging that due procedure was ignored.

“If you look at how Otto got the Black Stars job, it even got to a point where he didn’t want the job again. We brought out a criteria to pick a new coach, and Otto Addo was appointed through a backdoor, which shows those running the football don’t have Ghanaians at heart,” he said.

Fianoo further argued that the GFA missed an earlier opportunity to part ways with the coach after Ghana failed to secure qualification for AFCON.

“An opportunity came to fire him when he failed to qualify the team for the AFCON, but we played around,” Fianoo added.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to name a new head coach next week ahead of the team’s preparations for upcoming international friendlies. The Black Stars are scheduled to face Mexico in May before taking on Wales on June 2.

Ghana will then begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by fixtures against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27, as they seek to improve on recent group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.

GFA Executive Council to hold emergency meeting today to decide on new Black Stars coach https://www.adomonline.com/gfa-executive-council-to-hold-emergency-meeting-today-to-decide-on-new-black-stars-coach/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 06:30:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649711 The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is scheduled to convene an emergency meeting today, April 7, 2026, with the appointment of a new Black Stars head coach expected to top the agenda.

The meeting follows the dismissal of the 50-year-old manager after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats against Austria national football team and Germany national football team in last month’s international friendlies.

The results intensified concerns over the team’s preparedness and overall direction ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With less than three months to the tournament in North America, pressure has mounted on the GFA to stabilise the team’s technical leadership.

A number of experienced coaches, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento and Fernando Santos, have been linked to the role. The Executive Council is expected to assess the options and narrow its choice during today’s meeting.

Following the meeting, the GFA is expected to engage government stakeholders before making an official announcement.

The Association has indicated a preference for a coach with proven international or elite club experience.

Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has suggested that a final appointment could be confirmed by Monday, April 13.

Speaking to Channel One TV Ghana, he said: “If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach.”

Once a new head coach is appointed, preparations are expected to resume in May, with a friendly against Mexico national football team lined up, followed by another warm-up match against Wales national football team on June 2.

Ghana will compete at its fifth FIFA World Cup finals in North America, having been drawn in Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team and Croatia national football team.

Hohoe United charged over Ghana Premier League withdrawal https://www.adomonline.com/hohoe-united-charged-over-ghana-premier-league-withdrawal/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 01:40:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649616 The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formally charged Hohoe United FC following the club’s announcement of its withdrawal from the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

In a statement, the GFA said the club breached Articles 13(1) and 24(6)(d) of the 2025 Ghana Premier League Regulations, accusing it of abandoning the competition without just cause.

The association added that the decision undermines the integrity of the league and brings the competition into disrepute.

Hohoe United have been given until Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to formally respond to the charges.

Competing in their first-ever top-flight season, Hohoe United were battling relegation at the time of their withdrawal, having accumulated 30 points from 27 matches.

The Hohoe-based side failed to honour their Ghana Premier League fixture against Eleven Wonders FC over the weekend, following their earlier announcement to exit the league. Consequently, Eleven Wonders, who are at the bottom of the table, were awarded three points and three goals.

Appoint coach who understands Ghana’s football identity – Fred Pappoe urges GFA https://www.adomonline.com/appoint-coach-who-understands-ghanas-football-identity-fred-pappoe-urges-gfa/ Thu, 02 Apr 2026 06:25:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2647094 Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe, has called on decision-makers to prioritise a coach who understands the country’s football identity as the search for a new Black Stars manager intensifies.

His comments follow the GFA’s announcement on Monday, March 31, confirming the dismissal of Otto Addo after Ghana’s back-to-back defeats to Austria and Germany in pre-World Cup friendly matches.

Weighing in on the criteria for the next appointment, Pappoe emphasised the need for a manager capable of making an immediate impact without requiring an extended adaptation period.

“If we want to go for a coach, we have to go for someone who can hit the ground running; someone who knows our football culture,” he told Citi Sports.

Ghana’s coaching history has seen a mix of local and foreign tacticians, with success often linked to those who demonstrated a strong grasp of the domestic football structure and player dynamics.

Meanwhile, GFA President Kurt Okraku has disclosed that more than 600 applications have been received for the vacant role, with a new head coach expected to be named within the next two weeks.

The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in May for an international friendly against Mexico, before facing Wales on June 2 in their final preparatory matches ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Black Stars: GFA ExCo member says new coach to be named within three weeks https://www.adomonline.com/black-stars-gfa-exco-member-says-new-coach-to-be-named-within-three-weeks/ Tue, 31 Mar 2026 15:05:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2646452 The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to name a new head coach for the Black Stars within the next three weeks, according to Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong.

The position became vacant following the dismissal of Otto Addo after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in their final friendly of the March international window.

That result came just days after a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna, a run of poor performances that intensified scrutiny on the coach.

Addo, who was reappointed in March 2024, had been leading Ghana’s build-up to the World Cup. With his departure, attention has turned to potential successors, with several experienced managers reportedly in contention.

Among the names linked to the role are former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah—currently in charge of Sudan—as well as Walid Regragui, Marc Brys, Hervé Renard and Tom Saintfiet.

Acheampong emphasized that while the GFA is working within a tight timeline, the priority remains appointing the right candidate rather than rushing the process.

“In the next three weeks, we should have our next coach because the next match is in May; however, we need to get it right,” he told Kessben FM.

The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in May for international friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 as part of their preparations for the World Cup.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, with hopes of progressing beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.

Don’t rush in appointing a new Black Stars coach – George Afriyie tells GFA https://www.adomonline.com/dont-rush-in-appointing-a-new-black-stars-coach-george-afriyie-tells-gfa/ Tue, 31 Mar 2026 09:19:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2646276 Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has advised the governing body to avoid rushing into the appointment of a new head coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

The call comes in the wake of the GFA’s decision to part ways with Addo after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart on Monday.

The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach had already come under intense scrutiny after the Black Stars suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna during their previous friendly.

With the FIFA World Cup fast approaching, Afriyie stressed the need for careful planning and wider consultations before naming a successor.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, he insisted that the focus should extend beyond the tournament itself.

“There should be no rush to appoint a new coach,” he said.

“The FA must carry out broader consultations and appoint a good coach not just for the World Cup, but also for a long-term project beyond it,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are expected to regroup in May for their next round of international friendlies, beginning with a fixture against Mexico before facing Wales in their final preparatory match ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Ghana, set for its fifth appearance at the World Cup, has been drawn in Group L, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia.

Kurt Okraku must be blamed for Black Stars coaching mess – George Afriyie https://www.adomonline.com/kurt-okraku-must-be-blamed-for-black-stars-coaching-mess-george-afriyie/ Tue, 31 Mar 2026 09:00:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2646257 Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has placed the blame on FA President Kurt Okraku for the ongoing coaching instability surrounding Ghana’s senior national team.

His remarks come in the wake of Otto Addo’s dismissal following consecutive pre–World Cup friendly defeats against Austria and Germany. The Black Stars suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart, results that ultimately cost Addo his job.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Afriyie criticised the FA leadership for what he described as a lack of stakeholder engagement in key decisions regarding national team appointments.

“When Otto Addo was reappointed, I didn’t support it, and even when he failed to qualify for the AFCON, Kurt Okraku said Otto Addo had been given a project, and we had to support the team and the coach. But all these issues with the Black Stars must be put on Kurt Okraku because he did not listen to good advice,” Afriyie said.

He further questioned the FA’s decision-making process, asserting that the absence of proper consultation has consistently undermined stability.

“His decision-making and appointment of coaches have not been the best. Stakeholders are not being consulted, and I think that’s always a problem because you don’t do that as president of the Football Association,” Afriyie added.

Addo’s exit marks the fifth coaching change under Okraku’s tenure, highlighting a period of frequent managerial turnover.

The GFA is expected to appoint a new head coach ahead of Ghana’s next international assignment in May, a friendly against Mexico. This match forms part of the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where they are set to face Panama, England, and Croatia.

Black Stars no longer fear top teams – Kurt Okraku https://www.adomonline.com/black-stars-no-longer-fear-top-teams-kurt-okraku/ Wed, 25 Mar 2026 15:40:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2643969 President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says the Black Stars no longer fear high-profile opposition as they prepare for friendly matches against Austria and Germany.

As part of the team’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup, Ghana will face the two European sides this month.

Speaking at a fundraiser event in Accra over the weekend, Mr. Okraku highlighted a shift in the national team’s mentality under head coach Otto Addo.

According to him, in the past, fixtures against top teams like Germany would have instilled fear, but the current squad is built on confidence and belief.

“Few years ago, if you heard a fixture like Ghana vs Germany, you’d be afraid. But today, we are very confident,” he said.

“The intangible assets that have been put together by Otto Addo and his team will make Ghana proud,” Mr. Okraku added.

The Black Stars will face Austria on Friday, March 27, before travelling to play Germany in Stuttgart on Monday, March 30.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

According to Kotey, Ghana has the talent and potential to reach the highest level of international refereeing if the right development structures are put in place.

He noted that the vision goes beyond the current pool of officials and includes nurturing a new generation of referees who can compete on the global stage.

“I want to produce a Ghanaian referee capable of officiating a FIFA World Cup final. It is an ambitious target, but one I believe is achievable,” he told Ghana FA media.

“If it doesn’t come from the current crop of FIFA referees we have, then I’m confident it will come from the next generation. Either way, we will get there,” he added.

Currently, Ghana’s top international referee is Daniel Laryea, who was part of the officiating team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.

2026 WC: GFA’s decision to strengthen Black Stars’ backroom staff a right call – Inkoom https://www.adomonline.com/2026-wc-gfas-decision-to-strengthen-black-stars-backroom-staff-a-right-call-inkoom/ Wed, 04 Mar 2026 22:28:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2637292 Former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom has expressed support for the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) recent revamp of the senior national team’s technical staff ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Last month, the GFA announced five new appointments aimed at strengthening the team’s backroom setup. French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren joined as assistant coaches, while Spanish strategist Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso was recruited to enhance scouting and match analysis.

Returning to the fold are Carlos Lozano Romero, the team’s physiotherapist from the 2022 World Cup, and British-born Ghanaian performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

The shake-up has sparked debate among fans and pundits over its potential impact on Ghana’s World Cup campaign. Inkoom, however, sees it as a sign of serious planning and commitment by the football authorities.

Speaking to Connect FM, Inkoom commended both the GFA and the Sports Ministry for their pre-tournament preparations.

“The pre-tournament preparation by the GFA and the Sports Ministry has been great. The new addition to the technical team is a good one. Football is all about preparation, and I am happy we are preparing well,” he said.

The former defender stressed that World Cup success requires more than talent on the pitch, highlighting the importance of tactical analysis and thorough scouting.

“If you’re going to the World Cup without properly monitoring your opponents, the tournament will be very difficult for you, and you won’t enjoy it,” Inkoom added.

Ghana, making its fifth World Cup appearance, has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will face Panama on June 17, England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Preparations include March friendlies against Austria and Germany, followed by a final warm-up match with Mexico in May. The GFA confirmed that the squad will be based at Bryant University in the United States for the duration of the tournament.

I am not impressed with coaching standards in Ghana, it’s poor – Kurt Okraku https://www.adomonline.com/i-am-not-impressed-with-coaching-standards-in-ghana-its-poor-kurt-okraku/ Tue, 24 Feb 2026 22:44:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2634552 President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has raised alarm over the quality of coaching in the country, describing it as “poor.”

Ghanaian football has long grappled with concerns over declining coaching standards, with stakeholders citing outdated training methods, limited access to advanced coaching education, and inconsistent development pathways as persistent challenges.

Speaking at the CAF License A coaching course at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Okraku stressed that the association has consistently identified refereeing and coaching as priority areas needing urgent reform.

He recalled that during the GFA’s 2023 Congress in Kumasi, the Executive Council outlined concrete plans to address these gaps.

“These two key need areas are refereeing and coaching,” he said.

“I have never, never, never been happy with coaching, and I have not stopped talking about this.

“When I say coaching standards in Ghana have been poor, I really mean it,” Mr Okraku added.

The CAF License A programme is part of the GFA’s wider strategy to elevate technical standards in Ghanaian football. It aims to equip coaches with modern training techniques, advanced tactical knowledge, and best practices to enhance player development at every level.

The GFA recently expanded the backroom staff, appointing experienced professionals to bolster the squad’s preparation. French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren have been named assistant coaches.

Spanish tactician Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso joins to enhance scouting and match analysis, while Carlos Lozano Romero returns as team physiotherapist after serving in a similar role at the 2022 World Cup.

British-born Ghanaian performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi completes the revamped technical setup.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite, Afriyie — a former chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee — endorsed the move.

“A 20-man technical team for the Black Stars makes sense. We’ve delayed this modernisation for too long,” he said.

“Kim Lars Björkegren in the Black Stars’ World Cup technical team is not a bad move. Coaching the Black Queens doesn’t make him less qualified,” he added.

After successive group-stage exits at recent World Cups, the GFA is aiming for a stronger showing at the 2026 tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

“What excites me most is the progression of local football,” he said. “Days ago, we witnessed the Super Clash at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, and that was a loud statement about our game, our passion for local football, and the quality of our officials.”

He singled out Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea, describing him as one of the finest referees on the continent and a testament to the strides being made within the domestic football ecosystem.

On the competitive front, the league title race remains intense. After 22 matches, Medeama SC lead the standings with 44 points, while the remaining clubs continue to battle for supremacy. Matchday 23 fixtures are scheduled across the country this weekend, promising more excitement for fans.

Govt to pay salaries of newly appointed Black Stars technical team members – GFA https://www.adomonline.com/govt-to-pay-salaries-of-newly-appointed-black-stars-technical-team-members-gfa/ Sat, 07 Feb 2026 18:56:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2628639 The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that the government will bear the cost of salaries for the newly appointed members of the Black Stars’ expanded technical team.

The clarification comes in the wake of the GFA’s decision to bolster the team’s backroom staff as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

On Friday, February 6, the Football Association announced the appointment of five additional technical personnel.

They include Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Bjorkegren as assistant coaches, Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso as scout and video analyst, Carlos Lozano Romero as team physiotherapist, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi as performance coach.

The announcement sparked public discussion, particularly over the financial implications of increasing the size of the technical team.

Addressing the concerns, Asante Twum explained that the arrangement is temporary and will not place an added burden on the GFA.

“It is a short-term arrangement, and the government has agreed to cover the remuneration of these coaches for the duration of their engagement,” he told Akoma FM.

Ravera and Bjorkegren bring significant experience from European football, while Martínez Alfonso is expected to strengthen the team’s scouting and analytical framework.

Romero’s role will focus on enhancing medical care for players, with Peasah Paa Kwesi tasked with improving physical conditioning and overall performance levels within the Black Stars squad.

Kurt Okraku was disappointed after I resigned as Black Starlets coach – Laryea Kingston https://www.adomonline.com/kurt-okraku-was-disappointed-after-i-resigned-as-black-starlets-coach-laryea-kingston/ Tue, 27 Jan 2026 10:22:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2624097 Former Black Starlets head coach Laryea Kingston has revealed that Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku was unhappy with his decision to step down from the role.

Kingston, a former Black Stars winger, was appointed head coach of the Black Starlets in April 2024 ahead of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship. Ghana’s campaign ended at the semifinal stage following a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso, a result that denied the team a place in the final.

In a surprising turn, Kingston announced his resignation during his post-match press conference, a decision that reportedly disappointed the GFA leadership.

Speaking to Sporty FM, Kingston said Okraku had hoped he would continue in the role but respected his choice to leave.

“Kurt Okraku was disappointed with my decision to leave my role as Black Starlets head coach. It was not about him, but my decision. I had made my decision to quit even before our final game,” he said.

He added that he later requested a meeting with the GFA president to explain his reasons.

“I requested to meet him, and he gave me the chance, and I explained why I resigned. Even though he welcomed my decision, he was disappointed,” Kingston added.

Since stepping down, Kingston has worked in the United States and is currently serving as head coach of Uganda’s youth national teams, contributing to the development of young talents and helping shape the country’s football philosophy.

Asante Kotoko charged over social media post following draw with Samartex https://www.adomonline.com/asante-kotoko-charged-over-social-media-post-following-draw-with-samartex/ Mon, 24 Nov 2025 15:04:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2603340 The Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee has charged Asante Kotoko over a social media post disputing a refereeing decision during their goalless draw with FC Samartex on Sunday in Matchday 11.

The Porcupine Warriors took to X to protest a penalty awarded to the hosts, claiming the foul occurred outside the box. The post read: “Referee Aduntera has awarded a penalty for a foul outside the box.”

The GFA stated that the post had the potential to incite hostility toward match officials and violated Section 34(6)(d) of the Premier League Regulations.

Asante Kotoko has been given until Wednesday, November 26, 2025, to submit their defence.

The club secured a point from the encounter at Samreboi and remain fourth on the Premier League table.

Targets for playing Japan and South Korea achieved despite defeats – GFA https://www.adomonline.com/targets-for-playing-japan-and-south-korea-achieved-despite-defeats-gfa/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 11:52:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602156 Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, says the Black Stars’ recent international friendlies against Japan and South Korea achieved their intended objectives despite both matches ending in defeat.

As part of Ghana’s build-up to next summer’s World Cup, the team played Japan in the Kirin Cup at the Toyota Stadium last Friday, where they lost 2-0. They later suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to South Korea at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, concluding the November international window without a win.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum admitted the results were disappointing but insisted the games were not primarily about winning.

“We had to deal with injuries, and we lost against Japan and South Korea, but the purpose for which these friendlies were played has been achieved,” he said.

He explained that the technical team used the fixtures to assess new players, test tactical variations and evaluate the squad’s readiness ahead of the World Cup.

The Black Stars will regroup in March as preparations continue, with coach Otto Addo and his staff expected to intensify training after Ghana learns its group opponents on December 5.

I have not held talks with Ghana FA – Eddie Nketiah on possible nationality switch https://www.adomonline.com/i-have-not-held-talks-with-ghana-fa-eddie-nketiah-on-possible-nationality-switch/ Sat, 15 Nov 2025 10:39:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600292 Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah has confirmed that he has not engaged in any talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over a potential switch to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Arsenal forward remains eligible to change his national allegiance under FIFA rules.

The GFA has been proactive in courting diaspora talent, including Chelsea’s Joshua Acheampong and Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, as part of its preparations for the global tournament.

Speaking to BBC Africa, Nketiah said: “I haven’t had any calls or anything recently.

“My focus has been on playing well each week and helping my team win trophies. If I’m doing well and doing the right things, then naturally the international future will resolve itself when it’s time to make that decision,” he added.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has suggested that several players who previously declined Ghana’s invitation are now reconsidering their options ahead of the World Cup.

Born in London to Ghanaian parents, Nketiah has not closed the door on representing the West African nation but insists he is in no rush to make a final choice.

GFA provides encouraging update on injured Francis Abu https://www.adomonline.com/gfa-provides-encouraging-update-on-injured-francis-abu/ Fri, 14 Nov 2025 19:31:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600223 The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has offered a reassuring update on midfielder Francis Abu following his frightening injury in the Kirin Cup.

Abu, who plays for Toulouse, was stretchered off during Ghana’s clash with Japan at Toyota Stadium on Friday after suffering what appeared to be a broken ankle in the second half. Alidu Seidu came on to replace him.

In a statement, the GFA confirmed that Abu is now in stable condition after being rushed to Toyota Memorial Hospital for emergency care.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to inform the public that Francis Abu is in a stable condition following his injury in the Kirin Challenge Cup against Japan on Friday. Abu was fouled by Tanaka Ao early in the second half and received emergency treatment at the stadium before being transported to Toyota Memorial Hospital,” the statement read.

The GFA added that the Black Stars’ medical team, in coordination with Toulouse FC’s team doctor and hospital staff, has developed a comprehensive management plan for Abu’s care.

“The Association thanks Ghanaians for their support and solidarity during this difficult time. Updates regarding Abu’s surgery and recovery plan will be provided in the coming hours. We wish him a speedy recovery,” the statement concluded.

On the pitch, Ghana fell 2-0 to Japan and will now prepare for their next friendly against South Korea on Tuesday, November 18, in Seoul, with kick-off set for 10:00 a.m. local time.

GFA, NLA, and Rambell launch nationwide raffle ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup https://www.adomonline.com/gfa-nla-and-rambell-launch-nationwide-raffle-ahead-of-2026-fifa-world-cup/ Tue, 04 Nov 2025 13:43:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596101 The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in partnership with the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and gaming firm Rambell, has launched a nationwide promotion giving fans the chance to experience the 2026 FIFA World Cup live. The initiative was unveiled on Tuesday, November 4, at the GFA headquarters in Accra.

GFA President Kurt Okraku said the promotion is part of efforts to ensure supporters remain at the heart of Ghana’s World Cup journey.

“This is the second time after we failed to qualify in 2018, and we are back to where we belong in world football. Having made it through the hard work of the technical team and the playing body, we at the GFA want to think about the entire country. And for that reason, we cannot go alone and leave the fans behind. In partnership with Rambell and NLA, we have the opportunity to go to the World Cup with the fans,” he stated.

Okraku added that the partnership ensures fans can feel part of the team’s journey. “I want a situation where the players sing the national anthem, and the players will feel the presence of the fans,” he said.

NLA Director-General Mohammed Abdul Salam assured participants of fairness and transparency in the promotion. “We at the NLA are committed to providing transparency, and we are in to ensure whatever we say, we deliver. We believe that Ghanaians who participate in this game will witness this transparency,” he said.

Representing Rambell, Rockson Kondey explained the mechanics and scale of the fan experience. He revealed that 220 supporters will be flown to the World Cup and outlined the participation process.

“Today marks a historic moment for our game. We believe that every Ghanaian deserves a chance to participate, win, and watch the World Cup. With just GHC20, every Ghanaian can win. Fans can join the raffle by dialling 899889#,” he said.

Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, by finishing top of Group I with 25 points and remaining undefeated.

The Black Stars will learn their group phase opponents on December 5.

GFA President sets conditions for foreign-born players ahead of 2026 World Cup https://www.adomonline.com/gfa-president-sets-conditions-for-foreign-born-players-ahead-of-2026-world-cup/ Fri, 24 Oct 2025 02:35:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591880 The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has addressed speculation surrounding foreign-born players eager to represent the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following Ghana’s successful qualification for the tournament, several overseas-based players of Ghanaian descent, including Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Francis Amuzu and other players, have expressed interest in switching allegiance to the national team.

Speaking to 3Sports, Okraku made it clear that the GFA will only welcome players who demonstrate genuine commitment, respect, and love for Ghana.

“To be honest, we treat these matters on a case-by-case basis. I often use my own son, Kurt Junior, as an example,” Okraku explained.

“He was born and schooled in England, and if he were as talented as an Abedi Pele, I wouldn’t deny him the chance to play for Ghana just because he was born abroad. But if he wants to represent Ghana, he must show that he loves, respects, and is committed to Ghana. Thankfully, he visits Ghana every year, so he understands his roots.”

Okraku was unequivocal that the association will not entertain players motivated solely by Ghana’s World Cup qualification.

“I don’t want mercenaries coming to Ghana. I don’t want players jumping on board just because we’ve qualified for the Mundial. I want players who love Ghana, who play from the heart, with passion, and are proud to represent the nation in every competition.”

He further stressed that players who previously turned down opportunities to represent the Black Stars would not automatically be reconsidered.

“I’ve been very categorical; if you refused us in the past or showed disrespect to Ghana, I won’t open the door to you just because we’ve made it to the World Cup.

“I don’t care about what the coach wants in that regard. You must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you want to wear the national colours, that you’re proud to be Ghanaian, and that you’re fully committed to the flag,” he added.

The Black Stars are scheduled to learn their group opponents for the 2026 World Cup on December 5.

2026 WC: Players who have no commitment will not make Black Stars squad – GFA boss Kurt Okraku https://www.adomonline.com/2026-wc-players-who-have-no-committment-will-not-make-black-stars-squad-gfa-boss-kurt-okraku/ Fri, 24 Oct 2025 02:13:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591877 Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has made it clear that players who do not demonstrate full commitment to the nation will not feature in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana secured its fifth qualification to the global tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, reigniting interest from several European-born talents, including Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who have expressed a desire to represent the four-time African champions.

Speaking to 3Sports, Okraku emphasized that only players who show loyalty, respect, and passion for the national team will be considered.

“Players who have not shown enough commitment to the Ghanaian flag will not be part of us. There must be a good reason why a player is included in the travelling party. I want players who display high levels of dedication, passion, and respect for Ghana.”

Okraku further asserted his authority in maintaining the standards of commitment and pride expected of anyone donning the national jersey.

“As a leader, I don’t really care what anybody says. At the end of the day, the responsibility lies with me, and I am accountable for Ghana.”

He added a firm warning to those who have previously declined call-ups or shown disrespect to the national team.

“If we have approached you before and you turned us down, if you’ve shown a lack of respect or declined to play for Ghana in the past, count yourself out. It’s not going to happen,” he added.

Ghana will discover its group-stage opponents for the 2026 World Cup on December 5.

Issues about Otto Addo’s future are premature – GFA https://www.adomonline.com/issues-about-otto-addos-future-are-premature-gfa/ Thu, 02 Oct 2025 16:39:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2584848 Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has dismissed ongoing debates about Otto Addo’s future as Black Stars head coach, insisting the priority remains securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addo’s position has become a subject of public scrutiny following a string of unconvincing performances, despite Ghana’s strong standing in the qualifiers.

The 49-year-old coach is one step away from guiding the team to a fifth World Cup appearance.

Speaking to Woezor TV, Asante Twum urged Ghanaians to rally behind the team rather than dwell on coaching uncertainties.

“At this point, the sole objective of the FA and the ministry is to ensure that Ghana qualifies for yet another FIFA World Cup. It will be great in our history to make it to the USA, Mexico and Canada,” Asante Twum said.

“So, issues about the future of the coach for me at this point are immaterial. The most important thing is for us to go into the game against the Central African Republic, win and seal our qualification, come back to Ghana and beat Comoros, to put a smile on the faces of Ghanaians after that.

“If there is any need whatsoever to think about the future of the coach, I’m sure the authorities will deal with that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Addo has named his squad for the crucial fixtures. Ghana will face the Central African Republic on October 8 at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes in Morocco, before hosting Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12.

The Black Stars currently top Group I with 19 points as they push to secure a place at the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

He further noted that fuel expenses have been excluded from the budget, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) assuming responsibility for those costs.

King Faisal drags GFA to CAS over August 12 Congress https://www.adomonline.com/king-faisal-drags-gfa-to-cas-over-august-12-congress/ Tue, 16 Sep 2025 06:25:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2578844 Division One League side King Faisal Football Club has escalated its standoff with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), challenging the legality of the association’s recent ordinary congress and the resolutions passed.

In a petition dated September 15, 2025, and filed through its legal representatives, Evans Adika Law, the club argued that the GFA acted unlawfully by proceeding with the August 12 congress despite being formally served with a notice of injunction.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) was formally served with a legal challenge to the alleged Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on August 12, 2025, and the resolution allegedly passed during that meeting,” the petition stated.

King Faisal is now seeking redress at CAS in Lausanne, Switzerland, where it is asking the tribunal to nullify the congress and address what it describes as serious governance and procedural breaches.

“This challenge, filed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, seeks to address significant governance and procedural irregularities that undermine the legitimacy of the GFA’s actions related to and during the alleged AGM. King Faisal Football Club asserts that the GFA’s inaction and actions render the August 12, 2025, AGM and its outcomes invalid,” the club stressed.

In its complaint, King Faisal outlined five key grounds for contesting the congress:

  • Abridged notice period without the unanimous consent of members.

  • Undisclosed real and potential conflicts of interest involving the chairperson of the AGM.

  • Improper bundling of issues voted on and instances of over-voting.

  • Denial of a poll after a show of hands.

  • Undue influence.

The club is seeking several remedies from CAS, including:

  • An injunction restraining the GFA from implementing or enforcing the resolutions pending arbitration.

  • A declaration that the August 12 congress and its resolutions are null and void due to conflicts of interest and procedural breaches.

  • An order recusing the GFA Executive Council from participating in remedial measures.

  • An order directing the GFA to amend the Normalisation Statute in line with Ghanaian law and register it with the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC).

  • An order barring the current GFA President from influencing any future amendments to the terms of his office while still in power.

  • Costs and any other relief deemed appropriate by CAS.

King Faisal further cited what it called the GFA’s “longstanding procedural failures,” particularly its failure to deposit the Normalisation Statute with the ORC following the FIFA Normalisation Committee’s tenure from August 2018 to October 2019, as a root cause of continuing governance lapses.

The club’s action represents a major escalation in its feud with the GFA, with the CAS ruling expected to carry far-reaching implications for football governance in Ghana.

Berekum Chelsea explains jersey mishap ahead of GFA hearing https://www.adomonline.com/berekum-chelsea-explains-jersey-mishap-ahead-of-gfa-hearing/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 12:48:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2578670 Communications Director of Berekum Chelsea, Isaac Obeng, has explained why several players appeared without names on their jerseys during the club’s Ghana Premier League opener against Asante Kotoko.

The Golden City Park outfit has been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with multiple breaches of matchday regulations following their 1-0 defeat in the 2025/26 season opener.

During the game, some Chelsea players wore jerseys without proper identification, prompting criticism.

Addressing the issue, Obeng told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show that the mishap was due to a late delivery from the club’s kit suppliers.

“We received our jerseys on Friday afternoon. During inspection, we realised that some had numbers at the back while others did not,” Obeng explained.

“But the timeframe was too short for the club to resolve the issue, so we informed the company, which admitted it was a mistake. We will find ways to ensure this does not happen in the next match,” he added.

Chelsea have until Tuesday, September 16, to respond to the charges.

In addition to the jersey issue, the club faces allegations of breaching safety and security protocols by allowing an unauthorised official, Nana Nketia, into the inner perimeter. They are also accused of failing to organise the mandatory pre-match interview for head coach Samuel Boadu.
