Out of 47 former executives, 37 publicly declared their intention to back Dr. Bawumia ahead of the 2026 presidential primaries.

Speaking on behalf of the group, a former Deputy Secretary, Benjamin Benson, expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and vision for the country.

He noted that the former executives had carefully assessed the current political landscape and believed that rallying behind Dr. Bawumia was in the best interest of both the constituency and the nation.

“Those of us gathered here are former constituency executives, and we have decided to throw our support behind Dr. Bawumia to secure a massive victory in Mfantseman and ultimately across Ghana in 2028,” he said.

We’ll not have proxy voting in NPP presidential primaries – Joe Wise https://www.adomonline.com/well-not-have-proxy-voting-in-npp-presidential-primaries-joe-wise/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 18:51:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602352 Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joe Osei Owusu, has dismissed petitions from student groups and diaspora members challenging the party’s decision to ban proxy voting in the 2026 presidential primaries.

Speaking during the presentation of copies of the provisional register to aspirants, he said the committee had carefully reviewed all submissions but concluded that maintaining the restriction is essential to safeguarding the integrity and orderly conduct of the elections.

“We’ve read the petitions presented by sections of the party, and after listening to all that, we came to the conclusion that for the sake of conducting an election that is incident-free and credible, that provision should be maintained. We will still not have proxy voting in the 2026 presidential primaries,” he said.

The proxy ban, introduced earlier this year as part of the election guidelines, has drawn criticism from members abroad and students who argue that the rule disenfranchises committed party supporters unable to vote in person.

Petitioners had urged the committee to reconsider, insisting that the NPP’s expanding global membership should be reflected in its electoral processes. But the committee has remained firm on its position.

Osei Owusu stressed that in-person voting remains the most reliable method for a close and competitive contest, noting that it avoids logistical complications and strengthens public confidence in the final outcome.

NPP Presidential Election Committee presents copies of provisional register to aspirants https://www.adomonline.com/npp-presidential-election-committee-presents-copies-of-provisional-register-to-aspirants/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 18:48:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602348 The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee has released a provisional voter register to all aspirants contesting the party’s upcoming flagbearer race.

The document was officially handed over during a meeting chaired by the committee’s leader, Joseph Osei Owusu, who urged the aspirants to thoroughly review its contents and submit any concerns or corrections ahead of the polls.

Mr. Owusu stressed that the committee remains committed to ensuring a transparent and peaceful process as the party prepares for its January presidential primary. He noted that all aspirants were consulted before the decision to release the register was finalised.

Those present at the meeting included Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ing. Kwabena Agyapong, and Lawyer Appiah Kubi, who represented Bryan Acheampong. Fred Oware also attended on behalf of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The NPP is gearing up for a critical internal contest to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general election. The poll, scheduled for January 31, 2026, will determine who leads the party following its defeat in the 2024 national elections.

The release of the provisional register marks an important step in the electoral process, giving aspirants the opportunity to verify the list of delegates who will vote in the primary.

According to the committee, the objective is to prevent disputes over voter data, build confidence in the system, and ensure a credible and orderly election.

Kwabena Agyepong calls for national debate among NPP flagbearer candidates https://www.adomonline.com/kwabena-agyepong-calls-for-national-debate-among-npp-flagbearer-candidates/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 14:10:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602262 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate Kwabena Agyepong has urged his fellow presidential hopefuls to engage in a nationally televised debate, saying Ghanaians deserve to make informed choices based on candidates’ policies, priorities, character, and track record.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on JoyNews AM Show, Agyepong said, “And that’s why I have even challenged my other four colleagues that we should have a nationally public-sized debate. Ghanaians and our party people deserve to make an informed choice. That informed choice will be based on our policy differences, our priorities, our character, and our record. That should be scrutinised.”

He emphasised that leadership should go beyond popularity contests, highlighting the need for transformative ideas and a demonstrated willingness to deliver results.

“We need somebody who’s got transformative ideas, somebody who has shown that he’s prepared to work for results,” he added.

Agyepong’s call comes amid growing competition within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as candidates campaign ahead of the party’s presidential primaries set to take place in January 2026.

He stressed that public scrutiny of candidates’ visions and character is essential for selecting the best leader to guide Ghana in the coming years.

NPP didn’t listen enough – Napo https://www.adomonline.com/npp-didnt-listen-enough-napo/ Wed, 19 Nov 2025 06:44:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601566 The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, says one hard truth has become clear to him after months of political reflection.

According to him, the NPP under the Nana Akufo-Addo government simply did not listen enough.

The former Education and Energy Minister believes that failure cost the party the trust of the people, with severe consequences.

“One thing I’ve concluded in the last 10 months is that there was a broken trust between citizens and government. The trust that was broken hurt so much so that we saw the results so broken,” he said on Joy News’ PM Express.

Asked by host Evans Mensah what caused that rupture, Dr Opoku Prempeh was direct.

“We didn’t listen enough; we assumed a lot of things we shouldn’t have assumed,” he admitted.

He added that even their sense of purpose as a government came under strain.

Dr Prempeh argued that the global environment made the period even more difficult, saying the world had been shaken on multiple fronts.

“We had gone through the West, global economic climate, medically and economically or health-wise,” he said.

According to him, governments across the world were swept up in a storm, with many overturned, leaving only autocratic regimes able to withstand the shocks.

He highlighted how dramatically the global economy had shifted and pointed to staggering changes in basic costs.

“A container from China that cost $1,200 logistic-wise had risen to $14,000. People’s lifetime savings have been wiped out,” he said.

He added that the human toll was equally devastating.

“People had died in their droves that had never been seen before, without a military crisis or World War. So a lot of things that happened.”

Through it all, Dr Prempeh maintained that despite the difficult global context, their biggest failure was not listening to the public early enough — a failure he believes paved the way for everything that followed.

NPP primaries: Sweden Chair dismisses proxy-voting petition, warns of integrity risks https://www.adomonline.com/npp-primaries-sweden-chair-dismisses-proxy-voting-petition-warns-of-integrity-risks/ Tue, 18 Nov 2025 13:33:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601351 The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s Sweden Branch, Mr Richard Oti Aboagye, has urged the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) to ignore a petition seeking the reinstatement of proxy voting in the NPP’s upcoming presidential primary.

He insists the petition is misleading, lacks legitimacy and does not reflect the collective position of the Party’s external branches.

The Sweden Branch Chair issued the caution in a detailed submission to the NEC, following the circulation of a petition purportedly endorsed by all 30 external branches of the Party.

The petition challenges the PEC’s directive banning proxy voting in the January 31, 2026, presidential primary, which will elect a flagbearer from among the five approved aspirants: Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Mr Oti Aboagye said the petition “creates the false and misleading impression that all thirty external branches were present, represented, and in agreement,” emphasising that several branch chairpersons, including himself, did not participate in any meeting that endorsed the petition.

“Ignore the petition to restore proxy voting. It does not represent the views of the NPP Diaspora, and proxy voting poses genuine election integrity risks,” he stated.

The Sweden Chair argued that the PEC acted appropriately and within its constitutional mandate when it issued the directive.

He noted that the Presidential Elections Committee was set up by the National Council with full authority to design and implement operational rules for the primary, including measures to enhance transparency and prevent manipulation.

He further defended the PEC’s decision, stating that past elections had shown that proxy voting “opened loopholes in our internal processes,” creating verification challenges that could be exploited. Eliminating proxy voting, he said, is not only prudent but essential to ensuring a credible and dispute-free election.

Mr Oti Aboagye also criticised attempts to selectively challenge one electoral guideline while embracing others, warning that such behaviour threatens party cohesion in an election cycle where unity is critical. “Our responsibility as a Party is to defend institutional integrity, not undermine it. The PEC’s decision is a safeguard, not a threat,” he said.

He stressed that the petition’s circulation paints a false picture of division among diaspora branches, which he described as unhelpful at a time when the NPP is working to consolidate support ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The Sweden Chair reaffirmed the diaspora’s commitment to transparent internal elections, urging NEC to uphold the PEC’s authority and maintain close engagement with external branches. “We must model discipline, institutional respect, and faith in due process,” he noted.

I am the unifier NPP needs – Adutwum https://www.adomonline.com/i-am-the-unifier-npp-needs-adutwum/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 11:55:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600890 Bosomtwe Member of Parliament (MP) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has boldly positioned himself as the unifier the party needs as it heads toward the 2028 general elections.

In an interview with Adom News, the former Education Minister emphasised that the NPP’s success hinges on choosing a leader capable of bringing all factions together after the internal contest.

Dr. Adutwum highlighted that his vision for the NPP goes beyond winning the flagbearership; it is about healing divisions, strengthening party structures, and restoring confidence among grassroots members.

He explained that his clean and issues-driven campaign is a deliberate strategy to foster harmony, avoid internal tensions, and ensure that every aspirant and supporter feels respected and valued.

According to him, unity is the most powerful weapon the NPP can wield going into 2028, and he stands ready to champion that cause.

“The party needs a unifier,” he noted, stressing that only a united front can position the NPP to recapture power.

Dr. Adutwum concluded by urging delegates to look beyond momentary interests and consider what is best for the party’s future.

He appealed to them to give him the opportunity to lead, promising to build bridges, energise the base, and guide the NPP to a resounding victory in the next elections.

Have confidence in me, I will bring ‘Abrokyire’ to Ghana – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/have-confidence-in-me-i-will-bring-abrokyire-to-ghana-bawumia/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 06:19:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600690 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured Ghanaians of a future anchored on innovation, expanded opportunities, and stronger economic foundations should he be elected president.

Addressing supporters in Ketu South, the former Vice President appealed for public trust in his bid for the highest office, urging voters to reflect on his performance in government.

He reminded the gathering of his achievements in office, stressing that a full presidential mandate would enable him to attract more foreign investment and fast-track national development.

“Believe in me,” he said. “You’ve witnessed what I was able to accomplish as Vice President. With your full mandate as President, I will bring more international investment into Ghana.”

Dr. Bawumia encouraged supporters to look beyond current economic challenges and consider the long-term benefits of practical ideas and forward-looking policies. He emphasised that true national transformation is grounded in creativity and problem-solving, not merely current income levels.

Highlighting his role in Ghana’s digital reforms, he referenced improvements in mobile money interoperability as a key example. He noted that, until recently, transferring funds across different mobile networks or linking bank accounts to mobile wallets was impossible.

“But we believed it could be done, and today it is a reality,” he said.

He further stated that the progress in the digital financial sector has contributed significantly to job creation. According to him, the number of mobile money agents has grown from about 107,000 to roughly 900,000 during his tenure—an expansion he described as a major boost to employment.

I’m not a stranger in NPP – Dr. Adutwum recounts his longstanding journey https://www.adomonline.com/im-not-a-stranger-in-npp-dr-adutwum-recounts-his-longstanding-journey/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 16:17:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598789 Former Minister of Education and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, has dismissed claims that he is a political newcomer, highlighting that his involvement with the party spans several decades.

In an interview with Adom News, Dr. Adutwum stressed that his political journey did not begin under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, but has been rooted in the NPP’s activities and vision since its early days.

“I am not a stranger in the NPP. Some people think I just appeared from nowhere to join Akufo-Addo’s government, but that is not the case,” he said.

Recalling his early political engagement, Dr. Adutwum said his activism began as a student leader at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he participated in movements advocating for democratic governance.

“I started as a student leader, part of a movement that championed the fight for civilian rule — a movement that made history,” he noted.

After completing his studies, Dr. Adutwum continued his political involvement in the United States, becoming a founding member of the NPP branch in California and eventually serving as Vice Chairman.

His dedication caught the attention of then-presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo, who invited him to contribute to key policy formulations, including the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, now a flagship initiative of the NPP government.

“When Nana Akufo-Addo invited me to share my ideas on education, I was honoured to help develop the vision that led to Free SHS. That opportunity opened the door for me to serve as Deputy Minister and later as Minister of Education,” Dr. Adutwum said.

He added that his experience in academia and governance equips him uniquely to lead the NPP into its next chapter of progress and transformation.

Dr. Adutwum’s comments come amid ongoing engagements with party members and delegates ahead of the NPP’s flagbearer selection, where he continues to advocate for unity, vision-driven leadership, and practical solutions to national development challenges.

CJ nominee Baffoe-Bonnie proposes Nov. 7 for general elections https://www.adomonline.com/cj-nominee-baffoe-bonnie-proposes-nov-7-for-general-elections/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 18:16:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598391 Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has proposed that Ghana’s general elections be held on November 7 instead of the traditional December 7.

The change, he explained, would provide enough time for any election-related petitions to be heard and resolved before the inauguration of a new government.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie made the proposal during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, November 10, 2025, in response to concerns about delays in resolving electoral disputes.

Currently, national elections are held on December 7, with the swearing-in of a new government taking place a month later on January 7. This short interval, he observed, makes it difficult for the courts to conclude any election petitions before the incoming administration assumes office.

According to him, shifting the election date to early November would enable both political parties and the judiciary to address disputes more effectively and transparently.

“After the election petition, we came to the conclusion that it should be possible to have petitions concluded before January 7, which is the inauguration day. The best suggestion that came up was to hold elections on November 7 or 8,” he explained.

He further noted that if elections were held in early November, results could be declared by November 10, providing about 57 days — from mid-November to early January — to deal with any potential legal challenges.

“Assuming we go by the 42-day window provided by CI 99, petitions can be filed, responded to, and tried within that period,” he added.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also called for the adoption of electronic service of court documents to reduce the delays associated with manual delivery.

“Every originating process has to be served personally on the respondent. But in this age, we can use digital addresses or phone numbers for online contact. If petitions are served electronically, it can take three days instead of a week,” he said.

He emphasised that with such reforms, election petitions could be completed by November 30, allowing trials to conclude within two weeks — a move he believes would enhance fairness, efficiency, and public confidence in the electoral justice process.

John Boadu officially declares bid for NPP National Chairmanship https://www.adomonline.com/john-boadu-officially-declares-bid-for-npp-national-chairmanship/ Sat, 08 Nov 2025 16:49:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597755 Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman when nominations open for the party’s national leadership elections in 2026.

In a formal declaration issued in Accra, Mr. Boadu said his decision followed broad consultations with founding members, party elders, executives, youth groups, and opinion leaders. He noted that the NPP is at a critical point in its political journey and requires tested leadership to rebuild the party and restore it to power.

“Our beloved NPP has come far, but we are at a critical crossroad,” he stated. “We have lost touch with many vital stakeholders that once stood firmly with us — the media, youth base, business community, and middle class. This is the time to rebuild and restore confidence in our great party.”

He described the current challenges facing the NPP in opposition as worrying, citing the decline in parliamentary seats and the loss of grassroots enthusiasm. According to him, the only way to renew hope and opportunity for Ghanaians is for the NPP to return to power in 2028.

“The only true way to restore hope, confidence, and the future of our people is for the NPP to win back power again,” he said. “The party cannot afford to stay in opposition for long.”

Outlining his motivation for the race, Mr. Boadu emphasized that the NPP needs experienced leadership to guide it through its current challenges.

“At every turning point in a political party’s journey, a special kind of leader is required — one who has been tried, tested, and proven through years of service and sacrifice,” he noted.

Mr. Boadu pointed to his more than 30 years of service to the NPP, having held various positions including Polling Station Chairman, Constituency Secretary, National Youth Organiser, National Organiser, Acting General Secretary, and later General Secretary.

He highlighted his record in leading the party to major electoral victories in 2016 and 2020, during which the NPP secured its highest vote tallies and parliamentary seats in Ghana’s political history.

“The two highest electoral results in our history — 5.7 million votes in 2016 and 6.7 million votes in 2020 — were achieved under my leadership,” he said. “These were not coincidences but the result of hard work, experience, and tested leadership.”

If elected as National Chairman, John Boadu said he would focus on five key areas: party unity and reconciliation, rebuilding and rebranding the NPP, strengthening party structures and internal security, ensuring sustainable resource mobilization, and reviving the party’s election-winning machinery through modern digital tools and data systems.

He called on members to unite behind a common vision ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“The 2028 elections will test the resilience and unity of our party. What we need now is stability and leadership that can heal divisions, rebuild our structures, and restore our winning spirit,” he said. “Together, we shall make the NPP great again and win the 2028 elections.”

The announcement marks the beginning of what is expected to be a competitive race for the NPP’s top position as the party begins preparations to reclaim power in the next national elections.

NPP race: Kennedy Agyapong’s team is divinely formed — Nhyiaeso MP https://www.adomonline.com/npp-race-kennedy-agyapongs-team-is-divinely-formed-nhyiaeso-mp/ Fri, 07 Nov 2025 14:08:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597502 Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has described the team supporting New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong as divinely formed and destined to transform Ghana’s political and economic landscape.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Amoah lauded the former Assin Central legislator for his entrepreneurial drive and impact on job creation, insisting that no politician in Ghana’s history has matched his contribution to employment and national development.

“No politician has created more jobs than Kennedy Agyapong. He has employed thousands, and that’s not a lie. The transformation he is bringing to Ghana is out of this world,” Dr. Amoah said.

The Nhyiaeso MP revealed that some of the top financial and economic experts in the NPP have now aligned with Kennedy Agyapong, calling their alliance “divine” and purposeful.

“People say he’s not an economist, but currently, all the top financial economists in NPP are in Ken’s camp. The formation of this team is divine, and nobody should take it lightly,” he stressed.

Dr. Amoah added that Mr. Agyapong’s influence goes beyond politics, highlighting his contributions to healthcare and humanitarian causes across Ghana.

“If you go to the 37 Military Hospital or the Tamale Teaching Hospital, the things he has done there are mind-blowing. Even when Ghanaians were stranded abroad and the government had no funds to evacuate them, Kennedy stepped in and brought them home,” he said.

He also disclosed that the Prince of Dubai recently reached out to Mr. Agyapong, describing it as proof of his growing international influence, though he added, “not everything needs to be publicized.”

Dr. Amoah defended Kennedy Agyapong against criticism of his outspoken nature, drawing biblical parallels with flawed but divinely chosen leaders.

“People say he insults others, and so what? Peter cut off someone’s ear, yet Jesus said, ‘You are the rock on which I will build my church.’ Moses killed a man, but God still used him. When God wants to appoint a leader, propaganda won’t change it,” he explained.

The Nhyiaeso MP urged Ghanaians to recognize Mr. Agyapong’s vision and divine calling, emphasizing, “When God is behind a man’s mission, no opposition can stand in the way.”

NPP presidential aspirants to sign Peace Pact ahead of presidential primaries https://www.adomonline.com/npp-presidential-aspirants-to-sign-peace-pact-ahead-of-presidential-primaries/ Fri, 07 Nov 2025 09:03:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597354 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has announced plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), also referred to as a Peace Pact, with five presidential aspirants, ahead of the party’s presidential primaries slated for January 31, 2026.

At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, the Committee’s Chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu, emphasised the importance of fostering unity and transparency throughout the electoral process.

He announced that the Committee would provide the aspirants with a provisional voter register album on November 13, 2025, which would subsequently be exhibited at voting centres nationwide.

Mr Osei-Owusu outlined several measures lined up to ensure credibility and inclusiveness, including engagement with former Presidents, the Party’s Council of Elders, the Electoral Commission, and the Ghana Police Service.

There would be bi-weekly meetings with accredited representatives of the aspirants to address concerns and maintain open communication.

Mr Osei-Owusu, also a former Member of Parliament for Bekwai and a former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, urged party supporters, stakeholders, and media outlets to exercise restraint and cautioned against the circulation of unverified information that could undermine confidence in the electoral process.

Mr Osei-Owusu reaffirmed the Committee’s readiness to deliver a free, fair, and transparent primary election, stressing that the Peace Pact would serve as a commitment by all aspirants to uphold the integrity of the contest and maintain party unity.

The contesting aspirants are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei-Agyepong.

Naa Koryoo clarifies comments on election violence, calls for peace and unity https://www.adomonline.com/naa-koryoo-clarifies-comments-on-election-violence-calls-for-peace-and-unity/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 20:48:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597265 The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Philips Naa Koryoo, has clarified her recent comments on the ongoing investigation into election-related violence, stressing that her remarks were misunderstood.

Addressing the media, the MP explained that she did not deny the occurrence of attacks during the elections but rather called for a comprehensive and impartial investigation by the task force probing the incidents.

“I never said there were no attacks. What I meant was that we must focus on the truth and allow the investigative bodies to do their work fairly,” she emphasized.

Recounting her personal experiences, Naa Koryoo described feeling threatened during the election period, highlighting the tense atmosphere and emotional strain on her and her campaign team.

She commended the President, the Minister for the Interior, and the Speaker of Parliament for their leadership and support in addressing the issue, and also expressed appreciation to security agencies and her constituents for maintaining calm.

Calling for peace and unity, the MP urged all parties to put the nation’s interests first.

“I see myself as a mother for all, whether you voted for me or not. We are one family. Peace and development must always come first,” she stated.

Naa Koryoo wanted to disgrace and kill me – Hawa Koomson alleges https://www.adomonline.com/naa-koryoo-wanted-to-disgrace-and-kill-me-hawa-koomson-alleges/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 11:53:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596995 Former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has accused her successor, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, of fabricating stories against her, plotting to tarnish her reputation, and attempting to end her life.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, the former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture alleged that from the moment Naa Koryoo entered politics in Kasoa, she resorted to lies and propaganda as a strategy to win public sympathy and eventually the parliamentary seat.

“From day one, Naa Koryoo came to Kasoa and started fabricating lies because she was taught that if she went that route, she would win the Awutu Senya East seat — and she succeeded,” Hawa Koomson stated.

She added that her refusal to follow such tactics made her a target for malicious attacks and false accusations.

“I made up my mind not to tow her line. I don’t know how to lie because I was not brought up that way. But someone trained to fabricate lies to make them appear true — that’s exactly what she did in 2020,” she explained.

Hawa Koomson claimed the political rivalry escalated during the 2020 elections when she was falsely accused of bringing armed men into the constituency.

“I was accused of bringing armed men into the constituency. It took only God’s intervention; that’s why I was not arrested or prosecuted,” she said.

The former MP also alleged that during the Ablekuma North re-run, Naa Koryoo’s husband led a group that attacked her, leaving her narrowly escaping a stabbing incident.

“Naa Koryoo wanted to disgrace me and wanted me dead. Her husband led people to come and attack me and almost stabbed me during the Ablekuma North re-run. I would have been in prison by now, and I am grateful to God for His intervention,” she recounted.

Her comments follow Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka’s recent revelation in Parliament that Naa Koryoo had denied any attack on her convoy during the 2024 general elections — contradicting earlier reports that had fueled tensions in the constituency.

Hawa Koomson maintained that the truth is now emerging, expressing gratitude for what she believes is divine vindication after years of public vilification.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the former MP explained that she only learned her successor, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, owned a Mahindra after reports suggested the vehicle was used to transport weapons during the incident that left one person dead.

“Until my son was stabbed and they packed weapons in a Mahindra to a polling station, I never knew Naa Koryoo had a Mahindra in Kasoa because we don’t use the same route,” she said.

Hawa Koomson stressed that on the day of the alleged shooting, she was nowhere near the location of the attack and did not drive the black car her opponents claimed was involved.

“The area she claims the incident happened, I was nowhere near there. They said a black car was used, but that day I didn’t drive a black car. My friend brought a white Range Rover, and that’s what I sat in with my bodyguard,” she explained.

The former Minister for Special Development Initiatives added that she never crossed into the other side of Kasoa where the violence reportedly occurred.

“On election day, I didn’t cross to the other side of Kasoa — Walantu and its environs — so I didn’t even see any Mahindra,” she noted.

Hawa Koomson emphasized her transparent relationship with the Kasoa Police Command, saying she always informs them of her movements.

“The Kasoa Police are my friends. I don’t go anywhere they are without announcing my presence. And that day, they didn’t see me where the incident happened,” she stated.

Her remarks follow the disclosure by Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka in Parliament that Naa Koryoo denied any attack on her convoy during the 2024 elections — contradicting earlier claims made by the NDC parliamentary candidate.

Hawa Koomson, who lost the 2024 parliamentary contest to Naa Koryoo, said she believes the truth is gradually unfolding.

“God works in mysterious ways. When the Ablekuma North incident happened, I said God will fight my battles for me,” she added.

The Interior Ministry has confirmed that investigations into the Awutu Senya East election violence are ongoing, with the driver of the Mahindra already traced as part of efforts to establish the full facts of the case.

Naa Koryoo has denied convoy attack by Hawa Koomson in 2024 Kasoa election violence – Muntaka https://www.adomonline.com/naa-koryoo-has-denied-convoy-attack-by-hawa-koomson-in-2024-kasoa-election-violence-muntaka/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 09:52:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596864 The Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mubarak, has stated that investigations into the 2024 election violence in the Awutu Senya East Constituency (Kasoa) found no evidence to support claims that the convoy of incumbent MP, Philis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, was attacked during the polls.

Naa Koryoo had alleged that a vehicle belonging to the then-sitting MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, chased and fired at her car, resulting in the death of one person.

However, speaking during an update on the 2020 and 2024 election violence report, the Minister clarified that the parliamentary candidate was not near the scene of the incident, contrary to earlier reports suggesting her convoy came under fire.

“Honourable Philis Naa Koryoo Okennor denied that her convoy was attacked. She was nowhere near the scene of the incident,” Mubarak stated.

He explained that several persons believed to have been directly involved in the Kasoa incident have refused to cooperate with the Election Security Task Force, including Mohammed Ali and others reportedly in a Mahindra pickup truck that allegedly fired shots during the altercation.

According to the Minister, Mohammed Ali has since been flown abroad for medical treatment, making it difficult for investigators to obtain his statement.

Mr. Mubarak further disclosed that the late Yusif Larri Idriss died from gunshot wounds sustained during the violence, adding that those who were in the pickup with him likely hold key information about what transpired.

“The driver of the Mahindra vehicle has been traced, and further investigations are ongoing,” he said.

The Interior Minister assured that the Task Force will continue its investigations until all facts surrounding the Kasoa violence are uncovered.

The Awutu Senya East constituency, particularly Kasoa, has long been considered a political hotspot, with election-related disturbances reported during both the 2020 and 2024 general elections.

Affail Monney calls for deeper national introspection over recurring election violence https://www.adomonline.com/affail-monney-calls-for-deeper-national-introspection-over-recurring-election-violence/ Wed, 05 Nov 2025 09:18:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596402 Former President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Roland Affail Monney, has urged Ghanaians to confront the root causes of election-related violence rather than merely condemning incidents after they occur.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Mr. Monney said the nation’s response to electoral violence has often been superficial, focusing on “naming and shaming” instead of addressing the underlying desperation and political culture that fuel such acts.

“From the root and not the branch,” he said. “The branch approach is to condemn it, go to town, name and shame, and we go back and perpetrate the same evil. We need to take a microscopic look at what brings about all this violence — why are people so desperate?”

He expressed concern that every election cycle in Ghana turns the country into what he described as a “war zone,” with heightened tensions and tempers flaring among political actors and supporters.

“Every election year, the whole country virtually turns into a war zone. Tempers are high, tensions beyond the roof. The desire to win at all costs dominates everything,” Mr. Monney observed.

According to him, the root of the problem lies in the intense competition for political power and the perception of governance as a high-stakes venture. “Politicians invest bundles into elections. This tells you that being in government is the ultimate. So whatever it will take for you to be in government — be it fair or foul means — people are willing to do it,” he added.

Mr. Monney’s remarks come in the wake of renewed discussions on electoral violence following the Interior Ministry’s report linking deaths and injuries during the 2020 and 2024 general elections to the use of firearms by party supporters and security personnel.

He called for a national dialogue that goes beyond partisan blame, urging political leaders, civil society, and the media to spearhead a cultural shift toward peace, accountability, and ethical politics.

Political impunity fueling election violence — Dr. Asah Asante https://www.adomonline.com/political-impunity-fueling-election-violence-dr-asah-asante/ Wed, 05 Nov 2025 09:06:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596397 A political scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah Asante, has attributed Ghana’s recurring incidents of election-related violence to a culture of impunity and political expediency among the country’s political actors.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr. Asah Asante said successive governments have failed to hold perpetrators accountable, allowing violent behaviour to persist and re-emerge during elections.

“One of the things that has brought us this far is impunity. Political actors, because of political expediency, benefit from this. So when people commit these acts and win power, they don’t punish them,” he stated.

He noted that the continued failure to sanction security personnel and party supporters involved in violent acts emboldens others to act with disregard for the law.

“You saw how eight people were shot in the 2020 election. What has happened to that? We sat down here, we talked about it, but end of story,” he lamented.

Dr. Asah Asante’s remarks follow a new Interior Ministry report linking deaths recorded during the 2020 and 2024 general elections to the use of firearms by police, military, and party supporters across several regions. The report indicates that the incidents resulted in 15 deaths and over 40 injuries.

The political analyst stressed the need for both the state and citizens to demand accountability and ensure that electoral law violators are punished to serve as a deterrent.

“If we, as a society, rise and demand accountability, I’m sure we’ll go far,” he said. “We need to strengthen education that elections are a contest of ideas and choice — you either win or lose and prepare to come back. Violence has no place in elections.”

Dr. Asah Asante also cautioned political leaders against inciting supporters to engage in violence and later abandoning them once in power. He emphasised that building a culture of issue-based politics and enforcing sanctions against offenders are essential to safeguarding Ghana’s democracy.

11 suspects to face prosecution for 2020 and 2024 election violence https://www.adomonline.com/11-suspects-to-face-prosecution-for-2020-and-2024-election-violence/ Tue, 04 Nov 2025 19:08:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596278 Eleven new criminal case dockets on incidents of violence and deaths recorded during the 2020 and 2024 elections have been prepared by the Ministry of the Interior and forwarded to the Attorney-General’s office for action.

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, announced this at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday.

He said the action follows investigations by a special task force set up by the Ministry and the Ghana Police Service to ensure justice for victims and hold offenders accountable for election-related offences.

Mr Mubarak said so far, twenty-one suspects have been identified through witness statements, scene visits, reconstruction of crime scenes, and forensic and ballistic examinations of evidence.

He said the investigations have led to the preparation of eleven new case dockets for prosecution.

“Four of the suspects have been arrested and granted police inquiry bail, while five others have been remanded in prison custody,” he said.

According to the minister, the task force’s findings cover violent incidents that occurred in both the 2020 and 2024 general elections, which together claimed 9 lives and left more than 32 people injured in seven regions: Greater Accra, Ashanti, Bono East, Savannah, Northern, Upper East and Upper West.

He said many of the cases under review involved the misuse of firearms by some political party supporters and the use of live ammunition by some security personnel during crowd-control operations at polling stations and collation centres.

“The government is determined to bring closure to these incidents and prevent a recurrence in future elections,” Mr Mubarak said.

The announcement marks the first major progress since the violent incidents recorded during the 2020 elections, when police confirmed more than 60 cases nationwide, including shootings at Techiman South, Odododiodio and Ablekuma Central, which led to the death of five people.

Similar incidents were reported during the 2024 elections in parts of the Ashanti, Bono East and Savannah Regions, which generated public concern about electoral security. Civil society organisations, including the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), documented several cases of gun injuries and called for justice for victims.

Mr Mubarak said the preparation of new dockets and the ongoing prosecutions form part of measures to strengthen accountability within the country’s security and justice systems.

“We will not allow these cases to gather dust. Those responsible will face the full rigours of the law,” he stated.

He said recommendations from the investigative task force would be used to guide future reforms in crowd-control operations, coordination among security agencies, and the training of personnel to prevent election-related violence.

Muntaka confirms 15 deaths and 40 injuries from 2020 and 2024 election violence https://www.adomonline.com/muntaka-confirms-15-deaths-and-40-injuries-from-2020-and-2024-election-violence/ Tue, 04 Nov 2025 19:07:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596273 The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has released alarming data on election-related violence in Ghana, confirming that 15 people lost their lives and 40 others were injured across the 2020 and 2024 general election cycles.

Presenting a nationwide summary of the cases, the Minister described the trend as “deeply concerning” and called for urgent, collective efforts to safeguard Ghana’s democratic stability.

According to Mr. Muntaka, the 2020 elections alone accounted for eight deaths and 34 injuries across six major constituencies, including Techiman South, Odododiodio, Ablekuma Central, Banda, Dormaa West, and Savelugu.

He highlighted Techiman South and Odododiodio as the worst affected, where violent clashes between rival groups resulted in multiple fatalities and severe injuries.

The Interior Minister expressed particular concern over the high casualty rates in urban constituencies, noting that such violence “leaves a dark stain on Ghana’s electoral process.”

Despite heightened security measures and repeated appeals for peace, the 2024 polls also experienced outbreaks of violence, resulting in seven deaths and six injuries across Awutu Senya, Tolon, Damango, Nkoranza South, Offinso North, and Ahafo Ano South-West.

“The circumstances of each case vary, but nearly all involve the use of firearms during confrontations between supporters of the two major political parties and instances where security personnel resorted to the use of live ammunition or warning shots as a means of crowd control,” the minister stated during a briefing.

The cumulative figures, he explained, underline ongoing security challenges in Ghana’s elections, particularly in high-tension constituencies.

In response, the Interior Ministry, working with the Ghana Police Service, has intensified investigations, strengthened rapid response mechanisms, and enhanced community engagement to prevent further escalation.

Mr. Muntaka assured the public that all perpetrators of electoral violence will face prosecution. He also announced the creation of a multi-stakeholder task force to propose reforms aimed at improving election security and accountability.

“No election is worth a single Ghanaian life,” he stressed. “We call on political parties, civil society, and the media to join hands in promoting peace before, during, and after elections.”

The Asawase MP also emphasized the need for stronger voter education initiatives and early warning systems to de-escalate tensions at polling stations. He urged citizens to report any suspicious behavior and to avoid acts of provocation.

Use of firearms by security officers, party supporters linked to election deaths – Muntaka https://www.adomonline.com/use-of-firearms-by-security-officers-party-supporters-linked-to-election-deaths-muntaka/ Tue, 04 Nov 2025 18:51:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596249 The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has revealed that most violent incidents recorded during Ghana’s 2020 and 2024 general elections were linked to the use of firearms by supporters of the two main political parties and, in some cases, by security personnel deployed to maintain order.

Addressing a press conference to present a report on election-related violence, Mr. Mubarak explained that investigations showed the majority of incidents resulted from clashes between rival party supporters or from security officers using live ammunition in efforts to disperse crowds.

“The circumstances of each case vary, but nearly all involve the use of firearms during confrontations between supporters of the two major political parties and instances where security personnel resorted to the use of live ammunition or warning shots as a means of crowd control,” he said.

The Interior Minister noted that one of the major investigations following the 2020 elections—particularly the incident at Odododiodio in the Greater Accra Region—had been concluded. He added that the Attorney General is currently prosecuting three individuals before the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra.

Mr. Mubarak further disclosed that findings from the probe revealed three incidents, which claimed four lives, were caused by armed police patrol teams, while military personnel were implicated in three other cases that led to three deaths during crowd control operations.

He assured the public that the government remains committed to ensuring accountability for all election-related fatalities and improving coordination among security agencies in future electoral deployments.

Akwasi Opong-Fosu likely to contest NDC flagbearership https://www.adomonline.com/akwasi-opong-fosu-likely-to-contest-ndc-flagbearership/ Tue, 04 Nov 2025 16:20:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596255 As Ghana’s political landscape begins to shift in preparation for the 2028 general elections, former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Opong-Fosu, is emerging as a notable figure within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Although he has not officially declared his intention to contest the NDC presidential primary, strong indications from the NDC’s regional structures, diaspora networks and intellectual circles suggest that discussions about his potential run are underway.

If he decides to enter the race, Opong-Fosu’s campaign is expected to focus on three main pillars: Ethical Leadership, Institutional Renewal and Inclusive Transformation.

Building on Mahama’s legacy

His supporters argue that an Opong-Fosu candidacy would serve not only to consolidate the NDC’s legacy but also to redefine its mission.

Having served loyally under former President John Mahama and contributed to the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto, he is viewed as capable of extending Mahama’s vision while infusing it with deeper institutional insights.

A call for renewal

Political analysts suggest that if the NDC genuinely seeks renewal and if Ghana yearns for ethical and visionary leadership, Opong-Fosu’s emergence could be pivotal in transforming the party’s future and rekindling national hope.

His extensive four-decade career in public service enhances this platform, starting with local government, where he played a crucial role in developing and implementing Ghana’s District Assembly system.

This experience was further amplified through leadership roles at national, African, and international levels, earning him a reputation for technical competence and integrity.

National unity candidate

Opong-Fosu’s diverse regional background, with roots in both the Western and Ashanti regions, along with his national appeal, positions him as a leader capable of bridging Ghana’s political and regional divides.

His international reputation, built through active participation in high-level global forums, connects him to influential thinkers and investors focused on Africa’s development.

Rediscovering party morality

Within the NDC, his supporters view him as a beacon for renewal, offering a chance to rediscover the party’s moral compass of probity and accountability. His eighteen years of experience as District Secretary and District Chief Executive have significantly impacted his role on national, continental, and global stages.

He has served as President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana, President of the African Union of Local Authorities, Vice President of the International Union of Local Authorities, and as a UN Special Advisor on Local Authorities.

His subsequent roles as Head of the Local Government Service and Minister for Local Government have solidified his reputation for technical competence, integrity, and results-oriented leadership.

Awentami Paul Afoko declares intention to contest NPP Chairmanship race https://www.adomonline.com/awentami-paul-afoko-declares-intention-to-contest-npp-chairmanship-race/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 13:30:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593301 Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has officially declared his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship position in the upcoming national executive elections.

In a statement released from his office in Dzorwulu, Accra, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Mr. Afoko said the decision followed “extensive reflection and encouragement from many well-meaning members, supporters, and stakeholders” within the NPP.

According to him, his decision was not made lightly but inspired by persistent calls for renewed leadership anchored in the founding principles and democratic ideals of the party.

“My commitment to the NPP has remained steadfast through the years, and I believe the time has come to contribute, once again, to the rebuilding and strengthening of our Party at this critical juncture,” Mr. Afoko stated.

He noted that his political journey has had its share of challenges, but maintained that his focus has always been on unity and progress rather than personal interest.

“While the journey has not been without its trials, I have always chosen to prioritise the unity and progress of the NPP above all else. My focus now, as it has always been, is on the future — one where our Party stands re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promise to the Ghanaian people,” he added.

Mr. Afoko indicated that, in the coming weeks, he would engage party members and the media to outline his vision and plans to lead the NPP with “integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose.”

The former chairman ended his statement with a rallying call for collective effort and faith in the party’s future.

“Let us look ahead together. God bless the NPP. God bless our dear country.” Paul Afoko, who previously served as NPP National Chairman before his suspension in 2015, is making a comeback to the party’s leadership race with a message centred on unity and strength.

Ivory Coast president, 83, secures fourth term after two rivals barred https://www.adomonline.com/ivory-coast-president-83-secures-fourth-term-after-two-rivals-barred/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 08:12:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593073 Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has secured a fourth term following an election in which two of his biggest challengers were barred from running, provisional results show.

Ouattara, 83, won 89.8% of the vote, the electoral commission said on Monday, and businessman Jeal-Louis Billon came a distant second with only 3.09%.

The landslide victory is not a huge surprise, as after being banned from the presidential race, former President Laurent Gbagbo and Credit Suisse ex-CEO Tidjane Thiam had urged their supporters to boycott the vote.

Voter turnout reached just 50.1%, according to the electoral commission.

Gbagbo’s ex-wife, Simone Gbagbo, who was allowed to contest the election, got 2.42% of the vote.

Monday’s results are provisional, and the outcome will be announced by the Constitutional Council after it rules on any election petitions.

On Sunday, the opposition group made up of Gbagbo and Thiam’s parties denounced the election as a “civilian coup d’etat,” saying they would not recognise Ouattara as a validly elected leader.

Ouattara first assumed the presidency in 2011, following Laurent Gbagbo’s arrest after his refusal to accept defeat in the 2010 election.

Ouattara was originally restricted to serving two terms, but a 2016 constitutional overhaul allowed him to seek re-election in 2020, in a vote that was boycotted by the opposition.

NPP not broken, just evolving – Afenyo-Markin https://www.adomonline.com/npp-not-broken-just-evolving-afenyo-markin/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 06:40:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593035 Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, says he is confident about the future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting that the internal contest for flagbearer is proof that the party remains strong and attractive.

The Effutu MP, speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, said the NPP’s determination to rebuild and transform is clear despite internal differences.

“We’ve demonstrated our determination, not to the satisfaction of everybody, but from where I sit, I see that determination of the party machinery to move on and to transform and get certain things done,” he said.

He described the upcoming primaries as a crucial test for the party, expressing optimism about the calibre of candidates contesting.

“This primaries ahead of us is a big deal, and I’m happy that we have five gentlemen of our stock of their own rights, hardworking, determined.

“They’ve made their name in the party, bold and courageous to say that, look, we want to take the flag and bring you victory. That, in itself, tells me that the party has a future,” he noted.

Afenyo-Markin said the continued interest of leading figures in vying for the flagbearer position showed that the NPP was still relevant and had a mission beyond individuals.

“Ambition to use the party to serve the country, and for me, the fact that they remain that determined, that fire in their belly keeps burning, gives me assurance that there’s hope for the party,” he said.

He dismissed fears that divisions from the primaries could weaken the party.

“A party that has no future will not have people wasting their time to use its brand to serve at all. They would say they will go independent. So that, in itself, is a good start for us,” he stressed.

He explained that once the flagbearer is chosen by January 31, the NPP would begin rebranding and aligning the new leader’s vision with the party’s ideology.

“A leader is chosen, one that leader is chosen, a manifesto committee will be set up. Then the proper rebranding starts, because whoever is chosen as a leader comes with his vision,” he stated.

On the issue of MPs openly declaring support for particular candidates, Afenyo-Markin said so far, members had conducted themselves decently.

“My concern was how those who will declare openly will manage themselves. You recall that I came out openly to say that, look, let’s be very neutral,” he said.

He explained that his neutrality was strategic, given his role as leader in Parliament.

“There will be a need to make yourself a credible referee who would be trusted by various factions. It’s better for you to stay neutral, at least not openly declare. Some disagreed. You are in a democracy,” he added.

Asked whether he had endorsed anyone privately, he maintained that while he might have personal preferences, he could not make them public.

“I cannot publicly say I am going to campaign for this person. I don’t have to, because of where I sit,” he said.

He also revealed that some leaders had chosen to follow his example, while others had made their preferences known respectfully.

“Some have said, leader, ordinarily, I would be with you, but I would want to go this way, but I will be decent. Which I’ve already said is good,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin concluded that despite the different allegiances, parliamentary work had not been affected.

“So far so good. But I do not think that has affected the way we work in Parliament,” he said.

NPP race: Why I won’t publicly endorse any flagbearer – Afenyo-Markin https://www.adomonline.com/npp-race-why-i-wont-publicly-endorse-any-flagbearer-afenyo-markin/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 06:24:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593026 Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, says he will not publicly endorse any of the flagbearer aspirants in the NPP’s upcoming internal elections, stressing that neutrality is key to maintaining party unity and credibility.

Effutu MP, speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, said his position as a leader in Parliament requires restraint.

“No, I cannot publicly say I am going to campaign for this person,” he stated. “I don’t have to because of where I sit.”

He explained that while he may have private preferences, he must remain publicly neutral to be trusted when reconciling different factions after the primaries.

“I cannot publicly… I have a role to play in the aftermath of the 31st. I played a major role in 2023. The dynamics haven’t changed much, and where I sit, I see some work that will require a lot of energy after 31st January.

“So if I would have to play that role, show my hand openly, it will be difficult to be trusted when I am doing that midnight walking,” he said.

The Effutu MP noted that although some MPs have openly declared support for various aspirants, they have conducted themselves decently.

“Initially, my concern was how those who will declare openly will manage themselves,” he said.

“You recall that I came out openly to say that, look, let’s be very neutral. And my good reason was that after the primaries, we, the leaders in Parliament, would have to do some legwork, do what I call the midnight walking, get people together here and there.”

Afenyo-Markin added that he respects those who have chosen to declare their support publicly.

“Some disagreed. You are in a democracy. And for those who disagreed, they have chosen to go about their views decently. For me, that is commendable,” he said.

“I will continue to encourage those who are showing faces that look like I belong to Mr A or Mr B, sell the message of your candidate. For me as a leader, I cannot.”

Asked if his deputies and other parliamentary leaders were expected to follow his example, Afenyo-Markin said he has shared his position with them.

“Some have respectfully made their views known to me. They did disagree and said that, ordinarily, I would be with you, but I would want to go this way. But I will be decent, which I’ve already said is good. Some have also said, Leader, we think it’s better to keep calm and go by this approach. So we are watching, but so far, so good,” he said.

Despite differing loyalties within the caucus, he insisted that the internal competition has not affected their work in Parliament.

“I do not think that that has affected the way we work in Parliament,” he emphasised.

Reflecting on the broader significance of the primaries, Afenyo-Markin said the upcoming contest shows the party’s strength and future potential.

“We have five gentlemen of our stock, hardworking, determined, they’ve made their name in the party, so bold, courageous to say that, look, we want to take the flag and bring you victory,” he said. “That, in itself, tells me that the party has a future.”

He added that the determination of the aspirants gives him confidence in the NPP’s vitality.

“The fact that this remains that determined, that fire in their belly keeps burning, gives me assurance that there’s hope for the party. Because you see, a party that has no future will not have people wasting their time to use its brand to serve at all,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin said once the primaries end in January, the party will focus on rebranding and uniting behind its new leader.

“By 31st January, we will be done with this. A leader is chosen. Once that leader is chosen, a manifesto committee will be set up. Then the proper rebranding starts,” he said.

NPP race: Bawumia eyes 90% votes in Tano North https://www.adomonline.com/npp-race-bawumia-eyes-90-votes-in-tano-north/ Mon, 27 Oct 2025 14:07:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592760 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says he is confident that delegates in Tano North will once again rally behind his candidature in the 2026 presidential primaries, predicting a 90 percent victory margin.

Addressing party members during his first day of campaigning in the Ahafo Region, which also took him to Tano South and Asutifi North, Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation for their continued support and recalled the overwhelming endorsement he received in the 2023 primaries.

“I am excited today. I know I’m always welcomed in Tano North. I want to express my appreciation for the support in 2023. I garnered 84% of the votes. In the same vein, I urge you to replicate the support in 2026. This time round, I know that the support will be 90%. A win for me is a win for Tano North,” he said to enthusiastic applause from delegates.

His message during the Ahafo tour reaffirmed his broader campaign theme — one built on continuity, inclusiveness, and innovation.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated that his development agenda places strong emphasis on private sector involvement as a driver of national growth.

According to him, private investment will play a key role in addressing Ghana’s road infrastructure challenges while government focuses on community linkages through feeder and inter-town roads.

He also underscored his commitment to grassroots participation in governance, promising to empower local communities and ensure their priorities influence national decision-making.

Presenting himself as a unifier, Dr. Bawumia once again assured party members of his intention to bridge internal divisions within the NPP. He maintained that party unity will be vital to securing a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections.

His visit to the Ahafo Region marks the third leg of his nationwide campaign to consolidate support across the party’s base as he seeks to lead the NPP into the next election.

Speaking at Kenyasi during Dr. Bawumia’s engagement with delegates ahead of the party’s January 31, 2026, flagbearer election, Mr. Osei told Adom News that Dr. Bawumia possesses the right vision and leadership qualities to unite the NPP and adequately prepare its members for victory in 2028.

He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s message of unity and his practical approach to rebuilding the party after the 2024 elections make him the ideal person to lead the NPP into the next contest.

Meanwhile, Afia Kwartemaa, the Polling Station Women’s Organizer for Zongo Electoral Area in Kenyasi No.2, praised Dr. Bawumia’s calm and respectful tone throughout his address.

She said his refusal to insult or blame others reflects the leadership maturity the NPP needs at this stage.

According to her, Dr. Bawumia’s call for collective responsibility and teamwork after the party’s 2024 defeat has inspired renewed hope among grassroots members to work together for a comeback in 2028.

Bawumia’s conduct shows he’s bound to win – NPP Dormaa West Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/bawumias-conduct-shows-hes-bound-to-win-npp-dormaa-west-chairman/ Thu, 23 Oct 2025 08:52:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591592 Dormaa West Constituency Chairman of the opposition NPP, Kwame Owusu, has declared that the former Vice President’s temperament and style of leadership are clear indications of a man destined to win.

During Dr Bawumia’s visit to Dormaa West as part of his Bono Region tour, Mr Owusu praised the NPP flagbearer for his patience and maturity in handling political attacks, saying his focus on unity rather than division sets him apart.

“Everything indicates that Dr Bawumia is poised to win. This is evident in his conduct throughout the campaign—he does not respond to insults because he understands the greater responsibility of uniting everyone after the elections,” he stated.

Mr Owusu further recalled that the party’s morale was low before Dr Bawumia was elected flagbearer ahead of the 2024 polls, but credited him with reviving the NPP’s spirit and performance in the last election.

“If we are to be truthful, before Dr Bawumia was elected as flagbearer ahead of the 2024 polls, the party was in disarray. I believe we would not have secured more than 20 per cent of the votes had the elections been held at that time,” he said.

He applauded the national executives for holding an early congress, explaining that the decision will give the flagbearer enough time to mobilise support across the country.

“We also want to thank the party’s leadership for organising an early congress. This will give him enough time to prepare and campaign effectively,” he added.

2024 election: Bryan Acheampong clarifies alleged fertiliser distribution https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-bryan-acheampong-clarifies-alleged-fertiliser-distribution/ Thu, 23 Oct 2025 07:25:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591547 Former Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has dismissed claims that he distributed government fertilisers to New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates during the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Acheampong clarified that all fertilisers were channelled through the Ministry’s district agricultural offices for official distribution, not through political party structures.

The clarification followed a confrontation with the NPP’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Ejura, Gifty Ndomah, during his campaign tour of the constituency.

Ms Ndomah had challenged the former Minister’s earlier comment, suggesting that fertilisers were allocated to parliamentary candidates for onward distribution but were allegedly hoarded or smuggled by some.

Speaking later at a campaign rally in Ejura as part of his bid ahead of the NPP’s forthcoming presidential primaries, Dr Acheampong described the claims as false and misleading.

He emphasised that fertilisers purchased with public funds could not be distributed through political candidates, as such an act would amount to the misuse of state resources.

“The government can’t distribute fertilisers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to your parliamentary candidate on the ticket of a political party. That’s not how government funds are used,” Dr Acheampong said.

“If that were the case, then during election periods, government funds would have been handed to our parliamentary candidates across the country, but that’s not how a country is governed,” he added.

Dr. Acheampong further explained that all fertilisers under the government’s agricultural initiatives were dispatched to the district level to ensure accountability and transparency in distribution.

“When the fertilisers are sent to the district, then during their distribution, as your party is in government, you can have an influence, but in terms of accountability and responsibility, it is not in your hands,” he clarified.

This was during Dr Acheampong’s campaign tour of the Ejura Constituency as part of his efforts to secure the NPP’s flagbearer position in the upcoming presidential primaries.

Ms. Ndomah, who appeared displeased with the remarks, is said to have challenged the former Minister’s statement and presented what she claimed was evidence to refute his account.

Responding to her concerns, Dr Acheampong, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, clarified that he did not personally handle the distribution of fertilisers to NPP parliamentary candidates during the 2024 elections.

He explained that the fertilisers in question were channelled through the Ministry’s district agricultural offices and not through any political structures.

“The government can’t distribute fertilisers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to your parliamentary candidate on the ticket of a political party. That’s not how government funds are used,” Dr Acheampong explained.

“When the fertilisers are sent to the district, then during their distribution, as your party is in government, you can have an influence, but in terms of accountability and responsibility, it is not in your hands,” he added.

NPP race: Bawumia retains strong lead among supporters in latest poll https://www.adomonline.com/npp-race-bawumia-retains-strong-lead-among-supporters-in-latest-poll/ Mon, 20 Oct 2025 11:41:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2590287 A recent survey has shown that former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, continues to receive strong support from party members, with 72% of voters who backed him in the 2024 general election still preferring him to lead.

The latest Global InfoAnalytics poll released on Monday, October 20, 2025, shows that only 20% of respondents now favour former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, while the remaining participants remain undecided.

The data positions Dr. Bawumia as the clear frontrunner ahead of the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primaries.

In the NPP’s stronghold, Ashanti Region, Bawumia’s dominance appears even stronger, with 73% of respondents maintaining their support for him, compared to 20% for Mr. Agyapong.

The findings suggest that despite internal rivalry, most NPP loyalists still view Dr. Bawumia as the candidate best positioned to unite the party and sustain its transformational agenda.

Global InfoAnalytics indicated that its upcoming October 2025 delegates’ poll will further assess how internal party dynamics might shift ahead of the primaries.

“The next survey will measure how many delegates who supported leading candidates in previous contests intend to stay loyal or switch their votes in January 2026,” the pollsters stated.

The new data, however, reaffirms Dr. Bawumia’s commanding lead across both national and regional levels within the party.

Addressing delegates during Dr. Bawumia’s tour of the Bono East Region, Mr. Mensah Korsah said the NPP cannot afford to gamble with its choice of flagbearer at a time when the party is determined to return to power.

“If we want to experiment, then we can choose someone else, but we cannot afford to miss the opportunity to win in 2028,” he said. “If you take out President Mahama, the next most popular politician in Ghana is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

The Techiman South MP argued that the former Vice President is already well-known and widely accepted across the country, making him the most marketable option for the NPP.

“Since we began this tour, I have seen at least five billboards of Dr. Bawumia in every town. He has already been marketed. Why should we overlook that, especially when we are in opposition and may face financial constraints?” he asked.

Mr. Mensah Korsah emphasized that the choice of flagbearer should be based on who can win the national election, not who has served longest in the party.

“The 2028 election is not about longevity but about who can win,” he stressed, urging delegates in Techiman North to deliver an even stronger endorsement than Techiman South, which gave Dr. Bawumia his highest vote share in the 2023 primaries.

He concluded by appealing to delegates to “vote massively” for Dr. Bawumia to ensure the NPP remains competitive going into the 2028 polls.

I’ll bring world-class development; you can believe me – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/ill-bring-world-class-development-you-can-believe-me-bawumia/ Sat, 18 Oct 2025 19:03:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589853 Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured Ghanaians of world-class development under his presidency, pointing to his track record of innovation and technological advancement as Vice President as evidence of what is possible.

Dr. Bawumia gave the assurance as he wrapped up his campaign tour of the Bono East Region, where he visited all eleven constituencies.

The final leg of the tour took him to Techiman North and South, where he interacted with party delegates and supporters.

Highlighting his achievements in government, Dr. Bawumia said Ghana had made major strides in digital transformation through initiatives such as the Ghana Card and Mobile Money Interoperability.

He noted that the Ghana Card had placed Ghana ahead of many advanced countries, including the UK, which is now seeking to introduce a similar national identification system.

On digital finance, the Vice President explained that the introduction of the Mobile Money Interoperability platform had revolutionized financial transactions in the country, making Ghana the first in Africa to achieve such a milestone.

“Mobile money accounts have grown from 8 million to 24 million, and the number of agents has increased from 107,000 to about 900,000, all because of the interoperability system,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia also referenced the success of the Zipline drone delivery system, describing Ghana as a global leader in medical drone services, with countries like the United Kingdom now working to emulate the initiative.

Outlining his vision, he stated, “That is why I say, when you vote for me, I will bring world-class development. You can believe me because what I have done as Vice President shows that I will do even more as President.”

He added that ongoing digital reforms in the health sector, including the ability to renew National Health Insurance cards electronically, were part of his broader commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians.

The tour, which is part of his broader political engagement ahead of the 2028 general elections, has already taken him to more than 76 constituencies across the country, including nine in the Ashanti Region. His message of unity, discipline, and grassroots empowerment has been well-received by party members and supporters.

According to his Communications Directorate, the second phase of his Ashanti Region tour will last ten days and cover the remaining constituencies in the region, considered the party’s political stronghold.

The itinerary includes town hall meetings with youth and community leaders, stakeholder engagements with traditional rulers, clergy, and senior party officials, as well as media interactions to further share his vision and rally support for his campaign.

The Directorate described the tour as part of Dr. Acheampong’s wider plan to consolidate the party’s internal cohesion, promote discipline, and strengthen its organizational base ahead of the next elections.

Dr. Acheampong’s leadership approach—described as bold, inclusive, and forward-thinking, is reportedly gaining increasing support among NPP members and stakeholders.

In a statement issued on October 18, his campaign team urged party supporters, the media, and the public to follow updates from the tour via official campaign channels and his social media platforms.

United Party can’t break NPP-NDC duopoly – Dr Asah Asante https://www.adomonline.com/united-party-cant-break-npp-ndc-duopoly-dr-asah-asante/ Fri, 17 Oct 2025 07:24:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589451 Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, Dr Kwame Asah Asante, has cast doubt on the ability of Alan Kyerematen’s newly formed United Party (UP) to make any significant impact on Ghana’s political landscape.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Thursday, October 16, Dr Asante said that while the new party may have good intentions, history shows that Ghana’s political system has long been dominated by two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“As for the duopoly, they cannot do much in that area to break it,” he said.https://www.youtube.com/embed/-iftPQhuLpQ?si=nFqjtw_f1CUP04Qn

“If we look at the political history of this country, it was founded on a two-party system from 1951 up to date. All the parties we’ve had are just born out of these two dominant traditions.”

According to Dr Asante, any other political movement that has emerged over the years has struggled to gain traction because the political culture and voter loyalty remain deeply entrenched in the two major parties.

“Any other party has been eclipsed by these dominant parties. I have no doubt about that,” he added.

“What the new party, the UP, wants to do, they can profess it and say very good things about it. But as to whether they will be able to wrestle power from the dominant political parties, I know it’s an impossible adventure.”

Dr Asante’s comments come after Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, founder of the Movement for Change, officially rebranded his group into a political party known as the United Party, signaling his intent to contest the 2028 general elections outside the NPP fold.

NPP to face major shake-up – United Party https://www.adomonline.com/npp-to-face-major-shake-up-united-party/ Thu, 16 Oct 2025 19:14:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589371 Ghana’s political landscape has taken a dramatic turn with the official launch of the United Party (UP), a new political movement led by Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Minister for Trade and Industry.

The development, analysts say, could redefine Ghana’s electoral politics and challenge the decades-long dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

At a colourful ceremony held in Accra on Thursday, Mr Kyerematen described the birth of the United Party as “the dawn of a new era” and “the end of divisive two-party politics” that, in his view, has stifled Ghana’s progress for far too long.

“The UP is the people’s response to disappointment and disillusionment. Ghanaians are tired of the endless cycle of promises and excuses,” Mr Kyerematen told an enthusiastic audience made up of supporters, media practitioners, and civil society representatives.

“Today, we begin a movement to unite our people, end the duopoly, and bring prosperity to every Ghanaian.”

The United Party, which received its provisional certification from the Electoral Commission on 3 October 2025, is positioning itself as a centrist political alternative — one that promises inclusivity, ethical leadership, and pragmatic economic transformation.

Observers believe the party could attract disenchanted voters, particularly among the youth and the floating electorate, who have grown increasingly vocal about unemployment and economic hardship.

Mr Kyerematen unveiled the party’s flagship economic framework, Vision 2040, also known as the Paradise Project.

The plan seeks to transform Ghana into Africa’s leading economic powerhouse within 15 years, underpinned by his Great Transformational Plan — a comprehensive blueprint centred on debt reduction, private-sector industrialisation, and sustainable development.

Reaffirming the party’s guiding principles, Mr Kyerematen emphasised that the UP stands for integrity, inclusivity, and zero tolerance for corruption.

The party’s emblem, a Monarch Butterfly, symbolises transformation and resilience, while its colours — yellow, black, and white — signify Ghana’s natural wealth, the Black Star of Africa, and purity of purpose.

Interim National Chairman Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface described the rebirth of the United Party tradition as both “symbolic and historic.”

“The UP continues the legacy of integrity, service, and freedom,” he said. “We are uniting under one banner to rescue Ghana from division and restore credibility in governance.”

He further urged Ghanaians weary of the NPP-NDC rivalry to see the United Party as a credible alternative — not a protest movement, but a forward-looking force for renewal.

Interim General Secretary Yaw Buaben Asamoa echoed similar sentiments, calling the UP’s emergence “a wake-up call to the old order.”

He announced the party’s intention to pursue constitutional reforms, including measures to encourage coalition governance, curb excessive partisanship, and replace the Council of State with a Second Chamber representing civil society, traditional authorities, labour, and faith-based organisations.

The event ended on a note of optimism as Mr Kyerematen declared, “The UP is not just another political party; it is a people’s movement for transformation. We will build a Ghana that works for everyone, not just a few. United we stand, divided we fall.”

With the United Party now officially in the political arena, many observers believe the NPP faces its most formidable internal challenge yet — led by one of its former most prominent figures.

Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change is now United Party https://www.adomonline.com/alan-kyerematens-movement-for-change-is-now-united-party/ Thu, 16 Oct 2025 12:13:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589189 Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has officially rebranded his political movement, the Movement for Change, under a new name, the United Party.

The announcement was made at a ceremony in Accra on Thursday, marking what Mr. Kyerematen described as a new phase in his political journey to contest Ghana’s presidency outside the dominance of the two major parties.

According to him, the United Party’s vision is to make Ghana the economic powerhouse of Africa by 2040, driven by innovation, inclusive growth, and strong governance.

Mr. Kyerematen, who resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in September 2023, said his decision to leave was influenced by what he called unfair treatment and deep internal divisions within the governing party.

After his resignation, he launched the Movement for Change, symbolised by the butterfly, promoting what he termed a “transformational leadership agenda” aimed at uniting Ghanaians around national development rather than partisan politics

Choose bold leadership — Ken Agyapong tells NPP delegates https://www.adomonline.com/choose-bold-leadership-ken-agyapong-tells-npp-delegates/ Wed, 15 Oct 2025 18:39:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588919 A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has urged delegates to choose bold and fearless leadership as the party prepares for its presidential primary in January 2026.

Speaking during his campaign tour in the Savannah Region, the Assin Central MP declared that if elected as the party’s presidential candidate, he would never concede defeat in a national election until every vote is counted and the Electoral Commission officially announces the results.

“If I were the presidential candidate, I would never accept defeat till the EC declared the last vote. We need bold men who can face the NDC head-on, else we will go back into opposition,” Mr Agyapong told party supporters.

Although he did not directly mention any names, political observers believe his remarks were aimed at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia — the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer and current contender — who conceded defeat to the NDC’s John Mahama before the official declaration of the 2024 election results.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the NPP, Mr Agyapong said his political journey has always been rooted in dedication to the party’s growth and success.

“The way I love NPP, I will never do anything to destroy it. From 1992, no one has sacrificed for NPP more than I have,” he said, receiving applause from supporters.

He also criticised fellow aspirants who, in his view, lack a clear message for delegates, stating that the party’s future depends on decisive and purposeful leadership.

“Anyone who comes with no campaign message but spends all his time talking during his campaign is wasting his time,” he added.

Kennedy Agyapong remains one of the top contenders in the NPP’s upcoming flagbearer race, which will take place on January 31, 2026.

NPP lost 2024 due to voter apathy, not NDC’s strength – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/npp-lost-2024-due-to-voter-apathy-not-ndcs-strength-bawumia/ Wed, 15 Oct 2025 15:10:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588774 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated that the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections stemmed from low voter turnout among its supporters rather than the strength of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at the launch of his “Our Journey Together” campaign in the Sene East Constituency on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia said election data showed that the NPP’s total votes dropped by more than two million compared to 2020, while the NDC’s victory margin stood at 1.7 million.

“NPP’s votes went down. About 2.1 million people who voted for us in 2020 did not vote in 2024. These were NPP members; we simply didn’t vote,” he said.

He argued that had those members turned out to vote, the NPP would have won the election.

“John Mahama secured victory with 1.7 million votes. If our 2.1 million members had turned out, we would have won. That is why I said it wasn’t the NDC that won the election—it was the NPP that lost it,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism about the party’s chances in 2028, stressing the importance of unity and voter mobilization.

“So, I am confident that, by the grace of God, if we resolve our internal issues and go out to vote, we will win the next election,” he said.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, Mr Kyere-Duah said the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) is poised to retain power, and they are not perturbed by who wins the NPP primary.

“For me, all five candidates on the ballot paper for NPP, we in the NDC are not so much interested in who wins, because whoever wins is definitely going to taste a very bitter defeat in 2028,” he claimed.

“It doesn’t matter whether it is Kennedy Agyapong, Bawumia, or whoever,” he added.

The NPP is scheduled to hold its flagbearer election on January 31 2026, with five candidates contesting.

The five are former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, and the former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Global Patriots Germany urges unity among NPP presidential aspirants https://www.adomonline.com/global-patriots-germany-urges-unity-among-npp-presidential-aspirants/ Sat, 11 Oct 2025 19:01:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2587405 The Global Patriots Germany, a diaspora wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has extended its warm congratulations to the five presidential aspirants who successfully went through the vetting and balloting process ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In a statement, the group described the milestone as a reaffirmation of the NPP’s long-standing commitment to transparency, fairness, and internal democracy.

“This is no small feat, for it shows once again that our great party stands firm on the principles of transparency, fairness, and democracy. These values have been the backbone of the NPP since its birth, and we are proud to see them alive today,” the group said.

The statement, signed on behalf of members of Global Patriots Germany, urged all aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves with dignity and decorum throughout the campaign period.

It emphasized that maintaining unity and mutual respect was essential to preserving the image and strength of the party.

“This is not the time to tear one another down but to lift the party higher,” the statement cautioned, adding that internal divisions or public exchanges of insults could weaken the party’s standing ahead of the national elections.

The group also encouraged the aspirants to focus on sharing their policy ideas and vision for the party and country rather than engaging in personal attacks.

“We urge every aspirant to focus on what truly matters — sharing their vision, policies, and leadership ideas with humility and clarity. A house divided against itself cannot stand,” the statement noted.

Global Patriots Germany further commended all the aspirants for their contributions to the party, describing them as capable leaders who each bring valuable experience and dedication to the NPP’s mission.

However, it stressed that the true strength of the party lies in its ability to compete honorably and remain united after the internal contest.

The group appealed to supporters of all the aspirants to avoid inflammatory language and ensure that their campaigns reflect the party’s values of respect and maturity.

“The tongue is not a sword, yet it can cut deeper than steel. The way we speak today could either build the bridge to victory or burn it down completely,” the statement added.

Concluding, Global Patriots Germany urged all NPP members to prioritize unity before, during, and after the primaries, reminding them that the world is watching how the party manages its internal affairs.

“When the dust settles, it should not be about who won or lost, but about how we stood together as brothers and sisters of the same tradition,” the group emphasized.

The statement ended with a rallying call for solidarity and peace within the party, reaffirming its slogan: “NPP First!”

Ken Agyapong’s candidature is divine; ‘Saul has been rejected, he’s the new David’ – Spokesperson https://www.adomonline.com/ken-agyapongs-candidature-is-divine-saul-has-been-rejected-hes-the-new-david-spokesperson/ Sat, 11 Oct 2025 05:19:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2587312 The campaign team of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, an aspirant in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race, says his bid for the party’s leadership is divinely orchestrated and represents a new era of renewal for the party and Ghanaians.

Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews, the spokesperson for the Ken Agyapong campaign, Kwasi Kwarteng, said the team is convinced that Mr. Agyapong’s candidature goes beyond politics and reflects divine intervention in Ghana’s political landscape.

“Before I went in, I indicated that we are not so much fixated on numbers. We are of a strong and firm conviction that Ken’s election and Ken’s candidature is more divine than we can imagine. It is about time that God is using Ken to restore a certain order,” Mr. Kwarteng said.

Drawing an analogy from the Bible, he likened Mr. Agyapong to the biblical David, saying God is bringing him forth to replace what he called the “rejected Saul” and restore order and purpose.

“If you recall the days of the Israelites, when the Israelites were determined to move in a certain direction, and they intimated to God that they wanted a human king, and God gave them Saul. But at some points, the Israelites felt the conditions and everything about Israel went down. The Israelites went back to God and God gave them David,” he said.

He continued saying, “So we are taking an inspiration from that story that Saul has been rejected, a new David is coming in. So everything that happens through this process is in the hands of the Lord, who is introducing David, and that David is honourable Kennedy Agyapong.”

Mr. Kwarteng added that while the campaign team is encouraged by Mr. Agyapong’s position on the ballot, they are more focused on the message of transformation and divine calling that underpins his candidacy.

“The numbers are good in terms of one being visible if you look at how easy you can identify it on the ballot. It gives us another advantage in terms of when people are not sure and undecided, they go and vote for one. In terms of marketing for the number, it also gives us another advantage,” he added.

Mr. Agyapong is among five aspirants vying for the NPP’s flagbearer slot ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

NPP race: it’s not an auction – Prof. Oquaye condemns GH¢4m dev’t fee   https://www.adomonline.com/npp-race-its-not-an-auction-prof-oquaye-condemns-gh%c2%a24m-devt-fee/ Sat, 11 Oct 2025 05:10:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2587307

Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, has stated that the exorbitant fee being demanded from the intended flagbearers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a suicidal pathway and must be avoided.

A stalwart of the party, he said the election was not an auction and the political party could not be for sale.

Describing the NPP’s demand of GH¢4 million from aspiring flag bearers as a development fee as “a bubonic plague,” Prof. Oquaye stressed that “Moneycracy is not democracy, and a political party must not be seen to be pursuing that pathway.”

He was speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic following the introduction of the development fee of GH¢4 million, which the party explained was supposed to be used to help develop the structures of the party.

Per documents made available by the NPP, the party has asked each aspirant to pay GH¢100,000 for nomination forms, GH¢500,000 for filing, and an additional GH¢4 million as a “development fee.”

Some speculate that the new fee may be used to disqualify some presidential aspirants, favouring only those with deep pockets.

Unreasonable demand

In the view of the former Speaker, the exorbitant fee being demanded by the NPP was “unreasonable” and could negatively impact the party and democratic development of the nation.

Prof. Oquaye, who led a 12-member committee earlier this year to investigate the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general election, said the party should not forget that the development had become a “public issue” and concern for every Ghanaian, saying under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, political parties, in their internal management and activities, must abide by democratic principles.

He explained that the Constitution also prohibited any discrimination against anyone in public affairs.

Prof. Oquaye cited Article 17(1e 2) which says that “All persons shall be equal before the law. (1) A person shall not be discriminated against on grounds of gender, race, colour, origin, creed, or social or economic status.”

He also quoted Article 55 (5), which stipulates that “The internal organisation of a political party shall conform to democratic principles, and its actions and purposes shall not contravene or be inconsistent with this constitution or any other law.”

Throwing light on past financing of the NPP, Prof. Oquaye said the history and tradition of the party showed that its mother party—the United Gold Coast Convention—was launched in 1974 at Saltpond with a ‘Foundation Fund’ to which those who participated in the formation contributed.

He recalled that the leaders were elected without reference to the monetary contributions.

Making reference to himself as a former Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the party in 1992, Prof. Oquaye said he saw how moneys were voluntarily raised through donations and fundraising events of various dimensions.

“Our first flag bearer—Prof. Albert Adu Boahen, whose national campaign team I was a part of—was not elected with any monetary consideration or qualification whatsoever.

“This has followed through reasonable nomination/filing fees over the years,” Prof. Oquaye stated.

The NPP’s elder said the party could not have an owner or a cabal of a few owners by dint of the money they owned or had acquired, stressing that the party must be strong by itself.

Otherwise, when a person was allowed to buy the party, that person would control it according to his own whims and caprices, he added.

“It will become a jingoistic malperformance of ‘he who pays the piper calls the tune.’

This will undermine a conceptualisation I have advocated for the NPP and Ghanaian politics generally—‘Party in Partnership with Government,’” he said.

Citing the commonest complaints of NPP party officeholders and the rank and file, Prof. Oquaye decried how the party was set aside after elections, and the few in government ran the show in the interest of a few.

“The NDC spoke of ‘Family and Friends of the President,’ and the NPP has complained the same! We all know what I am talking about.”

“There is a need to give the party reasonable and considerable autonomy and not drive it into the hands of deep-pocketed men and women,” he said.

Prof. Oquaye, therefore, urged the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party and the NPP in general to revisit fundraising strategies that detached money-raising on the whole from the candidacy for political office.

He stated that political party business was done by raising money from the multitude and, therefore, urged the party to raise money at once by appealing to the elders of the party, trustees, patrons, and the totality of the membership.

Advising against any one person owning any political party in Ghana, the former Speaker of Parliament urged political parties to work to maintain their purity in Ghana.

“It is not any money that can be accepted, even if offered. Due diligence is important to ensure sanity and sanctity in the body politic.”

“We saw a man from abroad who came and bought his way to Parliament and disgraced us when he was arrested, tried, and jailed in the USA for cocaine,” he said.

Breeding corruption

The former Speaker pointed out that one of the main challenges militating against good governance in Ghana was corruption.

He cited how the creeping “moneycracy” in Ghana’s internal party democracy and national political contest at both the parliamentary and presidential levels had been researched by think tanks such as the Institute of Economic Affairs, the Centre for Democratic Development, Ghana (CDD-Ghana), the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) and others.

Those think tanks, he said, had developed strategies to abate the phenomenon rather than fan the flames, which would consume “purity and honesty in our political party systems.”

“It is a truism that political party financing plays a cardinal role today in breeding corruption in the governance and political systems.

“The consequences are dire, and the future is gloomy.

It cannot be further condoned.” Prof. Oquaye stressed

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has rejected reports circulating on social media that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful has been disqualified from the party’s upcoming primaries.

Some reports alleged that Mr. Agyepong failed to pay a mandatory GHC4 million development fee required during the nomination process.

The vetting committee’s report to the National Council and National Executive Committee has allegedly flagged the issue, though the party has not issued an official statement on the matter.

However, in a press release issued on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the Agyepong campaign described the allegations as “false, unfounded, and misleading,” urging supporters and the public to disregard them.

The statement clarified that Mr. Agyepong had successfully completed the NPP Presidential Elections Committee’s vetting process and had been formally invited by the party’s headquarters to participate in the balloting exercise set for Friday, October 10, 2025, at Asylum Down.

“Mr. Agyepong remains a qualified, dedicated, and loyal aspirant committed to upholding the democratic values of the New Patriotic Party and contributing to Ghana’s progress,” the campaign stated.

The team further urged the public to ignore what it called deliberate misinformation aimed at diverting attention from the unity and focus of their campaign.

It added that the campaign remains steadfast in promoting integrity, service, and renewal both within the NPP and the nation.
