Speaking at the Regional Youth and Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) Conference in Goaso in the Ahafo Region, the Minister noted that the administration remains focused on youth empowerment despite inheriting significant structural challenges.

Addressing participants on the theme “Resetting the Nation, Empowering the Youth,” he explained that the current government, led by John Dramani Mahama, took over a weakened system that cannot be fully restored within a short period.

According to him, while expectations remain high, it is unrealistic to expect a complete turnaround within one year and four months. He therefore urged the youth to remain patient and continue to support the government, expressing confidence that all campaign promises would be fulfilled by the end of its four-year mandate.

He emphasised that the government would not disappoint the youth, particularly those in the Ahafo Region, who played a key role in securing five out of six parliamentary seats for the National Democratic Congress in the last elections.

Meanwhile, the Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the party, Masawudu Sulemana, indicated that young people in the region are already benefiting from key interventions rolled out by the government.

In an interview, he cited initiatives such as the No Fees Stress Policy and entrepreneurship programmes as impactful measures contributing to improved livelihoods among the youth.

He added that growing appreciation of these policies has strengthened support for the NDC in the region, expressing optimism that the party would secure another decisive victory if elections were held today.

National Apprenticeship Programme not just about training but ensuring employability – Youth Development Minister https://www.adomonline.com/national-apprenticeship-programme-not-just-about-training-but-ensuring-employability-youth-development-minister/ Mon, 04 Aug 2025 13:10:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2563301 The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has emphasised that the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) is not merely focused on skills training but is designed to ensure long-term employability for young Ghanaians.

According to him, the initiative goes beyond classroom instruction to equip participants with the tools and support needed to succeed in the job market or start their own businesses.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House on Monday, August 4, Mr Opare Addo said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to practical, results-oriented youth development.

“NAP is not just about learning a trade; it is about preparing our young people to find meaningful employment or to become job creators themselves,” he stated.

He noted that the government had deliberately aligned the programme with market needs, ensuring that apprentices are trained in sectors where there is high demand for skilled labour.

“We are working closely with industry players to identify gaps and match them with the right training. That way, our young people are not left with skills that cannot earn them a living,” he added.

The Minister also revealed that mechanisms have been put in place to support graduates of the programme with startup kits and access to micro-financing.

“This is a holistic approach. From training to transition into employment, we are walking with them every step of the way,” Mr Opare Addo affirmed.
