“We started rapping from 1997 in Tema. Your favourite rapper Sarkodie is from Achimota, and he came to Tema to learn the genre” he stated.

In his new song titled “Statement,” Yaa Pono said he is one of the trailblazers, who has entertained Ghanaians through rap for over two decades.

Yaa Pono raps, addressing the perception that Sarkodie is a Tema native. “If you talk rap, it’s me. You cannot take me out, and I control the game.”

Yaa Pono’s rap is in response to lyrics in Sarkodie’s song “Brag,” where he appeared to diss other Ghanaian rappers.

“The time I no come then you people all be jons,” Sarkodie rapped, a line that didn’t sit well with Yaa Pono.

In his song, Yaa Pono insists that Sarkodie should pay respect to rap legends who paved the way for him to thrive in the industry.

“Give all the respect to who you believe… If Reggie and Obrafour didn’t come, we won’t be surviving [in this business],” he states.

Yaa Pono’s “Statement” is already trending on Twitter, as fans eagerly discuss the rapper’s bold declarations and his response to Sarkodie’s lyrics.

The musician revealed that, his family had been plunged into mourning since his father’s passing on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25.

Expressing the difficulty of coping with such a loss during the festive season, Yaa Pono shared his sentiments on social media, acknowledging the pain of saying goodbye to a loved one at this time of the year.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the artiste opened up about the emotional challenge he and his family are currently facing.

“Really hard 4 uptown losing my Dad on a Christmas Day…Jah guide you on your journey,,,Mr Adu Antwi,” read Yaa Pono’s heartfelt message.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the announcement, an outpouring of support and condolences flooded the comment section, with fans and well-wishers expressing their sympathy and offering words of comfort to the grief-stricken rapper.

According to him, their conduct smacks of hypocrisy and double standards.

The controversial musician explained that, majority of these celebrities complaining now campaigned for politicians during elections.

Yaa Pono indicated that, most of the celebrities joining the demonstration just want to woo political leaders to give them money.

He wrote: “Me I no get time to protest, anka menoa Banku ne Nkruma wo fie, u go see the same ppl for rallies with their grandparents, artists going in for money as usual. If like my mother get 7 million pounds u go call me for protest…”

Scores of Ghanaians have taken to social media to express disappointment in the Ghana Police Service over the arrest of about 50 participants of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration.

The protestors “defied” a police injunction to proceed with the march on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

The Ghana Police Service filed an injunction application against the march on Wednesday and urged the public not to participate because it was unlawful.

However, the organisers Democracy Hub, insisted the protest would go on because they had not been served.

The announcement attracted hundreds of Ghanaians to the 37 Trotro Station which was the convergence point, leading to the arrest of #FixTheCountry convenor, Oliver Barker-Vormawor and several protestors.

However, the duo – Shatta Wale and Yaa Pono – just cannot see eye to eye over opinion on who is a better lyricist.

It is one lyrical warfare after another anytime their names are in the same headline, that notwithstanding, Ghanaians expected Yaa Pono to grace Shatta’s Freedom Concert as a sign of unity.

But Pono, in a latest interview shifted the blame on Shatta who he said did not invite him.

“It was too early and besides I did not get a call. I was expecting a call and not a social media thing because if I want him on a song or video, I won’t invite him in a video to show seriousness. He was not really serious,” Yaa Pono explained in an interview on Kingdom FM.

He further stated that his management would have been involved to decide the terms of his performance on strictly business mode.

Whether he would demand payment or engage in barter trade, Pono said he expected such conversations from Shatta.

Pono revealed that aside their musical ‘beef’ he has no personal issues with the Dancehall King and expected him to behave accordingly.

As a matter of fact, he expects positive encounters in the near future.

DJ Azonto in an earlier interview had negative things to say when asked of his relationship with Yaa Pono who was hitherto known to be his associate.

This caused a rift between the two, but DJ Azonto after careful assessment said he has eaten humble pie and admitted he went overboard.

In his opinion, though what he said were facts, he had no right to bring their issue out for public consumption.

In an interview with Fiifi Pratt on Kingdom FM he struggled to hold back tears while expressing how much he misses their friendship.

According to him, Yaa Pono turned down all apologies rendered on his behalf, so he used the opportunity to make a personal humble plea.

DJ Azonto went on his knees and begged for forgiveness.

A single collaboration is all he needs from Yaa Pono who he described as his brother.

The unidentified Facebook account thieves took over Yaa Pono’s platform on Monday, January 19, and have constantly shared items in relation to his account name, Ponobiom.

After Pono’s last social media post exactly a week ago, the hackers have limited his access, while publishing erotic pictures and videos on a daily basis.

Fans were left in bewilderment as the musician, since the creation of his account, has never posted X-rated content.

After pressure mounted on him, Yaa Pono has been forced to publicly announce that his Facebook account has been hacked.

Though the hacker left no traces of an identity, he has been posting content solely for one Luciano Vargas, a Spanish content creator specialised in DIY items.

Meanwhile, his followers remain intact and nothing has been changed from his profile, except for its content.

His other social media platforms are, however, intact.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Friday, July 23, 2021, the rapper, whose real name is Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, explained how he journeyed to Accra prior to him appearing on Adom FM.

The First Sermon hitmaker, who hails from Konongo ‘Zongo’, said comedian Ajeezay saw the talent in him after his previous songs became instant hits in his hometown.

He added that, Ajeezay posted some of his videos on his Instagram page that caught the attention of rapper Yaa Pono (Ponobiom), who urged Ajeezay to invite him to Accra from Konongo in the Ashanti Region.

He added that his father left Ghana a long time ago and when he was in Class 5 in primary school, his mum also followed up, hence he had to live with some of his family members.

Adom was the first radio station I entered when I started doing music… That was when I knew I would be a star… then I went to Pono’s house right after to record the song…

When Andy Dosty said it is apt for him to remember people who help him since others rarely recall, Black Sherif replied: No matter how small the help was, it puts you somewhere so you have to remember those who helped you up the ladder. They gave you hope regardless.

The young musician, however, urged Ghanaians to expect his song with Yaa Pono soon as his Second Sermon continues to make waves.

Black Sherif is currently topping the charts on Apple Music Top 100 songs in Ghana with his Second Sermon song. His First Sermon is also clocked at number three.

Earlier, Yaa Pono and Shatta Wale were throwing jabs at each other until Samini came into the picture on Tuesday morning to steal Pono’s shine.

According to Samini, Shatta Wale isn’t at par with him with regards to music, hence he shouldn’t disrespect him in any way.

The dancehall duo went a long way to throw tantrums at each other until Yaa Pono returned with a gentle gesture and asked Samini to leave Shatta Wale for him.

Shatta Wale, reacting to rapper Yaa Pono’s planned beef which he shut out, said beefs are now meant for underground artistes like Patapaa.

The comment has touched a spot of sadness in Patapaa who is doing his possible best to connect Ghana artistically to the rest of the world.

“This is a No No No”, according to Patapaa, especially coming from an artiste he said he reveres to the extent of tagging him his Godfather.

The One Corner hitmaker lamented that from the day he introduced his music, he has been undermined and underrated by both senior and junior colleagues.

In an interview on Adom TV, monitored by Adomonline.com, the Amen hitmaker said though every musician is entitled to their opinion, it doesn’t permit them to degrade other music genres.

Ponobiom recalled his friction with Shatta Wale and his team in Cape Coast, which resulted into one of the hottest feuds in the history of Ghana, to buttress his point about putting people in their spot when he has to.

According to him, the rap culture must be accorded the maximum respect because the hip-life genre forms the soul of Ghana’s music presently.

When I had a conflict with Shatta Wale, it brought many issues in Ghana and I admitted it as a rapper and I took my right to call but looking at this one it’s still a song so its not something I will take serious.

I don’t take it serious but if you stand somewhere and degrade the culture, I won’t like that… not just me but everyone… we all want Ghana to move forward, he told Sister Sandy.

Ponobiom posted a snippet of a new song he is yet to drop and fans speculated it will be directed at Shatta Wale per the caption:

The rapper has been trending on twitter since fans put him on a scale with colleague rapper Strongman, in an attempt to elect who the best beef lyricist is.

According to them, none of the two rappers have lost rap feuds in their career, hence it would be epic to watch them go head-to-head.

He gave the advice shortly after making peace with rapper Yaa Pono at D Blacks’ Club Onyx where he revealed that such beefs are artificial and are for financial gains hence should be taken lightly.

 “I want to send this message across; when we are beefing, my fans, I beg don’t take it to heart because we make money from it, we are like politicians,” he advised.

The two artistes on the night could be seen laughing heartedly and enjoying each other’s company as fans applauded them for the maturity in handling their stale relationship.

The rift between Shatta and Yaa Pono started in 2017 when Shatta Wale’s team denied Yaa Pono the opportunity of performing on the same stage during a concert in Cape Coast.

Unhappy with the development, Yaa Pono composed a song he titled “Gbee naabu” to teach him a lyrical lesson while mocking the size of his mouth.

But the latest advice from Shatta could mean that all those moments were faked for the cash.

It isn’t mandatory but as a custom or norm some perform to grace the occasion where fans, loved ones of the fallen artiste gather to pay their last respects, but in an interview with rapper Yaa Pono he said he doesn’t want that.

According to him, his will is to stop musicians from performing at his funeral grounds when he kicks the bucket.

I have told my mum, dad and even elder sister that I don’t want musicians to perform at my funeral when I die. That is my will and it is personal, he said.

Queried if he does not want any feud at his funeral, hence the decision, the ‘Amen’ hitmaker simply said: Why should my colleagues perform when I am dead? Everyone and what they like and that is my will,

The ‘Chop Kiss’ hitmaker who was the subject of recent trolls for scoffing fellow dancehall singer and BET award winner, Stonebwoy over his recent nomination in an interview on GHone’s entertainment show the Pundits on Tuesday said “I enjoy industry beef. It is fun.”

According to him, he feels scandalized when colleagues take beefs “personal” noting that he sees it as “something should be planned, so when we are doing it the public might love it and see educative stuff in them.”

Touching on his recent beef with Yaa Pono, the ‘Kakai’ hitmaker stated that he called the latter and his management to talk about their recent feud and how things should go.

He said “with beefs, I feel we should put things on the table and plan… even with my recent beef with Yaa Pono, I called him personally and told him how things should go but people think I thrive off controversies.”

Asked if his feud with Samini was planned, he said: “Samini and I didn’t plan the beef, later on I met him and told him, I did all that for us to make some money from our beef… If he had understood me from the beginning we would have made some good money.”

Shatta Wale is billed to perform at Ghana meets Naija slated for Saturday, 27th May 2017.

Wadding into her husband’s beef with Yaa Pono, the actress was swift to distance herself from any lesbian act.

Radio presenter Abeiku Santana in a short Instagram interview quizzed Shatta Mitchy if she was a lesbian and what she made of Yaa Pono’s accusations.

She responded, “I’m not lesbian, he [Yaa Pono] should get a hit song.”

The beef between Yaa Pono and Shatta Wale escalated after the former was denied an opportunity to perform at a concert headlined by Shatta Wale in Cape Coast in the Central region in February this year.

The organizers of the concert later explained that Yaa Pono was unable to perform because they were running out of time and therefore had to cut down on the performances.

Things got ugly when the two released diss tracks to attack each other.

Recently rapper Kwaw Kese claimed that no Ghanaian entertainment personality owns a $1 million house in the country.

His claims followed declarations by Fuse ODG and Shatta Wale that they have purchased mansions worth $1 million dollars.

Shatta Mitchy, commenting on the criticisms by Kwaw Kese, noted that the mansion is real and “it is opening soon.”
