According to him, the use of dubious means to acquire wealth in the country is gaining popularity.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz with Amelley Djosu, the alternative musician contends that one has to either be a politician, pastor, or fraudster in order to be rich.

This phenomenon, Worlasi described as an affront to hard work.

He believes society will be doomed if individuals with ill-gotten money are hailed and regarded as accomplished personalities.

“Before you can be successful in this country, you either have to be a politician, pastor, or fraudster, and it is not looking good. Why can’t doctors be millionaires like in other countries? Why can’t IT designers also be billionaires? Why can’t we have people like that who are billionaires? Why does it always have to be politicians, pastors, or fraudsters? It’s just not nice,” he said.

The ‘We All Go Die’ hitmaker also bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of the government towards the growth and development of the music industry.

“It’s nice to see someone come out of nothing and create something, and the government even supports it, like there are countries that are supporting artistes to even create albums. You can go and collect money and create an album.”

“I have not heard of anything like that in this country where the entertainment aspect of the governance is supporting artiste to even do shows,” he said.

In Worlasi’s opinion, musicians are rather regarded for the connections they have with people of high authority than their work as artistes.

Ghanaian politicians have no respect for artistes – Worlasi https://www.adomonline.com/ghanaian-politicians-have-no-respect-for-artistes-worlasi/ Thu, 14 Dec 2023 14:21:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2332233 Award-winning Ghanaian musician, Worlasi Langani has described as disrespectful the penchant of some politicians to use songs without the composer’s consent.

According to him, politicians completely ignore their financial obligations when they use copyrighted songs for their political campaigns.

Speaking in an interview with Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, Worlasi stressed that, politicians deliberately violate intellectual property laws due to an ineffective system.

“They are aware; they understand that in other countries when you use somebody’s music for a show or documentary, or for any purpose at all that is going to bring you money, then it means you have to pay the artiste for the money. There are no systems in place to monetize the money that is being paid,” he said.

The musician partly blamed the impudence of politicians for the snail-pace growth of the Ghanaian music industry.

Nigeria is arguably popular for afrobeats. Worlasi feels Ghana could be equally popular and rich for its music if politicians and individuals in positions of influence give the artistes what they deserve.

“Politicians do not have any respect for artistes because if they did, artistes would be taking the name of Ghana far, but they are not. Look at Nigeria; now Nigeria is popular because of afrobeats; it’s the biggest thing in Nigeria; it’s not Dangote salt or sugar.”

“The biggest thing in Nigeria is music and art, and if Ghana can understand that aspect of it and the leaders can understand that aspect of it, it will change the course of Ghana; it will bring so much attention to Ghana, and they can keep making more money and stealing more of it,” he stressed.

Worlasi alleged that, whether the citizens like it or not, politicians will always steal public funds, but they should prioritize the welfare of the populace.

“It’s like telling your father, ‘Daddy, you can’t go and buy beer.” No, no, if Daddy is not paying school fees, you can tell Daddy, ‘don’t go and buy beer’ but if Daddy is paying school fees and you’ve learned and got some money, you’d even buy Daddy more beer. I’m not saying steal, but whether we like it or not, you will steal, so just do something,” he explained.

There is a mess awaiting Kuami Eugene, Mr Drew & Worlasi among others – Hammer [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/there-is-a-mess-awaiting-kuami-eugene-mr-drew-worlasi-among-others-hammer-video/ Mon, 28 Jun 2021 22:30:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1979612 Music producer Hammer says the music career of some talented musicians in the Ghana music industry will dwindle if some attitudes aren’t changed.

According to the A-list producer, many of them are heading towards an uncertain future due to spike of selfishness among industry players in the entertainment sphere.

He cited Daddy Lumba as one artiste, who needed to be projected to the world, but due to selfishness in the industry, he will retire a local champion.

MORE:

Hammer, speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z show over the weekend, said until “each one for himself” attitude is changed, new crop of artistes such as Kuami Eugene, Mr Drew, and Worlasi among others can’t reach the peak of their careers.

We didn’t have to make Lumba a local champion. We could have made him sell auditoriums and stadiums around the world.

But our attitude as each one for himself has taken us there. These young boys will be victims of our interior selfishness… We need to be selfish as a country very important that we don’t let people in else we cannot win, he said.

Titled the ‘Message from tired people who’ve been lied to’, Worlasi captures images of communities with one developmental deficiency or another to convey his message.

These flashes of images of numerous communities are laced with flashes of a man, who represents the politician, blissfully enjoying while staying blind to the cries of the people.

“It is okay to chop small, work more. You have all it takes to make a difference, your people need you,” the caption of the video read.

Why Ghanaians hail comic songs – Worlasi reveals [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/why-ghanaians-hail-comic-songs-worlasi-reveals-video/ Sat, 27 Mar 2021 15:55:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1940122 Ghanaian musician Worlasi says Ghanaians are more inclined to comic songs because of economic woes in the country.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Tête-à-Tête show, he said most Ghanaians enjoy comical music because people are going through a lot, hence they need to be entertainment.

After my first album, it was all about the work. Its just the taste of music is quite vast when it comes to comic music which is also another part of music which is interesting and fun and with a country that people are going through a lot its easier to be aligned to comic than anything that is classical or deep, he explained.

Worlasi also blamed the media for failing to balance the genre of songs that are aired on the airwaves.

MORE:

The media has fed people so much comic songs that ….Its the balance of feeding of the people, if you feed dog three times a day and give it one a day it will bark at you.

The people become powerful when they get addicted to what we feed them.

Going forward with his music craft, Worlasi disclosed that he would love to have a huge team to take him onto the next level.

I would love to have a huge team. Every artiste needs that… very soon things might turn out to be different.

I think Ghanaians have been fair to musicians to some extent because I would not get here without fans, presenters and music.. I would have stopped music, he told host Kweku Adu Kumi.

Ghana’s music industry is full of ‘who knows who’ – Worlasi https://www.adomonline.com/ghanas-music-industry-is-full-of-who-knows-who-worlasi/ Tue, 16 Mar 2021 16:37:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1934123 Ghanaian musician and painter, Worlasi Langani, popularly known as Worlasi, says he cannot veer off the path of authentic music.

According to the soothing singer, gatekeepers in Ghana’s music sphere are more inclined to connections and payolas than pure talent.

I will never ever let any ‘industry player’ in Ghana make me feel I’m not doing good music. NEVER. We made a classic … I’m a genius! Our industry is full of who knows who and who pays who, he said on Facebook.

Ghanaians have poured out their rage on social media after Nigeria’s Burna Boy and Wizkid emerged winners in the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Their win has got many industry players to voice out why Ghana has still not achieved such a feat and one of them is Worlasi, who said only a few people genuinely play quality music that they know can cross borders and make this country be known for its authenticity!

Worlasi explained that knowing his worth, he will never let social media critics get to him.

MORE:

According to the Pawa hitmaker, he will thrive musically till he wins a Grammy even if he is supported or not.

I will never ever let any ‘industry player’ in Ghana make me feel I’m not doing good music. NEVER. We made a classic … I’m a genius! And I bless anyone that ever supported me and my music. I am not a marketing genius but I’m doing my best and won’t stop till the whole world sees it.

As for you people dier continue insulting artistes. Most of all these people bashing Ghanaian acts don’t even play their music … smh .. You people know how to talk but you cannot deliver! If you know so much why are we where we are?

Because I focus on music hardly comment on these things because i hate unnecessary attention!!! But henceforth I won’t take it from any player. You are not on my team!!! And if you don’t appreciate us it’s your loss… I am golden – we no start Dey shine sef ?
