The latest storm has severely damaged several public schools, including Kpandai Primary School, Lessing Primary, Kpandai DA, New Nkanchina, and Balia Basic School, disrupting academic activities.

Authorities at the affected schools are appealing for urgent support to repair the damage.

Beyond the schools, over 20 houses have been destroyed, leaving many residents displaced and suffering economic losses.

ASASE 91.5 FM, an affiliate of Adom 106.3 FM, was also hit, with its transmission tower completely crushed.

The station manager confirmed the destruction and called for assistance to restore operations

Several homes, stores and school buildings were severely affected, with properties worth thousands of cedis damaged.

During Adom News’ Odehyeba Owusu Job’s visit to the affected areas, including Wiae and Buya, residents recounted the devastating impact of the storm.

At Buya Basic School, the storm ripped off the roofs of classroom blocks, leaving both students and teachers stranded.

Many expressed concern over their losses and appealed to the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Mathew Nyindam, as well as the government, NGOs, and other stakeholders, to provide immediate relief and support.

The NPP Constituency Chairman for Kpandai, Mr. Kennedy Gyato, speaking on behalf of the MP, assured residents that their concerns would be relayed for urgent attention.

He also called on benevolent organizations and the government to assist those affected.

Despite the extensive damage, no casualties were recorded.

The incident happened on Monday, October 30, 2023.

According to reports, the incident occurred during a festive event organized by the Chiefs and elders of Badu to mark the annual Bometuo festival.

The Assemblyman for Badu Fawoman-Asuafu electoral area, Joseph Okyere, narrating the incident on Adom News said residents were engaged in a spirited game when an unexpected bout of heavy rains and a fierce windstorm swept through the area.

He said the people decided to seek shelter inside a pavilion situated at the Badu R/C Junior High School in Badu Fawoman.

Tragically, the pavilion collapsed due to the powerful windstorm resulting in the loss of three lives and left many others with severe injuries.

Fortunately, he said some individuals managed to escape.

Mr. Okyere said those injured were rushed to the closest healthcare facility in the area for medical attention.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have also been deposited at the Tain government hospital morgue.
