The distressing incident occurred on Wednesday, 7th May 2025.

According to a community leader, Mr Kwashi Senaya, the graves were found desecrated, with visible damage at the head end.

“The heads of the deceased were gone,” he said, adding that the affected cemeteries belong to the Amefinu and Kponor families.

The matter has been reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Agbozume Police Station. Authorities have since launched a full investigation to identify and apprehend those behind what many are describing as a heinous and sacrilegious act.

Assembly Member for the Logove Electoral Area, Ibrahim Ayuba, has appealed for calm, urging residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies.

He also encouraged community members to volunteer any information that may assist the police in their ongoing inquiries.

As the investigation unfolds, the community continues to grapple with fear, outrage, and unanswered questions over the motive behind the desecration of the graves.

Enough is enough – V/R Minister slams ECG over persistent power outages https://www.adomonline.com/enough-is-enough-v-r-minister-slams-ecg-over-persistent-power-outages/ Tue, 15 Apr 2025 16:46:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2525715 Volta Regional Minister James Gunu has voiced his frustration over the persistent power outages and low voltage affecting communities and businesses across the region.

In a recent statement, he criticized the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for what he called a “complete disappointment” in its service, urging for immediate and transparent communication and greater accountability.

“Whatever the challenges are, let us know. There must be communication – regular communication – with the people,” Minister Gunu insisted. He emphasized the need for advance warnings about power cuts so residents and businesses can prepare, noting that many people had suffered damages to appliances like fridges due to unannounced outages.

His remarks reflected growing public dissatisfaction, with residents and business owners continuing to endure losses because of unreliable and unpredictable power supply.

“You are disappointing the people of this region. What crime have we committed?” Gunu asked, urging ECG and other underperforming institutions to work on restoring trust and improving their performance.

In response, ECG’s Volta Regional Manager, Ms. Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, acknowledged the challenges and explained that much of the issue stemmed from limitations within the electricity transmission network managed by GRIDCo, ECG’s upstream supplier.

“If what they give us is already low, by the time it reaches you, it’s insufficient,” she explained. Ms. Jatoe-Kaleo assured the public that efforts were underway to address the crisis, and while ECG cannot control external factors, they are in constant discussions with GRIDCo to find solutions.

She distinguished between planned outages, which ECG is legally required to announce, and unplanned interruptions caused by technical faults, particularly during the night. She assured the Minister that ECG’s technical team operates around the clock to detect and resolve faults in the system.

“We always inform the media and local assemblies about planned outages,” she said, adding that engineers are continuously working in the field to address issues as they arise. She also highlighted internal initiatives to improve technical capacity and stressed the importance of collaboration between ECG, GRIDCo, and government stakeholders to tackle the challenges.

Despite these assurances, Minister Gunu expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing situation, warning that the region’s patience was running thin.

He criticized the lack of progress, saying, “We’ve written to you, but I know the usual excuse — that the letter wasn’t received. That’s why I’ve come in person. Today, I am the letter.”

The ECG has also faced recent controversies, with reports revealing that over a thousand containers of imported equipment and supplies have gone missing at the Tema Port, further compounding public frustrations.

Ghanaian artiste Agbeshie talks Volta Region’s music growth https://www.adomonline.com/ghanaian-artiste-agbeshie-talks-volta-regions-music-growth/ Fri, 11 Apr 2025 08:55:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2524126

Ghanaian artiste Agbeshie has shared insights on the growth of the music industry in the Volta Region during a recent interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty.

According to Agbeshie, the region, which had previously been overlooked, has now cultivated its own superstars and developed a thriving music scene.

“I can boldly tell you that, over time, the Volta Region has been isolated, or has been left aside in the way. Over the years, the region has created its own superstars, trust me. You see, I’m here today. Anytime I come here to promote them,” he said.

Agbeshie highlighted that many big artistes remain unaware of the vibrant music market in the Volta Region and often exclude it from their promotional plans.

“The last time I checked, I went to Takoradi to promote my songs because I believe there are Ewes there. But the artistes that are, excuse me, A-list or big artistes here, don’t go to the Volta Region to do anything. So, the masses are like, look, if you guys are not coming, no problem, we have our superstars here, and we’re going to grow them, and they’ve grown them with time,” he said.

As a result, the Volta Region has cultivated its own unique musical identity, with local artistes like Agbeshie becoming household names.

“So, like, you know, in the North, you can’t go to the North without Fancy Gadam and co. Our region has gone to that point where, even, excuse me, no matter how big you think you are here, when you come to the Volta Region, they no dey look you, but they’re waiting for Agbeshie because Agbeshie has been in their eyes and their minds over time,” he added.

In the meantime, Agbeshie has released a new song titled ‘Alakpato’ featuring Chief Wan.

Volta NDC lauds Mahama for financial commitment to Akosombo Dam spillage https://www.adomonline.com/volta-ndc-lauds-mahama-for-financial-commitment-to-akosombo-dam-spillage/ Mon, 17 Mar 2025 14:02:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2515591 the Volta Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed appreciation to President John Mahama for his commitment to addressing the plight of victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage and tidal waves affecting coastal communities in Ketu South and Keta.

In a statement issued on March 13, the party commended Mahama’s decision to allocate substantial financial resources to assist affected families.

The recently presented budget by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson earmarked GHC 242.5 million for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage and an additional GHC 200 million for relief efforts in Agavedzi, Amutsinu, Salakope, and Adina—coastal communities that have suffered persistent tidal wave destruction over the years.

The statement, signed by the NDC’s Volta Regional Chairman, Mawutor Agbavitor, described these allocations as bold and compassionate interventions that reaffirm Mahama’s concern for the well-being of affected residents.

According to the Volta NDC, the relief funds will not only provide immediate support to displaced families but also contribute to long-term recovery efforts aimed at restoring dignity and stability to these communities.

“The Volta NDC has meticulously examined the budget and has no doubt that President Mahama’s policies are bold, visionary, sensitive, and people-centred,” the statement read. “His actions are a powerful testament to his unwavering commitment to governance that prioritises human development, economic resilience, and social justice.”

The party emphasized that these financial commitments align with Mahama’s broader agenda to reset Ghana’s economy while alleviating the hardships of ordinary citizens.

The statement noted that Mahama’s leadership continues to inspire trust and confidence, especially among residents of the Volta Region, who have long sought concrete government intervention to mitigate the impact of climate-induced disasters.

Communities along Ghana’s southeastern coast have repeatedly suffered from tidal waves, with homes and livelihoods lost to the sea.

Residents and advocacy groups have consistently called for government intervention, and the announcement of this strategic funding has been welcomed as a long-overdue response to their needs.

As relief efforts commence, stakeholders, including local leaders and development partners, are expected to collaborate to ensure the effective and transparent disbursement of funds to beneficiaries.

The NDC’s commendation of Mahama’s efforts underscores the significance of the budgetary allocations in addressing long-standing challenges faced by the Volta Region’s coastal communities.

It also signals growing expectations for sustained government support in tackling environmental and climate-related vulnerabilities across the region.

Families forced to sleep in the open as tidal waves hit parts of Volta Region https://www.adomonline.com/families-forced-to-sleep-in-the-open-as-tidal-waves-hit-parts-of-volta-region/ Tue, 04 Mar 2025 16:33:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2511128

Agavedzi, Salakope, and Amutinu—once thriving coastal communities in the Volta Region—are now reduced to shadows of their former selves, ravaged by relentless tidal waves.

These waves have destroyed homes, farmlands, and even cemeteries, leaving hundreds of families stranded in conditions unfit for human dignity.

In a situation that echoes the aftermath of war, entire families—men, women, and children—can be seen sleeping by the roadside, seeking refuge under the cold night air and dim streetlights. In Agavedzi, a family has even been forced to live inside a premix fuel facility, sharing space with highly flammable products due to a lack of alternatives.

A Forgotten Promise: The Abandoned Housing Project

Amid this crisis, abandoned housing units—intended to provide shelter for displaced residents—now stand as monuments to broken promises. The structures, meant to offer hope, have deteriorated over the years, now overrun with weeds and crumbling walls. The residents, who desperately need shelter, can only watch as these buildings stand vacant.

The Emotional Toll

The emotional and psychological toll on residents is severe. Parents helplessly watch their children sleep on empty stomachs. Young mothers cradle their babies on bare ground, shivering through the night, while elderly residents wander, unable to accept their homelessness. The heartbreaking act of exhuming the remains of loved ones, forced by the encroaching sea, has intensified their pain.

A Deafening Silence from Authorities

Despite government officials and MPs visiting the affected communities, their presence has yielded only empty promises. Bureaucratic processes continue, but families remain without shelter or food, and no clear plan for relocation has been provided. The people of these communities have been left with no real solutions, their suffering ignored.

A forgotten promise: the decaying housing project

The emotional and psychological toll

A Call for Urgent Action

This humanitarian crisis demands immediate intervention. The government must revive the abandoned housing project to provide shelter for the displaced. Emergency relief—food, tents, and medical aid—must be sent to those sleeping on the streets. Most importantly, sea defense projects must be expedited to protect the remaining communities from further devastation.

If urgent action is not taken, more families will be left homeless, more children will suffer, and more lives will be lost—not only to the tidal waves but also to the neglect of those in power. The time to act is now. The people of Agavedzi, Salakope, and Amutinu deserve better.

A deafening silence from authorities

VRA-NEDCo staff reject alleged political appointment of Corporate Communications Manager https://www.adomonline.com/vra-nedco-staff-reject-alleged-political-appointment-of-corporate-communications-manager/ Mon, 03 Mar 2025 12:13:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2510381 The leadership of the Volta River Authority-Northern Electricity Distribution Company (VRA-NEDCo) Staff Groups has strongly rejected the alleged appointment of Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as Corporate Communications Manager of NEDCo.

In a press statement issued on Monday, March 3, 2025, the staff described the purported appointment as irregular, illegal, and a violation of NEDCo’s corporate governance principles.

They maintained that no official appointment had been made and urged the government to refrain from political interference in the company’s affairs.

According to the staff, Mr. Salifu himself announced the appointment on Dreamz FM, a Bolgatanga-based radio station, on February 26, 2025, despite it contradicting NEDCo’s established recruitment policies.

They further noted that the current Corporate Communications Manager has served for 20 years, earning the position through merit.

They argued that bypassing him with a politically appointed individual would undermine professionalism and demoralize staff.

Citing the Supreme Court case Theophilus Donkor v. The Attorney General, the statement clarified that presidential appointments do not extend to public service positions under Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution.

They also emphasized that NEDCo, as a limited liability company wholly owned by VRA, is not classified as a public service entity under Article 190 and, therefore, must follow the Companies Act and its internal procedures for managerial appointments.

“Never in NEDCo’s history has a managerial position been filled directly by the government or the Office of the President. This sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the professional standards that have been the bedrock of our organization,” the statement read.

The staff reiterated that while the political class has the authority to make certain appointments, such powers must be exercised within legal limits to preserve the integrity of the institution.

Water scarcity in Agotime-Ziope, Adaklu districts to worsen as Tordze gets polluted https://www.adomonline.com/water-scarcity-in-agotime-ziope-adaklu-districts-to-worsen-as-tordze-gets-polluted/ Thu, 20 Feb 2025 06:20:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2506542 Residents in the Agortime-Ziope District and parts of the Adaklu District are expected to face dire water scarcity as Tordze, their main source of water, is reportedly polluted.

The Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) issued a press release communicating the incident of the pollution at Tove in the Republic of Togo.

It indicated that agrochemicals spilled from a truck into Tordze after it was involved in an accident on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

“It is essential to assess the level of contamination in the Tordze River and its adjoining water bodies in Ghana before declaring them safe for any human activity, including fishing,” stated the release signed by Augustus Awity, the Chief Director of the VRCC.

He, therefore, warned residents living along Tordze to desist from relying on the river for “drinking, fishing, irrigation, or washing” until the safety of the water is ascertained.

However, municipal and district assemblies have been directed to serve the affected areas with water in the interim while efforts are being made to resolve the issues and make the water fit for human consumption.

It’s about experience, not age – Council of State nominee Gabriel Tanko https://www.adomonline.com/its-about-experience-not-age-council-of-state-nominee-gabriel-tanko/ Wed, 12 Feb 2025 06:41:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2503416 A Council of State nominee for the Volta Region has dismissed claims that age should be a determining factor in selecting members for the advisory body, emphasizing that experience and expertise are what truly matter.

Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko, speaking on Joy FM’s PM Express on Tuesday, February 11, clarified that the 1992 Constitution does not specify any age requirement for individuals seeking to represent their region on the Council of State.

“You would agree with me that Article 89 of our Constitution, which makes provisions for the Council of State, has been clear. If you look at the provisions, no age factor has been put there,” he stated.

For Kwamigah Tanko, the most important qualification is the ability to provide informed and strategic advice to the President.

“So far as you qualify to contest, you have the liberty to do so and represent your region on the council. I believe it’s about expertise.

“I believe it’s about how best you can also help the President to provide this advisory role in the discharge of his duties,” he explained.

He underscored his deep understanding of the Council’s key functions, which, according to him, go beyond merely offering advice to the President.

“I’ve gone beyond to at least understand the core functions of the Council. Key amongst these functions has to do with the House Affairs Committee. There’s going to be a Social Intervention Committee and then an Economic Committee,” he noted.

Kwamigah Tanko maintained that being an effective member of the Council of State requires a strong grasp of these crucial areas.

“I believe all of these areas have to do with your expertise to see how, at the end of the day, you are considered to be a member of this council to offer your advice to the President. So basically, it’s about experience. It hasn’t got to do with age,” he stressed.

V/R: Allegations of vote buying, party interference emerge in Council of State election https://www.adomonline.com/v-r-allegations-of-vote-buying-party-interference-emerge-in-council-of-state-election/ Tue, 11 Feb 2025 12:29:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2503167 The just-ended Council of State election in the Volta Region has sparked controversy following allegations of vote buying and political interference made by aspirant Dr. David Kofi Wuaku.

Dr. Wuaku claimed that the election was neither free nor fair, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives of openly supporting a single candidate and blocking other contenders from engaging with delegates.

He described the situation as a manipulated process designed to influence the outcome, lamenting that some NDC-affiliated individuals actively obstructed him from sharing his message with voters.

“Third-party executive meeting delegates in the night. I went there, now closed-door party. Some boys called the third-party organizers prevented a candidate from having access to the information you are giving to delegates. What is that?” Dr. Wuaku questioned.

The alleged interference extended beyond party executives, as Dr. Wuaku also accused security forces and government officials of playing a role in the manipulation.

He recounted a situation where the regional police command sought clarification from a minister, only for the minister to give conflicting accounts.

“When the police command called the minister, he said a different thing. When I met him, he said a different thing. Why should we call this an election? This is not an election,” he argued.

His claims gained weight after NDC Regional Secretary Bright Egeh confirmed the party’s vested interest in the election outcome, stating, “Yes, the executives have an interest, and we are doing everything possible to make our candidate win.”

This revelation has raised concerns about the credibility of the election process, with political analysts and civil society groups calling for an independent investigation into the allegations.

Critics argue that political party interference in the Council of State election undermines the institution’s intended purpose of providing non-partisan advice to the presidency.

In response, Dr. Wuaku is urging traditional leaders, assembly members, and the people of the Volta Region to hold their representatives accountable, warning that such interference could set a dangerous precedent for governance.

“I am calling on you to hold your representatives responsible for this kind of decision to send our region back,” he declared.

Despite his disappointment, Dr. Wuaku reaffirmed his commitment to national development, stating, “I will work hard to develop Ghana. I will develop Ghana. I will showcase my works to Ghanaians, and everybody will see that when you elect the right person, you have the right people. But when you elect the wrong people, everybody will suffer.”

His remarks highlight broader concerns about political manipulation in Ghana’s elections. With mounting pressure from stakeholders, the Electoral Commission and relevant authorities may soon be forced to address the conduct of the Volta Region Council of State election.

The controversy continues, raising questions about whether the election was about true representation or political loyalty.

Volta Region roads to receive top priority – James Gunu https://www.adomonline.com/volta-region-roads-to-receive-top-priority-james-gunu/ Thu, 06 Feb 2025 10:06:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2501322 The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, firmly reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s strong commitment to prioritizing road infrastructure in the Volta Region.

In a conversation on Channel One TV, Mr. Gunu stressed the immediate necessity to address several critical roads in the region that have been left in disrepair by the previous administration.

He unequivocally condemned the past NPP administration for its blatant disregard in excluding the Volta Region from the national emergency road budget.

“To ensure that the priorities of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama are realized, specifically roads, there is one major road that is so dear to the heart of the people and the President himself. That is the road from Ho to Tokpo, through Agotime-Ziope, through Akatsi North, through Ketu North, through Dzordze, and onto Aflao in Ketu South. It’s in a terrible state.

“And that road was selected under the NPP as one of the emergency roads. When they drew the national budget, capturing emergency roads in the country, they left out the Volta Region.

“When our MPs and the good people of the region started crying foul, they selected that road, but no work has ever been done on it—not even the awarding of contracts.”

Mr. Gunu emphasized that President Mahama categorically considers certain roads as “economic corridor roads,” essential for driving the region’s economic growth and enhancing trade.

He asserted his commitment to promoting peace, development, and the strengthening of district assemblies to drive progress in the region.

Farmer files suit to demand GH₵120k unpaid lotto winnings https://www.adomonline.com/farmer-files-suit-to-demand-gh%e2%82%b5120k-unpaid-lotto-winnings/ Thu, 30 Jan 2025 11:48:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2498856

A Volta Region-based businessman and farmer, Ladi Kwaku Avorgah, has filed a lawsuit against Sadalco and Brothers Business Ventures, Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) Abor Branch, and its branch manager over an outstanding GH₵120,000 in unpaid lotto winnings and related claims.

The case, currently before the High Court of Justice in Denu, seeks to compel the defendants to settle debts allegedly owed to the plaintiff following a September 25, 2023, lotto draw.

The plaintiff, Mr. Avorgah, argues that he and other stakers participated in a District Weekly Lotto, selecting the winning numbers 20-19-44, and were entitled to a total payout of GH₵1,731,167.

However, despite repeated demands, the first defendant, Sadalco and Brothers Business Ventures, has only made partial payments, leaving a significant amount unpaid.

Allegations Against the Defendants

In the statement of claim, Mr. Avorgah said that due to mounting pressure from other winners, he borrowed GH₵80,000 to settle part of the winnings.

In response, the first defendant later issued a post-dated cheque for GH₵149,000, dated November 7, 2023, which was presented to the GCB Bank, Abor Branch, for payment.

However, the cheque was dishonored, allegedly due to insufficient funds in the first defendant’s account.

The plaintiff further claimed that the bank misled him into paying an express processing fee of GH₵150, promising that the cheque would be honored, only for it to be returned.

He also alleged that the bank manager fraudulently handed the cheque back to the first defendant rather than allowing him to pursue legal action for the dishonored payment.

Legal Demands

The plaintiff is requesting that the court compel the first defendant to pay the outstanding GH₵120,000 in full and order the refund of the GH₵150 paid to the bank for express processing.

Fraud Allegations

Mr. Avorgah further alleges that the defendants acted fraudulently, claiming that the first defendant knowingly issued a cheque despite lacking sufficient funds.

He also accused the bank and its manager of colluding with the first defendant by failing to honor the cheque or properly handle the transaction.

Additionally, Avorgah states that he sought intervention from traditional leaders, including Awadada Torgbui Esru of Tadzewu, but the first defendant failed to comply with any of the resolutions reached.

Court Proceedings

The case is set to be heard at the High Court of Justice, Denu, where the plaintiff hopes to obtain a favorable ruling to recover his funds.

If successful, the outcome could set a precedent for similar disputes in the region, particularly regarding financial accountability in gaming and banking transactions.

The defendants are yet to publicly respond to the lawsuit. The case has drawn attention from lotto industry stakeholders and financial institutions, as it raises concerns about payment integrity, customer trust, and the role of banks in handling disputed transactions.

Next Steps

Legal analysts believe the case will hinge on whether the court finds evidence of fraud and negligence on the part of the bank.

If the plaintiff’s claims are substantiated, the ruling could result in stricter regulations for financial institutions and gaming operators in Ghana.

During his vetting in Parliament on Thursday, Mr. Gunu highlighted the region’s rich array of tourist attractions and underscored the importance of making these sites more accessible and well-promoted.

He pledged to work alongside Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the MP for Ketu South and a member of the Tourism Ministry, as well as the Roads Minister, to strengthen the region’s tourism sector.

“The topography of the Volta Region is a tourist attraction in itself. It is my responsibility, as regional minister, to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that our tourist sites are accessible. Working with the Tourism Ministry and the Minister for Roads will be key to enhancing our tourism potential,” Mr. Gunu remarked.

Mr. Gunu acknowledged challenges such as poor road networks to many tourist sites, limited publicity, and low local interest in promoting lesser-known attractions.

Local reports indicate that nearly 1,000 visitors travel to the region on weekends for tourism, festivals, and funerals, but these numbers could grow significantly with better infrastructure and marketing.

To address these issues, Mr. Gunu pledged to prioritize the development of motorable roads to key tourist sites, increase awareness of hidden gems in the region, and encourage community involvement to maximize the sector’s economic potential.

Volta Region deserves more appointments for its hard work – North Dayi MP https://www.adomonline.com/volta-region-deserves-more-appointments-for-its-hard-work-north-dayi-mp/ Wed, 22 Jan 2025 06:08:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2495631

The North Dayi MP has made a strong case for increased ministerial appointments from the Volta Region, stating that their hard work and commitment to the party warrant greater representation in government.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, January 21, Jocelyn Tetteh said, “With the effort we have put in as a region, I think we deserve more than the three appointments we currently have. Every region has performed, but given our efforts, we deserve more.”

She highlighted the region’s political contributions, noting that Volta MPs worked tirelessly under challenging conditions to retain their seats. Despite limited resources, they remained steadfast and delivered results for the party.

“We have 18 seats, and we even managed to reclaim the one MPP seat we lost. Out of these, only two women emerged victorious. This should not be overlooked,” she emphasized.

The North Dayi legislator called on President John Mahama to consider the region’s loyalty and commitment when making further appointments.

“We are hopeful that His Excellency will turn his eyes towards the Volta Region, as we are his stronghold and have remained focused. We want to maintain that strong support.”

However, she acknowledged that the final decision rests with the President, stating, “It’s not for us to decide who he appoints or who he doesn’t.

“No, it’s not about forcing him to appoint a certain number of people from the Volta Region. It’s about his discretion and what he deems best.”

Ms. Tetteh concluded by reiterating that the region remains optimistic and confident that their efforts will be recognized, adding, “We believe that increasing the figures will not be bad at all.”

Coalition urges Mahama to extend ‘Operation Recover All Loots’ nationwide https://www.adomonline.com/coalition-urges-mahama-to-extend-operation-recover-all-loots-nationwide/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 12:27:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2494515 The Coalition of Volta Youth Against the Sale of Government Lands has urged President John Mahama to expand the scope of Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) to other regions of Ghana.

The group believes that this initiative will facilitate the recovery of state lands allegedly acquired at minimal cost by former government appointees and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nationwide.

According to the Coalition, significant portions of government lands in the Kabore enclave of Ho have been sold to individuals linked to the previous Akufo-Addo administration, with many already developing these properties.

Dr. Stanley Glatey, Convener of the Coalition, criticized the Lands Commission for what he described as reckless disposal of state lands.

“They sold the lands as if they were sharing Kelewele. Today, if the government needs land for development, there’s nothing available,” he lamented.

He also raised concerns about security risks associated with the sale of lands near the Regional Minister’s official residence and urged the ORAL team to investigate and hold Lands Commission officials accountable for their involvement in these transactions.

Dr. Glatey assured the Coalition’s cooperation in providing detailed information to the ORAL team to aid in the recovery of state assets sold under questionable circumstances.

“We are ready to support the ORAL team with all the information they need. These lands belong to all of us, and it’s crucial to safeguard them not just for today, but for future generations,” he emphasized.

Additionally, he called for a probe into the development of government lands in Godokpui, a suburb of Ho, where ten detached two-bedroom bungalows are under construction. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in such projects.

In a statement issued by the chairman, he acknowledged the apprehensions expressed by the region’s chiefs and party faithful regarding their share of national appointments.

He reaffirmed that the NDC leadership is committed to rewarding the loyalty and contributions of the Volta Region, which remains a stronghold for the party.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I want to make it clear that the Volta Region will be considered for appointments in the new NDC administration without fail,” Comrade Agbavitor stated emphatically.

Acknowledging Volta’s unwavering loyalty

The Volta Region has been pivotal to the NDC’s electoral success, delivering over 90% of the votes in the 2024 general elections.

The region achieved a clean sweep of all 18 parliamentary seats, including the strategic recapture of Hohoe. Additionally, the NPP’s influence in the region was reduced by 47%, significantly contributing to President Mahama’s emphatic victory.

“The President is fully aware of our unwavering loyalty and hard work. Our meaningful contributions shall be rewarded accordingly,” Agbavitor assured.

Call for restraint and unity

Despite the anticipation for appointments, Chairman Agbavitor appealed for patience and understanding among party members. He urged the rank and file of the NDC in the Volta Region to moderate their expectations while leadership works to ensure fair representation.

“While we look forward to other opportunities in appointments, I urge the rank and file of our party to exercise some restraint and be considerate in our expectations,” he advised.

Commitment to Volta’s progress

The Volta NDC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the interests of the region within the broader framework of national development. Chairman Agbavitor assured the people of continued advocacy to secure their rightful place in governance.

The opposition party secured all 18 seats in the region, demonstrating the electorate’s resounding trust in the parliamentary candidates presented and the party.

New Entrants

Strengthening campaign efforts in the Hohoe constituency allowed the NDC to reclaim the parliamentary seat from John Peter Amewu, who had won it in 2020 for the first time for the governing New Patriotic Party.

The campaign machinery helped the Parliamentary candidate-elect, Worlanyo Tsekpo, close a gap of a little over five thousand votes in 2020, as he secured 31,163 votes. In Saturday’s election, Mr Amewu lost by a margin of 16,000 votes, garnering 14,971 votes.

Edem Kofi Kpotosu made an entry to parliament on the ticket of the NDC when constituents of Ho Central picked him over the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Divine Bosson, who represented the NPP.

He received 62,522 votes against Mr Bosson’s 5,709 votes.

Edem Agbana defeated Enoch Amegbletor of the NPP in a landslide victory polling 41,002 votes to begin a new chapter of his life as a representative in the legislature.

Sebastian Deh recorded an emphatic victory with 18,326 votes to fulfil his dream of representing the Kpando Constituency in parliament.

The Afadzato South constituency parliamentary seat remained a property of the NDC when Frank Afriyie clinched victory in the elections with 20,618 votes.

Constituents of South Tongu authenticated the bid of Maxwell Lukutor to be their representative in parliament with 42,881 votes. He replaces Wisdom Kobina Woyome.

Incumbents

Dzifa Gomashie commanded 79,902 votes in the Ketu South Constituency to retain the seat for the NDC. She achieved the highest number of votes for the opposition party in the Volta Region due to her constituency’s population density.

Okudzeto Ablakwa polled 41,073 votes representing about 93% of the total valid votes in the North Tongu Constituency to maintain his parliamentary seat.

Kwame Agbodza, the Minority Chief Whip of the 8th parliament in the Fourth Republic, won the Adaklu seat for the NDC by a margin of approximately 12,000 votes.

2024 polls: Ketu North NPP demands enhanced security measures https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-ketu-north-npp-demands-enhanced-security-measures/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 14:47:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2479656 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ketu North Constituency of the Volta Region has urged the police to strengthen internal security during Saturday’s polls to prevent violence and uphold public confidence in law enforcement.

Addressing the media, Ketu North NPP Chairman, Mark Thompson Gbeti, highlighted concerns over escalating tensions, citing recent violent incidents, including the destruction of campaign materials and attacks on party members.

He referenced an incident on November 21, 2024, during which the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Enoch Amegbletor, and his team were attacked by alleged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) while engaging with the community in Tadzewu.

“The attackers pursued the team, leading to a confrontation during which Mr. Philipson Eli Dzokoto, a Regional Communications Team member and Dean of Coordinators, was severely assaulted. He is currently receiving treatment at IHDN Missionary Hospital at Dzadokpo. We extend our sympathies to him and others affected by this cowardly attack,” he said.

Mr. Gbeti expressed disappointment over the police’s failure to arrest the perpetrators, describing the delay as a threat to public trust in the democratic process.

He called on the police to expedite investigations and bring the culprits to justice.

“Failure to act within this period will compel us to escalate the matter to higher authorities and explore all lawful avenues to protect the safety and rights of our members and the constituency at large,” he warned.

Mr. Gbeti also urged the police to maintain their professional ethos, ensuring the safety of constituents and the peaceful conduct of the elections in the constituency, recognized as a hotspot in the Volta Region.

The Ketu North Constituency is expected to witness intense competition in the parliamentary elections between the NPP’s Enoch Amegbletor and the NDC’s Edem Agbana.

Volta is NDC’s heart – Fifi Kwetey https://www.adomonline.com/volta-is-ndcs-heart-fifi-kwetey/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 08:13:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477847 General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has described the Volta Region, specifically Ketu South, as the heart of the party, serving as its core base of support and loyalty.

He said the region and the constituency were where the NDC had its strongest roots, and the residents identified with the party’s values and ideologies, consistently providing strong support to the party, which was crucial to its electoral success.

Mr Kwetey who made these comments at Ketu South NDC’s final rally on Friday emphasised the region’s significance to the party’s history and development and appealed to the people of Ketu South and the region not to denounce their loyalty to the NDC.

“The last elections, Ketu South gave the NDC over 86,000 votes. This year, we want to cross 100,000 votes.

We won’t pretend that we have invested heavily in the region, providing infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities which have fostered this sense of love for the party. Late President Jerry John Rawlings, a native who founded the NDC might not have concentrated on the region because he wanted to develop Ghana.

Perhaps, he felt what he couldn’t do for Volta and Ketu South, his successors would do. It’s now our time. Let’s vote NDC to secure our future.”

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South described the current state of affairs in the country as worse than it was some decades ago which brought former President Rawlings onto the political scene with the June 4th uprising and said only the NDC could cause Ghana’s economy to rebound.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi, NDC National Communications officer, asked the electorate to take the December 7 general elections personally and ensure the victory of the NDC and its Flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.

“We don’t want to win for the sake of winning but for Ghana because Mr Mahama and the NDC are the only hope. Instead of the economy growing, the opposite is happening. Ghanaians are suffering… Times are hard.”

He called on Ketu South residents to be the real heroes delivering victory to the NDC by giving the party over 100,000 votes, telling them that only Mr Mahama and the NDC would protect them from tidal waves destruction, work on the Denu-Keta and Denu-Ho roads, construct astro turfs, a big market at Aflao, a port at Keta and bring tertiary institution to Ketu South.

Mr Mathias Alagbo, NDC Volta Regional Youth Organiser rallied the youth behind the NDC, saying the party dedicated a manifesto to the youth and that both students and apprentices alike stood the chance of benefiting immensely in the next NDC government.

Edudzi Tamakloe, Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, charged, “NDC is Ketu South, Ketu South is NDC. Ghanaians await your vote. You must vote the NDC to abolish E-levy, COVID levy and betting tax.”

Foga Nukunu, a tutor, said there was the need to vote NDC into power to review the Free SHS, saying the programme in its current form needed fine-tuning.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, MP for Ketu South, said the prices of goods in the market were telling and asked her constituents not to be deceived but to have confidence that the next Mahama administration would address their needs and so, must vote for the NDC.

Volta Region unites for peace ahead of 2024 elections https://www.adomonline.com/volta-region-unites-for-peace-ahead-of-2024-elections/ Sun, 01 Dec 2024 14:27:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477723 The streets of Ho came alive on Saturday as the Volta Regional Peace Council, in collaboration with political parties, government institutions, and civil society organizations, led a symbolic peace walk aimed at promoting harmony ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.

Scheduled for December 7, the upcoming elections are already drawing national attention, especially with special voting set to begin on December 2.

The peace walk, which drew participants from all walks of life, underscored a unified commitment to maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

Addressing the gathering, Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, stressed the importance of peaceful political engagement.

“I am appealing to all politicians; you don’t have to fight to serve this country. We only have to use our thumbprint,” Rev. Mawutor emphasized. He specifically urged the youth not to allow themselves to be manipulated into causing violence.

The Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas Hamidu, echoed these sentiments, directing a heartfelt message to Zongo communities. “As Muslims, we should promote peace,” he urged, calling on young people to reject any attempts to incite unrest.

Notably, Mr. Mawulorm Klutse, the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the Ho Central Constituency, was the only candidate present at the event. His participation highlighted the role of political leaders in fostering a peaceful electoral atmosphere.

“All I expect in this election is peace. I encourage every political party to accept the outcome of the election results and pray Ghana remains at peace,” Mr. Klutse stated, advocating for mutual respect among competing factions.

The walk concluded at the Ho Jubilee Park, where soldiers from the 66 Artillery Regiment led participants in static stretches—symbolizing unity and discipline.

The peace walk also served as a rallying call for community leaders and young people to take active roles in preventing electoral violence. With previous elections marred by isolated incidents, stakeholders are intensifying efforts to ensure a serene atmosphere in the Volta Region.

Rev. Mawutor’s direct appeal to the youth aimed to preempt any exploitation by political actors. “Everyone should conduct themselves in a manner that brings peace,” he urged, reinforcing that true leadership is about service, not conflict.

Similarly, Alhaji Hamidu’s focus on Zongo communities highlighted the importance of cultural and religious leaders in shaping community attitudes. “Peace is our duty,” he reminded the gathering, urging collective responsibility.

As Ghana approaches a pivotal moment in its democratic journey, the Volta Region’s proactive stance sets a compelling example.

By uniting political candidates, religious leaders, and civil society, the peace walk sends a clear message: Ghana’s democracy thrives when peace prevails.

Sharaf Mahama leads NDC’s Volta region victory – a beacon of hope https://www.adomonline.com/dr-fred-bedzrah-sharaf-mahama-leads-ndcs-volta-region-victory-a-beacon-of-hope/ Fri, 29 Nov 2024 11:07:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477291 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has found an invaluable gem in Sharaf Mahama, whose relentless dedication and hands-on approach to the 2024 election campaign is lighting a fire of hope across the Volta Region. As the son of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s presidential candidate, Sharaf is not only carrying the torch of his father’s legacy but also carving his path as a dynamic leader whose vision resonates with the grassroots.

In a groundbreaking collaboration between the Sharaf Mahama Healthy Heart Campaign, the NDC Care for Change Campaign, and the NDC National Youth Wing’s Traders and Artisans Network (TAN), Sharaf Mahama has mobilized a multi-faceted team of health professionals, youth volunteers, and community leaders commandeered by Dr Fred Bedzrah, to address critical health and social needs in the Volta Region. This strategic partnership underscores the NDC’s unwavering commitment to improving lives while galvanizing support at the grassroots level for the upcoming elections.

For two weeks, from November 18th to November 30th, 2024, the Volta Region has become a hive of activity as Sharaf Mahama’s medical and volunteer teams descended upon key constituencies, including Ho Central, Ho West, Agortime Ziope, Adaklu, Ketu North, Anlo, and Keta, among others. Community after community welcomed these teams with open arms, receiving free medical and surgical care, public health education, and voter engagement efforts that have left an indelible mark on the hearts of over 14,600 patients taken care of so far and many more voters reached out too.

The impact of this initiative is monumental. Through free health outreaches, families burdened by inaccessible healthcare found relief. Through grassroots engagements, they found renewed hope in the policies and promises of the NDC, as explained passionately by Sharaf and his team of health professionals. By bridging the gap between the NDC’s manifesto and the realities on the ground, Sharaf Mahama has ensured that the message of a better Ghana reaches even the remotest corners of the Volta Region.

Sharaf Mahama’s leadership has gone beyond words—it is action-driven, empathetic, and resolute. His willingness to traverse the length and breadth of the region, engaging with traders, artisans, and everyday citizens, has reaffirmed the NDC’s message that no community is too small and no individual too insignificant in the march toward victory. “We are here to not only ask for your vote but to show you the NDC’s commitment to your well-being,” Sharaf noted in a solidarity message to people of the Volta Region.

The Traders and Artisans Network (TAN), another critical pillar in this campaign, has worked tirelessly under the direction of Dr Fred Bedzrah, to rally support through voter education, door-to-door outreach, and town hall meetings. TAN’s efforts have drawn overwhelming participation, with market women, carpenters, seamstresses, and other artisans pledging their support for the NDC.

Sharaf Mahama’s efforts have been met with widespread admiration and gratitude. Community leaders in Anlo Afiadnyigbal commended his resolve, describing him as “a young man with a heart for the people.” Health workers who partnered on the campaign spoke of his humility and focus, with one volunteer remarking, “Sharaf Mahama is not just here for politics—he is here for the people. His commitment is inspiring.”

The Sharaf Mahama-led initiative has not only cemented his role as a critical force in the NDC campaign but has also set a new standard for grassroots engagement. With his combination of compassion, determination, and a laser focus on delivering tangible results, Sharaf Mahama has become a beacon of hope for the people and a formidable asset in the NDC’s drive to reclaim power in 2024.

As the Volta Region emerges from this transformative experience, one thing is clear: with Sharaf Mahama leading the charge at the grassroots level, the NDC’s vision for a better, fairer Ghana is not just a promise—it is a commitment in action.

Alan receives massive support in Volta Region ahead of Dec. 7 election https://www.adomonline.com/alan-receives-massive-support-in-volta-region-ahead-of-dec-7-election/ Thu, 28 Nov 2024 17:42:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477057 Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Afrafranto Alliance and presidential candidate for the Movement for Change, received an outpouring of love and support during his recent campaign tour of the Volta Region.

Town after town, crowds of enthusiastic residents lined the streets to welcome him, with many declaring him the “second father of the Volta Region” after the late President Jerry John Rawlings.

This title, the people explained, was their way of honouring Alan Kyerematen’s vision, humility, and unwavering commitment to the region’s development.

Alan Kyerematen was accompanied by his Policy Director, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah; his Director for Special Duties, Hopeson Adorye; Senior Alliance partners, Madam Tina Cudjoe and Richard Suma; and other senior members of his team.

Their presence underscored the significance of the tour and the importance the campaign attaches to the Volta Region in the upcoming elections.

The heartfelt reception moved Alan Kyerematen deeply, as he expressed gratitude for the affection shown him.

“The love I have received here is beyond what I imagined,” he said during an address to community members. “To be referred to as your second father is a profound honour, and I promise to repay this trust by delivering a transformational agenda that will uplift this region and the entire country.”

The residents, particularly women and youth in the region, praised Alan Kyerematen for his practical solutions under the Great Transformational Plan (GTP).

They were particularly drawn to his promise to make the Volta Region a Skills Development Hub and the establishment of a Traders’ Bank to support businesses in the country.

Many lauded his vision to invest heavily in farming, fishing, and eco-tourism, which they said aligns with the region’s natural resources.

“Our region has waited for a leader who truly understands our potential,” a community leader remarked. “Alan Kyerematen’s commitment to agriculture, fishing, and eco-tourism shows he sees us as part of Ghana’s solution, not just a political tool. This is why we call him our second father.”

Amid the jubilant scenes, Alan Kyerematen urged the people to reject claims that an independent candidate cannot win a presidential election in Ghana.

“Across the country, Ghanaians are ready for change. The love and support I’ve seen here is the same wherever I go, and it gives me confidence that we will win this election,” he stated.

“Ignore the propaganda of the NDC and NPP. They are afraid because they know the people are with me.”

The former Trade and Industry Minister highlighted examples of independent leaders around the world, including George Washington in America, Emmanuel Macron in France, and Patrice Talon in Benin, who have led their nations to success.

“This election is about leadership, not party colours. Together, we can rewrite Ghana’s story,” he declared, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

The overwhelming show of affection from the Volta Region solidified Alan Kyerematen’s belief in his campaign. “This is not just a political movement; it is a national call for transformation,” he said.

As he left the region, the chants of support and the declaration of his new title as the “second father” underscored the people’s hope for a new era under his leadership.

Election 2024: Volta Region takes delivery of ballot papers https://www.adomonline.com/election-2024-volta-region-takes-delivery-of-ballot-papers/ Wed, 27 Nov 2024 11:59:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2476407 The Volta Region has taken delivery of ballot papers for the upcoming general elections slated for December 7.

Two trucks loaded with the ballot papers arrived at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters at about 9:45 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Due to the late arrival, the political parties placed their seals on the locks of the containers and deferred inspection to Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

According to the Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Eric Dzakpasu, the consignment contains 186 sacks of presidential ballot papers and 70 sacks of parliamentary ballot papers.

Stakeholders and agents of political parties are currently inspecting the materials at the Volta Regional Police headquarters in Ho.

He said the sacks also contain special voting ballot papers that have been labeled for easy identification.

So far, only agents of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are present for the inspection exercise.

An agent for the Ho Central Independent Candidate, Mawulorm Klutse, is also present and participating in the exercise.

It would be recalled that the Electoral Commission was compelled to destroy all defective presidential and parliamentary ballot papers previously printed for the Volta and Ahafo Regions.

The destruction took place on Thursday, November 21, under the supervision of political parties, independent observers, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and the Police Service.

The move follows the EC’s announcement that incorrect serial numbers had been identified on the ballot papers for these regions, necessitating their reprinting.

2024 World Toilet Day Celebration: 13.4% of Volta Region population still practices open defecation – Regional directorate reports https://www.adomonline.com/2024-world-toilet-day-celebration-13-4-of-volta-region-population-still-practices-open-defecation-regional-directorate-reports/ Fri, 22 Nov 2024 16:53:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2474715 The Volta Regional Coordinating Directorate has revealed that 13.4% of the region’s population still engages in open defecation, based on a 2020 Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) report.

This concerning statistic was disclosed by Mr. Augustus Awity, the Regional Coordinating Director and Chairman of the Regional Interagency Coordinating Committee on Sanitation (RICCS), during this year’s World Toilet Day celebration at Agorhokpo, a farming community in the Agotime-Ziope District.

The event, themed “Toilet – A Place for Peace”, emphasized the importance of toilets in promoting dignity, equality, and human rights.

Mr. Awity noted that while 34.6% of households in the Volta Region have access to improved sanitation facilities, 51.9% still rely on shared or unimproved sanitation options.

Cholera Outbreak Underscores Need for Improved Sanitation

Mr. Awity highlighted the ongoing cholera outbreaks in the Greater Accra, Central, and Western Regions, which have resulted in 16 deaths and over 150 infections.

He described this as a sobering reminder of the consequences of inadequate sanitation.

“This outbreak is a wake-up call to prioritize the provision of safe and clean toilets for all,” he stated.

“A toilet is more than a physical structure; it symbolizes dignity, equality, and human rights. It is a place where individuals find peace, relief, and security.”

Progress and Challenges in Reducing Open Defecation

Despite the challenges, Mr. Awity commended the Volta Region for significant progress in reducing open defecation, as noted in reports from the GSS and World Bank.

However, he urged residents and stakeholders to double their efforts in achieving universal access to sanitation, a key target of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6b.

“As we observe World Toilet Day, let us renew our commitment to creating a world where every individual has access to safe, clean, and private toilets. This is not just a moral obligation but an economic and social necessity,” Mr. Awity said.

Call to Action

Madam Stella Kumedzro, the Regional Environmental Health Officer, led a call to action, urging participants to prioritize sanitation and hygiene in their daily lives. She encouraged individuals to:

  • Share commitments to sanitation with family and friends.
  • Volunteer to help build and maintain toilets in their communities.
  • Advocate for inclusive and accessible toilet facilities.

She also called on the Government of Ghana to provide resources for Environmental Health and Sanitation Units through Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs). Additionally, she emphasized the need for schools and institutions to have clean, resilient toilets to promote peace and stability.

Role of NGOs and Development Partners

Madam Kumedzro appealed to non-governmental organizations and development partners to continue supporting communities in maintaining clean and aesthetic environments.

The event concluded with a pledge from all present to champion toilet equality and work towards a future where everyone in the Volta Region has access to safe and dignified sanitation facilities.

NDC challenges NPP’s ambitious vote target in Volta Region https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-challenges-npps-ambitious-vote-target-in-volta-region/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 12:31:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467270 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has issued a stern response to recent statements by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Communications Director, Mr. Richard Ahiagba, who claimed that the NPP would secure 500,000 votes in the Volta Region in the upcoming December elections.

According to the NDC, this ambitious projection is not only far-fetched but also demonstrates the NPP’s lack of connection with the realities on the ground.

The NDC’s Volta Regional Communications Officer, Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, denounced Mr. Ahiagba’s projection as “absurd” and “frankly insulting” to the intelligence of Voltarians, arguing that the NPP has historically fallen far short of similar targets in the past.

In an official statement, Mr. Agbleze pointed to the NPP’s vote history in the Volta Region, highlighting their failure to make substantial electoral gains despite repeatedly setting high benchmarks.

“Since 2008, the NPP has set unrealistic targets in the Volta Region, only to underperform each time. Their figures have consistently wavered, with no meaningful improvement,” Agbleze stated. For instance, the NPP set a 30% target for the Volta Region in the 2016 presidential election but garnered only 10.81% of the vote. In 2020, despite claims that they were gaining ground, they achieved just 14.14%. According to the NDC, the NPP’s fluctuating vote percentages—15.38% in 2008, 12.9% in 2012, and a low of 10.18% in 2016—illustrate a persistent lack of traction in the Volta Region.

The NDC further critiqued the feasibility of the NPP’s current goal, given the Volta Region’s voter statistics. With approximately 1,023,147 registered voters in the region, achieving nearly 500,000 votes would demand an unprecedented level of trust and support that the NPP has historically been unable to attain.

“This target would require a level of support that the NPP has never earned and will never receive, particularly from a population that has been hit hard by economic hardships under their administration,” Mr. Agbleze argued, alluding to the current economic conditions, including inflation, high unemployment rates, and the depreciating value of the cedi.

Rather than setting what the NDC calls “fantasy” goals, Mr. Agbleze urged the NPP to take accountability for the economic difficulties that have affected the livelihoods of Ghanaians, particularly in the Volta Region.

The NDC argues that the region has faced enough economic challenges, and any ambitious claims by the NPP are a testament to the “disconnect between their rhetoric and reality.”

In his statement, Mr. Agbleze assured the NDC’s commitment to maintaining the Volta Region as a historic stronghold, emphasizing that the people of the region are “fully aware” of which party truly prioritizes their welfare. He called on the public to remain discerning, rejecting what he described as “empty promises” from the NPP.

This passionate response from the NDC underscores the intensity of the political rivalry as the December 7 elections draw closer, especially in regions traditionally dominated by the party.

The NDC remains confident in their solid support within the Volta Region and is determined to sustain that strength against what they see as exaggerated promises from their opponents.

2024 polls: We will protect our stronghold – Volta NDC https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-we-will-protect-our-stronghold-volta-ndc/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 11:49:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467145 The Volta Regional Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kafui Sorkpa Agbleze, has reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining its stronghold in the Volta Region, traditionally known as the NDC’s “World Bank.”

Recent voting patterns suggest that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gradually gaining influence.

At a press conference in Ho on Wednesday, October 30, NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagba expressed optimism, setting an ambitious target of 500,000 votes in the December elections.

He cited the NPP’s steady increase in regional support—from 10.81% of total votes in 2016 to 14.14% in 2020—as evidence of this progress.

However, Mr Agbleze has dismissed the NPP’s goal as unrealistic, pledging that the NDC will not concede its stronghold.

“We are unwavering in our commitment to protect the Volta Region’s loyalty to the NDC. The public should see through the NPP’s empty promises and reject the propaganda they continue to spread,” he stated.

Agbleze further urged the NPP to shift its focus toward national economic recovery rather than raising expectations in the Volta Region.

“The NPP’s projection of securing half the votes here is not only delusional but frankly disrespectful to Voltarians.

“Their history of setting unattainable goals speaks to a pattern of overpromising and underdelivering, which has steadily eroded their credibility nationwide,” he said.

Agbleze called on Voltarians to show their enduring support for the NDC, underscoring that the party remains the region’s and Ghana’s best hope for meaningful change.

With a voter base of 1,023,147 registered individuals in the Volta Region, the NDC believes it can continue its legacy of strong support in the upcoming election.

Elections 2024: NPP targets up to 500,000 votes in Volta Region https://www.adomonline.com/elections-2024-npp-targets-up-to-500000-votes-in-volta-region/ Thu, 31 Oct 2024 07:13:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466448 The Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, says the party is setting an ambitious target for the 2024 presidential election, to secure between 300,000 and 500,000 votes.

This projection represents a substantial increase in voter support compared to the party’s performance in 2020.

Addressing a press conference on the “abuse of the electoral loyalty of the Volta Region” on 30th October 2024 at the New Patriotic Party Regional Headquarters in Ho, Mr Ahiagbah emphasized the party’s commitment to expanding its appeal across the country.

“Our expectation is clear: the NPP is targeting between 300,000 and 500,000 votes in the 2024 presidential election,” he stated. “This is more than just a numerical target. It represents our conviction that the message we bring — focused on economic empowerment, infrastructure, and sustainable development — is resonating with Ghanaians.”

Break stranglehold

He noted that: “This will help break the NDC’s unproductive and abusive stranglehold on the Volta Region and turn it into a battleground where the NPP and the NDC compete for votes based on programs and policies that uplift the people”.

According to him, turning the Volta Region into a battleground is possible. “It is not going to be business as usual for the NDC. The usual deception, misrepresentation of inflaming sectional differences, and the invocation of former President Rawlings as a son of Volta to derive votes. This will no longer work for the NDC,” he added.

He indicated that: “I expect the NDC to ridicule this battleground idea, but it would be foolhardy. The change in voter behavior started with the 2020 general elections when the NPP won the Hohoe seat for the first time, improved its showing in Ketu North, and obtained 14.1 percent of the presidential votes”.

Electoral renaissance

He said the Volta Region was experiencing an electoral renaissance led by its middle class and youth, adding that “like the youth across the country, the youth of this region have embraced Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s fourth industrial-era programs and policies, which are designed to put the Ghanaian youth on the frontier of global competition for jobs, education, and business opportunities”.

Mr Ahiagbah further stated that “the evidence of the renaissance became manifest with the warm welcome accorded to Dr Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate, during his recent tour of the region. The NDC is confused. They can’t understand what is happening in the Volta Region, which is shocking.

“However, as a Voltarian, I am not surprised because I believe the Volta Region will someday become a competitive electoral market”.

He emphasized that the NPP’s proposition for the Volta Region was an electoral partnership to develop the region.

To this end, he appealed to Voltarians to support the NPP in winning the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections and implement its Bold Solutions for Jobs and Business.

“The outcome for the Volta Region in this proposition is accelerated regional development. The considerable investment of the Akufo-Bawumia Administration in the region is a herald of mammoth growth when Dr. Bawumia becomes President,” he added.

Asogli women call for Togbe Afiatsoa III to be destooled over allegations of misconduct https://www.adomonline.com/asogli-women-call-for-togbe-afiatsoa-iii-to-be-destooled-over-allegations-of-misconduct/ Tue, 29 Oct 2024 10:11:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465582 Women leadership of Asogli State in Ho in the Volta Region have called for Togbe Afiatsoa III to be destooled as Mankrado of the Ho-Bankoe Division.

They appealed to the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV to ensure the removal of the embattled chief because his actions were abominable, did not depict that of a leader, and identified as a potential threat to the peace of Ho.

Addressing the press at the premises of the Asogli Traditional Council, the Afetor Nyornufia (Queenmother) of Ho-Bankoe, Mama Bobi III said Togbe Afiatsoa III exhibited a lack of respect for authority, customs, and traditions when he invoked curses on the Paramount Queenmother of Asogli, Mamaga Akua Dei ll.

“It is common knowledge that a chief is strictly prohibited from invoking curses, especially against a superior, let alone an innocent one.”

“Such behaviour is grounds for immediate destoolment, as it constitutes gross insubordination, treachery, and a deliberate attempt to undermine the peace and unity of Ho-Bankoe.”

“Clearly, Togbe Afiatsoa III has been rejected by the gods of our land, as the adage goes: ‘He whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad’”, she said.

Mama Bobi explained the curses were reportedly rooted in Togbe Afiatsoa’s belief that Mamaga Akua Dei occupied his position as side chief of Togbe Afede.

She, however, explained that Mamaga Akua Dei sitting at the side of Togbe Afede during the 2024 Asogli Te Zã was part of measures instituted to clarify the rightful position of the embattled chief, following his clamour to be gazetted as the Overlord of Ho, while he identifies himself as the Dutor of Ho and Dufia of Ho-Bankoe.

“These measures, unfortunately, infuriated Togbe Afiatsoa III, prompting him to boycott some of the 2024 Te Zã activities, including the grand durbar, primarily because he would not be seated by your side during the event.

“In an effort to disrupt the proceedings, Togbe Afiatsoa III further attempted to prevent chiefs and queens from his clan from attending the durbar. However, in a commendable display of wisdom and loyalty, these chiefs and Queens defied his orders and participated in the durbar.”

“In a fit of anger, frustration, or both, Togbe Afiatsoa III resorted to invoking the gods of the land, specifically “Hosi and Atife,” and pronounced curses intended to cause harm to Mamaga Akua Dei II, your Queen and Paramount Queen of Asogli, accusing her of occupying a position he believes rightfully belongs to him”, she said.

Mama Bobi further indicated that elders from Togbe Afiatsoa’s clan confirmed the cursing incident and were requested to perform some rites to revoke the curses and advise him to render an unqualified public apology.

She said the embattled chief failed to apologise hence their resolve for him to be replaced to bring some sanity to the Ho-Bankoe Division and Asogli State.

“We respectfully demand the immediate destoolment of Togbe Afiatsoa III and the enstoolment of a more deserving and capable individual to assume this honorable position”, she stressed when she presented a petition to the Asogli Traditional Council.

The Secretary of the Asogli Traditional Council received the petition on behalf of the Togbe Afede and promised the women that it would get the attention it deserved.

MFWA holds Peace Dialogue for Youth in the Volta Region https://www.adomonline.com/mfwa-holds-peace-dialogue-for-youth-in-the-volta-region/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 19:25:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2463680 As part of efforts to ensure peaceful elections this year, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has recently organised programmes aimed at educating the public, especially the media, political actors, youth groups, and institutions.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, youth groups from various political parties in the Volta Region participated in a peace dialogue held by the MFWA in Ho.

The event focused on sensitising the youth about the upcoming December 7th general elections.

In an interview, Daniel Kwame Ampofo Adjei, the Institutional Development, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager at the MFWA, emphasised the importance of the dialogue.

He explained that, its purpose was to bring young people together to raise awareness about peaceful rhetoric and to educate them on how to identify fake news, particularly during the political campaign season.

He added that the youth are key stakeholders in Ghana’s electoral process.

“They are responsible for communicating their respective political parties’ intentions and for conveying the aspirations and interests of the people back to those parties,” he said, highlighting the importance of the peace dialogue.

Adjei also urged the participants to be mindful of their statements on radio, as their words are being closely monitored.

Dr. David Esinu Yao Normanyo, Volta Regional Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, echoed the call for peaceful elections. He advised young people aspiring to a political career to do so without engaging in activities that could incite violence.

Jones Amegashie Viglo, Executive Director of Youth Impact Parliament, a Ho-based private youth parliament, stressed that young people are often used as tools to incite violence, but if they resolve to be peaceful, the elections will certainly be peaceful.

Another participant, Rita Batse, Deputy Administrator for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Youth Wing in the Hohoe Constituency, said the workshop had been enlightening, and she promised to correct any past mistakes to help maintain peace in the country.

Representatives from various political parties who attended the event also pledged to prioritize peace in the upcoming elections.

Will Volta region maintain “NDC stronghold” tag in December polls? https://www.adomonline.com/will-volta-region-maintain-ndc-stronghold-tag-in-december-polls/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 09:41:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2463400 With just a month left until the polls, citizens are set to elect a new set of parliamentarians and the 9th democratic president of the Republic. Political parties have intensified their campaign activities across the country, and the Volta region is no exception.

Since April 2024, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has visited the region more than five times to promote his presidential ambitions.

Conversely, the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama, and his team have travelled extensively throughout the region, explaining why he seeks a return to the presidency.

Both parties, along with other political groups and independent parliamentary candidates, have been actively campaigning. At this point, who are the people of the Volta region leaning towards—the NDC, NPP, or others?

Historically, Voltarians have supported the NDC, earning the region the designation as the party’s “World Bank.” However, it appears that this unwavering support is gradually diminishing, as evidenced by the increasing influence of the NPP—an alarming trend for the NDC.

Reviewing past elections, the NPP has consistently seen an increase in votes from the region, particularly since the 2016 general elections. This trend continues to foster optimism within the NPP about making significant inroads and possibly breaking barriers in the region.

In the 2016 elections, the NPP garnered 60,802 votes in the region, representing 10.81%. In the 2020 elections, they gained an additional 3.3%, bringing their total to 101,084 votes, or 14.1%. According to party leaders in the region, this is a noteworthy achievement.

At the constituency level, the NPP has also seen an increase in presidential votes in both major elections. For example, in the Adaklu constituency, NPP votes rose from 972 in 2016 to 1,967 in 2020. In Akatsi South, the party’s votes increased from 2,235 in 2016 to 3,754 in 2020. In Agortime Ziope, votes went from 1,394 in 2016 to 2,766 in 2020. In Akatsi North, the increase was from 1,222 in 2016 to 2,784 in 2020, and in Akatsi South, votes rose from 3,260 in 2016 to 4,581 in 2020.

In the Anlo constituency, the NPP saw an increase from 2,393 votes in 2016 to 4,990 in 2020. They also made significant gains in Keta, a traditional stronghold for the NDC, where votes increased from 1,670 in 2016 to 4,603 in 2020. In Central Tongu, the party’s votes rose from 2,987 in 2016 to 3,951 in 2020, while in South Tongu, they went from 3,142 to 4,249.

In Ho Central, the heart of the region, the NPP’s votes increased from 5,998 in 2016 to 8,715 in 2020. Neighboring Ho West saw an increase from 3,256 to 5,468 votes in the same period. The NPP made a notable impact in Hohoe, where the Railway Minister, John Peter Amewu, helped boost votes from 6,869 in 2016 to an impressive 14,389 in 2020. This success allowed Amewu to become the first NPP MP elected from the Volta region.

In Ketu North, votes increased from 9,230 in 2016 to 14,330 in 2020, while in Ketu South, they rose from 7,590 to 10,949. The NPP also improved its standing in Kpando, with votes increasing from 2,631 in 2016 to 3,682 in 2020, and in North Dayi, where votes rose from 1,525 to 2,867. In North Tongu, the party saw a modest increase from 2,843 to 4,149, and in South Dayi, votes increased from 1,585 to 2,890.

Moreover, the NPP’s performance in Keta, Ketu North, Ketu South, and Hohoe has positioned them favourably.

In the parliamentary elections, NPP candidates in the region also showed improvement in 2020 compared to 2016, while the NDC recorded a drop in votes in many constituencies.

These statistics raise concerns about the status of the Volta region as the NDC’s “world bank.” As we approach the December elections, the question remains: what will the voting patterns in the Volta region look like? Previous results suggest that the NPP is gaining traction in what was once considered a stronghold for the NDC.

As we await the December results, it is essential for the NDC to strengthen its efforts in the region, while the NPP must intensify its push for more votes. It is crucial to ensure that this election is conducted peacefully. To facilitate this, several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have begun organizing events to educate the public.

At a recent training for journalists organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, the Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, urged journalists and the media to refrain from declaring election results prematurely and called for both individual and collective efforts to ensure a peaceful election.

2024 polls: I aim to make life easier for Ghanaians – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-i-aim-to-make-life-easier-for-ghanaians-bawumia/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 08:41:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2463357 The Vice President and Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has indicated that if he is elected President in the upcoming general elections, his vision is to make life easier for the citizenry.

According to him, he has engineered several policies and programmes aimed at making life essentials easily accessible to Ghanaians, just like in developed countries.

He said this while addressing residents of the Ho Municipality during his campaign tour of the Volta Region.

Dr. Bawumia said the government, under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, laid a solid foundation in digitising the country’s economy, which he identified as critical to developing Ghana in the 21st century.

He explained that one key policy that would transform the lives of Ghanaians and bring them to par with those in the developed countries is the Credit Score System.

He further stated that the introduction of the Ghana Card, Digital Property Address System, and Mobile Money Interoperability are key components to implementing the Credit Score System, which would allow Ghanaians to purchase products and access services on credit, and pay ”small, small, small.”

“For the last two years, we have been working on putting together the credit score system for Ghana. My thinking was that next year we will finish. But by the grace of God, I am happy to say we have completed the work for the credit system to start. It is possible.

“By the grace of God on the 7th of November I will launch Ghana’s credit scoring system”, he stressed.

Dr. Bawumia said his government aims to make Ghana the second country to have a very effective credit scoring system on the African continent.

“And it is going to be the second country I believe in Africa to have a very effective credit scoring system. And that is going to make Ghana a very different country”, he said.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated his vision of reducing the cost of electricity by harnessing the sun to produce solar energy to augment the country’s power production capacity.

He hinted that a factory would be set up in Ghana to produce the solar panels for the proposed project to create jobs and build the capacity of the country’s industrial sector.

Dr. Bawumia touted his proposed Women Trade Empowerment Fund as the best remedy to cushion women traders with soft loans to expand their businesses and enterprises.

“If you want to give them [female traders] loans and you ask them to go to the banks, they are going to be very intimidated because the banks are going to ask for a lot of documentation that they do not have. So, when it comes to informal women’s trading, we are rather setting up the Women Trade Empowerment Fund, the only requirement to obtain your loan will be your Ghana Card”, he said.

He also added that the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) module would be replicated in the agriculture sector where farm equipment would be stationed in every District for use by local farmers under the District Agric Mechanisation System.

Dr. Bawumia also spoke about a comprehensive irrigation project across the country to ameliorate crop production, explaining that the Volta River would be mechanized and channeled to irrigate farms in its jurisdiction.

He re-echoed his zeal to initiate the amendment of Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to give powers to the Chiefs to adjudicate on certain issues at the local level instead of sending them to the law courts.

He also promised to pay living allowances to Queen Mothers, Divisional Chiefs, and Paramount Chiefs, to enhance their livelihoods.

Dr. Bawumia therefore implored the Chiefs and people of the Ho Central Constituency to give him the mandate to deliver his policies and programs to raise Ghana to the status of developed countries.

NPP targets 300,000 votes in Volta Region https://www.adomonline.com/npp-targets-300000-votes-in-volta-region/ Mon, 21 Oct 2024 14:25:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2462572 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has targeted to win 300,000 votes for its Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming general elections on December 7th, 2024.

The governing party has devised several strategies towards achieving this feat which would represent about a 200% increase in the votes accrued for President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 general elections.

The NPP has, therefore, launched the Women’s Wing campaign which would play an integral part in helping it maintain power.

Addressing the Conference, the Volta Regional NPP Secretary, Pope Yao Yevoo reminded the participants of their role in helping Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to win the 2024 presidential elections.

He reiterated that the objective of winning 300,000 votes is on course adding that the Volta Regional NPP Chairman, Makafui Woanyah would is leading a team and would visit every constituency to embark on a rigorous campaign.

“The Regional Chairman would come to every constituency to campaign. We will do house-to-house, market-to-market, desk-to-desk, room-to-room, bed-to-bed and pillow-pillow. With that, our number is assured of winning”, he said.

A Member of the Volta Region NPP Campaign Committee, Barbara Quashigah entreated women to believe in the NPP as it has exhibited its commitment to uplifting women by appointing women to key positions and formulating policies and programmes to propel women’s empowerment.

“My fellow women, let me take this opportunity to now tell you the truth that must be our pride for sacrificing for the course of the NPP. There is no political party in our history that has respected and promoted women than the NPP”, she said.

The Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the NPP, Hajia Safia Mohammed implored the people of the Volta Region to ditch the National Democratic Party (NDC) for not fairly treating their son, the late Jerry John Rawlings who founded the opposition party.

She urged them to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and put him to the test as the President to lead Ghana for the next four years and implement his digitization agenda.

“I want to appeal to you the good people of the Volta Region to try His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia for just four years. That is my humble appeal to you. Give him a try and see whether you will see a loyal friend in him”, she said.

The Volta Regional Women’s Organiser, Hannah Ashade underscored the importance of maintaining the NPP in power to ensure the progress of the country.

She charged her fellow patriots to continue to be ambassadors of the NPP and Dr. Bawumia to help the governing party win the elections and break the 8-year cycle of power rotation in the fourth republic.

Bawumia commissions Phase 2 of Ghana’s first micro hydropower plant in Alavanyo https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-commissions-phase-2-of-ghanas-first-micro-hydropower-plant-in-alavanyo/ Mon, 21 Oct 2024 11:25:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2462498 The Vice President and Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has commissioned Phase 2 of Ghana’s first micro-hydropower plant.

Phase 2 saw the addition of a 75-kilowatt hydropower turbine to the existing 45-kilowatt turbine at the Tsatsadu Generating Station in Alavanyo Abenehease, within the Hohoe Constituency of the Volta Region.

The Tsatsadu Generating Station was designed, developed, and constructed by engineers of the Bui Power Authority (BPA).

An intake structure was installed in the spillway to divert part of the flow of the Tsatsadu River through a steel penstock to two hydropower turbines that produce 45 and 75 kilowatts, respectively. Power produced from the station feeds into the national grid.

Bawumia emphasized the critical need for Ghana to prioritize renewable energy as a means of reducing electricity costs, underscoring his vision of investing in solar energy if elected President.

He stated that, the successful completion of the Tsatsadu Generating Station affirms his commitment to increasing the country’s power generation capacity by adding 2,000 megawatts of solar power.

This, he said, is aimed at reducing electricity costs by 50% within the first four years of his government, while ensuring industries have sufficient power supply to expand and drive economic growth.

“Today, my confidence has been further enhanced that it is possible. I have every confidence that, working with the Bui Power Authority, within the first four years, we are going to go all out and introduce 2,000 megawatts of solar power into the national grid,” he stated.

Bawumia also commissioned the Tsatsadu Center of Excellence, which will serve as a learning center for tertiary students interested in practical training in hydro-generating plants.

The Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, said the idea of constructing the Center of Excellence was conceived by his predecessor, Fred Oware, and former Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu.

“Under their leadership, the 45 kW micro-hydro plant was constructed solely by Ghanaian engineers from the Bui Power Authority and funded entirely by internally generated funds of the BPA,” he added.

Mr. Dzamesi also announced that construction will soon begin on a 3MWp hydro plant at Wli Waterfalls to generate electricity for the Hohoe Constituency.

“BPA is determined to be the leader in renewable energy in this country. As I speak to you, BPA will add 105 MW of solar power to the energy mix by November this year, including 50 MW in Yendi, 50 MW in Bui, and a 5 MW floating solar project in Bui, the first of its kind in Africa.

“All these projects were undertaken under the Nana Addo/Bawumia government. So, when you talk about adding 2,000 MW of solar to the grid, I assure you it is possible, and under your presidency, it shall be done,” he said.

The Railways Minister and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu, encouraged voters in his constituency to appreciate the government’s efforts in developing the area and to vote for the NPP on December 7.

He also urged traditional authorities to support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid to allow him to fulfill his promise of “revoking the Chieftaincy Act to give Chiefs the authority to adjudicate disputes in their localities.”

NDC intensifies campaign in Ho Central Constituency https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-intensifies-campaign-in-ho-central-constituency/ Wed, 16 Oct 2024 15:43:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2461042 With barely two months days to go to the December 7th general elections, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified campaign activities in the Ho Central Constituency of the Volta Region.

Under the leadership of the Ho Central NDC Parliamentary candidate, Edem Kpotosu, activities are geared towards securing the parliamentary seat and garnering 100% of total valid votes in the constituency.

The Ho Central Constituency has been a traditional seat of the NDC since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.

The NDC has, therefore, put together a team of old and new party executives and government appointees to undertake campaign activities in the constituency.

Speaking at a community engagement in Shia, Mr Kpotosu outlined his apprenticeship to master programme, which encompasses skills training and a setup to help residents engage in economic activities to support their livelihoods.

He outlined an entrepreneurship training programme that would see interested constituents train under well-established and experienced entrepreneurs.

“The second policy is that when you identify what you want to trade in, we will entrust you under the guidance of an entrepreneur for 7 months. We will graduate you and set up a shop for you which would be furnished by your trainee.

“The shop will be restocked after you finish selling the goods and give the money to your trainees. This will be repeated eight times. The ninth stock becomes your startup capital, you are not required to pay your master after sales, it is for you. Viva Mahama, Viva Kpotosu!!”, he stressed.

The last policy he said focuses on agriculture where a large size of land area would be ploughed and farm inputs made available for interested parties to cultivate and sell the produce to investors at the farm gate.

Mr Kpotosu urged the electorates to fuel his vision of human capacity building by electing him as the next Member of Parliament and John Mahama as the next President.

A former Ho Central NDC Constituency Secretary, Stanley Glatey urged the electorates to gauge their living conditions and vote accordingly on December 7th.

He expressed optimism about the NDC leading the country to “the promised land” with its proposed policies and programmes.

A former Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Kotobisa said citizens are unable to afford three square meal a day due to hardships.

He said the next NDC government would implement policies that would create jobs and wealth for the citizens to cushion them and ensure they can feed their families.

“We thought Akufo-Addo was going to change the prospects of the country in 2016 because they mixed their messages with sugar and honey, but they ended up disappointing us”, he added.

Until his demise, he was as the Chairman of the Sokode Lokoe Women’s training branch of the NDC.

Mr. Kafaba who is survived by eight children and one grandchild also performed various vital roles at the branch, constituency, and regional levels of the NDC.

He was a farmer by profession.

“Muntari was more than just a leader; he was a voice for the voiceless, a champion for justice, and a tireless advocate for change. His passion for the NDC was evident in every campaign he undertook, every message he communicated, and every heart he touched. He understood the power of words and used them to inspire and mobilize, bringing people together for a common cause.

“Beyond his political work, Muntari was a friend to many-a compassionate listener and a source of encouragement. His genuine concern for the well-being of others left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He believed in the strength of community and worked diligently to ensure that everyone felt included and empowered”, stated the NDC in a tribute.

The NDC implored the rank and file of the party to work rigorously to secure victory in the 2024 general elections to honour the memory of the late Mr. Kafaba.

“As we celebrate his life, let us honour his memory by continuing his legacy of service, dedication, and unity. Let us carry forward the ideals he stood for and the love he shared. Comrade Muntari has longed for the return of the party to govern this nation, we want to assure everyone seated here that we will win the general elections come 7th of December 2024”, it stated.

His children eulogised him as a loving father with a big heart who has shaped them for the adversities of life.

“You were so much more than just our father. You were our guide, our protector, our rock. You instilled so many values in us – hard work, resilience, kindness, and love. And now, more than ever, we appreciate every lesson you taught us”, they said.

Ziavi traditional authorities described him as a man of integrity, foresight, and nation-building as he orchestrated and led the execution of various development projects.

2024 polls: North Tongu will give NDC the widest victory margin – Ablakwa https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-north-tongu-will-give-ndc-the-widest-victory-margin-ablakwa/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 10:46:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2447189 The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has indicated that his constituency would play a significant role in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning the 2024 general election.

He said the constituency would once again record the widest margin across the country, promising 94% in total votes for the NDC, representing an increase of 4% from 2020’s result.

He made this known when addressing sympathisers of the NDC at Battor in the Volta Region after filing his nomination to contest the parliamentary election.

“Remember that in 2020, North Tongu achieved the widest victory margin in the whole of Ghana. We are determined that in the 2024 elections, we shall set another record, we shall make history again”, he said.

Mr. Ablakwa said the party would begin campaigning immediately and ensure the message of the NDC reaches every nook and cranny of the constituency to achieve the desired results.

“You know when President Mahama came here we launched ‘Operation 94%’. We are going to work very hard, we are not going to be complacent, we are not going to say we’ve won already.

“From today till December 7th, we have to work hard, and campaign vigorously. In North Tongu NDC there is no room for complacency. We will campaign from door to door, market to market, office to office, church to church, mosque to mosque, hamlet to hamlet, village to village, community to community, farm to farm, shop to shop, corner to corner, everywhere”, he said.

He noted that every single vote is of importance to the opposition NDC to enable it to clinch victory in the elections and, hence would intensify education on the voting process to prevent spoilt ballots.

He added that, he aims to achieve a 100% voter turnout and hence would guard against voter apathy among electorates and remove any bottleneck that would prevent people from exercising their franchise in the North Tongu Constituency.

“We want all the votes for President Mahama, for Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and Member of Parliament, Togbe Wogbedzi, the Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa”, he stressed.

Sympathizers of the NDC defied the rains to exhibit their support for Mr. Ablakwa who is making a fourth bid to parliament.

Women leaders from across the constituency submitted the form on behalf of the incumbent MP.

Low vaccination rate sparks concerns in Volta Region as health officials urge mass immunization https://www.adomonline.com/low-vaccination-rate-sparks-concerns-in-volta-region-as-health-officials-urge-mass-immunization/ Sat, 07 Sep 2024 09:07:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2445430 The Volta Region is facing a critical public health challenge as low vaccination coverage has led to a troubling rise in vaccine-preventable diseases. Dr Senanu Dzokoto, Deputy Regional Director of Health in charge of Public Health, expressed deep concern over the current situation, noting that inadequate immunization efforts are contributing to the resurgence of diseases that could otherwise be prevented.

“We have recorded eight confirmed cases of measles this year, coupled with an increase in rubella cases, which underscores the urgency of improving our immunization efforts,” Dr. Dzokoto stated. The alarming statistics highlight the need for a coordinated response from all stakeholders, including parents, community leaders, and healthcare providers, to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.

Call to Action: Bridging the Immunization Gap

The Volta Regional Health Directorate has launched an urgent appeal to stakeholders to intensify their efforts in closing the immunization gaps. Dr. Dzokoto stressed the severe consequences of inadequate vaccination coverage, warning that these gaps can lead to outbreaks that threaten entire communities.

“We must not allow any child to be left behind. The consequences of these gaps in immunization can be severe, leading to outbreaks that put entire communities at risk,” he cautioned.

As part of efforts to address this growing public health issue, a national mass vaccination campaign is scheduled from October 2nd to 6th, 2024. The campaign will target all districts and municipalities within the Volta Region, aiming to protect vulnerable children and strengthen community immunity.

Dr. Dzokoto emphasized the importance of this upcoming campaign, urging stakeholders to prioritize getting as many children vaccinated as possible. “High vaccine uptake is essential for achieving herd immunity and controlling the spread of infectious diseases,” he remarked, underlining that immunization remains one of the most cost-effective public health interventions available.

The Broader Implications of Vaccination

Dr. Dzokoto highlighted the broader benefits of vaccination, describing it as an investment in health security, and human rights, and a crucial strategy for reducing childhood mortality and morbidity. “Vaccination is widely regarded as cost-effective, an investment in health security, human rights, and essential for public health intervention targeted at reducing childhood mortality and morbidity,” he added.

The health directorate is hopeful that the upcoming campaign will help close existing immunization gaps and protect more children from preventable diseases. Officials are working closely with community leaders to mobilize parents and guardians, aiming to ensure a high turnout during the campaign period.

The Way Forward

The Volta Regional Health Directorate’s call to action reflects a broader national effort to improve immunization coverage and safeguard public health. With the rise in measles and rubella cases serving as a wake-up call, health officials are determined to ensure that every child has access to life-saving vaccines.

As the October campaign approaches, the health directorate is committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to turn the tide on this public health challenge. The success of this effort will depend on the collective action of parents, healthcare providers, and community leaders to prioritize vaccination and protect the future health of the region’s children.
