In a Facebook post, he advised anyone who has a problem with a media house to either call them out, file a complaint at the National Media Commission (NMC) or sue them.

In another post, Gabby said a political party is obliged to call out any media house “loudly but decently” if it “attacks without giving that party a right to reply”.

Meanwhile, the 16 people arrested for barging into UTV’s studios to seek an apology from pundits for their “constant attack on government” have been granted bail.

NPP National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha has taken responsibility for the attack.

The leadership of the NPP has apologized to the management of UTV over the incident and pledged to cooperate with the police throughout the investigation.

“UTV thugs” are NPP members – Richard Ahiagbah https://www.adomonline.com/utv-thugs-are-npp-members-richard-ahiagbah/ Mon, 09 Oct 2023 15:53:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2303724 The National Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has confirmed that the people who invaded UTV studio are members of the governing party.

He, however, condemned the act, stating that it goes against everything the NPP stands for.

“The people who invaded UTV studios are party members and acted the way they did because of some conversations on the programme,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

A group of young men barged in during the station’s prime-time entertainment show, ‘United Showbiz’, temporarily disrupting the show and threatening to beat up the host and her guests on live television.

16 people have been arrested so far.

Mr. Ahiagbah has condemned their action and promised to assist the police to ensure law and order.

Attack on UTV: Expedite prosecution of 16 persons arrested – PRINPAG https://www.adomonline.com/attack-on-utv-expedite-prosecution-of-16-persons-arrested-prinpag/ Mon, 09 Oct 2023 07:35:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2303471 The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has urged the police to expedite action on the 16 persons arrested for invading the studio of Accra-based UTV and arraign them before a court of competent jurisdiction to serve as a deterrent to others.

This call comes in response to the attack on the host and guests of United Showbiz programme by some alleged NPP youth.

In a statement issued on Sunday, PRINPAG described the attack as unfortunate.

It encouraged journalists in Ghana not to be deterred by such incidents, but to remain committed to their work as the Fourth Estate of the realm, adhering to the ethics of their profession without fear or favour.

The Association stated that it “abhors these attacks on journalists and media houses in the country and we condemn the attack in no uncertain terms and without any reservation. We are concerned about the continued occurrence of such acts in a country that used to boast proudly of its rankings on global press freedom indexes.”

Furthermore, PRINPAG expressed concern that incidents like the one at UTV on Saturday night could undermine confidence and reverse progress made in achieving positive rankings in future press freedom indexes.

However, it found solace in the swift action by the police.

“It is however heart-warming to hear that, the police moved in swiftly to arrest 16 members of the thugs to avert a possible bloodbath” it stated.
