According to him, the re-election of Trump has defeated the claim of the New Patriotic Party that no one-term president can win elections in a democratic nation.

Abass believes the Americans have shown Ghanaians the way to vote the NDC into power.

“If you look at the UK and America who are the beacon of democracy, they voted for change. The incumbent lost in elections and the same thing is going to happen in Ghana’s 2024 elections. The Americans have shown Ghanaians the way to send the NPP to opposition because Ghanaians are fed up with the hardships,” he told Nhyira Fm.

Abass observed similarities between Ghanaian and American elections based on the economy.

He said the Americans voted against the sitting Vice President based on poor economic performance which is worse under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government and believes this year’s election will be on the grounds of economic performance.

“The American election is similar to that of Ghana. They voted based on the state of the economy and Ghanaians are going to do the same. The Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government has destroyed the economy with high cost of living, cedi depreciation, galamsey among others and Ghanaians will vote based on the poor performance of the NPP,” said the NDC communicator.

The New Patriotic Party has congratulated the Republican Party and also indicated its commonalities in terms of symbol and history.

According to Ghana’s governing party, anytime the Republicans win, the NPP wins.

But Abass Nurudeen has described the NPP as a confused party. He believes elections are not won based on symbols but on performance.

“The NPP should not jubilate over the Republican Party’s win because they share similar Symbols. They also share similar colors with the Democrats who lost. Symbols don’t matter in elections; it is about performance.

“The NPP is confused, they initially predicted a win for the Vice President of the US, Kamala Harris and likened that to Dr. Bawumia as a Vice President who will also win the elections in Ghana. Why are they claiming that the Republican win is a win for them? The Republican lost in 2020, but the NPP won so it is not a fact that the NPP is winning. It reflects more of a win for a former president than vice president,” said Abass.

Biden ‘not confident’ of peaceful transition if Trump loses https://www.adomonline.com/biden-not-confident-of-peaceful-transition-if-trump-loses/ Thu, 08 Aug 2024 07:47:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2430661 US President, Joe Biden has said he is not confident there will be a peaceful transition of power if Donald Trump loses the presidential election in November.

In his first interview since he dramatically dropped out of the race last month, Mr Biden told CBS News: “If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all.”

“[Trump] means what he says, we don’t take him seriously. He means it, all this stuff about ‘if we lose it will be a bloodbath’.”

Mr Trump’s comment that it would “be a bloodbath for the country” if he loses the election, made as he was talking about the auto industry in March, triggered a wave of criticism.

Democrats were quick to reiterate their campaign message that the former president poses a threat to democracy. The Biden campaign used the “bloodbath” comment in an ad – posted on its social media accounts – and a spokesman accused Mr Trump of “encouraging and excusing political violence”.

The Trump campaign, however, said the comment was specifically about the auto industry and had been deliberately taken out of context. It sent a fundraising email which said Trump’s political opponents and others had been “viciously” misquoting him.

“[They] fully understood that I was simply referring to imports allowed by Crooked Joe Biden, which are killing the automobile industry,” Trump wrote on social media at the time.

Mr Biden has previously expressed concern that his former rival would not accept the result of the election.

During the presidential debate on CNN in June – which triggered the crisis over Mr Biden’s candidacy that ultimately saw stand aside and endorse Kamala Harris – Trump was asked directly whether he would accept the 2024 election results.

“If it’s a fair and legal and good election, absolutely,” he responded, after initially avoiding the question.

Trump made repeated unfounded claims of election fraud in 2020 after he lost that election to Mr Biden.

His supporters stormed the Capitol building in January 2021 in an effort to stop the election result from being certified. Many in attendance that day repeated the former president’s claims that the vote had been rigged.

In the CBS interview clip released on Wednesday, which was posted on X, Mr Biden also appeared to suggest there were efforts to complicate the post-election certification processes, although it was unclear exactly what he was referring to.

“Look what they’re trying to do now, in the local election districts where people count the votes,” he said. “You can’t love your country only when you win.”

US election: Owusu Bempah defends prophecy [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/us-election-owusu-bempah-defends-prophecy-video/ Wed, 11 Nov 2020 15:23:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1879311 Leader and Founder of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah, has stated that his prediction on the ‘hanging’ United States (US) elections still stands.

Rev Bempah has been described by some Ghanaians as fake because the political trend in the US elections did not exactly follow his prophecy of incumbent Donald Trump retaining his seat.

But, addressing the tag in a latest post-preaching service, he reiterated the declarations he made were not out of his own intuition.

He said God enlightened him “in spirit and in truth”, through some heavenly revelations, where he saw the key of the White House snatched from President Trump for “turning away from God.”

He added it is, however, unclear who Abraham and Watchers ( unique angels who are sent to carry out duties on earth) have settled on to lead America.

That said, he has called on the God of Heaven and earth to visit any individual who wants to touch ‘His anointed’.

Trump says ‘this election is far from over’ https://www.adomonline.com/trump-says-this-election-is-far-from-over/ Sat, 07 Nov 2020 18:24:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1878077 President Donald Trump said on Saturday his campaign would begin challenging U.S. election results in court next week after media outlets called the race for Democrat Joe Biden, saying “this election is far from over.”

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed,” he said in a statement. “The simple fact is this election is far from over.”

Trump has repeatedly made unfounded claims of fraud in the election.

Meanwhile, President Trump called in his lawyers to shore up his dimming re-election prospects, but legal experts said the flurry of lawsuits had little chance of changing the outcome but might cast doubt on the process.

MORE:

As Trump’s paths to victory narrowed, his campaign on Thursday was ramping up legal challenges and said it was planning to file its latest case in Nevada.

On Wednesday, the campaign sued in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia and asked to join a pending case at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Experts said the litigation serves to drag out the vote count and postpone major media from declaring Biden the victor, which would have dire political implications for Trump.

“The current legal maneuvering is mainly a way for the Trump campaign to try to extend the ball game in the long-shot hope that some serious anomaly will emerge,” said Robert Yablon, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School. “As of now, we haven’t seen any indication of systematic irregularities in the vote count.”

Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a statement Wednesday the lawsuits were aimed at ensuring legal votes were counted.

“The lawsuits are meritless,” said Bob Bauer, who is part of Biden’s legal team. “They’re intended to give the Trump campaign the opportunity to argue the vote count should stop. It is not going to stop.”

US Election 2020: Joe Biden wins the presidency https://www.adomonline.com/us-election-2020-joe-biden-wins-the-presidency/ Sat, 07 Nov 2020 16:50:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1878050 Joe Biden has won the race to become the next US president, defeating Donald Trump following a cliff-hanger vote count after Tuesday’s election.

The BBC projects that Mr Biden has won the key battleground of Pennsylvania, propelling him over the 270 electoral college vote threshold required to clinch the White House.

The Trump campaign has indicated their candidate does not plan to concede.

The result makes Mr Trump the first one-term president since the 1990s.

The BBC’s projection of Mr Biden’s victory is based on the unofficial results from states that have already finished counting their votes, and the expected results from states like Wisconsin where the count is continuing.

The election has seen the highest turnout since 1900. Mr Biden has won more than 73 million votes so far, the most ever for a US presidential candidate.

Mr Trump has drawn almost 70 million, the second-highest tally in history.

ALSO READ:

President Trump had falsely declared himself the winner of the election when vote counting was unfinished.

He has since alleged irregularities in counting but has not presented any evidence of election fraud.

His campaign has filed a barrage of lawsuits in various states and earlier on Friday, as Mr Biden appeared on the cusp of victory, said: “This election is not over.”

Donald Trump
The Trump campaign has indicated the incumbent president does not plan to concede

The election was fought as coronavirus cases and deaths continued to rise across the United States, with President Trump arguing a Biden presidency would result in lockdowns and economic gloom.

Joe Biden accused the president of failing to impose sufficient measures to control the spread of Covid-19.

Joe Biden is now set to return to the White House, where he served for eight years as President Barack Obama’s deputy.

At the age of 78, he will be the oldest president in American history, a record previously held by the man he has now defeated, Donald Trump, who is 74.

Joe Biden’s projected victory after four days of painstaking vote-counting is the denouement of an extraordinary campaign, conducted during a devastating pandemic and widespread social unrest, and against a most unconventional of incumbents.

In his third try for the presidency, Mr Biden found a way to navigate the political obstacles and claim a win that, while perhaps narrow in the electoral college tally, is projected to surpass Mr Trump’s overall national total by at least four million votes.

With his projected victory, Joe Biden becomes the oldest man ever elected to the White House.

He brings with him the first woman vice-president, whose multi-ethnic heritage carries with it numerous other firsts.

Mr Biden can now begin the arduous task of planning the transition to his new administration.

He will have just under three months to assemble a cabinet, determine policy priorities and prepare to govern a nation facing numerous crises and sharply divided along partisan lines.

Joe Biden has been dreaming of the White House for most of his 50 years in the public arena.

With this prize of a lifetime, however, come the challenges of a lifetime.

US Election: French bulldog elected as mayor of Kentucky town https://www.adomonline.com/us-election-french-bulldog-elected-as-mayor-of-kentucky-town/ Fri, 06 Nov 2020 14:11:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1877631 A small town in Kentucky has elected a French bulldog to be mayor. Wilbur, a 6-month-old puppy, was elected as mayor in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky on Thursday.

Amy Noland, Wilbur’s owner, told NBC News that Wilbur’s campaign was based around ‘all of the negative media that’s out there surrounding America, and the election, and Covid-19. ‘I guess I wanted Wilbur to be something positive in the news,’ she said.

She mentioned that Wilbur is dealing with the stress of being the mayor quite well. ‘He’s done a lot of interviews locally,’ she said.

‘He’s had a lot of pets, a lot of belly scratches and a lot of ear rubs.’ Wilbur ran on a campaign of getting rid of all the negativity in the world (Photo: Facebook) Noland explained that the town ‘has never had an actual person or human as mayor,’ but the tradition came about in the late 1990s.

‘There was a man named Don Claire who thought it would be a great idea to elect some type of animal — not necessarily a canine — as mayor of town,’ she said. She called Wilbur ‘an anomaly’ because he is a purebred, but still considers him ‘so cute.’

Noland said she fosters kittens and cats, and the rest of the town is a thriving community of dog lovers. There have been five dog mayors of Rabbit Hash, which always coincides with the presidential election.

‘It’s not political at all,’ Noland said. French bulldogs have been the fourth most popular purebred dog breed in the country during the last three years.

Rev. Owusu Bempah reverses prediction on US elections https://www.adomonline.com/rev-owusu-bempah-reverses-prediction-on-us-elections/ Thu, 05 Nov 2020 17:02:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1877184 Leader and Founder of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah, has exposed his confusion on the spiritual decision for United States’ (US) president.

Months before the ongoing elections, Rev. Owusu Bempah declared President Donald Trump will retain his seat under the condition that he will not legalise homosexuality.

Having maintained his decision not to legalise what has been described as a human right issue, Rev. Owusu Bempah said God has made President Trump “president and physically and spiritually he’s still on that seat.”

However, the prediction seems to be far from reality as Joe Biden is leading President Trump comfortably in the polls which started yesterday, November 4.

Realizing the embarrassment that awaits him, the prophet granted a latest interview to declare Mr Biden the chosen one.

“Something has happened in the US elections and Abraham and his people have held a meeting. The outcome of that meeting did not go in Trump’s favour. It’s because Trump’s heart has turned away from God.

“So Abraham and his people have sent the decision from that meeting to the Watchers (Watchers are unique angels who are sent to carry out duties on earth). The Watchers have sent the decision to the Almighty God. A final meeting is being held over the decision as I speak to you,” he said on Okay FM.

He added that he saw the heavens open and the key to the Whitehouse was snatched from Mr Trump and returned to the Lord, who is yet to confirm Abraham’s decision.

This is the third time the prophet has predicted the future of the US.

Having said that, Rev. Owusu Bempah comforted himself that should his prophecy not come to pass, like Isaiah, it doesn’t make him a false prophet.

John Legend calls out Lil Wayne, other rappers who have supported Trump https://www.adomonline.com/john-legend-calls-out-lil-wayne-other-rappers-who-have-supported-trump/ Wed, 04 Nov 2020 17:32:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1876549 Performing at a Biden-Harris campaign event in Philadelphia on Monday (November 2), John Legend shared his support for the Democratic party nominee.

Before performing ‘Glory’ with rapper Common, Legend addressed the crowd and took a few jabs at fellow artistes who have publicly supported President Donald Trump.

“Some of your former favourite rappers have been taken in by these lies. I think they even founded a new supergroup, it’s called the Sunken Place,” Legend said, referencing Jordan Peele’s horror film Get Out.

Legend’s shade is reportedly aimed at rapper Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, and 50 Cent following the release of President Trump’s Black Economic Empowerment ‘Platinum Pla’” on October 3 where he secured feedback and support from the notable rappers.

“Just had a great meeting with Donald Trump,” Lil Wayne tweeted on Thursday (October 29).

“Besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done,” he posted.

Rapper and media mogul 50 Cent also said that he planned on packing his bags if Donald Trump loses the election. The G-Unit rapper also expressed his support for the President after seeing Joe Biden’s proposed tax plan.

“WHAT THE F**K! (VOTE For TRUMP) IM OUT,” the rapper wrote on Instagram.

While Ice Cube is maintaining that he hasn’t endorsed President Trump, Politico reports that he flew to Washington D.C. and had a private meeting with President Trump’s advisors, including Jared Kushner in September. Later appearing on Fox News in October, the rapper explained working with Trump and his platinum plan.

“We make up 13 percent of the country, and we’re only getting five percent of the wealth in the country,” he said.  “They listened, heard what I had to say, pumped up their plan and presented it to the people.”

The 51-year-old rapper was named ‘Power Player of the Week’ by Fox News.

Watch: How Russia used Ghanaians to manipulate US elections https://www.adomonline.com/watch-how-russia-used-ghanaians-to-manipulate-us-elections/ Fri, 13 Mar 2020 16:31:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1764426 An investigation by CNN has revealed how Russia allegedly employed Ghanaians, mostly about age 20 as trolls with social media accounts, targeted at manipulating elections in the United States.

ALSO READ:

The month-long investigation released by the international website revealed that 16 Ghanaians, mostly in their 20s were employed by one Seth Wiredu who is running a small non-profit group that called itself Eliminating Barriers for the Liberation of Africa (EBLA).

Disguising his identity by using the adopted name Amara, Seth claimed to be South African when in reality, he lives in Russia and speaks Russian.

These employees operated from their headquarters; a walled compound in a quiet residential district near the Ghanaian capital Accra.

They were issued mobile phones, worked around a table and communicated as a group through the encrypted Telegram app, which is rarely used in Ghana. Each employee was given a specific area to work on and post about.

They focused almost exclusively on racial issues in the United States (US), promoting black empowerment and often displaying anger towards white Americans. The goal, according to experts who follow Russian disinformation campaigns, is to inflame divisions among Americans and provoke social unrest.

The languages and images used in the posts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are sometimes graphic. One of the Ghanaian trolls — @africamustwake — linked to a story from a left-wing conspiracy website and commented on Facebook: ‘America’s descent into a fascist police state continues.’

CNN’s report of the investigations

The activity uncovered by CNN had striking similarities to the Russian troll campaign of 2016, which created hundreds of accounts designed to pass as American. @africamustwake, for example, which described itself as a ‘Platform For #BLM #Racism #PoliceBrutality,’ claimed to be in Florida.

One of the trolls agreed to talk to CNN, so long as her identity was disguised. She said she had no idea she would be working as a Russian troll. She said that employees were given topics to post about.

“So you get stories about LGBT, you get stories about police brutality, depends on what you are working,” she said.

The employee said they were told that the best time to tweet and post was late afternoon and at night in Ghana, times when a US audience would have been active. They were given US articles to read.

Facebook said that although the people behind the campaign had attempted to conceal their purpose and coordination, its investigation had found links to both EBLA and “individuals associated with past activity by the Russian Internet Research Agency.”

The Internet Research Agency (IRA) was responsible for much of the foreign trolling activity aimed at the 2016 and 2018 US election campaigns, according to the US government.

The IRA was funded by Russian oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin, who is so close to the Kremlin that he is nicknamed ‘Putin’s chef.’

A CNN request for comment from Prigozhin’s holding company, Concord Management, on the Ghana trolling operation went unanswered.
