GNFS swiftly responds to fire outbreak at Tudu

A fire erupted early Saturday morning at Tudu, affecting two shops on the fourth floor of a commercial building.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly responded, dispatching three fire tenders to the scene to control the blaze.

Divisional Officer I (DOI) Alex King Nartey of the GNFS Public Relations Department stated that the firefighters acted promptly to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.

“Our swift response ensured the entire building was saved from destruction,” he said, confirming that the fire has been fully contained.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no casualties have been reported.

An early morning fire outbreak has destroyed kiosks, offices and spare parts shop at Tudu in the Central Business District of Accra.

The fire, which started around 4:30 am, razed down the kiosks reported to be the home of some residents as well as animals on sale.

Inhabitants were said to be sleeping when the fire started, however, no casualties were recorded.

The blaze extended to some adjoining offices and spare part shops, but the timely intervention salvaged the situation.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived within the shortest possible time to quench the fire.

However, items and an undisclosed sum of money were lost in the fire.

This would be the fifth fire incident in just three days in 2023.

Consequently, the GNFS has admonished the general public to be extra careful after 624 fire cases were recorded in just December 2022.

The service believes the weather, coupled with negligence and lack of proper fire management are major causes of the recorded cases.

Fire has gutted portions of a five-storey building at Tudu in the Central Business District of Accra.

The affected portion is said to be the Yazz Hostel located on the last floor of the America House Building which houses some students of the Accra Technical University.

The outbreak, according to the Ghana National Fire Service, occurred in the early hours of Tuesday while occupants were asleep.

Nine rooms were completely burnt while the roof of the building caved in.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be known, the timely intervention of the fire service prevented it from spreading to the other four floors.

Five fire appliances from Accra City, Accra Regional (fire tender and Turn Table Ladder), Ministries and National Headquarters were dispatched to the scene to douse the fire.

This brings to five, the number of fire outbreaks recorded in Accra since Saturday dawn.
