The union, which represents non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service, public and technical universities, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, and the Ghana Library Authority, announced the suspension at a press briefing on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

General Secretary of TEWU, King James Azortibah, said the decision followed constructive engagements with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and employer institutions. He explained that both parties have resolved to work towards concluding negotiations and signing the relevant agreements. A follow-up meeting with FWSC has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

“All TEWU members in the affected institutions are expected to resume work by Thursday, October 2, 2025, while those who traveled outside their jurisdictions must return by Monday, October 6, 2025,” Mr. Azortibah stated.

The leadership stressed that the action is a suspension, not a complete call-off, and warned that the union would not hesitate to resume the strike if agreements are not honored.

TEWU also cautioned against victimization of its members for exercising their right to strike, assuring workers of the union’s full support in cases of unfair labour practices.

The union commended its members, management of educational institutions, and the media for their support during the nine-day industrial action, describing the strike as impactful and a testament to the power of collective action.

TEWU-TUC begins indefinite strike today  https://www.adomonline.com/tewu-tuc-begins-indefinite-strike-today/ Fri, 19 Sep 2025 08:57:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2580471 Barring any last-minute change, the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) will today, September 19, 2025, begin an indefinite strike.

The action is expected to affect members across Technical and Public Universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).

According to the union, the strike has become necessary following government’s failure to address long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff despite exhausting all laid-down procedures.

In a statement signed by General Secretary King James Azortibah, TEWU-TUC said it has exercised patience and restraint but warned that any attempt to intimidate members would amount to an unfair labour practice.

The union recalled that on September 8, it served official notice of the strike, citing persistent delays in finalising and signing Conditions of Service agreements. It noted that repeated engagements and follow-ups with management and relevant authorities had yielded no results, leaving members frustrated.
