Traders at Tema Community 1 Market are counting their losses after a fire ravaged shops, leaving eight completely destroyed.

The fire began early Thursday morning behind ABSA Bank. Firefighters from the Tema Regional Fire Service quickly responded to the scene.

Their efforts were supported by personnel from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Police Service, who isolated electricity and maintained security.

Despite heavy smoke hindering firefighting efforts, the blaze was eventually controlled using two fire pumps. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

While eight shops were lost, over 100 shops were salvaged. Authorities are conducting a thorough overhaul to prevent further spread and fully contain the fire.
