Maxmillian Foli, alias ‘Thug,’ pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy, robbery and was convicted on his own plea and sentenced to 21 years imprisonment, while Blessing Ohe, alias ‘Demon,’ also pleaded guilty to conspiracy and was jailed for 15 years.

The facts of the case, as presented by Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi to the court presided over by Jephthah Appau, were that the complainant, Emmanuel Poku, the taxi driver, resided at Bokankye near Asuoyeboa, and the accused persons were also residents of Atwima-Akyeremade, near Kwadaso.

He said on August 28, 2025, at about 16:00 hours, the convicts met at their usual base and planned to hire and rob a taxi driver with pairs of scissors.

At about 18:00 hours on the same day, Foli called Ohe to meet him at Sofoline to execute their plan at 9:00 pm, but at 10:30, he was not available.

Foli therefore targeted and hired the complainant at a fee of GH¢70 to take him from Sofoline to Akyeremade.

Upon entering the Akyeremade town, Foli saw Ohe by the roadside and instructed the complainant to stop and pick him up, but he sensed danger and drove to Kwanwoma.

Just before the Kwanwoma township, Foli pulled a pair of scissors, stabbed the complainant on his back, and instructed him to surrender his car and valuables.

The complainant, in pain, left the car to Foli, who drove it back to Sofoline direction after taking the unspecified daily sales, car tape, and a Samsung A20 mobile phone of the complainant, bolted and left the car behind.

A report was made to the Denchemmuoso police, and the car was towed to the police station.

The facts stated that Ohe was arrested that night, and a search of him revealed a pair of scissors. On September 1, 2025, Foli was also arrested from his hideout at Kwanwoma.

In their caution statements, they admitted the crime and, after further investigations, were charged and brought before the court.

Taxi driver jailed 12 years for luring teen with spiked drink before assault https://www.adomonline.com/taxi-driver-jailed-12-years-for-luring-teen-with-spiked-drink-before-assault/ Fri, 18 Jul 2025 15:41:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2557124 The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced a 39-year-old taxi driver to 12 years’ imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl in Accra.

The convict, Francis Ammisah, allegedly lured the minor with Coca-Cola. After the act, Ammisah gave the victim GH¢2 and threatened her not to tell anyone.

The convict pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement when he first appeared in court in 2023 but was found guilty by the court, presided over by Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit.

Facts of the case

According to the facts presented to the court by Chief Inspector (C/Insp) Christopher Wonder, the victim would typically spend weekends with the complainant at Lapaz.

On 28 October 2023, the victim woke up weak in the morning and was struggling to sit up. “The complainant questioned the victim about what was wrong with her, and the victim revealed that Ammisah had been regularly taking her to a location at Mataheko in his red car, where he would mix a white substance into a bottle of Coke and give it to her to drink before having sex with her,” the prosecutor told the court.

“The convict, after the act, would give her GH¢2.00 and threaten that she would die if she told anyone,” C/Insp Wonder added.

The prosecutor explained that a complaint was lodged with the Odorkor Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit, leading to the convict’s arrest. During interrogation, Ammisah denied having sexual intercourse with the victim.

A police medical form was issued for the victim to be examined, and a medical report was subsequently issued and duly endorsed by a doctor. Following investigations, the accused was charged with the offence and brought before the court.

Cab driver jailed 15 years over defilement https://www.adomonline.com/cab-driver-jailed-15-years-over-defilement/ Wed, 18 Jun 2025 10:11:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2545854 A taxi driver, who pretended to be a stream god and defiled a 15-year-old girl in a bush, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court in the Western Region.

Raphael Agyiri, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement.

Prosecuting, Chief Superintendent of Police Alex Odonkor told the court presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu that the complainant is related to the victim and both lived in Bogoso, while Agyiri is a resident at Kokoase, all in Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.

He said on June 2, 2022, at about 6:30 pm, Agyiri met the victim in a bush close to a stream at Adjeikrom, a suburb of Bogoso, when she was on an errand.

The prosecutor said Agyiri professed his love for the victim and adopted a strategy to instil fear in her so he could have sexual intercourse with the victim.

Chief Superintendent Odonkor said the convict then posed himself as the gods of the stream that flows around the area and warned her that if she failed to have sex with him, she will die in two weeks.

He said the victim, who became frightened as she had not seen Agyiri before, cried out for assistance, but no one came to her aid.

The court heard that the convict then dragged the victim to a nearby bush and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her, after which he escorted the victim to her house and later absconded.

Chief Superintendent Odonkor said when the victim got home, she started experiencing vaginal and lower abdominal pain, and she recounted every detail of what happened to the complainant and the grandmother.

On June 4, 2022, at about noon, the victim saw Agyiri around their house, quickly informed the complainant, and he was arrested and handed over to the police in Bogoso for investigation.

Prosecution said a medical form was issued to the complainant on behalf of the victim to seek treatment and report.

The report, which was returned to the police endorsed by the medical officer at the Wassa Akropong Government hospital, indicated that the victim had been defiled.

After the full trial, the court found Agyiri guilty of the offence and he was sentenced accordingly.

Additionally, the court ordered him to pay a compensation of GH¢10,000 to the victim.

How I helped galamseyers to bury a pregnant woman alive – Taxi driver confesses [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/how-i-helped-galamseyers-to-bury-a-pregnant-woman-alive-taxi-driver-confesses/ Wed, 25 Sep 2024 16:15:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2453315 A taxi driver has recounted his involvement in the gruesome of a pregnant woman by illegal miners known in local parlance as ‘galamseyers’.

He claimed he drove the illegal miners to a location where they buried the pregnant woman alive to help them get more gold.

Though the incident happened in 2022, the taxi driver said he is still being haunted by the incident.

He said three illegal miners in November 2022, hired his taxi from Koforidua to Osino, after making a stop in Sehwi to pick up a priest.

Before the priest joined them, the taxi driver claimed the miners had captured the pregnant woman, tied her up, and rubbed pepper all over her body.

They then dug a hole, placed her inside, and the fetish priest to perform some rituals. They then buried the helpless woman alive.

“They were armed and gave me instructions. The woman was begging for water, but they refused and mercilessly buried her alive,” the driver recounted on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Wednesday.

Despite his initial attempts to report the incident to the Police, he claimed the Police advised him to remain silent and leave the matter alone, leaving the taxi driver deeply traumatized by the event.

“After I dropped them, I went to report the incident to the Osino Police station. However, they told me to keep quiet about it and leave. The experience has haunted me so much that I panic every time I see a pregnant woman. I have moved to Accra because I am still scared of the place,” he stated.

Taxi driver jailed over murder of his 20-year-old UPSA lover  https://www.adomonline.com/taxi-driver-jailed-over-murder-of-his-20-year-old-upsa-lover/ Thu, 19 Sep 2024 14:13:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2451072 Paul Evename, a 35-year-old taxi driver, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his girlfriend, Jennifer Atieku, a 20-year-old UPSA student.

This was after the jury delivered a unanimous 7-0 verdict, finding him guilty of intentionally killing Jennifer after she threatened to end their relationship.

The convict who accepted the verdict, apologized to both families and acknowledged his wrongdoing.

However, he requested time to heal from a wound before sentencing.

“All I will say to the family of the victim (deceased) and my (own) family members is that I have wronged everybody and I have also disappointed them so I pray that they forgive me.

“And I have accepted the guilty verdict,” the Convict told the Court before his sentencing.

“I thank the Court and the Jury for the decision. I accept the guilty verdict but I pray to the honourable court that I am not fit myself. I have a wound on my body so I pray the court to give me some time to heal. I have a wound on my body and pray the court considers my sentencing.”

Sentencing

But, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, while expressing sympathy for the loss of two young lives, stated that the court had no discretion under the law but to impose life imprisonment.

“Today, (Wednesday, September 18, 2024) I am confronted with the situation which is very difficult to take a decision about two young people whom in principle their family and Ghana have lost.

“One is dead and the other is thought alive but his freedom has to be taken away from him till he dies in prison custody.

“Painful as the death of Jennifer, the young lady in question is and the need to do justice as the case demands, I wish it lies in my power to give a punishment to the convict other than for life.

“Unfortunately, I do not have the discretion linder the law to do anything other than what the law says and which is imprisonment for life. I hereby sentence the accused person to life imprisonment. I wish him the best,” the Judge stated.

The case began in 2015 when Evename then 26 years stabbed Jennifer 20 multiple times at her hostel after she decided to end their five-year relationship.

Prosecution

The prosecution, led by Principal State Attorney Seth Awere-Opanyinyena, said they has presented hardcore evidence, including testimony from five witnesses, to prove Evename’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

In his final conclusion, he pointed to the Biblical scriptures and directed the jurors to – Proverb 17:15 and Hebrew 9:27.

For Proverbs 17:15 (NIV) states: “Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent—the Lord detests them both.”

While Hebrews 9:27 (NIV) states: “Just as people are destined to die once and after that to face judgment.”

Self-Defence

In contrast, Defense Counsel Mumin Mashood argued that Evename acted in self-defense, citing the couple’s loving relationship and Jennifer’s decision to curtail it.

He submitted that, the relationship between his client and Jennifer Atieku (deceased) was “one of love not hate”

He said, prosecution was unable to prove the case of murder but act of self defence in the midst of danger.

Counsel told the jury that, his clues had to protect his own life and “this took a tragic end beyond his control.”

While responding with Bible quotes from John 8:7-11 (King James version), said things have happened but unfortunate that things have happened the way it happend.

But, concludes that, Prosecution’s case is not conclusive that the accused killed the girlfriend deliberately for which he should be convicted for murder.

Summing up

In her summing up, Justice Marfo directed the jury by recounting all the evidence and testimony of the parties, the law involved and its application.

The Court while directing the jury said their verdict must be based on their consideration of the evidence heard in the courtroom and not outside the courtroom.

The Court said per the amendment law, their verdict mail be 7-0 unanimous decision or 6-1 or 5-2 for his guilt to be determined.

The Court also reminded them that previously the offense of murder carried death penalty but now section 46 have been amended to life imprisonment.

Brief facts

Per the brief facts, the Complainant is the caretaker of Obama Hostel near Rawlings Circle/Madina Polyclinic, whilst the deceased Jennifer Atieku aged 20 was a level 300 Banking and Finance student of the University of Professional Studies – Accra and an occupant of the above mentioned hostel.

The facts stated that, the Accused Paul Evename aged 26 (now 35) is a taxi driver and a resident of Kotobabi a suburb of Accra.

The Prosecution states that the Accused and the late Jennifer Atieku were in a relationship for almost five years.

But, “there has been some misunderstanding between the two and as a result of that, deceased Jennifer Atieku decided to blacklist the phone number of the accused making it impossible for the accused to reach deceased on phone.”

“This action by the deceased aggravated situations so on 10/11/15 between the hours of 8:30p.m.- 9:00p.m. accused drove his taxi cab with registration No. GG.2108 – 15 to the university campus where the deceased was having lectures and waited for her at the back gate of the university.

“Later deceased closed from lectures and whilst walking home in the company of three male students, accused called her but she did not bother him,” the brief facts stated.

Disturbances

The Prosecution said, the three male students departed company with deceased Jennifer Atieku and accused went to her and asked why she had refused to pick his earlier calls and why he could not reach her on phone of late.

“Deceased Jennifer then remarked that, he has been disturbing her and his action disrupts her studies and for that matter, she feels the relationship should be curtailed so that she concentrates on her studies.

“This statement did not go down well with accused so he threatened to end her life within a period of three days.

“Deceased called her elder brother one Fred Atieku who was sponsoring her education and told him about the threats the accused had put to her,” the Court informed.

First arrest

It said, the brother then rushed to the university campus in a chartered taxi cab and after confirming what his sister (now deceased) had told him on phone, he picked her to Legon Police Station where they formally lodged a complaint with the police against the accused.

“In that process, accused traced them to the Legon Police Station in his taxi cab and they identified the accused to the Police as the person who threatened to end the life of deceased.

“Accused was subsequently arrested and detained. Accused was admitted to Police enquiry bail the following day 11/11/15 at about 12:00p.m.,” the Court was told.

Sharp knife

The Prosecution said, on November 12, 2015, at about 7:30a.m., “accused procured a new sharp kitchen knife and drove his taxi cab with the kitchen knife in it and went to call deceased after knocking at her door at the hostel.”

“When deceased noticed that it was the accused, she chuckled at him and said she was preparing for lectures.

“This infuriated accused and he quickly went back to his taxi cab and picked the kitchen knife and hid it in his trousers.

“Accused then went to deceased and told her one Hajia who has been mediating between them was in the taxi and wanted to talk to her,” the Prosecution stated.

“Deceased upon hearing the name of Hajia then came out of her hostel room only to be attacked with a knife by accused,” the brief facts stated.

Pool of blood

It stated that, Jennifer (Deceased) “ran around the kitchen and chased up by accused who later caught her up on the corridor of the hostel where he stabbed her on the right side of her throat, left side of her breast and on the head with the knife leading to her instant death.

“Eventhough deceased shouted for help, no one came to her aid and after the act, accused decided to end his own life and subsequently stabbed his abdomen twice with the same knife and fell unconscious.

“Occupants of the hostel who later rushed out and found both parties lying down in a pool of blood picked them to Pentecost Hospital, Madina where Jennifer was pronounced dead.

“Accused was admitted and operated upon making police to place guard on him until he was treated and discharged on 28/11/15,” the Court heard.

The taxi, traveling from Techiman to Kintampo, collided head-on with the trailer, instantly killing the driver, known as Ogyam, and his female passenger.

Their bodies were damaged beyond recognition.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a construction tipper truck failed to slow down behind the taxi, which had reduced speed to give way to the trailer due to the poor condition of the road at that stretch.

The tipper truck hit the back of the taxi, forcing it into the oncoming trailer.

It took the Fire Service, Police, and road safety officials over two hours to remove the bodies from the wreckage.

During the rescue operation, another trailer, which failed to stop, crashed into another vehicle, injuring some passengers.

An officer from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DO III Asah Manu, confirmed the incident in an interview with Adom News.

She recounted one of her most embarrassing encounter with a taxi driver.

According to her, she became the support system of her family at an early age while struggling to find her feet in her career.

As a result, she sometimes could barely afford to pay for transportation fares moving from one audition to another.

“And because trotro wasn’t ideal, I will hire a taxi with the hope of calling someone to ask for money to pay him when I get to my destination.

“There are times I will get down from the taxi just to make calls but won’t get the money to pay or even if I do, the money would have to cater for the house because it was that tough,” she narrated to Afia Amankwa Tamakloe on Adom TV M’ashyase3.

On one of such adventures, Miss Sarfo said she asked the taxi driver to come for the money at her home in Burma Camp where she stayed with her family at the time even though there was none to give.

“This taxi driver came early morning even before we woke up and was visibly angry because of the way he banged on the door and drew the attention of our neighbours. It was a very embarrassing moment for me but I had to endure,” she said.

Despite the difficult start of her career, Miss Sarfo said she is always grateful to God for helping her to break boundaries.

“Now these taxi drivers are my friends and I share with them what God has blessed me with from time to time,” she said.

Kofi Sakyi, also known as Isaac or Mosquito, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.

The court presided over by Mr Isaac Addo remanded Sakyi into Police custody to reappear on February 27, 2024.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, said the complainant, Fatima Zara Ali, is a businesswoman residing in Accra New Town.

Chief Inspector Lawer said Sakyi also resides in the same area as the complainant.

In September 2023, Sakyi approached the complainant who owns a Hyundai 110 taxi with registration number GS 5447-22 valued at GH₵75,000.

The prosecution said Sakyi told the complainant that he wanted to work because he was unemployed.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant took pity on Sakyi and gave him the keys to the vehicle so he could begin working.

The prosecution said the complainant assigned Sakyi the tasked of sending and collecting her child from school in Haatso.

On January 21, 2024, the complainant was expecting Sakyi to take her daughter to school, but he did not show up.

When the complainant contacted Sakyi, he told her that the vehicle had developed a mechanical fault, and he was fixing it.

The prosecution said that because Sakyi’s phone was turned off, the complainant found another way to collect her child from school.

The prosecutor said Sakyi never showed up, and the complainant had no idea where he or the vehicle were.

The complainant and her brothers searched for Sakyi without success, therefore a report was filed with the police on January 225, 2024.

The prosecution said the police obtained intelligence that Sakyi was hiding in Agona Kwanyako, Central Region.

On January 31, 2024, investigations were extended to Agona Kwanyako. However, it was discovered that the accused had a hint of the police and went to Takoradi.

On February 5, 2024, Sakyi was arrested at Agona Swedru based on intelligence.

Sakyi denied the offence in his caution statement, claiming he was attacked at Kwame Nkrumah Circle by two unknown individuals who requested him to take them to North Kaneshie. Sakyi led the Police to the scene but could not identify the exact location of the alleged incident.

US-based Ghanaian taxi driver beaten to death by passengers over fare https://www.adomonline.com/us-based-ghanaian-taxi-driver-beaten-to-death-by-passengers-over-fare/ Tue, 16 Aug 2022 12:20:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2150155 New Yorkers have rallied behind an immigrant taxi driver who died on Saturday in what police described as an attack by passengers who had refused to pay their fare.

Kutin Gyimah, a 52-year-old father of four originally from Ghana, was dropping off a group of five near Rockaway Beach in New York City around 6.20am when they attempted to rob him, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).

The former accountant tried to chase them down, only for one of them to knock him to the ground where he cracked his skull and lost consciousness, police said.

He was then found lying in the roadway near a playground with trauma to the back of his head, and was pronounced dead at St John’s Hospital. The NYPD is investigating his death as a homicide.

On Sunday, the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers announced a $15,000 reward for any information leading to the attackers’ arrest, while a GoFundMe page created for Gyimah’s family by his colleague Spyros Drakos had raised more than $50,000 as of Sunday afternoon.

“I need justice for my husband because he doesn’t deserve to die this way,” said Gyimah’s widow Abigail Barwuah at a press conference that morning, reportedly weeping as she spoke.

“He didn’t rest throughout the pandemic – he was working. He was a good, good man. He was my backbone.”

Ms Barwuah appeared alongside the couple’s two older children, aged seven and eight, who also cried, as well as more than a dozen friends, relatives, and other taxi drivers.

Gyimah’s best friend Samuel Ayebi described how he had picked Gyimah up from the airport when he first arrived in the US 18 years ago, before introducing him to the taxi business.

NYPD commissioner Keechant Sewell said: “Kutin Gyimah was the victim of a senseless attack in Queens near Beach 54th St. and Arverne Blvd. As his loved ones mourn, Kutin is in the thoughts of the NYPD detectives who are working hard to apprehend those responsible.”

A spokesperson for the city government said: ” This tragedy is not only devastating, but unacceptable…. we extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and coworkers during this painful time and we will work diligently to bring all people responsible to justice.”

According to The New York Post, security footage from a nearby shop shows Gyimah chasing after the group of three men and two women after they scrambled out of his car’s back seat.

The Post reported that Gyimah caught up to them and held one of them down, before being beaten by the other four. He stood up, then was punched by one of the men and fell backwards.

Rev Samuel Arhin, a priest at the Ghana United Methodist Church where Gyimah workshipped, called him “a loving and caring gentleman – hardworking”, telling CBS News: “We’ve really lost a dedicated father.”

On his GoFundMe page, Mr Drakos described how Gyimah had continued doggedly ferrying passengers during the pandemic, saying: “This to me is a hero, like the first responders. If a doctor, a nurse, someone, a family member needed to get somewhere, he was driving the cab, and he never stopped.”

Tension mounts in Sekondi after taxi driver mysteriously dies in police cells https://www.adomonline.com/tension-mounts-in-sekondi-after-taxi-driver-mysteriously-dies-in-police-cells/ Sun, 26 Dec 2021 19:42:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2062535 The Western Regional Police Command is investigating the circumstances which led to the death of a taxi driver in their custody on Saturday 25th December 2021 at the Sekondi Police Station.

Confirming the death of the 52-year-old taxi driver to Joy News, Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said the deceased is alleged to have committed suicide at the cell’s bathroom with his jeans trousers.

She further explained that the driver, whose name has been given as Joseph Entwi, was driving from Takoradi to Sekondi in his Toyota Corolla Vitz with registration number GW 8204-20 when he was arrested on Friday, 24th December 2021.

Giving further details, she said when the driver reached an intersection at Nkontompo, he knocked down one corporal Kelvin Makafui, a police officer who was on duty with his colleagues.

The officer, DSP Adiku explains, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital but because of the absence of a medical doctor he was transferred to the Naval base clinic in Sekondi.

The driver was subsequently detained at the Sekondi Police Station cell where he is alleged to have committed suicide.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of death.

Uncle of the deceased, Stephane Arthur, in a telephone interview with Joy News’ Ina-Thalia Quansah said he was informed of the arrest of his nephew on Saturday dawn by another nephew and preparation was underway to get him bailed.

But he later had a call from the same nephew who informed him of the arrest that, Joseph Entwi had died and his body has been deposited at the morgue without the family’s knowledge.

“We proceeded to the Effiankwanta morgue to confirm and indeed it was my nephew. We were surprised by the action of the police.

ALSO READ:

“Why didn’t the police inform us? I saw about 25 inmates at the cells when we visited the police station so didn’t any of them go to the bathroom except my nephew?”

Mr Arthur said the family is still finding it difficult to accept the alleged suicide claim by the police.

Meanwhile, the Regional Command has assured of investigating the issue later.

“The police command will not leave any stone unturned if the autopsy report proves otherwise. This is our assurance to the family,” DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku speaking on behalf of the Western Regional Police Command stressed.

Taxi driver who confessed to ritual killings on TV granted bail https://www.adomonline.com/taxi-driver-who-confessed-to-ritual-killings-on-tv-granted-bail/ Wed, 29 Sep 2021 16:53:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2021528 Felix Ansah, a taxi driver, who allegedly confessed to killing many people for ritual purposes, including burying a pregnant woman at Ashaiman, has been granted GH¢60,000.00 bail with two sureties by an Accra Circuit Court.

The court, presided over by Mrs Rosemond Baah Torsu, ordered suspect Ansah to report to the police on Tuesdays every fortnight.

He is expected to reappear on October 26.

The suspect indicated on Accra-based Onua TV that the burying of a pregnant woman was carried out allegedly for a former Member of Parliament for Ashaiman.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of the publication of false news before the court.

Police Chief Inspector Princess Tetteh Boafo, who held brief, told the court that the two weeks’ adjournment would enable them to continue with investigations by travelling across the country based on information received over the activities of the accused.

Defence Counsel, Theophilus Donkor, repeated his application for bail.

Mr Donkor said the court had the discretion to grant bail and prayed the court to exercise its discretion in his client’s favour.

Additionally, counsel appealed to the court to make the bail soft so that the accused would be able to execute same.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Sylvester Asare, the prosecutor, prayed the court to order the accused to be reporting to the police as part of the bail terms.

The prosecution, narrating the facts, told the court that sometime in September this year, the attention of the police was drawn to a statement made or published on the ‘Maakye show’ on Onua Television station by the accused person to the effect that he buried a pregnant woman alive at Ashaiman.

The Prosecutor said upon the receipt of the information, the Police launched investigations into the matter, which led to the arrest of the accused person.

RELATED:

It said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused person was a taxi driver and resided at Weija, Accra.

The Prosecution said it was also established during investigation that on September 2, this year, on the Onua TV morning show with the host, Captain Smart, the accused in a response to a question from the host, stated that he (accused) had killed many people in the past.

It said he stated that he had buried a pregnant woman alive at Ashaiman to perform rituals for a former Member of Parliament for Ashaiman.

The Prosecution said the Police were, however, yet to extend the investigation to where the pregnant woman was buried.

His reaction comes after a taxi driver, Felix Nsah, who is currently standing trial, claimed he buried a pregnant woman alive at Ashaiman as a sacrifice for Mr Agbesi.

But Mr Agbesi told Starr News the allegations are unfounded.

He noted “that it is very strange that he killed for me to win an election, that is ridiculous. It can never be true. I’ve never heard it, I’ve never dreamt of such a thing. I don’t even know the personality involved in this matter.

“How could that have been possible if he was doing something for us, to me, to the party or what? I can’t explain it. Simple and short it’s not true.”

The scene that shot Papa Nii of ‘Taxi Driver’ to fame [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/the-scene-that-shot-papa-nii-of-taxi-driver-to-fame-video/ Mon, 05 Jul 2021 16:51:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1982490 Being unfamiliar with the name Henry Hardon could be pardonable, but it would be a matter of amazement for movie lovers not to know Pattington Papa Nii Papafio.

Papa Nii became a household name, together with four others, for carrying the popular 1998 sitcom ‘Taxi Driver’ on their shoulders.

Taxi driver was a comedy TV series which portrayed the daily encounter and activities of taxi drivers and some hardcore passengers who together gave some interesting and good laughter during those days.

A particular scene will forever be embedded in the minds of fans; the right moment Papa Nii ‘rapped’ his friend TT for some “500 for something small to chop”.

As the flashback played on Adom TV’s Ahosepe Xtra show, a look of refreshment was evident on Papa Nii’s face as he exclaims that he remembers it like yesterday.

Explaining why that scene is pivotal to the success of the movie, Papa Nii told host Sister Sandy the reason is simple; his free flow of words and appropriate use of jargons excited the audience.

He learnt the jargons after he took the pain of joining some bus conductors to work, a move that was outside his movie script and was on the blind side of his producers.

After his first scene, he said the movie producers were impressed with his efforts and had to maintain his slot.

“My role was supposed to be a passing role but I executed it well and it became permanent. Initially, I was supposed to be an ordinary book man and I rose to station master and station MP who was handling all the affairs of the drivers,” he recounted.

Though the remuneration was not encouraging, Pattington Papa Nii Papafio said he has no regrets as, aside the fame, he also made some genuine friends.

“After we bought the stuff for oil and rice, I was lighting fire in a coal pot with a disposed polythene that was expected to facilitate the lighting of the fire. I SAW THEM SUFFER: A taxi driver’s story of healthcare officials’ neglect, pain, death of mother and children [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/i-saw-them-suffer-a-taxi-drivers-story-of-healthcare-officials-neglect-pain-death-of-mother-and-children-audio/ Fri, 17 Jan 2020 14:12:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1742098

A taxi driver who only gave his name as Kobby, has given a detailed account of how health officials slowed down the response time in saving the lives of four gas explosion victims who have all passed away.

Kobby was the driver who carried the now-deceased police officer and her three children who were severely burnt by from the explosion to the hospital in search of treatment.

But, as has been the case with many of Ghana’s hospitals, the victims were either met with not-too-concerned health officials or no beds to comfort them even as they struggled slowly to their deaths.

What Happened?

45-year-old Kate Abban with her three children had just returned from Church when the unfortunate incident happened.

Reports say, Kate, the deceased police woman was about to prepare her family’s meal for the day when the gas she was using for the process exploded to swallow her and her three children – 9, 11 and 22 years olds.

Kate had sent her 22-year-old son, a final year in the university to procure gas but on returning realised the gas was leaking so she called the same son to conduct some checks on the cylinder containing the gas.

That was the begging of the end for them as the gas exploded in the process, Kobby narrated to Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show Friday.

Kobby was standing by his taxi ready for the day’s business when he heard the loud explosion and as such, became the emergency driver for the day but what followed the trip with the fire victims to the hospital will live with him forever.

READ ALSO

According to Kobby, as traumatic as the carrying of the burnt victims was for him, the ordeal the victims went through subsequently transcended trauma for him.

Kobby’s first stop with the victims on the day was a nearby clinic, he narrated.

Road to the Hospital

Kobby met a group of nurses who were themselves struck by the degree of burns as they offered no help, not even a first aid.

They asked him to take the suffering mother and her children to another facility. In fact, they suggested Aakawe Hospital located at MacCarthy Hill Junction.

At Aakawe, the victims were admitted for treatment but only for a while as they would be referred to the 37 Military Hospital.

On their way to the 37 Military Hospital, however, Kate Abban requested to be taken to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital instead.

Listen to his narration on the challenges he faced at the hospital in audio below

The Korle Bu Story

At Korle Bu, a hospital that is supposed to be the citadel of health care, Kobby said the victims faced hours of neglect and pain.

Unconcerned-looking nurses either requested for the victims’ health insurance or deposits as preconditions for treatment.

A familiar song that has become characterised with health care in Ghana – ‘no beds’ was also sung at the expense of the suffering victims.

Not even assurances from Kobby and a man he called only as Alhaji that money wasn’t a problem and shouldn’t be an impediment to saving the lives of mother and children would make some of these health officials move into action.

“The nurses treated us as though they were nobodies,” Kobby said in a pained voice.

“I have heard and watched such news [of no beds and lack of care] on radio and TV but this time, I saw it unfold before my very eyes,” Kobby said.

As nurses requested for deposits-before-treatment, Kobby said an Alhaji who lived in the same compound with the family volunteered to foot the medical expenses.

“By the time the Alhaji got to the hospital, the suffering family were still sitting in chairs with no nurses or doctor to attend to them,’ he said.

At this time, it was already getting late, Kobby said.

The burnt victims, Kobby narrated, sat in chairs from the time they got to the hospital till the evening when the Alhaji had come to pay their medical bills.

It was only after payment that treatment commenced – four long painful hours that will make any suffering soul give up and so they did.

A week on and Kate Abban and her children were remembered today, Friday, 17th January, 2020 but for what it’s worth Kobby only remembers their pain and their last words.

“I see them every minute,” he told Chief Jerry Forson, host of Dwaso Nsem.

Kate Abban was a Police Inspector who had just been promoted to the rank of a Chief Inspector and was stationed at Techiman in the Bono Region.

He left behind a husband, an ex-service man whose needs the everyone’s prayers but as you pray for him, remember the one who needs your prayers most – Ghana our motherland.
