The victim whose name was only given as Asuarideen, 38, was stabbed in the head when he resisted the suspect from robbing his android phone on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

The Assembly Member for the area, Williams Acheampong narrated that in the process of the struggle, the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife.

He was rushed to the Santasi Apre Hospital for medical treatment but died on Saturday, August 6, 2022, while on admission.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting in investigations while the deceased has been buried in accordance with Islam customs.

The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

He was beaten to death after he was caught stealing phones from a store in the area.

The deceased, popularly known as “Junior” was on the residents’ wanted list and said to have allegedly been breaking into the homes of people to steal.

According to the residents, all efforts to locate his whereabouts have proved futile until he was caught red-handed stealing.

The suspect was subjected to severe beatings until he gave up the ghost.

His body has been deposited at the morgue.

The police have commenced investigations into the matter.

No arrest has been made so far.

The suspect on admission is said to be a member of a gang that attacked a 50-year-old gold dealer in his house at Adamso in the Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region.

He was hit when the police fired at them while they were running into a nearby bush as the police patrol at Fenaso, near Obuasi, responded to a call about the robbery attack on the gold dealer.

The acting Director-General of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, said when the police arrived at the scene, the suspected robbers had made away with GH¢15,000 and other unspecified amount.

He said the police shot at the suspected robbers while they were trying to take cover in the nearby bush.

About 30 minutes later, the police patrol team saw a Toyota Corolla with registration number GX 8399-13 and signalled the driver to stop, but he ignored the signal.

Hot chase

The police, ACP Ofori said, gave the vehicle a chase, and during the process, the driver abandoned the vehicle while the passengers also took to their heels.

The police later found an unconscious person with gunshot wounds in the said vehicle.

A search revealed that the occupants were the suspected robbers who attacked the gold dealer and it was suspected that one of the robbers might have received a gunshot from the police while they were hiding in the bush.

“He was quickly arrested and sent to the Obuasi Government Hospital for treatment under police guard,” he said.

Mr Ofori said the police were conducting an intensive search for the suspected robbers.

“We will not give them any breathing space. We will go all out to arrest them and bring them to book,” he said.

The vehicle has since been impounded.

Meanwhile, the police have also launched a manhunt for a robbery gang suspected to have attacked and killed a taxi driver at the Greda Estate in Accra.

This was after the District Magistrate Court at Bole issued a warrant for the arrest of the suspect identified as Sumaila Alhassan for robbery.

The police command announced this in a statement signed by the Bole District Commander, DSP David Azumah.

“Suspect Sumaila Alhassan aged about 25 years is a Butcher. He is dark in complexion and stout and is believed to be hiding in Bole town and its surrounding Communities or Tamale,” the statement said.

The command has also placed a GHS 2, 000 bounty on the head of Mr Alhassan as they appeal for public support.

“The Savannah Regional Police Command is seeking for the support of the general public to volunteer information on the whereabouts or the hiding place of Suspect Sumaila Alhassan for his arrest to assist in investigations,” the statement added.

The bus travelling from Adum to Aputuogya in Kumasi made a stopover at the High School Junction, where the suspected robber and two other accomplices joined the bus.

The bus conductor soon raised alarm of his phone being picked.

In an ensuing struggle, the suspect attempted jumping off the moving bus but his hand got trapped in the automated door.

The two other accomplices, however, managed to bolt.

He remained stuck to the excitement of the passengers until he was later handed over to the Feyiase Police.
