The summit, which attracted a large number of both international and local participants, recorded several cases of theft, prompting increased police surveillance and the deployment of an undercover operation at the venue.

According to the police, reports were received on Friday, December 19, 2025, from participants who complained about the theft of personal items, including mobile phones, iPads and credit cards.

In response, a covert security operation was immediately mounted to enhance protection and ensure the safety of attendees.

Briefing the media on Tuesday, December 23, the Accra Regional Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, said the operation led to the identification and arrest of Regan Kwesi Egui-Addo, also known as Morgan Addo. She disclosed that the suspect was already on the police wanted list for similar theft-related offences within the Accra Central Police Division.

She explained that the suspect was found at the conference posing as a legitimate participant and wearing an official summit identification tag. However, upon questioning, he was unable to give a satisfactory account of his presence at the event, leading to his arrest. He was subsequently detained at the Ministries Police Station, where investigations are ongoing.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect uses deceptive tactics to steal ATM cards. Police say he deliberately creates difficulties for victims at ATM points and then approaches them under the pretext of offering assistance, only to secretly swap their cards. Investigators have confirmed that the suspect withdrew unspecified sums of money from various ATM locations using cards obtained through this method.

Further investigations suggest that Egui-Addo targeted summit participants during breaks, taking advantage of moments when attendees were distracted to steal ATM cards and other valuables from bags and laptops.

Following his arrest, a search was conducted at the suspect’s residence at Ashaley-Botwe, where eight ATM cards belonging to different individuals were retrieved. The cards are currently being held as exhibits while police work with the relevant financial institutions to identify the rightful owners and support ongoing investigations.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng reassured the public of the police service’s commitment to protecting lives and property, especially during large public gatherings. She noted that adequate security would continue to be provided at public events, particularly as the festive season approaches.

She also urged members of the public to remain alert, keep personal belongings under close watch at all times and promptly report any suspicious behaviour to the police, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to preventing crime and ensuring public safety.

Chicago suspect who set woman on fire a ‘career criminal’, White House says https://www.adomonline.com/chicago-suspect-who-set-woman-on-fire-a-career-criminal-white-house-says/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 15:14:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604232 The Chicago man who allegedly doused a woman in gasoline and lit her on fire on 17 November was a “career criminal”, the White House has said.

Lawrence Reed who was arrested for the crime had 72 prior arrests that include eight felony convictions and seven misdemeanors, according to the White House.

The victim, 26-year-old Bethany MaGee, survived the attack but is “now fighting for her life with horrific burns”, the White house said in a statement.

In court on Monday, Mr Reed yelled three times in succession “I’m guilty”, after the judge warned he could receive a life sentence for charges that include committing a terrorist attack, according to reports from inside the courtroom.

The White House has sought to blame the incident on Democrats’ policies on crime, casting them as “soft”.

Both the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago are led by Democrats, and President Donald Trump is currently seeking to withhold federal funds from Illinois over its elimination of “cash bail”, where an arrested person posts a sum of money to be released from jail before trial.

The suspect “was walking free because of the radical, dangerous ‘no cash bail’ law proudly signed by Governor JB Pritzker and celebrated by Chicago’s defund-the-police Mayor Brandon Johnson”, the White House said in a statement it released on Tuesday.

Mayor Johnson said in a statement that the attack “was a tragic incident, and the Mayor’s prayers are with the victim and her family.”

Mr Reed, 50, has a history of mental illness and has been arrested 72 times since he turned 18, according to a Chicago affiliate of the BBC’s partner CBS News.

In August, he was charged with aggravated battery for allegedly hitting a social worker and after his arrest was released with electronic monitoring against prosecutors’ objections.

The attack against Ms MaGee happened while she was “minding her own business and reading her phone”, prosecutors said.

According to the criminal complaint, she was approached by Mr Reed arriving from the back of the train car who then doused her with gasoline before she ran.

As he chased her, the complaint said, Mr Reed ignited the rest of the liquid in the bottle and set Ms MaGee on fire.

Footage of the incident appeared to show Mr Reed watching Ms MaGee as she rolled on the floor engulfed in flames attempting to extinguish the fire.

Last week, Mayor Johnson said the attack “should have never happened”, characterising it as “an absolute failure of our criminal justice as well as our mental health institutions”.

He said the suspect clearly faced mental health challenges and presented a danger to himself and the community.

As a county commissioner, Johnson in 2020 introduced a nonbinding resolution to redirect funds from police and jails to other public services, but while running for mayor in 2023 he promised not to cut police spending.

22-year-old suspect arrested over Charlie Kirk’s death  https://www.adomonline.com/22-year-old-suspect-arrested-over-charlie-kirks-death/ Fri, 12 Sep 2025 18:56:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2577987 The suspect in the killing of Charlie Kirk is in custody, officials just announced in a news conference.

President Donald Trump earlier said he believed “with a high degree of certainty” that the shooting suspect was taken into custody.

Four sources familiar with the matter also told CNN that a person is being questioned in connection with the fatal shooting.

The suspect is 22 years old and from Washington, Utah, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation.

The suspect’s father identified his son from photos that had been made public, according to a source.

Suspected shooter Tyler Robinson’s roommate showed investigators messages on Discord, a group chat app, where Robinson talked about retrieving a rifle, according to Utah Gov. Spencer Cox.

The roommate opened Discord and “allowed investigators to take photos of the screen as each message was shown by Robinson’s mate,” Cox said today at a news briefing.

“The content of these included messages affiliated with the contact Tyler, stating a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush, messages related to visually watching the area where a rifle was left, and a message referring to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel,” Cox detailed.

“The messages also refer to engraving bullets and a mention of a scope, and the rifle being unique. Messages from the contact Tyler also mentioned that he had changed outfits,” Cox noted.

Investigators found the suspect wearing similar clothes to those seen on video, the governor says.

Authorities pored over surveillance footage from Utah Valley University and saw the suspect arriving on campus Wednesday morning in a Dodge Challenger, Gov. Spencer Cox said.

He was seen in a plain maroon T-shirt, light-colored shorts, a black hat with a white logo and light-colored shoes, Cox said.

When encountered by investigators this morning, the suspect was wearing clothes “consistent” with those seen on video, the governor said.

The suspect in the killing of Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, spoke negatively of the victim before the shooting, a family member told investigators, Utah’s governor said.

“Investigators interviewed a family member of Robinson who stated that Robinson had become more political in recent years,” Gov. Spencer Cox said Friday in a news conference.

The suspect specifically mentioned Kirk during a family dinner, Cox said.

“In the conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned that Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU. They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had,” the governor said.

Robinson at the dinner said, “Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate,” according to the relative’s account related by Cox.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said officials have Tyler Robinson, the suspect accused of the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk.

“We got him. On the evening of September 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident,” Cox said during a news conference on Friday.

The father of the Charlie Kirk shooting suspect, who was taken into custody, identified his son from photos that had been made public, according to a law enforcement official.

The father told his son to turn himself in. He also called a youth pastor to assist. The pastor called the US Marshals, who took the suspect into custody.

Update on 2Pac shooting: Keffe D arrested by police, charged with murder https://www.adomonline.com/update-on-2pac-shooting-keffe-d-arrested-by-police-charged-with-murder/ Mon, 02 Oct 2023 12:24:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2301018 Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon in the killing of 2Pac, prosecutors announced on Friday, per the Associated Press

A man has been apprehended in Las Vegas in connection with the 1996 fatal shooting of 2Pac.

The Associated Press reports that police arrested Duane “Keffe D” Davis on Friday morning. At this time, it’s unknown what exact charges he’s facing. In July, the home of Davis’s wife, Paula Clemons, was raided by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department over items “concerning the murder of Tupac Shakur.”

In the raid, police confiscated multiple computers, a cellphone, a hard drive, a Vibe magazine that featured 2Pac, several .40-caliber bullets, two “tubs containing photographs,” and a copy of Keefe D’s 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend. Henderson home.

Keefe D previously confessed that he was in the car from which the bullets that killed 2Pac came. The drive-by shooting took place one block from the Las Vegas Strip on Sept. 7, 1996.

Keefe has also done multilple interview with DJ Vlad where he talked about 2Pac’s murder openly.

Last year, Reggie Wright Jr., who worked as the head of security for Death Row Records, claimed there was increased activity from authorities surrounding 2Pac’s murder case. He also theorized that “Keefe D [has] been having the runs for the last two weeks… because yeah, they are knocking on doors and there’s some activity.”

Davis caught wind of the comments and told Wright to not mention his name.

“I’m tired of him. He bringing up my name,” Keefe continued. “He brought up my name from day one. I am tired of him…I don’t know what’s wrong with the dude. He obsessed with me. You heard of that song by Mariah Carey? Shit, leave me the f*ck alone bitch.”

Earlier in the summer, 2Pac’s biological father Billy Garland sat down with The Art of Dialogue and said he thinks the U.S. government was involved in his son’s death.

“[2Pac] was being tailed by the government the night of his assassination,” Garland said. “He was being tailed by the government [at] Quad Studio—that’s a known fact. … I just know it looked like a setup to me.”

Suspect tells court how policeman aided his escape from Manet cells https://www.adomonline.com/suspect-tells-court-how-policeman-aided-his-escape-from-manet-cells/ Wed, 10 May 2023 09:35:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2247638 Pius Anundoabil Ayoma, 23, a private security man who escaped from the Manet Police Custody shortly after appearing in court on March 1, this year, has told the Circuit Court in Accra how a policeman on duty aided his escape from Police cells.

Ayoma, on the night of March 2, escaped from lawful custody after appearing at the High Court and was remanded into Nsawam Prison Custody.

Appearing before the Circuit Court in Accra presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah after his re-arrest on May 4, he said a police officer provided him and one Godwin Klu, (2nd Accused), with a hacksaw blade in the cells.

This was after Ayoma, also said to be an Electrician, pleaded guilty with an explanation to counts 1 and 3 – Conspiracy to escape from lawful custody and Causing unlawful damage.

His explanation to the court on count 1 (Conspiracy to escape from lawful custody) was that the policeman gave the hacksaw blade to A2 (Godwin Klu) and convinced him (Ayoma) to join the plot to escape.

He added that the plan to escape was hatched by the policeman on duty and A2 (Godwin) but he joined because he was going through severe pains and sickness.

For count 3 – Causing unlawful damage, his explanation was that, “it was the severe pain and sickness which compelled me to cut the iron bar.”

He, however, pleaded not guilty to counts 2 and four – Conspiracy to commit a crime to wit Causing unlawful damage and Escaping from lawful custody.

Klu, who could not escape and is in detention is separately charged with Abetment of crime to wit escaping from lawful custody.

The court after listening to the 1st Accused, (Ayoma), entered a not-guilty plea for him on both counts 1 and Count 3.

Investigate police officer

The court after remanding the accused into the Nsawam Prison Custody to reappear on May 22, 2023, however, directed that the policeman in question be investigated.

“The police must investigate the policeman who abetted A2,(Godwin Klu), by providing him a hacksaw blade to cut the iron bar,” the court directed.

The said Policeman who allegedly abetted the 1st Accused person’s escape has been detained by the police pending investigation.

Latest facts

Chief Inspector Danku who held Superintendent Yirenkyi’s brief for the Prosecution told the court that, the Complainants are Policemen from Manet Police Station Accra.

He said, the 1st Accused, Pius Anundoabil Ayoma and 2nd Accused, Godwin Klu, were remand prisoners in the Manet Police Station Cells.

According to the Prosecution, the 1st Accused is facing charges of Robbery and Attempted Murder at the High Court while the 2nd Accused was also facing a charge of stealing.

He said in the course of their detention, the 1st Accused person was committed for trial at High Court ‘5’ and remanded into prison custody and the 2nd Accused person was convicted to four (4) years imprisonment.

Hatched plans

According to the Prosecution, while arrangements were underway to convey the two accused persons into Prisons custody, they hatched a plan not to go to the prison but to escape.

“As a result, the accused persons broke the burglar proof at the cell’s window, caused damage to the wire mesh and tore the mosquito net, creating a hole for their escape,@ the Prosecution told the court.

The Prosecution said on March 2, 2023, at about 2:00 am, the 2nd Accused attempted to go through the hole but his heavy build body did not allow him.

“The 1st Accused also attempted to escape but his trousers got hooked on the rough edge of the iron rod used to construct the burglar-proof and was hanging on the window, but was assisted by the 2nd Accused by releasing his trousers from the iron rod and gave the trousers to him to wear and escaped.

“The 2nd Accused could not escape and was escorted to Ankaful Prisons to commence his sentence, whilst a search party was formed to recapture the 1 lst Accused,” the Prosecution told the court.

The Prosecution said a combined team of personnel from the National Investigation Bureau and the Ghana Police Service picked intelligence that the suspect was hiding between Shukura and Afienya.

“On May 4, 2023, at about 8:00 pm, the First accused was smoked out of his hideout at Afienya and escorted to the Regional CID,” the Prosecution added.

“The accused persons admitted the offence in their caution statements and were charged with the offence and arraigned,” the Prosecution told the Court.

Alleged coup trial truncated after accused person was rushed to hospital https://www.adomonline.com/alleged-coup-trial-truncated-after-accused-person-was-rushed-to-hospital/ Tue, 21 Jun 2022 09:11:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2128742 The Hearing of the case in which some 10 persons are standing trial for their alleged involvement in an attempted coup was truncated after Warrant Officer Class Two (WOII) Esther Saan, the sixth accused person fell ill and started throwing up in court during proceedings.

Lawyers of Yohanne Zikpi, the fourth Accused person (A4) led by Lawyer Anthony Lartey was subjecting Chief Inspector Michael Nkrumah, the 14th and last Prosecution Witness to further cross-examination when sitting was interrupted.

Chief Inspector Nkrumah, is the investigator in the case and is facing scrutiny from the defence lawyers.

Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, the Chief Executive Officer of Citadel Hospital, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dr Benjamin Agordzo and eight others have all been charged.

While Dr Mac-Palm and seven others including WOII Esther Saan have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and high treason, ACP Dr Agordzo and Col. Kojo Gameli have also denied the charge of abetment.

They have been admitted to bail and are standing trial.

In court on Monday, further cross-examination was interrupted because the Sixth Accused person started throwing up and was taken to the Court Clinic.

The Court Warrant officer who took her to the clinic came back to inform the court that, WOII Esther Saan was throwing up because she took medicine on an empty stomach.

Consequently, the three-member panel of the High Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe adjourned proceedings to June 22.

According to EIB Network’s Court Correspondent Murtala Inusah, Mr Lartey is expected to conclude his cross-examination in 40 minutes at the next sitting as per the case management completion plan agreed on with the court.

The prosecution would be required to close its case when Mr Lartey ends his cross-examination of the witness.

Cross-examination

While subjecting Chief Inspector Nkrumah to cross-examination, counsel suggested to him that he requested A4 (Yohanne Zikpi) to rewrite exhibit AQ1 (investigations Cautioned statement dated 21/10/19) for the sole purpose of incriminating A4 (Zikpi) and A1 (Dr Mac-Palm) and nothing else.

But the investigator said that was not true.

The Investigator told the court that he obtained the exhibits AQ (Cautioned Statements) and AQ1 immediately after the fourth Accused (A4) immediately after interrogation.

When it was put to him that, he was not physically present throughout the period when A4 was interrogated, the Investigator said, he was there.

It was the case of counsel that, the interrogation of A4 took place behind closed doors at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) premises.

But the witness debunked that assertion, saying “It took place in our usual interrogation room.”

Covering faces of suspects will complicate investigation – Security analyst https://www.adomonline.com/covering-faces-of-suspects-will-complicate-investigation-security-analyst/ Mon, 06 Dec 2021 18:36:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2054719 Security analyst, Adib Saani, has reacted to the decision by the Ghana Police Service to protect the faces of suspects.

Mr Saani remarked that most of the information needed by the Police during investigation is mostly from the general population, and covering the faces of suspects will complicate the investigation.

He again revealed that before a culprit will intend to commit a crime, the person rationalises whether he would be caught or not. This, he believes, will pose more threat to the security system in the country.

According to Mr Saani, people will continue to commit crime in the country believing their faces would be covered and their identities hidden from the masses.

“The first thing taken into consideration is the interest of the state whilst making sure that the sanctity of the state is maintained,” he said in an interview on Adom News.

He reminded that there is no morality when it comes to ensuring the security of the state as it has been revealed by legal practitioners that most of the cases brought before the court are based on circumstantial evidence.

“You were there when the crime was perpetrated or you were caught in the act; then you are guilty of the offence,’’ he explained why some identities should be made public.

In response to the issue of privacy, Mr Saani asserted that when the faces of the suspects are published after court proceedings, the Police should use the same procedure by issuing a statement of the vindication of the suspects.

Mr Saani concluded that the country will be destroyed if judgment from court is awaited before the publication of suspects.

The Ghana Police Service on 6th December resolved to no longer show or display faces of suspects until final judgment.

In a statement, the police service said the decision is to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism in all policing endeavours.

Richard Appiah, 28, is reported to have told investigators that he started killing dogs before switching to the killing of human beings.

The source said he told his interrogators that something urged him to kill a black dog, which he did.

Mr Appiah told the police he only ate the head of the dog after killing it.

According to the source, “there is evidence to show that he really killed a black dog first before he turned to the people he killed.”

“That ‘something’ he is claiming influenced him to commit the heinous crimes, we do not know. The police do not dwell on spirits to do an investigation.”

The 28-year-old, according to the source, one week after killing the dog, “told the interrogators that the so-called ‘something’ urged him again to kill human beings and that was exactly what he did.”

Some residents of Abesim near Sunyani in the Bono Region, a town rocked by the gruesome murder of two children, say they suspect is a serial killer.

Pieces of flesh suspected to be human parts were also found stocked in a fridge in his house in August this year.

In an interaction with Luv FM, the mother of Stephen Sarpong, one of the victims, said she believes her son’s death may lead to exposing the suspect’s hidden serial crimes.

According to a DailyGuide report, there appeared to be some kind of stalemate between the police and the families of the victims over the burial of the deceased.

Louis Agyeman was buried last weekend but the family of George Sarpong initially did not want to take the body in protest for the slow pace of investigations into the matter.

However, the newspaper said it is reliably informed that the family has now decided to collect the body from the police and bury him over the coming weekend.

“There is evidence to show that Richard Appiah had psychological problem, saying some time ago he visited the hospital for psychiatry examination,” the source said, adding “there was evidence that he was taken to the hospital. If you like, you can check the hospital here in Sunyani to verify.”

According to the source, the police have requested for psychiatric evaluation for the suspect, and it was being done at the Psychiatry Hospital in Accra, as part of the investigation.

No Collaborators

The source refuted rumours going around in Sunyani that the suspect mentioned his collaborators during investigations as including politicians, owners of hotels and chop bar operators, both in Sunyani and Berekum.

“It is a lie. You see when the news broke it was even mentioned that Richard owed fleet of cars and mansions.

“Look, the storey building opposite the crime scene is for somebody who is domiciled abroad and not even in the country. Richard Appiah does not even owe a motorbike let alone cars,” the source noted.

No Cover-Up

The source further refuted allegations that because the police administration wanted to conceal evidence, they transferred the suspect to Accra.

“The police administration has procedures in dealing with crime. The IGP as the head decides to do whatever he thinks is best with investigation in any part of the country. The transfer was purely an administrative decision aimed at ensuring investigations are done expeditiously.

“The IGP or the regional commanders can decide where investigations into a case can take place and that is not to hide anything from the public,” the source pointed out.

Body Parts

According to the source, the forensic investigations being carried out by pathologists indicated that all parts of the disfigured bodies were intact except their genitals which were missing.

The suspect, the source said, accepted that he put the genitals into a water closet and flushed everything.

“That was why the police had to draw water from the septic tanks at the crime scene in order to check for the information he gave out during interrogation.”

Victims Burial

There appeared to be some kind of stalemate between the police and the families of the victims over the burial of the deceased.

Louis Agyeman was buried last weekend but the family of George Sarpong initially did not want to take the body in protest for the slow pace of investigations into the matter.

However, Daily Guide understands that the family has now decided to collect the body from the police and bury him over the coming weekend.

Court Process

Back in Accra, the case of Appiah was adjourned to October 25.

The case had been rescheduled for October 5, but had to be adjourned because the magistrate hearing the matter had taken her leave.

The police at the last court sitting had indicated to the court that they were awaiting the results of an autopsy conducted on the mortal remains of the two children found in the room of the accused person.

Chief Inspector Lawrence Anane told the court that once they received the autopsy report, they will conclude their investigations and forward a duplicate docket to Office of the Attorney General for advice.

Gruesome Murder

Richard Appiah, believed to be an architect or surveyor and a footballer, was said to be a friend to the victims.

He was said to have initially denied knowledge of the whereabouts of Louis Agyemang, the boy who went missing, and it was a man who lives in the neighbourhood who insisted that the suspect knew the whereabouts of Louis because he had seen the suspect and the victim together on the day the victim went missing.

It was alleged that, Appiah after the dastardly act, brought out his clothing and set it on fire, probably to delete any evidence of the crime.

Discovered Intestines

The police later discovered the intestines of the victims buried on a cocoa farm.

A police statement signed by ACP Kwesi Ofori, acting Director-General, Public Affairs, of the Ghana Police Service said “the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters team investigating the Abesim murder case has yesterday, Tuesday, August 24, 2021, discovered a place where suspect Richard Appiah buried the intestines of one of the murder victims.”

The statement said further how the police also found a sharp cutlass used in the murder, as well as where the body parts were buried.

“The intestines were buried on a cocoa farm at Abesim, which the police have since exhumed for pathological analysis and forensic examination in Accra,” the statement pointed out.

“The investigation team has also worked around a septic tank and other places of concern for further examinations,” the statement said.

According to them, being law-abiding and handing him over to the police for prosecution is a wrong move they shouldn’t have done, considering how abysmally the police has handled the matter several months after.

After the suspect was re-arrested he told the court he was allegedly helped by a CID officer named Ametepe to escape. That officer has since been transferred with no investigation done into the claim.

Following the discovery of human remains from a septic tank in a house previously occupied by the suspect, the CID has requested that families of the three kidnapped girls avail themselves for DNA samples to be taken to establish the identities of the human parts.

“The first mistake we did was we deciding to hand over the suspect to the police, we should have rather beat him to death. We thought we did the right thing by handing him over to the police but they allowed him to escape from their custody when he was detained in the cell.”

DNA report clears Lebanese suspect https://www.adomonline.com/dna-report-clears-lebanese-suspect/ https://www.adomonline.com/dna-report-clears-lebanese-suspect/#comments Mon, 15 Jan 2018 11:40:28 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=837881 Police investigators handling the suspected rape case involving Lebanese national appear to be getting through with the case, as a DNA test on a 19-year-old house help who was allegedly raped by her Lebanese employer in his Airport Hills residence in Accra, gives a glimmer of hope to the accused.
An earlier lab report obtained from the Police Hospital dated December 3, 2017 according to DAILY GUIDE sources, had indicated that sperm was found on the lady.
Subsequently, further swabs were taken for forensic laboratory test to ascertain whether the sperm was that of Rabih Haddad’s, but it has turned negative, clearing the way for the possible freedom of the Lebanese, who has been under police custody at the Ridge Hospital.
DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the result of the forensic DNA test indicates that no sperm was found on the victim (name withheld), sharply contradicting the earlier Police Hospital report.
According to the DNA report titled, ‘The Republic Vrs Rabih Haddad,’ Lab No. DNA 66/17, “The virginal swab cuts reacted negatively to the test of human semen. Based on the DNA analysis, the suspect Rabih Haddad, can be excluded as a contributor to the DNA profile obtained from the Exhibit.”
The DNA report, a copy of which is in possession of DAILY GUIDE, states in its conclusion, “The victim, name withheld, is the sole contributor/source of the DNA profile generated from the Exhibit.”
The question that is yet to be answered is what could have caused the differences in opinion over whether or not there was sperm on the victim?
According to reports, the fluid taken from the girl might be virginal discharge.
The Lebanese has been in custody since December last year when he was arrested and his lawyer, Ralph Poku Adusei, has been praying the court to grant him bail.
He is to return to court today to press for his bail application.
An Accra District Court had earlier declined him bail because it did not have jurisdiction over the case, directing the defence counsel to apply to the high court.
He subsequently did it but his application was strongly opposed by the Attorney General’s Department, which insists that the accused must remain in custody while the case goes to trial.
Mr Ralph Poku Adusei averred that his client was suffering from cardiac cell damage – a heart condition which he said would not allow his client to be confined.
According to him, if the court denied the accused person bail, the court risked trying a dead man.
He stated that the accused person, while in police custody, fainted and had to be rushed to the hospital by police officers.
Haddad has since been put on oxygen and DAILY GUIDE’s sources say his oxygen level is 90 percent, but he fainted any time the oxygen was taken off at the Ridge Hospital.
His lawyer has been telling the court that the prosecution is not certain why the police arrested him.
Mr Adusei said the defence team had raised an alibi and the police had still not investigated the alibi.
An Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Dorgu, has set today, January 15, 2018, to rule on the application.

‘Justice for All’ beneficiary caged for 20 years https://www.adomonline.com/justice-beneficiary-caged-20-years/ Wed, 28 Jun 2017 10:33:33 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=253591 A metal fabricator, who was released from prison under the Justice for All Programme (JFAP) in 2015, was yesterday jailed 20 years with hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court for engaging in series of robberies at Kwashieman in Accra.

The convict, Samuel Ato alias Kofi Obeng, was slapped with the jail term after the court found him guilty of two counts of robbery.

He was, however, acquitted and discharged on another three counts of robbery because the victims and complainants failed to show up at the court to give their evidence.

Ato benefited from the JFAP in 2015 after two years on remand without trial in connection with a robbery case, but found himself on the wrong side of the law when he led a gang of three to rob some residents of Kwashieman in Accra in the same year he was released.

He was arrested when he attempted to sell some of the stolen items from the robbery operation to one of the victims at Tip Toe Lane, near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra.

During the trial, Ato denied being part of the robbery gang and insisted that he bought the items which he tried to sell to the shop owner.

But the presiding judge, Mr Aboagye Tandoh, in convicting him, stated that Ato failed to lead the police to the said seller of the items.

“I find it as a fact that the accused person was part of the people that robbed the complainants,’’ he said.

The court was also of the view that the prosecution proved that Ato tried to bribe the police officers, who arrested him, with GH¢8,000 to drop the case.

In sentencing the convict, Mr Tandoh explained that he took into consideration the fact that Ato had been in custody for almost two years and the fact that the items stolen had been given back to the victims.

The facts as presented by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, were that on May 31, 2015, about 1a.m, Ato and two others, who are now at large, went on a robbery spree at a compound house in Kwashieman.

The gang armed with a double-barrelled gun entered the house and started robbing from room to room.

Selling items to victim

Chief Inspector Adu said a few days after the robbery, one of the victims was at his shop at Tip Toe Lane when Ato came and offered to sell him a Pineng back-up power, which he (Ato) stole from him.

“When the victim got closer to Ato, he noticed that Ato was wearing his Nike Airmax sneakers and his Tommy Hilfiger wrist watch which were stolen during the robbery. With the assistance of other people, Ato was arrested and handed over to the police,’’ the prosecutor said.

One more suspect arrested over Major Mahama murder https://www.adomonline.com/one-suspect-arrested-major-mahama-murder/ https://www.adomonline.com/one-suspect-arrested-major-mahama-murder/#comments Wed, 14 Jun 2017 13:26:14 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=182671 One of 12 people who have been on a police wanted list in connection with the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama two weeks ago has been arrested.

Details are sketchy but JOYNEWS sources within the police confirm the arrest.

The suspect known as Daddy, was arrested at his hideout Diaso near Denkyira Boase in the Central region.

There are currently 45 males and eight females who are standing trial over the tragic incident. They include a nursing mother whose child has been given to a police officer to be catered for.

The suspects are on remand pending the conclusion of investigations, Spokesperson of Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ASP Olivia Turkson has said.

But after the callous lynching last month, many parents and guardians fled the town for fear of reprisals. Children were left alone without care.

Other children in the town also witnessed the lynching as adults perpetrated the act.

In fact, one child a 12 year old boy, was seen participating in the lynching, leading to his arrest.

These occurrences, according to NGO Childs Right International, have the tendency of affecting the psychology of the children involved.

CEO Bright Appiah says the best solution is for the state to rehabilitate and reintegrate the children to prevent them from experiencing permanent trauma.

Police say the man, Kwame Tufour, used a cement block to hit the army officer, resulting in his death.

The man is said to have run away after the act, but residents of the town tipped the police off to his location.

The police caught him with one Kwame Adjei, 40, who is believed to have participated in the killing of the captain.

During interrogation, he told the police that when he arrived at the scene, Captain Mahama had already been killed and that he used a block to hit the captain’s dead body.

The captain had been spotted carrying a pistol by some women he had bought snails from and the women who, police say, assumed he was a robber, called the assembly man and reported that they had seen.

Police say the assembly man, without finding out if the information was correct, quickly rallied members of the town to attack and kill the captain.

The late army officer will be buried on Friday, June 9.

Captain Mahama shot one of his attackers – Kwamena Duncan https://www.adomonline.com/captain-mahama-shot-one-attackers-kwamena-duncan/ Wed, 31 May 2017 15:34:21 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=144941 One of the five suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama, sustained a gunshot wound during the lynching that resulted in the Army officer’s death at Denkyira-Obuasi. Captain Mahama apparently fired off a shot during a struggle before being killed by his attackers on Monday morning.

It was widely reported that Captain Mahama was armed, whilst on his morning jog.

Revealing this bit of information after a press briefing in Cape Coast on Wednesday, the Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, said the wounded suspect was left in Diaso for medical attention under the watch of security personnel.

He told Citi News that “the information I have is that, this person, I am sure even knew the officer and came around with a motorbike. The reasonable thing for him to do was to whisk him away since he knew he [Captain Mahama] was a military officer.

Unfortunately, he also attempted to disarm the military officer and in the process, I am sure there was the accidental firing of a shot and that is what happened.” Mr. Duncan, during the briefing, noted that the suspect “was affected by a gunshot. He had a gunshot wound.

In order that that would not become a problem for the commander, he decided that some medical attention is given to him [the suspect] and when he is in a good state, he will be transported here to Cape Coast.”

On the course of the investigations so far, Mr. Duncan assured that Central Regional Police Command was up to the task of finding the murders of Captain Mahama. “We have made progress and we can assure the entire country that so far, by the leadership provided by the Regional Commander and his men, I have no doubt in our minds that they will get to the bottom of this matter.”

“We wish also to tell the entire country that this is a matter that will not in any way be covered up and we dare not.

The police have promised that they go through the full investigation process to establish a serious and a clear case against those who were involved in this.”

The other four suspects are being held at the Bakaano Police station, and the Mr. Duncan said they may be arraigned “by the end of today [Wednesday] or tomorrow [Thursday].”

The accused Agbo is alleged to have robbed one Stephen Kodjo Ofori and his girlfriend, at Tema Steel Works, of a Nokia, Samsung, and M-horse smart phones worth Ghc70, Ghc130 and Ghc 300 respectively.

The accused and his accomplice, Micheal Agbavi who is at large, are reported to have carried out the attack on April 17, 2017.

But before Rashid could be brought from the holding cell into the court room he had eased himself and smeared the toilet on himself.

Proceedings were halted for about two (2) hours forcing the Judge to abandon the court room while the prosecutor and other officers to put the situation under control.

The case was later recalled as trial judge, Gabriel Mate-Teye continued with proceedings.

The court has since remanded Agbo into police custody and adjourned the case to May 4, 2017, to allow the police pursue and arrest Rashid’s accomplice.

Suspect tells court he didn’t kill Abuakwa North MP https://www.adomonline.com/suspect-tells-court-didnt-kill-abuakwa-north-mp/ Wed, 15 Mar 2017 17:50:02 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=29411 Daniel Asiedu, the man accused of murdering the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, J. B. Danquah, has denied killing the former MP in court.

According to him he was lured by his in-law, whose name he gave as Kwame, to the Accra Regional Police Command where he was arrested for killing the former legislator.

Asiedu made the statement at the start of his committal proceedings at the Accra District Court on Wednesday morning.

Facts

Asiedu was arrested on Thursday, February 11, 2016, in a special operation led by the Accra Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

He allegedly confessed that he stabbed the MP to death.

Upon his arrest, three mobile phones, two of which were believed to belong to the late MP, were retrieved from the suspect.

The facts of the case, as presented by the prosecution, were that the MP, Mr Danquah-Adu, lived with his family in a one-storey house at Shiashie, near East Legon, in Accra, while Asiedu and Bosso lived at Agbogbloshie, also in Accra.

About 11:40 p.m. on February 8, 2016, the MP arrived home and went to bed in a room located on the first floor of his house.

About 1 a.m. that same night, Asiedu and Bosso, armed with a catapult, a cutter and a sharp knife, went to the legislator’s house.

Bosso is said to have assisted Asiedu to enter the house by scaling the wall on the blind side of a security man who was fast asleep. On entering the house, Asiedu climbed onto a porch on the top floor with a ladder and entered the MP’s bedroom through a window.

While Asiedu was searching the room, the MP woke up and held him. There ensued a struggle, during which Asiedu stabbed the MP in the right chest above the breast. The MP consequently held the knife, and Asiedu pulled it through the MP’s hand, making a deep cut in his palm.

The legislator, who bled profusely, fell by his bed, after which Asiedu stabbed him several times on his right chest and neck.

On realising that the MP was dying, Asiedu left the room and took with him three iPhones.

Meanwhile, the struggle between the MP and Asiedu had drawn the attention of the security man in the house, who alerted other security men in the neighbourhood.

Having realised the impending danger, Bosso took to his heels, leaving Asiedu behind. However, Asiedu managed to descend from the top of the house and jumped over the electric fencing on the walls of the house into an adjoining house and escaped.
