Muntari, who was part of Inter’s historic 2010 Champions League-winning squad, believes the current team possesses the experience and strength needed to succeed after their 2023 final defeat to Manchester City.

“I think Inter Milan are building up their team. They are very strong, let’s see. They are more experienced now, mature. Inter Milan has a really strong and well-experienced team,” Muntari told 3Sports.

Paris Saint-Germain, on the other hand, continue to chase their first-ever Champions League trophy, having been runners-up in 2021.

Kick-off is set for 19:00 GMT.

The ex-midfielder, who endured racist abuse during his time in the Italian Serie A with Pescara, recalled one of his most painful experiences—a match against Cagliari where he walked off the pitch after receiving a yellow card for protesting against racist chants from the crowd.

Reflecting on the incident in an interview with Flashscore, the former Inter Milan and AC Milan midfielder, 40, stated, “They can’t deal with racism in Italy. It’s going to be like this for a long time unless they act in a very strict way. In England, you can be suspended or jailed for racism, but even with that, it is still there. It’s human nature, it is things that they feel about us.”

Sharing his perspective on dealing with racism, Muntari advised players to remain focused despite the abuse.

“As a player, I think you don’t have to pay attention to it. If you’re playing football, you go on to do just that. If you’re working, you go on to do just that. Wherever you are, just focus on what you do and don’t let someone get to you. Sometimes they bring their frustration to you.”

Looking back, he admitted he might have handled things differently.

“If I knew at that time, I would have handled things differently. I was young, so I would fight back. That being said, I’m hoping one day racism will stop,” he added.

Muntari’s appearance in that match against Cagliari took his Serie A tally to 270 games, making him the African player with the most appearances in the league at the time. His record was later surpassed by fellow Ghanaian Kwadwo Asamoah in 2021.

With regular captain Thomas Partey sidelined due to injury, Kudus was handed the armband ahead of Ghana’s crucial doubleheader against Sudan.

However, the decision backfired as the Black Stars failed to qualify for the tournament, set to take place in Morocco later this year.

Speaking to 3Sports, Muntari acknowledged Kudus’ leadership potential but argued that the 23-year-old should not have been rushed into the role.

“Kudus, no matter what, is going to be the captain of the national team one day,” Muntari said.

“Let it be smooth for him, don’t just rush him. He doesn’t need the armband, but he commands on the field. He carries the whole nation on his shoulders, and he plays with us.”

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan midfielder emphasized that Kudus is still developing and should be allowed to focus on his game.

“So, what is your problem? You want to disturb him? I’m not saying you’ll worry him, but let him be. Let him enjoy his football. Kudus has not yet seen his full potential. What we see is just a glimpse. Kudus is just amazing. As he continues to grow, he’ll be deadly,” he added.

Following their AFCON qualification disappointment, Ghana will shift its focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, set to resume in March 2025.

Muntari made the move to Inter in 2008 after impressing with Portsmouth in the English Premier League.

Under manager Harry Redknapp, he played a pivotal role in winning the FA Cup in his final season at the club.

In July 2008, Muntari joined Inter, and under Mourinho’s leadership, he became a key figure in the team.

Reflecting on the transfer in an interview with Flashscore, Muntari recalled Mourinho’s direct approach.

“Mourinho was in Ghana in 2008 during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. I was also with Portsmouth at that time so we played with his Chelsea side and we were good. After the African Cup, during pre-season for my second season, my agent called me and said, ‘Maybe, maybe, maybe Inter Milan will call you’.

“During training, I put in some really nice crosses and Redknapp said while laughing, ‘That’s amazing. That’s excellent. That’s why the top teams like Inter want to buy you.’ So when I got home, the same day I got a call from Jose and he said, ‘You want to come play for me?’ I said yes sir. He replied, ‘I’ll see you in Milan tomorrow’. He just put the phone down. That’s it, then I signed for Inter the next day. The rest was history.”

In his first season with Inter, Muntari won the Serie A title, and he played a vital role in the club’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2009/10, securing the Serie A, Coppa Italia, and UEFA Champions League trophies.

Muntari, who briefly returned to the domestic league during the 2021/22 season, previously played for Liberty Professionals before embarking on a successful career in Europe.

During his time with Accra Hearts of Oak, he helped the team win the President’s Cup and the MTN FA Cup but chose not to renew his contract.

In an interview with 3Sports, the 40-year-old former Inter Milan and AC Milan star lamented the state of Ghana’s top-tier league.

“Hearts fans and the president were amazing,” Muntari, who won the Champions League in 2010, told 3Sports.

“The league is a big hole where they are dumping money. There is no future for the local league.”

“I am hoping I can get some funds and really help them. It’s a mess. When I was there, it was a mess. Maybe now it is worse. If we don’t help these guys, we won’t get the top players.”

Muntari also highlighted poor conditions in the league, including inadequate facilities.

“The changing rooms smell. That respect is not there. I didn’t even want my laundry done. I would take it home. When you get into changing rooms, they smell bad. It is not just one team; everybody,” Muntari, who played in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil, added.

Muntari, who represented Ghana at three World Cups, voiced hope that he could secure funding to help improve the league.

Currently, the Ghana Premier League faces significant challenges, including the lack of a headline sponsor and broadcast rights holder.

Growing up, Boakye was captivated by Muntari’s passion and determination on the pitch—qualities that resonate deeply with him.

In an interview with Flashcore, Boakye revealed: “Sulley Muntari was my idol growing up because my mum loved him so much. I watched him and fell in love with him as well. His passion and ambition stood out. I also loved his long-range goals and how he fought for Ghana whenever he played. Even in Europe, he paved the way for young ones like me.”

This inspiration has not only shaped Boakye’s style of play but has also instilled in him a sense of responsibility to represent his country with pride.

As a player, the Saint-Étienne midfielder identifies as a classic number 10, focusing on playmaking and assisting his teammates.

“I am a number 10 who loves to assist. I love it more when I assist my striker because I think that when the striker scores more, it gives the team more confidence. I see the striker as the main man, so when he’s not scoring and gets frustrated, it affects the whole team.”

While Boakye harbors dreams of representing Ghana at the national level, he maintains a grounded perspective on the process.

“For me, I don’t feel the pressure to be in the national team because everyone deserves to be in the team. I just want to enjoy football, so if I’m playing for my club, I’m proud of that.”

Boakye acknowledges that while playing for his country would be a dream come true, he is not fixated on it.

“I’m from Ghana, so it would be a dream to play for the country, but I am not going to force it and say I have to play in the national team.” His focus remains on his club career, emphasizing that “the call-up could come today or tomorrow; I don’t know when, but when it comes, it will be good, and I will be ready,” he added.

The WAFA graduate has played five games so far in Ligue 1 for Saint-Étienne and will be hoping to help them stay in the top flight this season.

“Partey is excellent, superb, a world-class player, you can’t take that away from him,” Muntari told Joy Sports.

“He is so intelligent in midfield, very elegant when he plays, it is a joy to watch.

“With the national team, I sit up there and then think, sometimes I don’t see him around the team like these two games (South Korea and Uruguay) but if Partey switched for like 25 percent of his strength, his mind, intelligence, the way he can play, Ghana would be massive.

“He is so smart and intelligent that he would change everything that we do. Basically, how the Black Stars play will change for the better,” he added.

Ghana suffered an open defeat against Portugal before recording a 3-2 win over South Korea.

In the final Group H game, the team needed a draw to book a place in the next round but suffered a 2-0 defeat against Uruguay.

Muntari, who earned 80 caps for the Black Stars and scored 20 goals, has been without a club since leaving Ghana Premier League side, Hearts of Oak in the summer.

He began his career at local side, Liberty Professionals before joining Serie A club, Udinese where he played for five years.

The 2010 Champions league winner also had stints with AC Milan, Inter Milan and English Premier League sides, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

“I just did a few months with the local side [Hearts of Oak]. My son wanted me to play. I didn’t play for almost three years, then my son decided to ask me to go and play. I did that, but now I’m done,” Muntari said to Sky Sports on Monday.

Muntari featured for Ghana between 2002 and 2014 and was key to the country’s qualification for the World Cup in Germany (2006), South Africa (2010) and Brazil (2014)

It is unclear what the former Sunderland man will do after hanging his boots. He is currently in the camp of the Black Stars at the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana, who are making their fourth appearance at the tournament, will face off the European side with Cristiano Ronaldo expected to lead the side.

With the team preparing for the much anticipated game, Muntari, who played at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups has visited the camp of the team.

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan ace motivated the playing body ahead of the clash. The game has been scheduled to kick off at 16:00GMT.

“My inability to get a trophy for Ghana really hurt. It hurts because in 2008 we were close and then in 2012 we came close,” he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah in an interview.

Muntari also announced that he will not be taking up a role in football when he hangs his boots.

Sulley Muntari played 84 times for Ghana and remains one of the country’s most capped players.

Muntari played in two Africa Cup of Nation finals in 2008 and 2012 where Ghana finished in the last four.

He scored 20 goals for Ghana. Muntari also played in 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil respectively.

He last played for Hearts of Oak where he won the FA Cup and the President’s Cup.

According to him, the former Black Stars midfielder’s decision to attack the then-management member of the senior national team embarrassed the team on the biggest stage.

“Muntari and Kevin were not kicked out of camp for technical reasons; they were kicked out of camp on disciplinary grounds,” Nyantakyi said in a Joy Sports’ Prime Take interview.

“A fight broke out and I remember begging Sulley to stop, but he wouldn’t listen to me,” he recalled.

“The fight was uncalled for and the fight was unwarranted; it was needless.

“The embarrassment that it brought to the whole team was just unbearable so that was the best decision to take at that time,” he stated.

Nyantakyi, who led Ghana to three World Cups, revealed he has begged twice for Sulley to be taken to the 2010 Mundial in South Africa because players sometimes have to be managed, but this one escalated.

“On many occasions, there have been times players have done certain things that we have forgiven them or overlooked them, but this was something we could not overlook,” he said.

Muntari recently apologised to Parker for the embarrassment he caused him and his family eight years ago.

The Former AC Milan star was sent home from camp for physically assaulting the owner of the Medeama Sporting Club, Moses Parker during a disagreement over appearances fees.

According to Muntari, he felt remorseful after the incident and has since been looking for an opportunity to openly apologise for his indiscipline towards the former Black Stars committee member.

He revealed the dishonesty by the Management was what led to the unfortunate incident in Brazil.

“I will use this opportunity to apologise to him. I disgraced him and made people ridicule him. It was not intentional to do something like that. Whenever I see him, I will find a way to apologise to him directly. He is an elder and I’ve been looking for him for a long time. I’ve no bad feelings about him. It was not him but the situation,” he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV as quoted by pulse.com.gh.

“I never had the chance to talk to him but I don’t think I had problems with him during the World Cup. It was a pile of a lot of things that led to me bursting out. I’m someone who doesn’t talk and when I work, I work really hard,” he said.

The Champions League winner also extended an apology to the family of the renowned businessman if his actions caused them some discomfort.

“I don’t disrespect elders so it will take a lot of things for me to react, unfortunately, he was sitting in front of me and things got really bad. Immediately it happened I felt really bad. I wasn’t thinking just about him but his daughter, his family, his wife, and all those things. It’s not right for someone to disrespect their father. I’ve looking for him to apologise to him for my behaviour at that time but I have not seen him yet.

Muntari has been capped 84 times by Ghana and scored 20 goals.

Muntari, who is a former AC Milan and Inter Milan ace, revealed that he had his first trial abroad at Manchester United in 2001, spending two weeks with their youth team.

According to him, though he had a good trial, he had to return home after the May 9th stadium disaster that happened in Ghana.

“Slay (Sellas Tetteh) took me to Manchester United for trials…At that time, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Beckham, and everybody so…Yeah it was very good I worked with the junior team. I spent a week or two and that was when the disaster happened. I was there when it happened and I came back home,” he told Dan Kweku Yeboah TV.

He said while waiting on Man United to send the contract and complete the deal, Udinese presented a deal, which he signed.

“When I came we were waiting for United to give me the contract, so I sign and all that. So we were waiting for the contract to come but then Udinese came right away.”

While explaining why the United deal broke down, he said the English Premier League side wanted him to join their sister club, Royal Antwerp on loan for further assessment.

“Man United was interested but I didn’t play with the national team so I had to go to Belgium, Antwerp because they had a relationship with them. So you pick up.”

Muntari started his career at Liberty Professionals before moving to Udinese and then to Portsmouth, where he established. He later returned to Italy and played for giants like Inter Milan and AC Milan.

He is one of the few Ghanaian players to have won the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup alongside the Italian Serie A title.

Muntari was part of the Black Stars squad that qualified the country for the 2006 World Cup in Germany and went in to play in the 2010 and 2014 in South Africa and Brazil respectively.

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan ace has left Hearts of Oak after failing to renew his contract with the Ghana Premier League side.

Muntari is currently unattached after leaving the side. The former Portsmouth midfielder signed a six-month deal with the Phobian Club midway through last season. 

“[To play] outside (Europe), no more, I don’t want to play football anymore,” he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah in an interview on YouTube.

“I only wanted to help the local league gain ground because the local league gave us a lot when we were playing. So I wanted to give back to the local league.

“It’s not that I’m retired or not retired but I just don’t want to play [football], I’m tired but then with friends I train with them. If I decide to play, it will be in the local league but it’s not my priority,” he added.

Muntari scored his first goal for the club in March when he converted a penalty in their 2-1 win against WAFA at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He also surprised many with his fitness and impressive performances, as he helped Hearts to win the President’s Cup and the FA Cup.

Muntari was part of Black Stars squad that qualified the country for the 2006 Mundial in Germany.

He went on to play in the 2010 and 2014 global showpieces.

Muntari won the English FA Cup, the Champions League, and also the Italian Serie A.

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan midfielder signed a six-month loan deal with the club midway through the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

Muntari assisted the Phobian Club to win the President’s Cup and the FA Cup.

However, the 36-year-old did not renew his contract with the Rainbow Club.

He was linked to the Porcupine Warriors before the start of the 2022/23 football season.

According to Muntari, he did not want to disgrace himself and put a dent in his legacy after his suggestions on how to improve the squad for their African campaign proved futile.

Speaking to Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, Muntari who was close to joining Hearts’ rivals Asante Kotoko after failed talks with the Phobians said both clubs did not want to build their team the European way.

“Yeah, I had a few talks with them (Asante Kotoko) I spoke to some board members because I wanted to help them in Africa but I was with Hearts of Oak at that time,” he said.

“My contract had run out and I was talking with them to build a very, very strong team. I didn’t want to go and disgrace myself in the African campaign. If you qualify for the CAF Champions League or any other CAF competition or even Europe, you prepare for that. You augment the squad that you qualified with some good players and build the team.

“So I was talking with Hearts of Oak to build the team but the management had different ideas. And if someone has a different idea, although you tell them to do stuff, if they don’t want to do it, you don’t push it.

“I’ll tell you the truth, I didn’t want to go and disgrace myself. And I know I’ve really worked hard in terms of football, so for me to come and let some little things wipe all the work that I’ve done, no. I won’t do it, no. So I was talking with Kotoko about the same (thing),” he added.

The former Portsmouth midfielder and English FA Cup winner also clarified that his attempt to join Asante Kotoko was not because Hearts of Oak failed to adopt his suggested models.

“It is not because Hearts didn’t do as I said that’s why I wanted to go to Kotoko, no. But even if it’s second division, it’s the same mentality I would come up with, so you can build a strong team. Because the moment you build a strong team, the following year you can sell two or three players then you get money then you build the team again. Most of the teams we played in Europe that’s what they do.”

Both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko got kicked out of their respective African campaigns after their first games.

Asante Kotoko lost 4-3 on penalties to Burkinabe side RC Kadiogo in the first round of the CAF Champions League while Hearts lost 3-1 on aggregate to Malian side, AS Bamako in the CAF Confederations Cup.

In a yet-to-be aired interview with Joy Sports, Mr Nyantakyi said he twice pleaded on his knees with the Serbian gaffer not to exclude the midfielder from World Cup

“Yes, in 2010 I did it. I did it twice, not even once,” the former GFA President said in the interview.

“I had to kneel for Sulley Muntari to be named in the Black Stars for the World Cup.”

Muntari has been snubbed from international duty since the famous unsporting incident in the 2014 World Cup, Brazil.

The former Inter Milan midfielder has 84 caps and 20 goals for Ghana.

The 2010 Champions League winner signed a six-month deal with the club midway through last season.

“Muntari has a decision to make but the most important thing for us is that he came in and played for us for a particular period in which we had an agreement,” Opare Addo, who is the Communications Manager of the side told Onua TV.

“If he will continue with us, there will be another agreement to continue because these are footballing issues but if he has a different decision you cannot force somebody to do something for you if the person has a different decision.”

Opare Add, however, was quick to add that the club is still in talks to see if they can get Muntari to change his mind, as he’s currently a free agent.

“For now, the club is still in talks with Muntari but unfortunately the transfer window has closed, so if there is anything that can be done, we will look at it but unfortunately the transfer window has closed,” Opare added.

Reports have emerged that the 2010 Champions League winner has agreed a two-year-deal with the Kumasi based club.

However, David Obeng Nyarko, the Brands and Communications Manager of Kotoko has dismissed reports that they have signed Muntari after his six-month spell with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

“Not true please,” he reacted to the report on Twitter.

The Reds are expected to travel outside of the country for Turkey to continue their preparations ahead of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

Midway last season, the 2010 Champions League winner and the former AC Milan midfielder joined Hearts of Oak on a six months deal.

With the Phobian Club set to represent the country in the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup, the former Inter Milan was expected to extend his stay at the club but has turned down a contract extension offer.

Having rejected a new contract offer, Asante Kotoko, according to multiple reports, are in talks to sign Muntari, who played in 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cup in Germany, South Africa, and in Brazil on a free transfer.

Asante Kotoko are in Accra having their pre-season but are expected to leave the shores of the country for Turkey to continue their preparations for the upcoming season.

The Reds have already signed expatriate players to strengthen their side ahead of the new football season.

Asante Kotoko will open their 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season with a home game against Nsoatraman FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

In the preliminary round of the Champions League, Kotoko have been paired with Burkinabe side, RC Kadiogo.

The former AC Milan and Portsmouth ace joined the Phobians midway during the 2021/22 football season on a six-month deal.

Muntari played a vital role as the club won the Presidents’ Cup and the FA Cup despite finishing 6th with 48 points in the just-ended season.

Having defended the FA Cup, Samuel Boadu and his charges will represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup. Speaking in an interview he affirmed that he wants to be part of the club’s Africa campaign.

“I had only six months contract with Hearts of Oak but I want to renew it. I want to be part of the African campaign,” he told GTV Sports+.

Meanwhile, Muntari has also expressed his desire to serve the national team anytime he’s called upon.

The 37-year-old has not played for the Black Stars in nearly eight years after being banned from the national team after the 2014 World Cup.

Muntari said he’d be willing to serve the national team even if he were on crutches, insisting he’d want to contribute anytime.

“Ghana? Even if I’m on crutches today and they call me to come help, I’ll definitely run and go. Even if I can’t play, I’ll sit there and contribute,” he said.

Muntari played in 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil respectively.

Muntari joined the Phobians earlier this year on a six-month deal, helping them to secure the 2022 President’s Cup as well as beating Bechem United to the MTN FA Cup title.

The triumph in the FA Cup means the club will now compete in the CAF Confederations Cup next season, a target that has pushed the former AC Milan player to extend his contract.

Speaking on GTV Sports+, the midfielder revealed his readiness to extend his contract with the 2000 CAF Champions League winners.

“I had only six months contract with Hearts of Oak but I want to renew it. I want to be part of the African campaign,” he said.

Muntari, who turns 38 next month, made 11 appearances, providing three assists and scoring once for the Rainbow club.

He will be looking to help Hearts who had a poor outing in the competition last season. They were Ghana’s sole representatives in Africa last season after winning the premier league and the FA Cup but were knocked out in the CAF Champions League by eventual winners Wydad Casablanca.

Registration for the CAF competition will begin on August 1 and end on August 15, with the preliminary matches in both competitions beginning on September 9, 2022.

The Porcupine Warriors, following their 2021/22 Ghana Premier League success, will represent the country in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League next season.

The Kumasi-based side, however, had their crowning moment in front of their home fans following a 3-0 thrashing of Elmina Sharks in their matchday 33 games over the weekend.

Ahead of their Africa campaign, Don Bortey believes signing Barnieh, Muntari, who is a former Black Stars midfielder and Alhassan will put Kotoko in a good position to go far in the competition.

“I’ve told them to augment the squad because the competition is tough. So just like they signed (Frank Etouga) Mbella and (George) Mfegue, they should sign a couple of them,” he told Angel FM.

“It doesn’t matter where they will get them from but if they have money they need to sign them… It will be difficult but I will mention players from Hearts of Oak, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Mohammed Alhassan.

“If they would get Sulley (Muntari), they should sign him too,” he added.

Don Bortey won four Ghana Premier League titles with the Phobians, as well as the CAF Super Cup and CAF Confederations Cup.

He was also joint top-scorer in the league in 2003 after netting 18 goals, while he also had notable stints with Al Wasl and Ange IF.

The former FC Basel right back on Tuesday morning trained with the Ghana Premier League champions ahead of their matchday 21 games against Ashanti Gold SC at the Len Clay Stadium.

However, Opare Addo, in an interview said, Inkoom is training with the club to be assessed by the technical team.

According to him, the technical team has been asked to monitor the performance and progress of the player to see if he is good enough to be signed by the club.

“Samuel Inkoom is at the Hearts of Oak training grounds. He’s training with the team and the technical handlers are looking at him,” he told Kumasi based Pure FM.

”Hearts will sign him if he impresses the coaches. Sulley Muntari passed through the same process before he was signed,” he added.

Inkoom was part of the Ghana U20 team that won the 2009 FIFA Youth Championship and was part of the team when Ghana reached the quarter-final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

He last played for Georgian side, Torpedo Kutaisi. Inkoom played for 11 clubs abroad including Swiss giants Basel and Ukraine’s FC Dnipro.

According to the club, the former AC Milan star picked up an injury in the 2-1 victory over WAFA on Wednesday.

“The decision to exempt Sulley Muntari from the game against Aduana Stars is based on medical advice after he picked up a knock in our previous game and not his personal decision as being speculated,” the club tweeted.

In addition, the club clarified the situation of three other players; Daniel Kordie who has returned to training, whilst Agyenim Boateng has fully recovered and will return to the squad after several months of absence due to injury.

The last update was on Salifu Ibrahim, who is still under medical observation, however, he has started light training to quicken his recovery.

Muntari has been involved in five games for Hearts since joining the club in February, starting all but one of the games in the league.

The 37-year-old was also key to the Rainbow club beating Asante Kotoko to the 2022 President’s Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.

His performances have led to rallying calls from fans and other football authorities for the former Inter Milan midfielder to be recalled into the national team for the double-header against Nigeria for a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

However, Dr Tamakloe, who was a part of the player’s days in the national team, has insisted the time is not right for Muntari to be involved in the team.

“I worked with Sulley Muntari in 2004 when he was with the U23 squad. I was then the GFA boss. [It is clear that he is doing well] but let’s not rush him back to the team. I believe when the time is right, Sulley himself would know it and decide on it,” he said on Asempa FM.

Since Ghana’s World Cup fiasco in Brazil 2014, Muntari is yet to play for the Black Stars.

Muntari was announced as a new Hearts player on February 1, 2022, and prior to his unveiling, the former Black Stars player had been training with the club.

He signed a short-term deal with the Phobians but the club hierarchy believe he’s shown enough to work longer with him.

The midfield maestro made his debut five days later when the Phobians hosted Great Olympics in the Mantse Derby at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Muntari has gone on to make a further four appearances for the defending league leaders, amassing a total of 289 minutes during that time.

Muntari played 14 minutes against Olympics, 80 against RTU. In the game against Kotoko and Legon Cities, he lasted 51 and 62 minutes respectively before play 82 minutes against WAFA.

In his first five games, the former Inter Milan man has started four, with his only substitute appearance being the debut game against Olympics.

During his time with the Accra-based outfit, the 37-year-old has been involved in two goals, scoring against WAFA and assisting the goal in the 1-1 draw against Legon Cities.

Muntari was also involved as Hearts beat Kotoko to clinch the 2022 President’s Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Following his return to the Ghana Premier League, the 36-year-old has been a livewire for the Phobians after signing a short term deal with the club.

Muntari scored his first goal for the Phobians through a spot-kick in their 2-1 win over WAFA on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With series of impressive performances, many fans and sympathizers are calling for his inclusion in Otto Addo’s new Black Stars squad for the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

When quizzed on a likely return to the Black Stars for the first time since 2014, the former Inter Milan said, “I don’t know, but time will tell, let’s see.”

The 37-year-old was kicked out of the Black Stars camp back in 2014 during the World Cup hosted in Brazil and has since not earned a call-up.

Muntari was reportedly dismissed after he got physical with a member of staff.

Ghana will host the first leg on March 25, 2022, at the Cape Coast Stadium before going to Abuja for the second leg on March 29, 2022.

Muntari has so far made five appearances for the club scoring once with two assists in the process.

Following his return to the Ghana Premier League, the former AC Milan and Inter Milan midfielder has been in fine form.

Muntari put up a superb performance as Hearts of Oak defeated their rivals, Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday in the 2022 President’s Cup.

Following his consistent performance, many people have called for the former Bolton ace to be considered for the much-anticipated game against the Super Eagles.

And, Oduro speaking to Kumasi-based Sikka FM insists Muntari still has what it takes to make an impact at the Black Stars ahead of the crucial games.

“Sulley Muntari always gives tailor-measured passes and he needs to be in Ghana’s squad which will face Nigeria in the upcoming World Cup play-offs,” he said.

Sulley Muntari joined Hearts of Oak on a one-year deal in February. He has played four games with an assist.

The Black Stars will host Nigeria at the Cape Coast Stadium on March 25 before travelling to Abuja for the return game on March 29.

Muntari joined the GPL champions in February on a short-term deal and has since featured in three games.

Hearts of Oak will be hosted by Legon Cities in the matchday 18 games at the El Wak Stadium during the weekend.

Appiah, who featured for Hearts of Oak between 1995 and 1997, was in the VIP area for the crunch tie.

His former playing mate Muntari was in the starting XI and lasted for 51 minutes before being replaced by Frederick Ansah.

The Super Clash which ended in a stalemate meant that Hearts of Oak are still 12 points behind leaders Asante Kotoko heading into the second round of the Ghana Premier League.

After three years without a club, Muntari joined the Phobians on a one-year deal and has since featured in three games.

When Muntari signed for the 20-time league champions, Appiah couldn’t hide his excitement and took to social media to welcome the former Inter Milan midfielder.

Muntari follows former Stade Rennes and Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan, another member of Ghana’s 2006 and 2010 World Cup squads, to return to domestic football.

Hearts of Oak will hope the 2010 Champions League winner can help lead a resurgence when they begin the second round with a home game against Legon Cities.

Muntari, 37, signed a one year deal with the reigning champions last week.

The former Inter Milan midfielder made his debut for the club in their 1-0 defeat to rivals Great Olympics on Sunday in the Mantse Derby.

Speaking to the club’s media following his unveiling, the midfielder opened up on his memorable tattoos.

Meanwhile, the veteran midfielder is also determined to mentor the young players in the Hearts team.

“It is a good team that is very young, a young technical team as well. There is ambition there and me deciding to join the league also means I want to be able to help the young ones,” he said.

“Guide them in the right path though the coach is there. I can also help.”

Hearts of Oak are currently seventh on the league log and trail leaders Asante Kotoko by a whopping 10 points.

The Phobians will be hosted by Real Tamale United in the matchday 17 games this weekend.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz 103.9 FM, the Me Hia Odo hitmaker said the two players will be highly instrumental if the team wants to succeed in winning trophies in the future.

Meanwhile, 34-year-old Kevin Prince Boateng is currently playing for Hertha BSC while 37-year-old Sulley Muntari, after taking a career break in 2019, has joined the local league under the ticket of Hearts of Oak in February 2022, but Kwaisey Pee is certain the duo will do the magic for the team.

Ghana was eliminated at the group stages in the just ended 2021 AFCON tournament. Reacting to this, Kwaisey Pee said the whole team needs a restructure – and that includes calling Kevin and Sulley back to the team.

The Phobians, however, suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Dade lads at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A first-half strike from Razak Yussif was enough to secure all three points for the two times Ghana Premier League champions.

Muntari, a former Inter Milan and AC Milan midfielder, joined the Phobians earlier in the week following days of speculation and was immediately included in the squad to face Olympics.

The 37-year-old was named on the bench as Samuel Boadu opted for a midfield trio of Ushau, Gladon Awako and Amamkwah Baafi.

However, Olympics proved superior in the middle of the park and a swift counterattack saw Annor Walker’s side take the lead after 30 minutes.

Despite Hearts’ renewed efforts in the second half, the Phobians couldn’t find the equaliser as they were condemned to a second defeat in their last three league matches.

Meanwhile, Boadu’s side has now dropped to seventh on the league table, 10 points behind rivals Asante Kotoko who have two games in hand.

The former Liberty Professionals middle man signed a one-year deal with the Phobians ahead of the second round of the 2021/22 season.

Speaking for the first time after joining the reigning champions, the 2010 Champions League winner revealed that his son inspired him to join the club.

“My son really pushed me to play because he said he wants to see me play again,” he said.

The former AC Milan and Inter Milan midfielder has signed a one year deal with the Phobians and was unveiled on Tuesday afternoon.

“Sulley Muntari is a motivator, he is a good guy and I like the way he speaks to the players,” the former Medeama SC gaffer.

“If he joins the team, I think things will change,” he added.

Hearts of Oak pipped King Faisal by a lone goal with Kwadwo Obeng Jnr scoring the only goal.

The Phobians now sit 5th place on the league log with a game at hand against Asante Kotoko.

To Muntari, it takes strong people to do what Atsu has done considering his tough season at Newcastle.

This comes after Atsu, who has over the years been known for such benevolence, left English Premier League side Newcastle United after his contract ended.

Muntari took to his Facebook post to acknowledge and pray for God’s blessing for his co-footballer as he shares photos of him with the boots.

“After having a tough season at Newcastle Utd, Christian Atsu still managed to think about others ; All these soccer boots for charity. Wow! Father , please bless this gentleman with a new deal in a good team.

“We need him up there to be able to do stuff like this for a long time. We cannot forget how he blesses people in our prisons too. Such a blessing,” he wrote.

This is not the first time Atsu has given back to society, in 2018 the former Newcastle winger gave freedom to 10 prisoners at Cape Coast prisons Annex by paying for their court fines. 

He also paid for the release of 40 more prisoners by December 2018 and prevented a mother and daughter from spending three months in prison.

Mr Muntari, amid smiles, held unto his wife so tight as she looked away with all eyes on them.

Menaye described the photos she shared on her Instagram page as the best moments in her life that do not make it onto social media.

The photo has seen a lot of fans and followers pour out their love to the evergreen couple.

The party was to celebrate the birthday of Mrs Muntari, who is the 2004 winner of the Miss Ghana Universe pageant.

Mrs Muntari attained a new age on Saturday, March 20. She turned 40 years old.

The couple got married in 2017 making this year their fourth wedding anniversary.

She shared the photos on her Instagram page.

Muntari has been out of the senior national team after he was thrown out of camp during the 2014 World Cup after fighting with a management team member, Moses Armah Parker and damaging his gadget worth $8,000.

Reacting to Muntari’s reputation as a rebel, Agyemang-Badu said the midfielder was let down by his Black Stars teammates.

According to him, Muntari always stood up for his colleagues but they let him down by not publicly backing him when he attracted controversy.

“I think as players we did not help Sulley Muntari in some situations,” Agyeman-Badu, a former Black Stars midfielder told Citi TV.

“I am also guilty. I cannot exclude myself. Most of the time he stood up for the team. However, we never mentioned it when we were out of camp.

“He would receive all the bashing because everyone is looking out for himself. I need to be real because there are times when it really hurts me,” he added.

Agyemang-Badu is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Serie A side Hellas Verona in January.

Earlier, the former Udinese anchorman announced his retirement from the Ghana national team after over a decade of playing for the Black Stars.

The former Columbus Crew and Right to Dream Academy forward together with Jerry Akaminko, who suffered a horrific injury and Jeffrey Schlupp were dropped from the 23-man squad for the World Cup ahead of a friendly in America.

According to him, he was dropped without any formal notice from the coaching staff before the team’s last friendly match before the tournament.

“The way we manage our football is not really nice,” he told Citi TV.

“We had a game with Holland and the next day we were travelling to America so our bags had been packed and someone sent me the list (on phone) that my name is not part and I didn’t even know because as far as I know, I was travelling with the team.

“All of a sudden, the coach called me that this is what happened, he said, we still believe in you and stuff but this is the team I’m taking but you will still have your chance after the World Cup and I said that’s fine, but I expected it in a formal way not after I saw the list elsewhere.”

However, after he was axed, Accam recounted how they were left hanging as authorities in the team failed to book a flight for them to return to their respective clubs.

“I took my bag and booked my own flight to Sweden,” Accam said after he was asked if they were provided with a return flight.

According to him, it took the intervention of Sulley Muntari to fight for him and his other teammates to get the authorities to request a flight for them or pay their flight tickets.

“Sulley told them in Twi to book a flight for me because you said you’re not going with me,” Accam recounted.

“Sulley said don’t worry, book your flight, I will make sure they pay you your money. He went to the secretary and told him, you guys have to pay or if not you have to pay them the money they used to book the flight,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ghana suffered a humiliation and dominated the headlines for the wrong reasons after exiting the group phase of the tournament.

Mourintari joined Inter in 2008 after excelling with Portsmouth in the English Premier League.

The ex-Black Stars midfielder worked under Harry Redknapp, who was the coach of the English side, so he wanted to hold onto the 36-year-old.

Muntari played a key role in beating Cardiff in winning the FA Cup in his final year at the club.

“I don’t want to sell him. He is one of my best players and is a terrific young talent,” Harry Redknapp told Sky Sports News when interests from Inter Milan popped up in the press.

However, Muntari decided to switch camp from Portsmouth to Inter Milan following a phone call from ‘The Special One’.

“I had returned from training and I was home and he called my phone and said it’s me Mourinho and he said, ‘how are you?’ And I said good,” he said on McBrown’s Kitchen.

“’Do you want to play for me?’ And I said yes sir and he said okay, I will see you in Milano.

“We just parked our bags right away and we just flew to Milan and then I signed, that was it,” he recounted.

The former Udinese midfielder would win a historic treble with the Nerazzurri with the Portuguese tactician as coach- Italian Cup, Serie A and the UEFA Champions League, beating Bayern Munich in the finals.

The beauty queen confirmed her child birth in an interview on Accra-based GhOne TV after the host stunned her with a congratulatory message.

Speaking on why it was kept out of the public, she said though it was not intentional it was good for personal reasons.

She said she just wanted her privacy and enjoy her family, adding that there was no need to display pictures out there.

“Once you put up maternity pictures, there will be a lot of pressure on you to answer questions you may not be ready for and I wasn’t prepared for that.

“Moreover I have graduated from being a girl to a mother with two kids,” she explained.

She, however, did not disclose the gender of the baby and when exactly she put to birth.

According to the Ghanaian model and businesswoman, though they could have afforded one if they wanted to, her dad did not like the idea.

“We did a traditional wedding ceremony and that was what my Dad wanted which is the normal way so Sulley’s family respected that. We never did a white wedding because we all didn’t want to at that moment,” she said.

She explained that her husband was moving to another Club in England so relocating and all that was a whole lot, hence they didn’t want to add up plans for a white wedding.

However, her perspective on the significance of white weddings could have also influenced their decision.

“I think (white wedding) is just a party and not a wedding because if you have already registered your marriage, legally you are his wife. It is just a party and we have parties every day,” she said.
