Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with host Kwame Dadzie, Mr Carter said he has observed several discussions comparing artistes and their events in the region, but believes it is not the right time for such comparisons.

“I’ve seen a lot of conversations coming up which I don’t want to go into at all. This is not the time for comparison,” he said.

According to him, every artiste has the freedom to organise events in any part of the country, including the Volta Region.

He noted that while Stonebwoy has successfully hosted shows in the region, that does not mean other musicians cannot do the same.

“I don’t think the Volta Region belongs to Stonebwoy. Anybody can go there and do a show. He has done his; you can also go there and do yours too. It’s that simple,” he added.

Mr Carter emphasised that the music industry should focus more on major events, collaboration, and growth rather than unnecessary comparisons among artistes.

The concert formed part of activities around the Torcher Experience, an event aimed at entertaining fans while also inspiring young people to pursue their dreams and talents.

The night ultimately became memorable not only for the music but also for the symbolic traditional entrance that highlighted Stonebwoy’s pride in Ghanaian culture.

In an interview, the award-winning artiste said he would support the change if it is guided by clear, nationalistic reasons and brings a positive impact to the country.

He noted that the facility was originally known as Accra International Airport and that reverting to this name could be acceptable if it promotes national unity and progress.

However, Stonebwoy cautioned against a change that does not provide meaningful benefits for the nation.

Acknowledging General Emmanuel Kotoka, after whom the airport is named, the musician highlighted the historical significance tied to his hometown, Alakple, and to Ghana’s history, including the 1966 coup that overthrew Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“This historical narrative has influenced arguments for renaming the airport, with some believing General Kotoka may not represent the best symbol for the state,” he said.

Nonetheless, Stonebwoy stressed that Kotoka’s legacy should be considered in full, noting that there may have been positive reasons for naming the airport after him.

He concluded that if a renaming is to take place, it should be for a compelling and constructive reason that benefits Ghana’s image and strengthens the national narrative.

Initially slated for December 26, 2025, the much-anticipated event will now take place on December 24, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to the organizers, the rescheduling is aimed at enhancing the overall experience for patrons by ensuring improved security, traffic management, crowd safety, and coordination with public agencies, including the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.

In a statement, BMG explained that the change became necessary following the rescheduling of another major event, Taste the Culture, organized by the Black Star Experience, whose new date clashed with the BHIM Festival.

Despite the financial implications, the management said the decision was made in the best interest of public safety and to avoid congestion around the venue.

The organizers also expressed appreciation to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) for its support in facilitating the date change and helping secure the stadium amid the busy December calendar.

“We believe this decision demonstrates our commitment to ensuring harmony within the national December in GH events calendar. We hope that going forward, all stakeholders within the creative industry will support, rather than compete with, Ghanaian event organizers.”

BMG and the BHIM Festival Secretariat apologized to fans for any inconvenience caused by the date adjustment, assuring that all previously purchased tickets remain valid and can be redeemed at the designated centers.

The 10th anniversary edition of the BHIM Festival promises to deliver another unforgettable night of world-class performances and celebration of Ghanaian music and culture.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, he revealed that the new version features Stonebwoy and Kofi Kinaata.

The project forms part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Asor.

According to Kwabena Kwabena, this is only the first of several remixes planned to commemorate the milestone, hinting that more collaborations with other artistes are on the way.

In an earlier interview on Daybreak Hitz in July, the Adult Music hitmaker explained that the goal is not to follow trends but to create music that stands the test of time.

“It’s not the type of song you just want to trend. It is that song that you want, that evergreen thing back again. You want longevity, so it needs to be people who understand music, like Okyeame Kwame. It has to be there,” he said.

The Torcher serves as the follow-up to Stonebwoy’s 2024 full-length album Up & Runnin6. Although he has not released new music in the past eight months, the dancehall and reggae artist has remained active on the global stage with electrifying performances at major festivals across Europe, the United States, and the Caribbean.

Earlier this year, he embarked on the Up & Runnin6 North American Tour, performing in Columbus, Toronto, New York, Worcester, and Silver Spring, before wrapping up with a sold-out show at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. Many fans believe the jab was indirectly aimed at Shatta Wale, given that Sammy Baah now serves as Wale’s communications manager.

While Stonebwoy made no direct reference to his long-time rival, the history of tension between the two dancehall heavyweights has led followers to draw connections.

Speaking in an interview during his stay in Jamaica, the BHIM Nation president was asked directly whether he had “snitched” on his long-time industry rival, leading to the luxury car’s confiscation.

“When you follow the news properly, me and some man will know the truth before the truth comes out. From where I stand, you can’t two-talk, you know. I’m an insider; I know a whole heap of things you can’t know,” he said.

She explained that her husband only bent down to retrieve a fallen diamond bracelet, not to scramble for cash.

“It’s so crazy how some people think. You can clearly see his diamond bracelet fall off and he bends to pick it up, but because of evil and mischief you choose to believe he picked $1??? Some people’s mindset really explains a lot about who they really are… smh,” she posted.

The Black Queens will take on Algeria on Saturday, July 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, with a place in the semifinals at stake.

Speaking exclusively to Asempa FM, Stonebwoy urged the national team to bring glory to Ghana by advancing to the finals. He also called on Ghanaians to throw their support behind the team.

“I enjoy women’s football more than men’s football and have been following it, especially the new player Chantelle Boye. I’ve been doing videos to encourage them,” he said.

“Myself, and I believe all Ghanaians, are rallying behind them, so they should make us proud by beating Algeria this Saturday,” the musician added.

Stonebwoy also expressed his desire to meet the team upon their return from the tournament.

The Black Queens finished second in Group C after a mixed run—falling 2-0 to defending champions South Africa, drawing 1-1 with Mali, and sealing a 4-1 win over Tanzania in their final group match.

“So based on the conversations, we were going back and forth. I said, ‘No, I don’t know about this.’ He was expressing that he wasn’t happy about what my fans were doing, as if I had instigated them. He said I should be the one to tame them. But they were only responding to what he had said. I don’t have any group chats telling them to go and do that. I don’t do that,” Stonebwoy explained.

He emphasized that he has never disrespected Samini, publicly or privately.

Recalling their last positive encounter, Stonebwoy said they met in a studio where he surprised Samini by recording a verse for one of his songs. He noted that their relationship had always been cordial up to that point.

Despite the recent friction, Stonebwoy said he holds no grudge and still sees himself as a junior brother to Samini, stressing that all he wants is love and peace.

He also recounted how, years ago, he took the bold step to visit Samini’s home uninvited to reconcile after a long period of silence—another gesture he believes shows his genuine desire to maintain a healthy relationship.

“In the past, appointments were mostly limited to other sectors, leaving creatives underrepresented,” he noted. “But now, the government has put light on some creatives in the music and movie industry. Usually, appointees are in other sectors, but now creative practitioners are at the forefront.”

He said the development serves as a strong motivation for younger talents to aim higher and take national service seriously.

Stonebwoy also expressed a personal desire to contribute more meaningfully to national development, stating that he has a lot to offer as a creative professional.

However, he cautioned against favoritism in the distribution of opportunities and urged leaders to promote fairness and merit-based appointments.

“I have a lot of service to render to the nation, and I hope to be actively involved in initiatives,” he added.

The debate surrounding the origin of Afro-Dancehall has been reignited, with industry stakeholders weighing in on the conversation.

At the centre of the debate is Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, who recently claimed to be the originator of the genre.

Now, Karl Kporgla Gidiglo, former Artiste and Business Manager for Stonebwoy, has come out in support of his former client’s claim.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, July 7, Karl stated unequivocally that Stonebwoy coined and championed the term Afro-Dancehall as far back as 2012.

According to Karl, Stonebwoy boldly pioneered the genre.

“Let’s set the record straight: the term Afro-Dancehall was coined and championed by none other than Stonebwoy,” he said.

“He boldly pioneered the genre, blending African rhythms with Dancehall elements at a time when such innovation was met with criticism. Despite facing backlash from some quarters and the likes of Gyedu-Blay Ambolley for what they called ‘diluted Dancehall,’ Stonebwoy stayed true to his vision, helping shape a unique sound that now resonates across the continent and beyond.”

The debate was sparked after Billboard described Moliy’s latest track, Shake It To The Max, as an Afro-Dancehall record. Stonebwoy then took to social media to claim credit for birthing the genre, prompting a response from fellow artiste Samini.

While Samini refused to claim ownership of the term Afro-Dancehall, he emphasised that the genre naturally evolved from what he had long promoted as African Dancehall.

However, Karl, who is now the manager of Dancehall artiste Wakayna, believes Stonebwoy deserves credit for popularising the genre.

“It is, however, unfortunate that we did not take steps to officially patent the name back in 2012 when this movement began. Nonetheless, the legacy and influence are undeniable, and Stonebwoy deserves credit for it,” he stated.

He added that while Samini may have played a role in shaping Stonebwoy’s early sound, it is Stonebwoy who has been instrumental in popularising the genre.

Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, Arathejay said the visit happened shortly before Stonebwoy’s headline concert in London earlier this year.

The show, held on March 8, 2025, at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, featured a lineup of guest artistes, including Arathejay and Fameye, who performed alongside the Bhim Nation President.

Recounting the moment, Arathejay said Stonebwoy came to his home after hearing he was sick—particularly with a leg injury.

“I didn’t even know about it. He didn’t tell me, so I was excited because I was sick. I had this issue with my leg some time ago. And the next moment, Stonebwoy called that he was coming to where I was. The next moment, he was outside—and he was alone,” he said.

Arathejay noted that Stonebwoy didn’t mention anything about the London show during the visit, even though he had already planned to include him.

“That’s just him. That is how he is. That’s the kind of person he is. He said he just wanted to know how I was doing. He wanted to see my leg,” he added.

He said it came as a surprise when he later discovered he had been added to the list of performers for the London concert.

Stonebwoy’s London concert formed part of his UP & RUNNIN6 tour. Arathejay’s inclusion in the show was seen as a major opportunity—and the behind-the-scenes gesture highlighted the genuine relationship between the two artistes.

What began as a cheerful reunion quickly turned emotional as Stonebwoy held nothing back, speaking from the heart about what Samini truly means to him.

“I wish him long life, prosperity, and may his heart’s desires be met in their realist form,” Stonebwoy began, his voice laced with emotion.

He went beyond typical showbiz praise, offering something far deeper—a glimpse into their unbreakable bond forged not just through music, but through life and family.

“He’s a big brother to me, and when I say big brother, I mean it in its real form,” Stonebwoy emphasized. “When somebody is your big brother, it’s deeper than when someone is just someone you work with.”

It was a rare public affirmation from the dancehall icon, often seen as a titan in his own right. But on this night, he was the younger brother, paying homage to the man who gave him a platform, a name, and a foundation.

“Over the years, we have still found the family importance to stick together irrespective,” he added.

The two were contenders for the top award during the 2024 edition of the scheme, but Stonebwoy emerged as the winner. However, the 2025 TGMA competition became even fiercer with King Paluta entering the picture.

This year, King Promise triumphed over Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, Black Sherif, King Paluta, Team Eternity, and Kwaku Smoke to win the most coveted award of the night.

In addition to the Artiste of the Year award, King Promise also claimed the Afropop Song of the Year for “Paris,” Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Album of the Year for True to Self at the 26th edition of the awards.

Stonebwoy, on the other hand, won Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year (for “Psalm 23”), and Best Music Video of the Year.

Other winners on the night included Ayisi, Empress Gifty, Kofi Kinaata, Esther Godwyll, Kweku Smoke, KiDi, Team Eternity Ghana, and Tulenkey.

During her album listening party in Accra, the sultry singer stunned fans when she passionately declared Shatta Wale the “baddest artiste in Ghana.”

The crowd roared as she praised the SM boss, saying his music was unmatched from Teshie to New York.

However, the moment didn’t sit well with everyone, as BHIM fans quickly took to social media, accusing Amaarae of being ungrateful.

According to them, Stonebwoy had long played a key role in introducing her to the Ghanaian music industry, and they expected her loyalty. Some even claimed she was clout-chasing by leaning into the infamous rivalry between the two dancehall giants.

In response, Amaarae took to social media with a plea for calm.

She clarified that she had nothing but love for Stonebwoy, whom she referred to as her “big brother for years.”

She explained that her praise for Shatta Wale came purely in the spirit of the moment, as his hit song “Freedom” had just set the party ablaze. She added that she had also celebrated Efya and Eazzy during the night and would have hyped Stonebwoy too if the DJ had played his music.

Meanwhile, in typical Shatta fashion, he took to social media to thank Amaarae for the love and extended an open call for a musical collaboration.

Stonebwoy, the reigning TGMA Artiste of the Year, believes it is a done deal for him, although he is vying for the TGMA topmost prize again this year against strong contenders, including King Promise, Black Sherif, Kweku Smoke, Joe Mettle, King Paluta, and Team Eternity Ghana.

According to the category’s definition, “The Artiste of the Year is the artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board, and the General Public as the artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the year under review. The artiste(s) must have released a hit single/EP/album and must be one of the artistes with the highest nominations in the year under review.”

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, March 24, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, Head of Public Relations for Burniton Music Group (BMG), the music label of Stonebwoy, explained that with regard to work done in the year under review, the Jiggle and Whine artiste stood tall.

“With regard to the category definition that places premium on the artiste with the highest audience appeal and highest nominations, no one in that category beats Stonebwoy.”

“First, Stonebwoy has three major hits—Psalm 23, Ekelebe, and Jiggle and Whine—on the Up and Runnin6 album, and they have been nominated in various categories in this year’s TGMA. This is a record no artiste in the calendar year can boast of.”

“Imagine a solid 13-track album featuring Wyclef Jean, Spice, Odumodublvck, Ginton IR Sais, Duncan Mighty, and Amaria BB, which has gained popularity not only in Ghana but in the Caribbean and globally.”

“Also, this year, Stonebwoy received eight nominations, making him the highest nominee in this year’s TGMA, and none of his contenders in the AOTY category beats that record.”

“His street credibility is unmatched, and his shows are always sold out—not just in Ghana but also in the UK, where his recent tour proves his appeal beyond our country,” she said.

Ms. Boateng argued that the ongoing debate over whether Stonebwoy should win again, given that he has already won twice, and the suggestion that this year’s bragging rights should go to younger artistes, is unnecessary.

She emphasized that the award is given on merit and cautioned industry players not to be swayed by the fanatical views of artistes’ followers.

“For those saying that he’s won it before, so he should leave it for the youngsters, let them understand that Stonebwoy’s brand is built on hard work and consistency. His consistency has made him the people’s favorite performer and Ghana’s biggest music export. We shouldn’t compromise on consistency just to reward new entrants into the AOTY category,” she stated.

Describing the Artiste of the Year race as a healthy competition, Stonebwoy congratulated the other nominees, noting that such creative competitiveness should be encouraged.

Neither Stonebwoy nor the NDC has officially commented on the development, leaving many to await clarification on the reasons behind the decision.

Reflecting on the challenges that have strained their relationship over the years, Stonebwoy shared that all past misunderstandings have been resolved and affirmed their renewed commitment to working together as a united family.

“Everything that has worked against my big brother—the legend, the superstar—and us will turn around for our good in 2025,” Stonebwoy stated during a performance alongside Samini at the TV3 All White Party.

Players plying their trade in the Ghana Premier League have been given less opportunity to feature in the senior national team.

According to him, the local topflight must serve as a foundation for scouting players for the national team, arguing that sidelining local players undermines the league’s significance.

“It is very important to have local players as part of the building of the national team,” the Afro-dancehall artiste told Asempa Sports.

“The little I understand is that these teams need to be built from the grassroots, and local inclusion is key. We cannot just rely on players called from outside,” he added.

The reigning Artiste of The Year further questioned the relevance of the Ghana Premier League if it does not feed into the national team.

“We have to build a system where we can grow our own. If we cannot fish into the Black Stars from the Ghana Premier League, then what is the use of the Ghana Premier League? It’s very important to include players from Ghana.”

Stonebwoy’s remarks come on the back of long-held discussions about bridging the gap between local and foreign players in the national team setup.

The Black Stars after failing to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament slated to be hosted in Morocco next year will return to international action in March 2025 with games against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with local players hoping to get call-ups.

He emphasized that his main concern is the team’s performance, not who manages the team.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Stonebwoy said, “I can’t tell whether he is the right person or not. The fact I know is there must be someone in charge to drive the vision of the team, which aligns with Ghanaians’ hopes to see the Black Stars excel in international tournaments, including the World Cup.”

He added, “Maybe it’s Otto Addo, maybe it’s not. All Ghanaians, including myself, want victory and success for the Black Stars. That is what matters. I don’t think I have the right to speak on technical decisions, so all I can say is we just want joy from our team.”

Calls for Otto Addo’s dismissal have intensified following Ghana’s poor performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F with only three points, failing to qualify for the tournament for the first time in 20 years.

Despite the outcry, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) appears to back Otto Addo, who submitted a detailed report on his handling of the team.

The GFA reportedly expects the 47-year-old trainer to maintain a strong lead ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers games against Chad and Madagascar.

Otto Addo, who replaced Chris Hughton in March earlier this year is currently on a three-year contract, with an option to extend for another two years.

Reflecting on the performance of the Black Stars in the AFCON qualifiers, Stonebwoy emphasized that leaders must take urgent steps to address the challenges within the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to prevent such setbacks in the future.

“Last AFCON, I was there and I witnessed it, and you can tell I loved and enjoyed it. It’s sad. I can’t believe it. I’m still in disbelief, but that is the reality. This tells you that we have things to work on with the team and the Ghana Football Association.

“I hope that this is taken care of so that next time we make it. At least for the African Cup, Ghana has always had a beautiful team to watch, so I don’t know what the world will be watching now without Ghana. I know they will miss the Ghana team, but it’s unfortunate,” expressed the reigning VGMA Artist of the Year in an interview with Asempa Sports.

This widely criticized disqualification marks the first time in two decades that the four-time African champions have failed to qualify for the continent’s biggest football competition since their absence in 2004.

Outlining her priorities, Joycelyn Andoh highlighted plans to offer scholarships for students from Free SHS backgrounds, provide interest-free loans to market women, and introduce a work-and-pay taxi scheme to empower young drivers.

The Afro-dancehall musician has said in a recent interview that such a remix will not happen.

Stonebwoy has mentioned on Onua TV that a remix of Jejereje song with Skrewfaze will not earn him any commercial gains.

He noted that even though he has planned to do remixes of the song, he will make sure the project does not just satisfy some people’s wish but rather consider what financial benefit, he will rake in from it.

“When the song came out a lot of people mentioned Skrewfaze and he was even happy about it and even did a video. But Portfolio made a statement; the industry is big. Maybe you see it from a fan point of view. But if you break it down, it will just be for the niceness of it. Because already, I have planned to do a lot of remixes.

But [for the Skrewfaze feature] it will not bring any further commercial factor in the geographical location where we find ourselves. If I had called him for a feature it would just be for the niceness.

I have heard people talking about the fact that I should have a remix of the Jejereje song with Skrewfaze. It is a good idea but adding him to the song will not add any commercial factor to the song. It would only be for its niceness,” he said.

He added that he does not solely take decisions on who to put on his songs; there is a whole management that is involved.

Stonebwoy further intimated that just a lot of artistes jumped on the song and did their renditions, he believes Skrewfaze could have done same without being contacted by Stonebwoy or his team.

“If that [the song] sparks the energy of a legend, the easiest thing to do is to do a version on the beat in that moment if you wanted to because it is just a week less, we were not going to now reach out. I think I commented and reposted,” he noted.

Stonebwoy’s thought on the remix is in tandem with a similar opinion which was shared by Master of Ceremonies and media personality MC Portfolio a few weeks ago when the song was released.

When the song was released in September 2024, Skrewfaze did a live video suggesting that some of his fans had asked him to add his verse to the song. However, he thought as a “legend”, Stonebwoy had to call him if he needed him on the song.

Skrewfaze’s name came up strongly in the remix conversations because Stonebwoy’s Jejereje which features guitarist Ginton, bears a striking likeness to Skrewfazes type of songs.

The Gbalagazaa hit maker who has been in the music industry for over two decades, is known for such high tempo Francophone induced songs.

He also known for other songs such as Bue Bue, Maabena, Ogogologo, Too Fast, among others.

During his electrifying set, Stonebwoy spotted a young boy, a die-hard BHIM fan, who was beside himself with excitement and showcasing impressive dance moves.

In a heartwarming moment, Stonebwoy invited the enthusiastic lad on stage for a lively dance battle that had the audience roaring with delight.

This year’s Kolor Paaty is proudly powered by LaVonce and U-Fresh, with support from Jamaa, DBS Industries, Franko Trading, and De-Ray Man Bitters.

In a recent fashion interview, the BHIM Nation president remarked that his Jamaican-inspired vibe often leads Ghanaians to believe he is from the Caribbean.

As a prominent figure in the dancehall scene, Stonebwoy has worked with some of Jamaica’s top artists, including Morgan Heritage and Sean Paul.

In a past interview, he revealed that he has collaborated with over 47 artists, with more projects still unreleased. This, he believes, has gained him acceptance on Jamaican soil, leading Ghanaians to increasingly relate to him as such.

When asked about his essential fashion items, Stonebwoy listed chains, shades, hats, teeth grills, and sneakers as his must-haves.

He also shared that his favorite Ghanaian dish is banku with okro stew, which balances his international style with a deep connection to his roots.

In a series of videos, Funny Face accused Stonebwoy of sabotaging his relationship with Togolese football star Emmanuel Adebayor, alleging that the musician is trying to steal his spotlight.

Funny Face claimed that while Adebayor once considered giving Stonebwoy a car, he ultimately chose to give him a bike instead, insinuating that Stonebwoy’s negative influence led to this decision.

He referred to Stonebwoy as a “cripple” and suggested that the ongoing tension with fellow artist Shatta Wale stems from Shatta’s awareness of Stonebwoy’s true character.

In his tirade, Funny Face recalled how he supported Stonebwoy financially during his early career, lamenting that the artist has disrespected him now that his own situation has deteriorated.

Despite his recent discharge from the psychiatric facility, which was meant to help with his bipolar disorder, Funny Face’s outbursts indicate that he continues to struggle with his mental health.

Stonebwoy has yet to respond to the accusations.

In addition to the coveted Artiste of the Year title, the ‘Manodzi’ hitmaker also took home awards for Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Album of the Year.
