He revealed that the statue will soon be re-erected at its original location, the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout in Sekondi.

The original monument, which was mounted in recognition of President Akufo-Addo’s contributions to the development of the Western Region, was mysteriously dismantled by unknown persons shortly after the 2024 general elections.

Prophet Joshua, who had earlier pledged to restore the statue, condemned the act, describing it as an example of political intolerance that should not be encouraged.

Speaking on Takoradi-based Connect FM, he explained that preparations for the reinstallation are far advanced.

“The main reason why the statue was removed was because they claimed the road was not completed. Now, the road is done, and there should be no objection to reinstalling it,” he said.

He further disclosed that the roundabout and base where the statue once stood remain intact and that formal approval will soon be sought from regional authorities before the installation.

“The new statue has been molded, and we’ll consult the regional leaders for their consent before reinstalling it,” he added.

While no specific date has been announced, Prophet Joshua assured that the restored statue of former President Akufo-Addo will soon return to its original site.

We were misled on Akufo-Addo statue unveiling – Lower Dixcove chief reveals https://www.adomonline.com/we-were-misled-on-akufo-addo-statue-unveiling-lower-dixcove-chief-reveals/ Sat, 25 Jan 2025 19:06:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2497164 The Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Akwasi Agyeman IV, has refuted claims made by former Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, suggesting that the chiefs of the Western Region funded the controversial statue of former President Akufo-Addo, which was placed in front of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi.

The statue was unveiled during Akufo-Addo’s thank-you tour of the region in November 2024.

Speaking to a Takoradi-based radio station, Nana Akwasi Agyeman, who was present at the unveiling, clarified that he was unaware of the statue’s existence and had been ambushed by Okyere Darko Mensah to participate in the event.

“I promised not to comment on the statue issue due to the widespread insults we chiefs have received. But I, Nana Akwasi Agyeman, can confirm that the chiefs of the Western Region did not fund the statue,” he stated.

The chief emphasized that no chief contributed financially to the construction of the statue. “If any chief contributed, I am yet to know,” he said, adding that the chiefs never met as a House of Chiefs to discuss or approve the statue in honor of the former President.

Nana Akwasi Agyeman further described how he was caught off guard by Okyere Darko Mensah and involved in the unveiling of the statue.

“We were invited to attend the former President’s thank-you tour, and we met him at the GNAT Hall. It was there that Okyere Darko Mensah asked me to join them in presenting a gift to the President, and we would head to Effia-Nkwanta Hospital. It was only upon arrival that I learned it was a statue. I didn’t even know it was a statue,” he explained.

He added that seven Paramount Chiefs attended the event, and it was there that he was informed that he would help unveil the statue.

“Honestly, I didn’t want to participate, but I didn’t want to create a scene, so I stayed quiet. We unveiled the statue and were asked to speak in honor of the President. I thanked him personally, not on behalf of the chiefs of the Western Region, as he had visited me in the hospital after my 2019 attack,” he said.

The statue of Akufo-Addo, which sparked controversy due to public dissatisfaction over his perceived minimal contribution to the region’s development, was destroyed by unknown individuals on January 13, 2025, following widespread backlash.

He declared that the defacing could have profound negative effects on the Sekondi/Takoradi area and the larger Western Region.

In an interview, Prophet Joshua chastised the vandals, calling their actions disrespectful and divisive.

He urged the government to issue a stern warning against such behavior, cautioning that failure to act could lead to more widespread issues.

He further warned that anyone who dares to vandalize the new statue he plans to erect would bring curses upon themselves.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, observers noticed a gaping hole at the back of one of the statue’s legs.

The cause of the damage remains unknown.

However, some speculate it may be an act of vandalism by individuals who had previously threatened to pull down the monument, others suggest the damage could result from structural flaws.

Damaged Akufo Addo statue

The statue was unveiled by President Akufo-Addo during his Western Region tour ahead of the 2024 general elections.

It was intended to commemorate major projects initiated during his administration, including the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of the 3-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle.

However, the statue has been a source of controversy since its installation.

Many residents criticized its relevance, arguing that the funds used could have been better allocated to address pressing local issues, such as improving healthcare infrastructure at the hospital itself.

Before this incident, factions within the community had openly voiced their disapproval of the statue, with some threatening to destroy it, deeming it a symbol of misplaced priorities.

Authorities is yet to release an official statement on the matter, and investigations are expected to determine the cause of the damage.

Akufo-Addo’s self-commissioned statue is shocking – Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/akufo-addos-self-commissioned-statue-is-shocking-mahama/ Fri, 08 Nov 2024 16:34:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2470032 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo’s recent unveiling of a statue of himself near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi.

Unveiled on November 6 during President Akufo-Addo’s one-day “thank you” tour of the Western Region, the statue has sparked public discussion and controversy.

Mahama questioned the intent behind erecting the statue, suggesting that it reflects self-praise rather than a sincere recognition of accomplishments.

In response, the Western Regional Minister defended the statue, noting that it honors President Akufo-Addo’s contributions to the region, including the rehabilitation of Effia Nkwanta Hospital, the construction of the Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of Takoradi Market Circle.

However, Mahama argues that the statue seems more like self-glorification than a celebration of impactful regional achievements.

Speaking at a campaign event in the Central Region on Friday, November 8, Mahama said, “Trial and error normally ends in failure; Akufo-Addo said we should try him, we tried him, and he failed. As if he cares. He went to Takoradi to commission a statue of himself—have you heard of this before? As a leader, you need others to commend your work, not yourself.”

“He even convinced all universities to confer honorary doctorates on him while still in office. How? I don’t know where he’s taking those doctorates. You should complete your tenure and let the universities confer awards based on your achievements.”

The unveiling was part of his one-day “thank you” tour of the Western Region on Wednesday, November 6.

Addressing residents, President Akufo-Addo highlighted his administration’s accomplishments, noting that he has fulfilled 80 percent of his promises to Ghanaians.

He urged voters to support Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 general elections, stating that a vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer would enable the continuation of his administration’s policies and initiatives.

The President also described the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy as his most significant legacy, citing its transformative impact nationwide.

Commenting on the statue’s unveiling, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah said the monument honours the President’s contributions to the region.

He highlighted key projects, including the rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of a three-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle, all spearheaded under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reveals 7ft ‘Roman’ statue of wife https://www.adomonline.com/meta-ceo-mark-zuckerberg-reveals-7ft-roman-statue-of-wife/ Wed, 14 Aug 2024 23:44:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2434079 Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg turned heads Wednesday when he posted an image of his wife Priscilla Chan standing next to a large silver and blue statue sculpted in her likeness.

The statue – which stands about 7ft (2.1m) tall – was commissioned by the CEO of Facebook’s parent company in an effort to honour “the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife”, Mr Zuckerberg wrote on Instagram.

New York-based artist Daniel Arsham crafted the sculpture, which was placed under a tree in what appears to be a residential garden.

The figure’s striking colour and towering size sent the internet buzzing with comparisons to the Avatar characters and jokes about Mr Zuckerberg’s identity as a so-called “wife guy”.

In the photo, the real Ms Chan is seen sipping from a mug in the same light blue colour of the statue. She commented on her husband’s Instagram reveal of the artwork, saying, “The more of me the better?” along with a heart emoji.

A sculpted silver garment looks like it is draped over and flowing behind the teal woman.

According to the National Museums Liverpool, statues in ancient Rome were often made to honour deceased loved ones or “to refer to significant relatives and to make meaningful associations”.

Zuckerberg and Chan have been married since 2012 and have three daughters.

Five-time NBA champion Bryant died aged 41 in a helicopter crash, alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others, in 2020.

His bronze statue, standing at 19ft and weighing 4,000lb, is situated outside the Lakers’ home, the Crypto.com Arena.

It shows Bryant, who played for the Lakers his entire career, in his famous number eight jersey.

“This statue may look like Kobe, but really, it’s what excellence looks like,” said Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was joined at the unveiling by fellow Lakers legends Magic Johnson, Jerry West and Derek Fisher.

Former head coach Phil Jackson and Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, were also in attendance.

“As I see today’s current generation of star players follow in Kobe’s footsteps with huge scoring games, I know he would take pride in knowing that he is still pouring inspiration into the game that was so special to him,” Vanessa Bryant said.

“I leave you with one of my husband’s amazing quotes,” she added. “‘Leave the game better than you found it and when it comes time for you to leave, leave a legend.’ And that he did.”

The statue is the first of three that will honour Bryant, with another set to feature him in his number 24 jersey, while the third will depict Bryant and Gianna.

NAM1 deserves a statue – Bulldog https://www.adomonline.com/nam1-deserves-a-statue-bulldog/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 16:42:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2171472 The former Artistes and Repertoire manager for the defunct Zylofon Music, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bulldog, says Menzgold and Zylofon CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1, deserves to be honoured with a statue in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM’s U Say Wetin show, Bulldog said NAM1’s dream of projecting Ghana’s music beyond the borders matches none in the industry.

He explained that the Zylofon CEO’s signage of A-list artistes and promoting their brand on the international level shows clearly that he had better plans for the industry.

According to Bulldog, NAM1 was determined to put Ghana at the forefront when it comes to music globally until his Menzgold saga took him out of place.

“Zylofon was responsible for those international plugs… I was head of Zylofon as the CEO of Zylofon Music. Shatta came to meet me at Zylofon and we signed him on and there was a deliberate attempt to push every Zylofon act… check Shatta Wale’s Gringo. Have you seen anything like that in the history of Ghana?” Bulldog queried.

“Apart from the fact that I lost my funds with Menzgold, no record label had come like Zylofon. He bought cars and houses and gave them money. NAM1 deserves a statue in Ghana for what he did for the entertainment space.

“All these numbers these boys are running would have been done way before. Here we are, we had to cut our own trees down and let foreign ones grow.”

New Juaben Traditional Council pulls down ‘offensive’ statue https://www.adomonline.com/new-juaben-traditional-council-pulls-down-offensive-statue/ Thu, 25 Mar 2021 12:02:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1938765 The New Juaben Traditional Council has pulled down a statue it describes as ‘offensive and dirty trick’ erected at the Prince Boateng Roundabout near the Koforidua  Omanhene’s palace in the Eastern Region.

According to the Traditional Council, the statue named ‘Prince Emmanuel Yao Boateng’ was erected by his children without authorisation.

An action the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council, Daasebre Prof Emeritus Oti Boateng, has described as gross disrespect to the Yiadom Hwedie stool.

The Council said the decision to forcibly pull down the statue follows the failure by the children of the late Oheneba Yao Boateng to remove the statue as promised when summoned on February 5, 2021 by the traditional council.

“The Children have also on two different occasions, on 5th March and 19th March 2021 respectively, refused to honour specific request by the traditional council to attend its meetings on the issue.

“It has emerged that Oheneba Yao Boateng’s children have produced and widely distributed a video of the ‘offensive’ statue in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Ghana.

“The Traditional Council is in possession of a copy of the video which is totally repugnant to the history and sensibilities of the chiefs and people of New Juaben,” the Traditional Council said in a statement released.

The Traditional Council contended that the late Mr Boateng is not a royal from the Yiadom Hwedie family but derived his status from the fact that his father was Nana Kwaku Boateng I, who reigned as Omanhene of New Juaben from 1913 to 1930.

“One would have expected the children of Oheneba Yao Boateng, who erected the statue, to exercise due diligence and circumspection by first considering their grandfather, Nana Kwaku Boateng I, for the honour rather than his son and their father,” it said.

The inscription Prince Emmanuel Yao Boateng instead of Oheneba Yao Boateng boldly on the said statue is also considered very offensive to the Akan customary practice and usage. From the matrifocal analysis of the Akan kingship structure, Oheneba Boateng, whose mother is not Akan, is also not Akan.

ALSO READ:

“The said inscription is, therefore, a dirty trick that Oheneba Yao Boateng belongs to the Yiadom Hwedie Royal lineage without the pertinent blood of consanguinity,“ it said.

The New Juaben Traditional Council further stated that the late Boateng did not do anything tangibly significant to merit a statue in his honour in such a vantage area.

According to the Traditional Council, it had already earmarked the very spot for erecting the statue of Nana Kwaku Boateng I, to commemorate his unique contribution as the Omanhene who built the New Juaben Palace.

To him, it is about time some sportsmen receive accolades for putting Ghana on the map after years of toil and statues won’t be a bad idea.

He suggested that a museum should be created to house the sculptures for memorial purposes.

Ghana, he added, must celebrate the Abedi Peles, Anthony Yeboahs to the Stephen Appiahs like Argentina did for Maradona and Brazil for world Pele.

He made the suggestion in a birthday post to Abedi Pele who has blessed the Black Stars with his three sons; Ibrahim, Dede and Jordan Ayew.
