This follows the government’s failure to honour their demands for better service conditions after a series of protests and negotiations.

Members of the association are expected to withdraw all their services in all public universities of the country effective Monday September 16, 2024.

According to the group, the government failed to meet their September 16 deadline in implementing their demands despite reaching an agreement.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, George Ansong, the group indicated that the government reneged on paying them the new rate of vehicle maintenance and related allowances.

They further state that government failed to release their tier 2 deductions to their fund managers since January 2024 as well as recalculating interests on pension allowances from 2010 to 2016.

In January 2024, the association together with other worker unions in universities embarked on a nationwide industrial action over the listed demands.

They rescinded the strike after the government promised to honour their side of the negotiations.

All administrative offices including libraries on campuses of public universities and their hospital and security facilities are expected to be closed on the day.

The national leadership of the group say they are not ready to call off the strike until they demands are met.

“Therefore, it is hereby directed that all member campuses adhere to this directive strictly,” the statement concluded.

3 teacher unions to strike on August 9 over non-payment of allowance https://www.adomonline.com/3-teacher-unions-to-strike-on-august-9-over-non-payment-of-allowance/ Tue, 06 Aug 2024 07:20:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2429701 Three unions have announced plans to commence industrial action on August 9, 2024, if the Ministry of Finance does not authorize the payment of agreed allowances by August 8, 2024.

The unions involved in this potential strike are the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), the Federation of Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSSAG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC).

These groups have expressed concerns over the Finance Ministry’s delay in issuing a letter to effect the payment of the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (VMA) and other related allowances.

In a statement dated Monday, August 5, the unions issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding that the allowances be settled by August 8, or they would embark on a strike the following day.

They emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting their frustration with the government’s inaction.

The unions accused the government of employing Machiavellian tactics to deny them their rightful dues.

They stressed that their patience had worn thin and that they were prepared to take necessary action to ensure their demands are met.

The unions reiterated their commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of their members, urging the government to act swiftly to avoid disruption.

They called on the Ministry of Finance to honour its commitments and avoid the impending industrial action.

“The Unions have given the government (Ministry) up to the close of work on Thursday, August 8, to release the letter. Failure to do so will result in the Unions being forced to take industrial action on the 9th of August 2024. The SSA-UoG, FUSSAG, and TEWU (TUC) are committed to fighting for the rights of their members and will not rest until justice is served.”

“The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has done what is needed by writing to the Ministry of Finance for payment to be effected. We have tried to engage the Ministry on several occasions to release a letter to that effect so our members could be paid, but the Ministry has refused,” an excerpt of their statement said.

Senior Staff Association of Universities unable to meet NLC https://www.adomonline.com/senior-staff-association-of-universities-unable-to-meet-nlc/ Thu, 18 Jan 2024 12:32:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2343482 The Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has asked the National Labour Commission (NLC) to reschedule a meeting which was set for Thursday, January 18, 2024.

The request according to the Association has been necessitated by an emergency with the National Executives Council (NEC) on the same day.

In a statement, SSA-UoG noted it did not receive the NLC’s summons on time and at the moment all NEC members are out of town.

They have therefore proposed for the meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

NLC’s summons is on the back of a nationwide strike declaration by SSA-UoG on Wednesday.

The indefinite action according to them is in protest of the government’s persistent disregard for the welfare of the senior staff, particularly concerning critical issues of pensions and condition of service.

Below is the statement on NLC’s summons:

SSA-UoG serves notice of industrial action over government’s disregard for staff pension https://www.adomonline.com/ssa-uog-serves-notice-of-industrial-action-over-governments-disregard-for-staff-pension/ Fri, 05 Jan 2024 07:13:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2338764 The Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has issued a warning of potential industrial action if the government fails to address the outstanding tier-2 Pension contributions for its members.

According to a statement released by Isaac Donkoh, the National President of the Association, the government is urged to promptly settle all outstanding debts and contributions, inclusive of the appropriate interest from February to December 2023.

This payment should adhere to the three percent penalty rates specified in the Pension’s Act, Act 766 section 64.

Mr. Donkoh emphasized that failing to comply with these financial obligations would lead the Union to initiate a withdrawal of services across all university campuses starting from Monday, January 15th, 2024.

Additionally, the statement called for the immediate retraction of letters dated November 7 and 20, 2023, from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), respectively.

These letters were criticized for unlawfully eliminating overtime allowances for senior staff members.
