Razak, also known as Nii Atofotse, a labourer, was remanded before sentencing.

He was given five years’ imprisonment in hard labour for the threat of death after admitting the offences.

Razak was convicted on his own plea, having initially denied the charges.

The Court, presided over by Justice Enid Marful-Sau, a High Court Judge with additional duties at the Circuit Court, sentenced Razak, 55, to 20 years for defilement, five years for threat of death, and three years for stealing.

The five and three-year sentences are to run concurrently, while the 20-year term runs consecutively.

Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru told the Court that the complainant, a trader, is a guardian to the victim, a Junior High School student.

He said Razak lives at Manhean. The complainant and the victim’s parents are neighbours in Accra.

The prosecution said the victim often stayed with the complainant due to his parents’ busy schedules.

On January 7, 2025, at about 1300 hours, the victim was sent to deliver a laptop and charger to a brother.

While at home, the complainant received a call from the victim’s father, who said the boy had damaged someone’s car and the person was demanding GH¢500 or would take him to Adabraka Police Station.

He asked the complainant to assist at the station.

The Court heard that the complainant went to the Police Station but did not find the victim.

He returned home and searched the area but did not see the victim or the caller.

Later, the victim returned home and, when questioned, told the complainant that on his way back from delivering the laptop and charger, Razak approached him and asked if the charger was for a phone.

The victim said it was for a laptop; the prosecution told the Court.

He said Razak then pulled a knife from his pocket, lured him into an unfinished building at Odumase and asked for his parents’ phone number.

He used to call the victim’s father and demanded GH¢500 from him.

Razak also forced the victim to tell the father that he had smashed his car, after which he asked the minor to perform oral sex on him.

According to the prosecution, Razak then sat on a cement block in the unfinished building and attempted to push his erect manhood into the victim’s anus but was unsuccessful.

Razak forced the victim to stoop and sodomised him.

After the act, Razak collected the laptop charger from the victim, searched the victim’s pocket, and stole GH¢50 from him, the Court heard.

Razak threatened the victim, saying the three marks on his arm would reveal his actions, and warned he would kill him if he told anyone.

The Court later heard that Razak took the victim to a nearby store, bought him a drink and sachet water, and then left him.

The prosecution said that on March 5, 2025, Razak was spotted in front of the victim’s school. The victim raised an alarm, leading to Razak’s arrest, and the complainant was notified.

During investigations at the Amasaman Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit, it was discovered that Razak had been involved in a similar case in March 2017 and was released from Nsawam Prison in November 2024.

The prosecution said a police medical report form was issued to the complainant, who took the victim for examination and treatment.

On March 7, 2025, the form was received. Based on this, Razak was cautioned, and after further investigations, he was arraigned.

The caller allegedly demanded GH¢500.00, threatening to report the incident to the Adabraka Police Station if the money was not paid.

The complainant was instructed to go to the police station to assist the victim.

The court heard that the complainant complied and went to the police station, but did not find the victim there.

The complainant then returned home and searched the entire area but was unable to locate either the victim or the caller.

Later, the victim returned home and, when questioned, revealed to the complainant that Razak had approached him while he was on his way back after delivering the laptop computer and charger.

According to the prosecution, Razak asked whether the charger the victim was carrying was a phone charger, and the victim clarified that it was a laptop charger.

Razak then pulled a knife from his pocket, lured the victim into an unfinished building at Odumase, and asked for the victim’s parents’ phone number.

He used the number to call the victim’s father and demanded GH¢500 from him.

Razak also threatened the victim with the knife, forcing him to tell his father that he had indeed damaged his car.

He then ordered the victim to perform oral sex on him.

The prosecution further stated that after becoming erect, Razak sat on a cement block in the uncompleted building and commanded the victim to sit on his manhood.

When the victim attempted to have anal sex with him, he was unable to penetrate.

Razak then made the victim bend over and inserted his finger in the boy’s anus for some time before forcing his manhood into the victim’s rear to engage in anal sex.

After the act, Razak took the laptop charger from the victim, searched his pockets, and stole GH¢50.00.

The prosecution also reported that Razak threatened the victim, saying there were three marks on his arm and that if the victim informed anyone about the incident, the marks would reveal it to him, and he would come after the victim to kill him.

Later, the court heard that Razak took the victim to a nearby provision store, where he bought a drink and sachet water for him before leaving.

The prosecution stated that on March 5, 2025, Razak was spotted near the victim’s school.

The victim raised the alarm, leading to Razak’s arrest. The complainant was promptly informed.

The court was told that during investigations at the Amasaman Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Razak was found to have been involved in a similar crime in March 2017.

He was freed from Nsawam Prison in November 2024.

The prosecution stated that a Police medical report form was issued to the complainant to facilitate the victim’s hospital examination, treatment, and subsequent report.

On March 7, 2025, the endorsed medical report form was submitted by the complainant.

Following this, the accused was cautioned and later arraigned after thorough investigations.

Sources say the suspect, Joshua Benson lives in the same vicinity with the victim and is well-known to his family.

Per reports gathered, the suspect lures the children with gifts and coerce them into having sexual relations with him.

After sodomizing the victim, he reportedly threatened him not to tell anyone but the victim, who was in severe pain informed his parents.

The victim parents reported the issue to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit [DOVVSU] and he was promptly arrested.

It was further revealed that, more children in the vicinity has suffered same fate.

Adom News correspondent, Seth Kofi Adjei who filed the report said the suspect will be arraigned on Tuesday, February 26.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge, and the court presided over by Hathia Ama Manu sentenced him.

After realising that he was going to spend the next 20 years in prison, Koduah remarked, “I do not know what was happening to me, and I do not know if I can be given any help.”

Prosecuting, Supt. Juliana Essel-Dadzie mentioned that Koduah stayed at Gyantekrom while the complainant (name withheld) is a 30-year-old unemployed.

She told the court that both the convict and the complainant resided in the Prestea, Huni-Valley Municipality.

She said about five months ago, the complainant and Koduah met at Gyantekrom, became friends, and exchanged contacts.

A few days later, the convict gave the complainant a call and asked him to come to his house so he could help him get a job.

The complainant accepted and visited the convict at his home on November 14, 2023.

According to the prosecutor, Koduah asked the complainant to wait for him, while he attended nature’s call.

The complainant did not know what happened to him, but became unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he discovered that his penis was in Koduah’s mouth and had discharged sperms.

The complainant, who was shocked at what has happened, slapped the convict and managed to run from the convict’s room and reported the case to the Police at the Aboso Police Station.

Koduah was subsequently arrested to assist in the investigation.

Supt. Essel-Dadzie added that the convict admitted the offence in his caution statement and attributed it to his intense sexual desire for men.

Isaac Tettey, 36, is reported to have pleaded not guilty to three charges of incest, defilement and unnatural canal knowledge of his daughter.

As part of his bail condition, he is to produce three sureties two of whom are to be justified with landed property.

The court presided over by Christiana Cann has directed the prosecution led by DSP Agnes Boafo to file disclosures within 14 days.

Presenting the case, the prosecution said the complainant is a 13-year-old victim (name withheld) who has stayed with her father [the suspect], for the past five years at Kaneshie near Dansoman station.

According to the prosecutor, throughout those years the suspect who is a trader slept on the same bed with the victim. However, in 2021, the victim felt an unusual feeling.

When the victim woke up, DSP Boafo told the court she saw the suspect having sexual intercourse with her through her anus.

The Prosecutor said, the suspect continued having sex with the victim through her anus and vagina until May 2022, when the victim’s aunty detected an anomaly in how she walked.

DSP Boafo said Aunty Gladys questioned the victim and that is where the 13-year-old narrated her ordeal.

Upon hearing the news, the aunty confronted the suspect but he denied the allegation.

DSP Boafo said the victim started avoiding her father by sleeping with her aunty or her grandmother. But the suspect took offence.

The Prosecutor said, the suspect will either insult the victim or beat her without any act of provocation because she refused to sleep in the suspect’s room.

“On September 22, at about 6:30 pm, the suspect beat the victim and she came to Kaneshie DOVVSU [Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit] and reported the case.

“Suspect was arrested for investigation. Police medical report form was issued in the name of the victim to be taken to hospital for examination, treatment and endorsement of the form by police,” the Prosecutor told the court.

After hearing the proceedings granted the suspect bail and adjourned the case to October 18, 2022

The victim claims the act had been going on for about two years.

Information gathered by Adom News‘ Kofi Adjei indicated the evangelist allegedly sought permission from the victim’s parents to live with him only to allegedly turn him into his ‘sex object’ under the guise of cleansing him from a spiritual problem.

The victim said he had been quiet about the act because of alleged threats.

He, however, opened up to his mother after he fell ill.

The mother, Millicent Yeboah, who was drowned in tears, has called on the police to conduct thorough investigations and have the perpetrator punished.

The suspect, Frederick Darko, is expected to appear before the Ofaakor Circuit Court.

The suspects have been identified as John Amoah, 28; Frederick Nyarko, 42, and John Ofori, 45.

They have been remanded into prison custody and are expected to appear before the Court on April 21, 2022.

The Regional Police Public Affairs Unit confirmed this in a statement, adding efforts were underway to arrest the fourth person to assist with investigations.

“The Police Command is appealing to the general public that anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the fourth suspect, Kojo, should go to the nearest Police station and assist with investigations or call Toll Free number 18555.

“The Command is assuring the general public that it will continue to protect life and property by enforcing the law,” the statement appealed.

She has, therefore, called on the Police to prosecute the suspects and arrest the remaining suspect for justice to be served to her daughter.

According to the victim, one of his attackers on Thursday evening sent her to buy him some stuff and upon her return, he asked her to come into the room and drop the item.

She said just as she innocently made her way into the room, the trio forcibly dragged her, defiled, and sodomised her.

Two others, who were in the room, also sexually assaulted her in turns.

The suspects then warned her not to disclose her ordeal to anyone else they’ll kill her.

Out of fear, she also kept quiet until blood started oozing from her vagina before her parents questioned her and she confessed she’s been gang defiled.

Three of the four suspects were subsequently arrested by police at Abura Dunkwa.

Information gathered by Adom News‘ Kofi Adjei suggests the suspect was apprehended by some irate youth of Gomoa Buduatta.

The victim is said to have alerted his friends to clandestinely follow them after the pastor contacted him for them to meet.

They first moved to an uncompleted building to carry out the act but the victim declined and asked they move to the suspect’s house instead.

Narrating how he got his friends involved, he indicated he [the victim] recorded their conversations and gave them out to his friends.

He later told them he will use a cough to signal them once the pastor initiates the act in his room, an idea the friends bought into.

The victim said when he entered the pastor’s room, the latter immediately undressed and asked the victim to bend for him during which he coughed for his friends to force the door open and enter.

The pastor has since been handed over to the Gomoa Dominase Police Command with investigations underway.

The District Police Commander, DSP Osei Foffie, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect was brought in at about 10:30 pm on Sunday.

Despite church members being in denial and yet to come to terms with the pastor’s act, he is expected to be put before the Ofaakor Circuit Court once investigations are completed.

Recounting his ordeal, the victim said the suspect, who is a class two teacher at Nyinase Catholic Basic school, succeeded in convincing him to spend the night with him in his room.

According to him, the suspect came with an explanation that his sisters have returned from Accra and so it has become necessary for them to use his room.

The victim, who had already received free alcohol from the suspect, granted the request which ended up in him being sodomised in the night.

He added that due to his age he couldn’t fight the suspect but shouted for people in the house to come and rescue him.

The Twifo Ati-Morkwa District Director of Education Anthony Takyi confirmed the incident.

He said a complaint has been received from the suspect and the directorate is assisting the police to get hold of the suspect who is currently on the run.

Mr Takyi also indicated the suspect’s family requested a secret transfer for him but the directorate declined.

The head of Kwahu West Social Welfare department, Victor Fayi, said on the 5th of November 2021, officers went to the field after they had information that a young man in the community who is a barber was sexually abusing school children.

According to Mr Fayi, with the help of the Assembly Members and Opinion Leaders, Amponsah was arrested.

He added that ten other pupils came to report the same issue after the arrest of the suspect.

He was on Monday, November 15, 2021, taken to the Mpraeso Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty and was jailed for 114 years.

The judge pronounced the suspect is to serve 10 years each for the 10 kids he sodomized and serve seven years each for two other boys.

The complainant in the case is the assembly member for Fomena Electoral Area while the victim and the convict, a mason all live in the electoral area.

The Prosecutor, Detective Sergeant Isaac Ofori Mensah, told the court that two weeks ago, while the victim was assisting the attendant at the public lavatory facility in the community, the convict approached the victim to solicit anal sex with him but was turned down.

The convict pestered the victim and promised to give him money ostensibly to entice him.

The victim told his senior brother about his encounter.

On October 10, 2021, at about 8:00 am, the convict went to the victim again, lured him, and removed his penis for the 16-year-old to suck.

The victim became scared and escaped from him but the convict pursued him to a nearby plantain farm and attempted to entice the victim with a total of Ghc30 if he agreed.

The convict left and told the victim that he will be back in the evening.

The senior brother of the victim informed the assembly member who together with some members of the unit committee and the neighbourhood watchdog committee laid an ambush.

At about 9:00 pm, the convict appeared at the public lavatory facility as promised, the victim pretended to have agreed to his demand.

The victim took the accused to the chamber of the lavatory facility but was arrested by the people who had laid ambush shortly after he went half-naked, removed the penis, and attempted to have anal sex with the victim.

He was handed over to the Police. A Ghc10 used to lure the victim was retrieved and also given to the police as an exhibit.

After investigation, he was charged on October 20, 2021, with the attempt to commit a criminal offence to wit unnatural carnal knowledge contrary to sections 18 and 104 (1)(a) of the Criminal offences Act which the court found him guilty.

The two are Daniel Arthur, 25, and Clinton Adofo, 39.

The police said the boy reported that he went to sleep in suspect Adofo’s house and at about 1:00 am, he felt an unusual penetration in his anus.

He woke up to see suspect Adofo, a football coach, and his friend, Mr Arthur penetrating him with their manhood on which they applied cream for easy penetration.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the two have been charged with unnatural carnal knowledge.

They have since been arraigned and granted bail at the Domestic Violence Court Number 5 in Accra.

The two are still in police custody due to their inability to meet their bail conditions.

The case has since been adjourned to November 8, 2021.

The charges were that on diverse dates between October 2020 and January 16, 2021 at Sinambio village Mpeketoni sub-county within Lamu county, Kenya, the Pastor intentionally and unlawfully sodomized the minor aged 17 years.

The prosecutors added that “afterwards he would reward him with a Ksh20 coin and threaten him that he would kill him if he told people about it.”

He was further slapped with an additional count of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section1(1) of the sexual offences act no 3 of 2006.

Muchine was accused of sodomizing the minor who is of unsound mind several times in his house and in the bushes, and in all those instances he would ask him to remove his clothes, lie on his stomach, apply anointing oil on his buttocks and then penetrate him.

Ruling on the case, Mpeketoni Resident Magistrate Pascal Nabwana noted that the minor’s claim was corroborated by his 10-year-old brother, who according to court was a star truthful witness.

The brother said that he always knew and witnessed the sodomy ordeals, but the victim had warned him not to tell anyone.

Nabwana noted that even though the accused portrayed himself as a servant of God, he ‘supposedly’ refused to tender his evidence upon taking an oath.

The magistrate said “The accused is found guilty of the offence of defilement, contrary to section 8(1) as read with section 8(4)of the sexual offences act number 3 of 2006, the accused is therefore convicted of the same under section 215 of the criminal procedure code(CPC)cap 75 of the laws of Kenya.

“The minor in his testimony alleged that the accused defiled him severally since April 2020 culminating with the last incidence on January 6, 2021. In one of the incidents, the younger brother witnessed the ordeal which happened inside the pastors’ house.

Mr Didas Mpagi, alias Bakulu, who was the headmaster of Real Infant Primary School in Wakiso District when he committed the offences between 2018 and 2019, was on Friday told by court that he would spend the rest of his natural life behind bars for sodomising at least 13 pupils.

Justice David Wangutusi said Mr Mpagi would serve his sentences concurrently.

Investigations into the case commenced when concerned residents tipped off the police. When the investigation ran its course, it was reportedly established that Mr Mpagi was not only a headmaster at the school, but also a warden for the male pupils.

It was also revealed that he was sleeping in the same dormitory with his victims who were all male and that he sexually exploited them at night.

The investigations also showed that Mr Mpagi cherry-picked his victims from families which were economically weak. He is said to have targeted them to stay in the boarding section of the school for his own carnal pleasures, promising to get them sponsors and scholarships.

Prosecution further told court that once the children were in his school and dormitory, Mr Mpagi threatened to stop paying their school fees or cancel their scholarship if they did not obey his commands.

“The victims revealed that they were required to spend some nights in the accused’s bed and whilst there, the victims were required to sleep naked.

“The accused would massage their bodies, including the penis. The accused would then fondle the genitals of victims with his fingers, and thereafter he would practice oral and anal sex on them,” the indictment read in part.

Prosecution contended that Mr Mpagi held out monetary benefits with the intention of making his victims submissive and sex slaves. It further said Mr Mpagi — who was found to be 28 years and of sound mind — created a sense of insecurity among his victims.

The suspect, Natomah Otabel, was arrested in the early hours of Monday, September 27 following a complaint lodged by some family members of the victims.

The teacher has been teaching in that community for the past three years.

It is still unclear why the teacher allegedly engaged in that act but sources close to the school say this might not be his first time.

Police in Salaga have commenced investigations into the matter.

The victims are expected to be transported to the Salaga Government Hospital for medical examination.

The Municipal Education Directorate is tight-lipped about the matter.

Spokesperson of Kano police command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, July 22, said the suspects were arrested following a complaint by the victim’s aunt. 

The suspects have been identified as Nasiru Mohd, 48, Lawan and Auwalu Uba, 31, and 40 years respectively, Rabiu Sharu, 33, and Ahmed Inuwa, 34.

The victim, Tajuddeen Hashim, alleged that the suspects deceived and lured him to various places and had anal sex with him on several occasions. As a result, he sustained serious stomach pain. 

“On the 15/07/2021 at about 1700 hours, a complaint was received from a woman in Mandawari Quarters, Gwale LGA, Kano State that her nephew, one Tajuddeen Hashim, 20 years old of same address complained of stomach pain,” DSP Kiyawa stated.

On receipt of the report, the victim was rushed to Muhammadu Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano where he was treated and discharged.

The suspects were arrested barely 24 hours after the act and discharge of the victim.

On preliminary investigation, all the suspects confessed to the offence.

Rabiu Sharu, 33, confessed to being the first person to lure the teenager and had anal sex with him.

“Discreet investigation is in progress and all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” he added.

In the course of the investigation, the suspect was said to have confessed to the Commission of the offence and stated it was in accordance with ritual requirements.

He stated he went for charms to have special favours from rich and VIP persons in his society, for which his requirement is to defile youngsters of same-sex.

“I have abused the boy for the fourth time after I was offered a charm by a ritualist. He said during my lifetime that I should be doing this action. And according to what the ritualist told me then if I go to anyone that is holding a big position and advise him on what I considered as a crime, he/she will surely listen to me and act on it,” Muhammadu Auwalu Aliyu said to newsmen.

The accused, Pastor Addo Gyimah, 43, has been charged with indecent assault and unnatural carnal knowledge.

The fact of the case presented by Chief Inspector Hayford Osei is that, in August 2020, the 20-year-old complainant (name withheld) who is an apprentice at Akyem Awenade started attending church service at the accused Person’s ‘Nyame Ne Hene’ Prayer centre at Akyem Banso.

According to the Prosecutor, on October 13, 2020, at about 4:30 am after an All-Night service, the accused person told the complainant that her chronic illness has been caused by demons that required divine intervention through special ritual cleansing. He, therefore, asked her to come for some concoction in his house to cleanse herself.

When the complainant went to the house of the pastor, she was told to lie down so that he washes her private part with holy water and anointing oil but the complainant rejected the suggestion and rather pleaded with the accused to give the concoctions to her to take home and perform it herself.

However, the accused insisted and convinced the complainant to comply for her own good, which she complied.

In the process of the exercise, pastor allegedly forced the victim and had anal sex with her.

The Pastor warned the victim she will go mad if she divulges her ordeal to anyone.

Out of fear, the victim did not inform anyone but after few days she began bleeding from the anus hence confided in the husband of her sister who advised that a formal complaint is lodged at the Police station.

The case was reported to Police and a medical form was issued to the victim for medical examination and treatment.

The Pastor was arrested by Police on October 19, 2020. He denied some of the charges but said he massaged the victim during the exercise.

Police charged the accused after further investigation and put him before Court.

The case has been adjourned to April 27, 2021.

Per reports from the family, the suspect, Job Kwansah Mbia, allegedly sodomised the minor repeatedly anytime she visited his home to watch television, and in an instance, he was caught red-handed.

According to them, their daughter is in deep pains with her anal area all destroyed, making it almost impossible for her to sit.

The suspect, Mr Mbia, was arrested by the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit after they were contacted on the abuse.

In an interview with Adom News’ Seth Ankomah Adjei, the victim stated the suspect, at their last encounter, bought her silence with GHS5 and a threat to end her life, for two rounds of sex.

Paul Safo, who spoke on behalf of the family, said they were praying that Mr Mbia is imprisoned for his act.

The girls family say the 16-year-old perpetrator sodomized their daughter who was on errands to buy ice cubes.

The victim who had a hard time narrating her ordeal said the accused “removed all her dress, used broom to sweep the floor and put something in her buttocks’.

After the obscene act, he instructed her to lie to her parents that she fell, when they inquire about her sudden strange movement.

Meanwhile, the victim’s grandfather who had sent her on the errand said the case was reported to the police a day after the incident but four months after, nothing has been done.

According to him, the police asked both families to settle the issue at home since they couldn’t verify the age of the accused who claimed he had no birth certificate.

Accra Regional Coordinator for Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Supt Alice Awarikaro, speaking on the issue, admits the police investigator has done a very poor job.

The accused is said to have, sometime last year, invited four Junior High School (JHS) students to clean his house at Oda.

While working in the house, Mr Owusu allegedly invited the victim, aged 17, to his bedroom and forcefully inserted his penis into his anus.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Francis Atta–Baah, presenting the facts of the case to the court said the victim, reported the incident to his father who in turn reported his son’s ordeal to the headmistress of the school.  

The matter was subsequently investigated by the Ghana Education Service (GES) at Oda where it was agreed by all the parties that Mr Owusu should pay an amount of GH¢1,000 to the victim’s father as a refund of money he spent on his son’s medication.

The accused, however, paid only GH¢700 to the headmistress and thereafter went into hiding, but media reports on the issue led to the arrest of Mr Owusu.

The accused was charged with sodomy and first put before the court on February 4, 2020.

Mr Owusu, aged 40, has been granted GH¢5,000 bail with two sureties to be justified and is to reappear before the court on March 11, 2020.

The 21-year-old suspect, (name withheld) reportedly abducted and had carnal knowledge the victim who had been reported missing for days.

The boy later resurfaced in the community later to recount his ordeal to relatives. The suspect was, however, arrested on Tuesday after a complaint was lodged with the Manhyia Divisional DOVVSU.

The victim’s shocked uncle told Nhyira FM in Kumasi in an interview that the suspect also gave the victim an engagement ring.

“We searched house to house, room to room in this area. We went around the school all afternoon but to no avail. So we decided to make a report to police at about 9 p.m. Whilst at the police station, I had a call from my nephew the boy had come home. The CID officer asked us to bring him to the police station.

A 14-year-old boy is currently in the grip of the Breman Asikuma District Police Command in the Central region for allegedly sodomising a five-year-old boy at Breman Brakwa.

Information gathered by Adom News suggested that the victim and the suspect were playmates, who lived at Mantemankabi, a suburb of Breman Brakwa.

The Breman Asikuma Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, confirming the incident to Adom News, said they could not speak much about the issue because investigations were still underway.

The grandfather of the victim, speaking in an interview with Adom News, explained that they discovered behavioral changes in the victim and upon further interrogation, the victim confessed to being allegedly sodomised by the victim.

Secret filming in the orphanage revealed that both caretakers and children in the home are having a field day as far as sexual escapades are concerned, as the authorities turn a blind eye to the practice while victims who dare to complain or take action are rather punished and petrified into submission.

The facility was established to serve as a home for the homeless, orphans, neglected children including; children with disabilities, special children, and victims of child abuse including sexual abuse. But now, it is a rather inhospitable place for anyone seeking solace from abuse, much more sexual abuse.

Caretakers and Inmates Sleeping with Girls in the Orphanage

In a conversation that was secretly filmed, an inmate of the home by the name Kushi narrated how he continuously had sex with one of the girls in the orphanage and how the same girl graces the bed of a caretaker of the orphanage also.

According to Kushi, he usually sleeps with the girl in question by the name Nana Akua (not her real name) in some of their classrooms after everyone had left the premises. And this sometimes takes place after a long wait for Nana Akua to emerge from the house of Joseph, the rival Nana Akua once disclosed to him that he gave her 2 Cedis after a particular escapade. The following is a transcript of a conversation between Kushi and Tiger in relation to sexual activities in the orphanage.

Tiger: So, how many times have you had sex with her?

Kushi: Three times

Tiger: You’ve had sex with her three times?

Kushi: Yes, three times. Are you asking about 2018 or 2017? Is it this 2018?

Oh! I’ve just started with that of 2018. This is the first in 2018.

Tiger: So, how many times did you do it in 2017?

Kushi: Three times in 2017.

Tiger: Three times?

Kushi: Yes. It’s even more than three.

Tiger: Where does it take place?

Kushi: When I was schooling at the estates, Yes, I was having sex with her in that building. You see they don’t attend worship on Wednesdays.

So, I ask her to go and wait for me in that building or pretend to be going to Teacher Ampofo’s place. Should anyone ask, I instruct her to tell them she was going to Ampofo’s place.

So, she’ll tell whoever asks her that she’s going to Ampofo’s place. There was a day that Ama (not her real name), Maame Serwaa (not her real name), Nana Akua and I had a walk. I signalled Jennifer to go to that place, as we approached Mr Ampofo’s gate. After a few more steps the other two asked of Nana Akua’s whereabout and I told them she had already left.

I then walked the other two back to the school after which I went back to Nana Akua to have sex with her. She told me Teacher also has sex with her. The day I had sex with her, I found 2 Cedis in the pocket of her shorts and when I asked her where she got it from, she told me Teacher gave it to her. So, I asked her why she allowed the teacher to have sex with her while we were still dating. I then told her not to allow the teacher to have sex with her again as I was her husband (boyfriend).

The following is also a transcript of a conversation between another inmate, Maame Serwaa (not her real name), and Tiger in relation to her raping ordeal in the orphanage.

Maame Serwaa: (Narrates her ordeal) So after sweeping I collected the waste to go and dump it. I asked another resident who swept the backyard over there whether she needed the dustbin. She answered, “yes”. I told her I was going to dump the refuse (waste). I saw someone at the refuse dump which got me alarmed. I didn’t know who it was. After dumping the waste, I turned to leave but I heard someone calling me and when I asked for his name, he answered, “Kushi”. He asked why I didn’t respond to his call on Wednesday and I told him I had no reason. He wanted to kiss me, though I refused; he forced me, pushed me to the ground (floor) and raped me. The case was reported to Aunty Nora. Aunty Nora referred me to Aunty Maggie. Aunty Maggie asked me to go report it to Pastor (Reverend Lamina) but I didn’t. So she did. I was bathing when pastor came to instruct me to go and work in the kitchen after I was done. He told me he’ll speak to me after I’m done.

Tiger: What did he say to you when he summoned you?

Maame Serwaa: He assigned me to work till Monday. It was until yesterday that he told me I could go to school on Tuesday. 

Tiger: Did you go apologize? Did you apologize to Pastor? Why?

Maame Serwaa: I apologized to him in the morning.

Tiger: What did you do to pastor?

Maame Serwaa: I did nothing to him.

Tiger: You didn’t offend pastor. After the boy raped you, you were also the one punished. Was it because you reported the incident?

(Girl responds with a nod)

Tiger: What was done to the boy that raped you?

Maame Serwaa: I have no idea.

Tiger: Is he here, the boy that raped you?

(Girl nods a yes.)

Tiger: So will you go to school today?

(Girl nods yes)

Tiger: Did you go to school yesterday?

(No, girl shakes her head)

Other children were however not ready to divulge their experiences as they’ll be punished if it emerges that they’ve spoken to any of the visiting volunteers of such occurrences.

Sodomy

There were also instances where some of the boys were accused of practicing sodomy which led to Rev Lamina ordering them to slap each other several times amidst beating them with a stick as their punishment. One of the accused boys explained that, some of the boys have been practicing this act in the chairman’s room and they lure other kids into doing it.

The following is a transcript of an incident involving Reverend Lamina and some children in the home accused of sodomy.

Reverend Lamina: So did they have sex with you?

2nd Child: No, they planned that they were going to do it in chairman’s room.

Reverend Lamina: Which room?

2nd Child: Chairman’s room. Jonathan and Kojo were going to the place and …

Reverend Lamina: Did they go there?

2nd Child: They went there and

Yes! They were about to do it and didn’t know that I had gotten there.

Reverend Lamina: Why didn’t you… they were coming to do what?

2nd Child: They were coming to have sex and… they were saying bad things

Reverend Lamina: Why didn’t you go and see Pastor? Uh! Look, this is God’s house and not a place for Nigerians, so why did you do that to him?

1st Child: Please, I didn’t do anything to him. He told the boy and err,

Reverend Lamina: Who?

1st Child: Jonathan and this boy, they told me that

Reverend Lamina: You and who? Which boy?

1st Child: Jonathan, Kofi and this boy.

Reverend Lamina: Which Kofi? Go and call him for me.

Slap him properly. (Reverend Lamina instructs the 1st Child to slap 2nd Child, which he obliges amidst hesitations). Ask him who instructed him to have sex with another boy. (Reverend Lamina instructs the 1st Child to ask 2nd Child after the slapping).

1st Child: Who asked you to have sex (with another boy)?

2nd Child: Oh!

Reverend Lamina: Ask him properly.

1st Child: Who asked you to have sex (with another boy).

Reverend Lamina: (Turns to 1st boy.) Why didn’t you report it? (Hits him with a stick in his hand). Why didn’t you report it? (Hits boy again with the stick and instructs him to also slap 2nd boy, and then ask him why he practiced sodomy with him, boy hesitates).

Ask him why he had anal sex with you or I’ll ask someone to give you a slap for you to learn how to slap. (Pastor asks Jonathan, another young resident to slap 1st boy) Hey! Jonathan, give him one slap. (Jonathan obliges, after which Pastor again asks the 1st boy to slap the second boy who had been kneeling all this time.)

Neglect and Inhuman Treatment

In a related development, the home that was supposed to provide some comfort and relief to the disabled and needy children is gradually turning into a den of maltreatment and neglect as some of these disabled children are neglected to their own fate to the extent that some of the children even defecate on themselves and carry the mess for hours. This situation usually arises when the disabled children are detained in a “cell” for some wrong doings for a period of between a day and 4 days.

“He defecated on himself, resulting in the strong smell here, yet since morning he hasn’t been attended to. It’s almost 9pm now,” an inmate noted when he got close to a detained child.

Some of the caretakers and even Rev Lamina, the General Manager of the home, subject some of the children to inhuman treatment which include asking kids to slap each other and when it’s not done to the Reverend’s satisfaction, he’ll or ask another person to demonstrate it to you by slapping you; beating kids with big sticks; knocking kids in the head; kicking them and cell detentions as mentioned above and grounding from school for days as forms of punishment for wrong doings.

“Why didn’t you report it?” Pastor Lamina asked and hit a child accused of sodomy practice with a stick after which he instructs the child to slap another boy and ask the second child why he also practiced sodomy with him.

“Ask him why he had an anal sex with you or I’ll ask someone to give you a slap for you to learn how to slap”, Reverend Lamina instructed and cautioned when a boy accused of sodomy hesitated and didn’t slap another boy accused of the same offence to the Reverend’s satisfaction.

“Hey! Jonathan, give him one slap”, Reverend Lamina then asked Jonathan, another young resident, to slap the first boy which Jonathan obliges to Reverend’s satisfaction. Reverend Lamina, after Jonathan’s slap asked the first child to slap the second child, who had been kneeling all this time, in the same manner Jonathan demonstrated to him.

“Come on, lie down! If you don’t lie down, I’ll beat you mercilessly with this cane, you’ll end up taking painkiller. Lie down!”, a mistress of the home instructed a child.

Reaction from Rev Lamina Lawrence

When the Rev Minister, who claimed to be the father-figure to the children in the home, was contacted and asked of his opinions on abuse of the children in orphanages, he posited that one must be with them to understand and be able to know to what level a punishment can be termed as an abuse. “But in some cases the caregiver tries to discipline the child but they do it extremely. They don’t try to handle it on a mild level. They go (to the) extreme and that is been termed as abuse when you go beyond your limit. So, in such cases, (when) somebody comes around or a visitor (comes) in or a volunteer (comes) in (and) doesn’t know our culture and the extent (to which) we discipline our children. They don’t know the culture and the limit and how we go about it, so, they will look at it as an abuse”, he opined.

He also interestingly stated against his earlier claims that the children at the Echoing Hills Village are not beaten or caned as a form of punishment for fighting or stealing or for any other reason apart from been late for school. “As I said, only the leadership (has been) given the mandate and personally I caned them. Not in terms of may be stealing or fighting or that kind of (reasons) but it’s like they need to go to school by 7 o’clock. You need to wake up by six, get ready and then go to school but (by) 7 o’clock they ‘ll be still sleeping. the cane and then cane them”, he claimed.

Lamina ironically stated in his response on what happens to a child when he steals that such child must be caned. “Ah! If someone steals, that also is a serious issue because one of our rules says we don’t steal. So, for that one too you take some canes because we don’t want you to go out and become an armed robber or to join a gang and (be) stealing”, he responded.

He, however called for caregivers of various orphanages to be trained to help them know how to handle the children in the orphanages as some of them go beyond their bounds in punishing the children which outsiders might see such actions as abuse on the children. “So, what I think is the care givers must be trained. Need extra training and must be made aware as to the extent of how to go about disciplining the kids at the orphanage, so that people outside will not see it as they are deliberately or intentionally abusing the child”, he advocated.

Oh! I see them as my own children and I’m the father-figure here, so, they are able to come to me to express their concerns with their needs. They see me as their father so they are able to relate to me like that and they are always welcomed anytime they come to me, 24/7. Whether in the night, (when) they are in need or whatever it is. (When) they have a problem they call on me. So that’s the relationship.

Echoing Hills Village

Echoing Hills Village, a facilty located at Madina-Ogbojo in Accra, was established in 1994 to provide a home and some comfort for the abandoned children, the abused children, the physically challenged and orphanswhen rev Cordell Brown of the US saw the plight of some disabled Ghanaians and realised that life is not a struggle to succeed but to survive in our Ghanaian society.

According to the victim, the boys in Upper Primary Five forced and had anal sex with him after school hours and threatened to beat him if he told his parents about the ordeal.

Narrating his ordeal to Adom FM’s Maame Esi Nyamekye Thompson, the boy said he told one of his teachers that the boys in Class Five inserted their penis in his butt but the teacher did not take it seriously.

He said he informed his grandmother he felt pain in his anal orifice, every time he visited the loo but could not tell her why.

His grandmother identified only as Madam Theresa said the doctors did a lab test after some rashes were seen around his anus when they visited the hospital.

“The report confirmed someone had forcefully abused my grandson,” she stated.

Before the doctor’s confirmation, the boy said he had seen spots of blood in his underwear but anytime his grandmother asked him about it, he kept quiet because of the threat the boys had issued.

Madam Theresa said she forced him to go to the loo because he said he could not release his bowels.

“He has cried a lot from April to November because of the pain. There were times we had to take him to the hospital because the pain was too much for him.

Maame Esi Nyamekye Thompson reported the boy wears pampers because of his inability to control his bowel movements.

She added authorities at his school have refused to go on record but have denied the allegations.

With the alleges suspects being minors, it is not clear yet what the counsel of the Attorney General will be.

The applicant, George Amponsah-Duodu through his lawyers said the authorities failed to give him a fair hearing during the investigation process, making his suspension one without basis, and is, therefore, praying the court quashes the report put forward by the investigation committee.

Last month, four students of the all-male school leveled sodomy allegations against the assistant headmaster.
After preliminary investigations, Mr. Amponsah-Duodu was subsequently suspended by the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate over the allegations to allow a full-scale probe to be conducted into the matter without any interference.

But in a writ cited by citinewsroom.com, lawyers for the plaintiff argued that the committee that looked into the matter did not comply with the rules of natural justice.

“That the committee deliberately failed, refused and neglected to produce my accuser before the committee for me to cross-examine him on the allegation made against me.”

“That when the 2nd Respondent (The Headmaster) was questioned whether I was given an opportunity to meet and to cross-examine my accuser on the allegation, the 2nd Respondent answered in the negative.”

Reliefs sought by the plaintiff

In their four reliefs, the plaintiff together with his lawyers are humbly praying the following:

1. That investigative report of the 2nd Respondent’s committee is brought to this Honourable Court to be quashed.

2. An order of injunction at the Respondents, their privies, assigns, agents, servants or anyone claiming through or purporting to act on the authority of the Respondents from continuing any disciplinary investigation involving the Applicant until the matters in this dispute are determined by this Honourable Court.

3. Cost including legal fees

4. Any other Order(s) as the Court deem fit

The suspended Assistant Headmaster has insisted he is innocent. Describing the allegations as baseless, Mr. Amponsah-Duodo insisted that he has not had any contact with the alleged victim.

He argued that the committee looking into the allegations has been “necessitated merely by hearsay or some assertion without any concrete documentary or evidential proof.”

But, a letter from the head of the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) legal unit sighted by Citi News, indicated that during investigations, the Assistant Headmaster’s name was cited by a final year student of the school identified as Lucien Dankwa, as having introduced him to homosexuality.

But lawyers for the accused earlier maintained that “it is our client’s submission that at no point in time in his professional career has he ever had any form of physical contact with the said students. Our client intimates that he is not homosexual and has been married for the past 18 years with four children.”

Mr. Amponsah-Duodo’s lawyers had also urged the committee investigating the matter to “compel Lucien Dankwa to provide proof of the allegation of sexual misconduct or homosexual act if any.”

Headmistress of the Royal International School, Priscilla Manu Gyebi has dismissed sodomy allegations levelled against three pupils of the school.

A class one pupil of the school (name withheld) who is battling for his life at the Tema General Hospital accused three class 5 pupils of sodomy.

But the headmaster of the school believes the victim may have been influenced to frame the suspects up.

Mrs. Manu Gyebi in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme Tuesday said, she came to that conclusion after she personally interrogated the victim and noticed his account is not consistent.

“Even if it was true, can these children’s penetration cause that damage? I still find it hard to believe that the boy was sodomized. I think he has been told to say that,” she said.

She continued: “After I have personally paid for the medical bill of the boy, the grandma, came to me asking me to help her collect money from people to cover the issue. She blackmailed me.”

Distraught grandmother, Theresa Lamptey says though the suspects were identified by the victim, they were released by the Community Eleven Police.

She accused the headmistress of covering up just to protect the image of her school.

“The headmistress is telling lies. I never asked her for money and never blackmailed her and so she should stop that because it’s bad” she cried.

But Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Benefo Darkwa dismissed claim police have abandoned the case.

According to him, police investigative team is waiting for doctor’s report on the victim.

Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa said until the report is done, there is very little they can do about the case.

He said eventhough the suspects have been granted bail, they are being closely monitored and will be invited for further investigations if neccessary.

ASP Benefo Darkwa promised justice will be served if the culprits are found culpable.

Meanwhile, Proprietress of Royal International School, Prinscilla Manu Gyebi said the boy was not sodomized.

Rather, she said the sore in the boy’s buttocks is due to a boil infection.

Madam Gyebi indicated that, she assisted his grandmother with money when he was admitted at the hospital thus find it strange when the sodomy issue came up.

This notwithstanding, the Royal school head said they have also lodged a complaint at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

A seven-year-old-boy is fighting for his life after being allegedly sodomized by three boys in school.

She said the suspects dragged the victim who is in class 1 to an uncompleted room and assaulted him sexually, ripping the victim’s anus in the process.

“Last month, when my grandson returned from school, he told me he won’t be going back to school again. So I asked why but he refused to tell me till I saw that he was bleeding through his anus, so I asked him further and he told he was sodomized by some boys in class 5.

“I then rushed him to the hospital and as I’m speaking, he is currently on admission and can’t even walk. His anus has been ripped”, she cried.

The distraught grandma said after the suspects were identified by the victim, they were left to go scot-free by the Community Eleven Police.

Madam Theresa Lamptey said the boys were released after they denied the act.

The grandma, who is left to deal with the situation on her own is hurt by the incident and is appealing for support to help take care of the boy since she is cash-strapped.

“These boys have been left to go scot-free because they denied the act. Now I have been left alone, I have used all the money I have. After selling all my clothes and everything I have, I am left with nothing and I plead with the public to help me”, she cried.

Meanwhile, the Tema Regional Police PRO, Joseph Benefo Darkwa speaking on Adom News said the suspects have been granted bail pending investigations into the matter.

Mr. Amanor Francis Bawa, a French teacher allegedly lures his victims to his house to have anal sex with them.

He said Mr. Bawa when quizzed by the leadership of the church, blamed the devil for his conduct and pleaded for clemency.
Captain Smart revealed that, recommendation by the Circuit Supervisor of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the area for the suspect to be transferred has still not been complied with by authorities.
