The gathering was organised to express gratitude to his colleagues who had supported his campaign in various ways, including offering spiritual backing and standing by him throughout his journey to Parliament.

Mr Bessey specifically acknowledged their physical presence in the constituency both before and on election day, as well as their involvement in monitoring the elections across various electoral areas.

He reminisced about the team’s support during his first attempt at the primaries, despite his loss at the time.

He was particularly moved by the team’s financial contributions during this year’s campaign, with some sending funds directly to him and others attending his fundraising events in Sege. “Words may not be enough to express my gratitude, but deep in my heart, I hold you all in very high regard,” he stated.

The evening saw the attendance of numerous schoolmates, including members of the Tema Secondary School Old Students Association (TOSA ’96), as well as family members and friends.

Dr. Felix Kodzo Besah Sorvor, speaking on behalf of the TOSA ’96 year group, congratulated Mr. Bessey on his victory and for showcasing Tema Secondary School’s excellence through his perseverance and success.

He noted that Mr. Bessey exemplified the true spirit of a Temascan, which is encapsulated in the motto, “Always the Best.”

Mr. Bessey took time to personally thank everyone present, beginning with his wife, Mrs. Genevieve Bessey, whom he affectionately referred to as his “dear Rebecca.”

Moving from table to table, he expressed his appreciation for their support and for honouring his invitation.

Addressing a question about the time it typically takes to become an MP, Mr. Bessey explained that it varies but usually requires 8 to 12 years of active physical presence and engagement in the constituency.

He noted that constituents now value direct relationships with their representatives and expect them to be involved in their daily lives and events.

He also highlighted the critical role of family support in the journey to Parliament, particularly for married individuals.

Mr Bessey credited his wife for being a pillar of strength throughout the emotionally and financially demanding campaign.

“She has always supported my dreams and has been fully part of them,” he said, thanking her for her unwavering encouragement and belief in their ultimate goal.

Mr Bessey reiterated the importance of alumni groups and urged people to participate actively in their old student associations.

He shared his vision for the Ada West constituency, including plans to introduce socio-economic insurance schemes to support families with needs such as funeral expenses and job opportunities.

He concluded by affirming his commitment to serving both the people of Ada West and the Tema Secondary School community, setting an example for future generations.

MP blames gov’t for feud between Electrochem, Sege residents https://www.adomonline.com/mp-blames-govt-for-feud-between-electrochem-sege-residents/ Tue, 07 Nov 2023 20:50:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2315943 Member of Parliament (MP) for Sege, Christian Corleytey Otuteye, has said the feud between residents and Electrochem Ghana Limited should be blamed on government.

According to him, the government has turned a blind eye to pertinent issues which need to be addressed and is acting adamant.

On August 30, 2023, President Nana Akufo-Addo commissioned an ultra-modern salt mining and processing plant at Ada Songor owned by Electrochem despite opposition and persistent protests from residents of the area.

Speaking on Adom FM morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Mr Otuteye questioned why the government was aware of the challenges on the ground but ignored them.

“The government rushed to commission the problem in spite of the existing problems and the evidence is clear on the ground. It appears there is a cover-up.

“It is a vast area the people have been mining all these years but now, it seems Electrochem does not want to see people close to their territory doing the same business they are in,” he lamented.

Mr. Otuteye called for cool heads and further dialogue to prevent the situation from escalating.

“A commission of inquiry must be established to look into what is happening because a solution must come from the government immediately else the situation will escalate further than what we saw on Monday.

The government and Electrochem have prejudiced that the people are doing something illegal but I don’t think the people have any reason to fight the investor so there must be dialogue for understanding to prevail and the issues addressed,” he urged.

Meanwhile, the MP has pledged to lead a dialogue for a resolution.
