The incident unfolded in the upscale neighborhood of Bridle Path shortly after 2am, as a 48-year-old man was rushed to hospital after being found in the street badly injured.

It is unclear if the artist was home at the time of the shooting. A suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, and reports indicate they are still at large.

Sources told the Toronto Sun that the victim was Drake’s security guard, and witnesses said he was shot multiple times during a ‘drive-by shooting.’

It comes amid his ongoing viral feud with rival rapper Kendrick Lamar. Although officials have not indicated any early link to the shooting, Drake is said to be ‘cooperating’ with investigators.

The area around Drake’s mansion, built by the star in 2015 for a reported $100 million, was restricted by a police perimeter amid the ongoing investigation.

The victim was found several streets away, and his injuries have been described by officials as serious, but non-life threatening.

He was raced to Sunnybrook Hospital and received emergency surgery, with one of the wounds believed to be to the upper chest.

It is unclear why police set up a perimeter at Drake’s home when the shooting was streets away, however sources told CP24 that Drake has offered to cooperate with investigators as they probe the shooting.

Around an hour earlier, a man was shot dead and a woman was injured in another shooting in Oakwood Village, roughly nine miles away. It is unclear if the two shootings are related.

The location of the shooting at Drake’s Toronto mansion comes amid his ongoing feud with rival rapper Kendrick Lamar, who used the same mansion to taunt Drake this week.

As the two men have released ‘diss tracks’ against each other the last few weeks, Lamar shared the cover for his track ‘Not Like Us’, featuring Drake’s mansion covered in markers for a sex offender app.

There is no evidence at this time that the shooting was related to the rapper’s viral feud.

The suspect in the shooting fled the scene, police said, and investigators have yet to release any descriptions of either the gunman or the vehicle.

Discussions to set up police interviews inside the huge mansion are taking place, reports the Toronto Sun.

Drake – real name Aubrey Graham – made headlines when he set out to build the palatial home in 2015, and purchased the plot of land it sits on for $6.7 million.

He then spent a reported $100 million constructing the huge estate.

The artist is known to be private around details with his residence, although he has occasionally offered fans a glimpse at the luxury property on social media, including showing his private basketball court.

The shooting in the early hours of Tuesday is not the first time the home has been involved in serious incidents.

On March 30, 2021, a woman was arrested outside the mansion after allegedly attacking a security guard with a knife.

Qatar security guard dies after serious fall in stadium https://www.adomonline.com/qatar-security-guard-dies-after-serious-fall-in-stadium/ Thu, 15 Dec 2022 16:52:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2195709 A Kenyan security guard who reportedly fell while on duty at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium has died in hospital, his family and officials have confirmed to CNN.

His employer had notified the migrant worker’s family on Saturday that 24-year-old John Njau Kibue had fallen from the 8th floor of the stadium while on duty, his sister Ann Wanjiru said.

“We don’t have the money to get justice for him, but we want to know what happened,” she told CNN.

A medical certificate obtained by CNN shows he was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hamad General Hospital in Doha. The document says Kibue had a “severe head injury, facial fractures and pelvic fractures.”

In a statement, the organizers of the World Cup – the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy – announced Kibue’s death.

“We regret to announce that, despite the efforts of his medical team, he sadly passed away in hospital on Tuesday 13 December, after being in the intensive care unit for three days,” the statement added.

“His next of kin have been informed. We send our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and friends during this difficult time.”

John Njau Kibue at the Lusail Stadium.

Earlier this week, the committee announced that Kibue suffered a serious fall while on duty.

“Qatar’s tournament organisers are investigating the circumstances leading to the fall as a matter of urgency and will provide further information pending the outcome of the investigation, ” it said in its statement.

“We will also ensure that his family receive all outstanding dues and monies owed.”

He had been unconscious since Saturday and was connected to a machine to help him breathe, his medical records showed. A family member was informed on Monday morning of his death.

But the security guard’s family says his Qatari employer, Al Sraiya Security Services, has not explained how he fell or any of the circumstances surrounding his death.

“We want justice. We want to know what caused his death. They have never sent us a picture to show where he fell from or given us any other information,” his sister Wanjiru told CNN.

CNN has contacted Al Sraiya Security Services for comment after the guard’s death and is yet to receive a response.

In a statement to CNN, the Kenyan embassy in Qatar said it was aware of the matter and “undertaking necessary consular assistance whilst awaiting official communication from Qatar’s Supreme Committee and competent authorities.”

The guard’s family says he moved to Qatar last November for a contract with Al Sraiya Security Services.

A WhatsApp message seen by CNN was sent to his colleagues at other World Cup stadiums soliciting for contributions.

“He came here to support his family back home but by bad luck his dreams came to an end today,” it reads in part. “Let’s do something for our beloved comrade.”

He is the second migrant worker reported dead since the tournament began in the Gulf nation after another was reportedly killed in an accident at a resort used by Saudi Arabia during the group stages.

Driver’s mate allegedly stabs security guard with screwdriver https://www.adomonline.com/drivers-mate-allegedly-stabs-security-guard-with-screwdriver/ Mon, 11 Apr 2022 14:46:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2103255 A driver’s mate has allegedly stabbed to death a security guard stationed at the Kejetia new market with a screwdriver.

Reports indicate this was after the suspect’s driver had a scuffle with the deceased for loading at the market.

According to an eyewitness, Prince, a station master at Agric Kwadaso, the incident happened on Saturday, April 9 after the security guard stabbed the driver, who fell unconscious.

The mate, who was angered by the guard’s action, also stabbed him, leading to his death.

“What I saw was a misunderstanding between a security guard and a driver. So, the security guard stabbed the driver into an unconscious state, and then the driver’s mate also rushed to his car, wielded a screwdriver and stabbed the security guard. He fell unconscious and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” he told Akoma FM.

The driver is, however, receiving treatment at the Kejetia hospital while the suspect is in police grips, assisting with investigations.

Mayor for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Samuel Pyne, has since expressed worry about the situation.

Mr Pyne has assured of a crunch management meeting to ascertain the issue for possible solutions to avoid recurrence.

16-year-old expelled for having sex with school’s security guard https://www.adomonline.com/16-year-old-expelled-for-having-sex-with-schools-security-guard/ Thu, 28 Oct 2021 14:31:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2035319 Parents of a 16-year-old Form Three student have cried out after their daughter was expelled from a High School in Zimbabwe, for allegedly having sex with a security guard employed by the school, repeatedly.

The security guard, identified as David Tembo, resigned after his alleged sexual relationship with the 16-year-old girl came to light.

The girl’s parents have accused the school head, Nomatamsanqa Kusena of protecting Tembo instead of their daughter who they alleged was manipulated.

Her father also stated that it is unfair for the school head to expel their daughter, instead of getting Tembo arrested for allegedly having sex with a student.

He said: “The Headmistress is protecting a person who manipulated my daughter into sex.

“Nothing has been done to him, and the head just wants us to go away.”

“The security guy is someone who we entrust our kids with at the school and he is supposed to be a father figure. How could he do that to my daughter?”

It was also reported that the case was downplayed at the police station after the girl said the encounters were consensual.

Though sexually explicit messages and images were found on Tembo’s phone, he has denied having sex with the Form 3 student.

He told journalists: “I don’t know what you are talking about; yes I know her but the conversations you are referring to involve another guy.

“It was my phone which was used to send the messages and I was also fixing her phone.

“The school head Mrs Kusena can testify because I explained everything to her.”

It was also learnt that Tembo is still residing at the school premises even though he’s resigned.

Mark Ambeyi Mutongoyi, 28, was arraigned at Kibera law courts where he claimed to have taken the video to please his eyes and claimed to have been possessed by some evil spirits.

He was charged with committing common nuisance at Rubis petrol station on the afternoon of October 7 and is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty.

The complainant in the matter had driven in to fuel her car and proceeded into washrooms as the car was being fueled.

The court heard that while inside and just before she left, she saw a mobile phone held while either taking video or pictures of her. She rushed outside but could not see anyone.

She reported the incident to the management and the attendants and guards were questioned.

The victim reported the matter to Parklands police station.

The CCTV at the facility was reviewed two days later and Mutongoyi was identified as having been standing behind the ladies’ washrooms while holding a phone directed at the washrooms through an opening.

He was arrested and admitted to police to have done it. In court, he claimed that it was a minor mischief and pleaded for leniency saying he has two children fully dependent on him.

His case will be mentioned on November 1 when a pre-sentencing report will be tabled before the court.

Another security guard at the GWCL office in the same area, who only gave his name as Duodu, also reported of a robbery incident at the office.

Airport security guard fired for keeping minister waiting https://www.adomonline.com/airport-security-guard-fired-keeping-minister-waiting/ Fri, 30 Jun 2017 14:21:48 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=260501 A Kenyan security guard has sued her employer after she was allegedly dismissed for insisting that a government minister undergoes a security check at the country’s main airport while trying to catch a domestic flight, the Standard newspaper reports.

Daisy Cherogony is reported to have insisted that Education Minister Fred Matiang’i queue and undergo security checks like other passengers in an incident on 6 April.

Her employer, Kenya’s Airport Authority (KAA), dismissed her on 11 May on grounds of gross misconduct for mistreating and humiliating the minister.

In her court documents filed at the Employment and Labour Relations Court, Ms Cherogony says she was accused of making a mistake that does not exist and was victimised and discriminated against by KAA, the Standard reports.

She says that according to the airport security manual, government ministers do not qualify for any preferential treatment unless they have special passes.

Ms Cherogony said the minister, accompanied by an airport police inspector and his security team, had tried to force their way instead of waiting in line like other passengers:

“He (Matiang’i) did not want to follow the queue but wanted special treatment despite the fact that it was raining and people were complaining.”

She now wants the court to declare her termination unfair and to award her $23,000 (£17,000) for wrongful dismissal.

She accuses KAA of frustrating her efforts to claim her job benefits.

The airport authority body has 15 days to respond to the suit.
