This was confirmed in a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the spokesperson to President John Mahama.

The statement noted that the president has accepted her decision and expressed appreciation for her service to the central bank and the nation.

“The president thanks Mrs. Elsie Addo Awadzi for her distinguished service to the bank and the republic and wishes her well in her future endeavors,” the statement read.

 

 

In a related development, the First Deputy Governor, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, has also resigned.

Mrs. Awadzi, who has been in office since 2018, played a key role in Ghana’s financial sector reforms and banking regulation.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the next BoG Governor, pending approval by the Council of State.
