Savannah Regional Minister warns of Bawku conflict spillover https://www.adomonline.com/savannah-regional-minister-warns-of-bawku-conflict-spillover/ Wed, 19 Feb 2025 09:27:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2506099 Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Be-Awuribe, has raised concerns over the potential spillover of the ongoing Bawku conflict into his region.

His concerns follow recent security incidents in Walewale, which have been linked to the Bawku crisis, heightening fears of instability spreading beyond its current epicenter.

Speaking to journalists after a high-level stakeholder meeting, the Minister emphasized the urgent need for proactive security measures to prevent any escalation within the Savannah Region.

He noted the region’s vulnerability due to its geographic proximity to conflict-prone areas, making it susceptible to infiltration by individuals seeking to extend hostilities.

“The spillover of the Bawku chieftaincy issues is affecting the Savannah Region. If you pass through the Sandema area, you can reach Daboya. Because of the conflict, some traffic is diverted from the main route through the North East Region. If we don’t establish the necessary security structures, some individuals could bring the conflict into our area. This is something we are taking very seriously,” he stated.

Walewale, he added, has already witnessed disturbances tied to the crisis.

The Minister assured residents that security agencies are on high alert and working closely with local authorities to prevent any escalation of violence.

Creation of Savannah Region has ensured faster development – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/creation-of-savannah-region-has-ensured-faster-development-bawumia/ Mon, 22 Jul 2024 08:22:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2424241 Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has credited the Akufo-Addo government’s creation of the Savannah Region with accelerating infrastructure and development.

The Savannah Region is one of five new regions created by the Akufo-Addo administration, carved out of the former Northern Region.

During a campaign visit to Bole on Sunday, Dr Bawumia addressed the Paramount Chief of Bole and his elders, emphasizing the NPP’s commitment to inclusive development.

He highlighted the positive impact of creating new regions on the Savannah Region.

He noted that the creation of the Savannah Region has led to numerous projects, including roads and hospitals, as part of the agenda to build 111 hospitals in various areas.

“We are in politics to help develop our communities and the country. It is significant to note that many of the developments you see in Bole and in the Savannah Region took place under the NPP. And given the chance, we will be able to do even more,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“We have created the Savannah Region and the Savannah Region is seeing a lot of benefits. We are seeing a lot of projects, a lot of roads, a lot of hospitals – the agenda 111 hospitals in various areas. We are doing a lot in Savannah and we want to continue to do more.”

Dr Bawumia also mentioned several completed projects, such as school blocks, market centres, and CHPS compounds, stressing the need for continued support to finish ongoing developments.

The Bolewura welcomed Dr Bawumia and appealed for attention to other local concerns, including the Sawla road, the Bole market, and the Bole Central Mosque.

Dr Bawumia also agreed to renovate the mosque and assured the Bolewura of addressing the other issues.

Bole Serial killings: Severed head of the latest victim found – MP reveals https://www.adomonline.com/bole-serial-killings-severed-head-of-the-latest-victim-found-mp-reveals/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 12:02:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2419083 The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, says the head of the decapitated body in the latest suspected ritual murder incident at Bole in the Savanna Region has been found.

According to him, the body part was found in a polythene bag on the outskirts of the Bole Township.

“It tells you that the person was trying to run away with it but I think for some reason decided to leave it there and we are still monitoring to see how we can handle the situation,” he said on the JoyNews’ AM Show.

The revelation comes hours after the body was retrieved from the pavement of the St Kizito’s Primary school.

The yet-to-be-identified man was found naked with his head and manhood chopped off.

This discovery adds to similar incidents that have rocked the town.

In 2022, the bodies of deceased persons were found half buried, with some parts missing.

The recent killings, however, took a different turn as mentally ill people and night security guards, also known as watchmen, became targets.

Four bodies were discovered at different locations in the area between January and June this year.

As a result of these disturbances, residents of Bole in the Savannah Region have initiated a self-imposed curfew due to a series of gruesome serial killings in the area.

But the MP says Assembly Members and security personnel are engaging the residents to gather more information.

Mr Sulemana said a community watchdog programme is also being put together.

“We are engaging the community, the assemblymen are engaging them and that is how they were able to come up with a list of people who are ready to be part of the community watchdog programme,” he explained.
