Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Obeng explained that his close interactions with party members after the 2024 elections revealed widespread calls for change.

He added that further research conducted in other regions confirmed that delegates and supporters are seeking renewed tactics and leadership to strengthen the NPP’s chances of returning to power in 2028.

“My work as a regional minister allowed me to engage closely with party members. This has given me the opportunity to gather insights into the central mindset of the party and government. Every party loyalist wants to see progress and strength in order to remain in power. After the elections, I spent significant time in the region, engaging with constituents to understand how we could reinvigorate the energy and passion for the party. It became clear to me that a new direction was necessary.

“I even tasked researchers with studying other regions, and the results indicated that the party needed to change its tactics. We must make decisive moves to strengthen the party so that we can win future elections. My decision to support Kennedy Agyapong was based on thorough research rather than emotions. The findings are concerning for other contenders, including Dr. Bawumia,” he added.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Obeng said Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign has gained strong momentum due to a more organised and efficient structure compared to his first attempt.

He added that the campaign team now has coordinators nationwide and a solid grassroots system, which he believes will give Kennedy Agyapong an edge in the upcoming primaries.

“I think the first time he aspired, there was not much activity. The team that helped him at that time performed well, but to win national elections, you need a solid system. At that time, he didn’t have coordinators across the country, and there were some constituencies where he lacked support. Now, all those gaps have been addressed, and we have a competent team on the ground.

“Many party delegates are shifting their support from Bawumia to Kennedy Agyapong as we tour the constituencies. The structure supporting Ken is now effective and efficient. Previously, the campaign was managed by volunteers, but now we have organised party members in place. The campaign momentum is very high,” he stated.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Obeng said Agyapong’s engagements with polling station executives demonstrate his genuine concern for ordinary party members.

He emphasized the importance for aspirants to apologise to the party’s grassroots following the 2024 electoral defeat, to rebuild trust and rekindle commitment ahead of future elections.

“When you are meeting with party polling station executives, you need to be well-prepared because understanding politics is essential. If you approach them without this understanding, you might be surprised by their perspectives. Ken’s message is all about addressing their well-being and expectations,” Mr. Obeng said.

He added: “As an aspirant, he needs to communicate his plans to both the grassroots and delegates. I’m sure the other aspirants agree with Ken that we need to apologise to the party grassroots so we can rekindle the spirit and energy after losing the last elections.”

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Obeng said Agyapong’s ongoing “Unity Tour” ahead of the primaries demonstrates his commitment to peace and cohesion in the NPP.

According to him, the party risks losing or failing to sustain power in the 2028 elections if it does not remain united.

“He is currently on his unity tour ahead of the primaries. His message and actions clearly demonstrate that he is the only one who has boldly called for unity within the party. He believes that the only way we can win the 2028 elections is through unity. If we are not unified, even if we win the elections, we cannot hold on to our victory. Unity matters to him, and to practice what he preaches, he is currently on this tour,” he stated.

Mr. Obeng revealed that Agyapong began the tour in the Western North Region, moving constituency by constituency and engaging with stakeholders.

“He started in Western North, visiting constituency by constituency and meeting with all the stakeholders involved. He is working to bring peace and unity to the party. Every delegate will tell you that their takeaway from every conversation with Ken Agyapong is the importance of unity,” he added.
