In a behind-the-scenes video shared by Ghanaian movie producer Shirley Frimpong Manso on her Instagram page, Akrobeto is seen alongside Nollywood actress Rita Dominic and Ghanaian stars such as Akosua Agyepong, Gloria Sarfo, Kojo Boakye, and others.

The video begins with Shirley Frimpong Manso advising her cast to take their scripts seriously.

She said without adequate preparation, the actors would likely perform poorly.

“You’ve got to practice, it’s not funny. You think you can wing it? It can only happen when you practice and have read your script over and over again. When you have read your script, it shows in your acting, and when you don’t, it is also visible,” Frimpong Manso counselled her cast.

Rita Dominic acknowledged the work ethic of the actors and crew members on set, saying, “Bravo to everyone on set. I did not see a single frown. Everyone worked professionally. I am quite impressed with that, and we need more of such professionalism in the movie industry.”

Shirley Frimpong Manso is gearing up for her latest film project, “Two of a Kind.”

According to her, she was dealing with some personal issues at the time and needed to take a break.

As a result, Rita Dominic disclosed at the 2024 Women of Valour Conference in Accra, that she moved to London, a completely new place and started working as a caregiver.

The actress said that while some might view her job as a caregiver as a “step-down” from the life of an actress, she found fulfilment in that job.

“In 2001/2002 I stopped acting. I left the [movie] industry and moved to London because it was a very dark period in my life. I fell out with some friends I considered family. And I just gave up acting for a while. I needed to get out of that space for a minute.”

Rita Dominic explained that at the time she had lost her mother and her siblings had also moved to London. 

So, she was all alone in Nigeria and waiting months to get an acting job was a struggle. “I found myself losing faith in the slow growth of Nollywood.”

“And then I moved to London and gave up stardom. You won’t believe this, this is something I’ve never told people before. While in London, I was trying to make ends meet so I started working in a care home as a caregiver for adults with special needs. While some might view it as a step-down, I don’t. Taking care of others brought me joy and purpose at a time I needed it most.”

Decades later, Rita Dominic is regarded as one of the best actresses in Nollywood.

In 1998, she starred in her first movie, A Time to Kill and went on to star in many others in subsequent years, including Blood Sisters, Light in the Dark, True Lies, The Meeting and Desecration.

Rita Dominic has also ventured into production after earning acclaim as one of Nollywood’s finest actresses for decades. She has helmed various projects, including “The Therapist,” “Light in the Dark,” “Bound,” “The Blindspot,” and “Desecration.”

In an interview on JoyFM’s Personality Profile, Rita Dominic elaborated on the complexities of being in the public eye, highlighting the constant scrutiny and criticism famous individuals endure.

Reflecting on the persistent scrutiny and judgments she faces, Dominic emphasised that while it has improved with time, it remains a hurdle she navigates.

“The fame is nice. It can open doors, it can do all sorts of pleasant things for you, but there are aspects of it I really don’t like…you can’t really be yourself sometimes. So that’s the part that I struggle with even after how many years, I still struggle with it a little bit,” she said.

“It gets better, yes over the years, but I still struggle with that scrutiny and those constant judgments,” Rita Dominic told the host, Lexis Bill.

The Nigerian actress said that additionally, some people cannot separate her from the roles she plays and these come with misunderstanding her character as a person.

Rita Dominic underscored the importance of delineating herself from her on-screen personas to avoid misconceptions.

She noted that people “tend to think that I’m some of the characters in roles I play. I am not.”

Rita who appeared on Personality Profile, noted that although a lot of film makers are working hard in their various fields, what will make their lives better is royalties known in the film industry as residuals.

“It will be nice for actors in Africa to have their royalties so that way people are not struggling when they get older, which has been the challenge in the industry for some old actors. They have been struggling financially and that shouldn’t be so. These are people who have done major films, been involved in major films and all that and then all of a sudden when they are old, they are struggling financially. Meanwhile, their films are still being played on YouTube, on all these platforms and they are even getting royalties or getting monies from them,” she said.

Most film industries in Africa have bemoaned lack of proper systems to get residuals from audio visual content consumed by the public.

Residuals are financial compensations that are paid to the actors, film or television directors, and others involved in making TV shows and movies in cases of the cable reruns, syndication, DVD release, or licensing to streaming media.

The actors guild in Nigeria has always said that from television airings to streaming, every new licence should count as additional wages for them too. In Ghana, the Audiovisual Right Society of Ghana (ARSOG) has also come under criticism for failing to equitably distribute residuals for its members.

In Rita’s interview with Lexis Bill, also intimated that actors need to manage their finances well so that they don’t find themselves in penury later on in life.

“Maybe some of us need to invest more, do more financial planning, and understand that the work will not always keep coming,” she further noted.

According to her, although some actors are pressured to spend a lot to keep up with their celebrity lifestyles, she has always lived within her means.

“It is expensive as well, having to support the brand or the the celerity status which is why you have to know how to spend our money.

I do not [feel pressured]. I am not one of those. I definitely don’t feel pressured. Some do, which is why they feel the need to do other things to keep up their appearance,” he stated.

Rita, a colossus in the Nigerian film industry, was in Ghana as a speaker at the Women of Valour Summit organised by media personality Nana Aba Anamoah.

Other women who spoke at the event were Ghanaian film producer Shirley Frimpong-Manso, South African broadcaster and actress Bonang Matheba, among others.

The renowned star was greeted with enthusiasm and excitement by a group of Nigerian students studying in Ghana.

As Rita stepped off the plane, she was met with cheers and applause from the crowd who eagerly awaited her arrival at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

They presented her with bouquets of flowers as a token of their admiration.

Following the heartfelt reception at the airport, Rita was escorted to her hotel by her enthusiastic fans, who continued to express their joy at her presence in Ghana

Rita Dominic’s visit to Ghana coincides with her participation in the Women of Valor Conference organized by prominent Ghanaian media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah.

As a guest speaker at the conference, Rita is set to share her insights and experiences with attendees to inspire women to embrace their strength and resilience in pursuit of their dreams.

The actress on, Tuesday, April 19, formalised her union with her sweetheart in a traditional ceremony organised in her hometown in Imo State.

The event is dubbed the #reeldeel, and her first marriage at age 46.

She dazzled in a short yet gorgeous traditional wear and adorned herself with beads to represent her Igbo culture.

She rocked a blue high slit dress made with see-through lace in the tummy area.

Her late father’s compound turned into a festive location as Nollywood stars, friends and kinsmen gathered to witness the talk-of-the-town wedding.

Rita’s colleague actresses also showed up in their numbers and the joy on their faces depicted the happiness they have as she begins her new journey.

Taking to her Instagram story, the actress shared the pictures and videos of her attire.

The much-loved actress, who is set to marry Fidelis Anosike, in just a few days had a bridal shower attended by those in her close circle.

The event comes just a few days after the official pre-wedding photos of the husband and wife-to-be surfaced on social media to the delight of many.

Her spouse, Fidelis Anosike, is a publisher of one of Nigeria’s major newspaper, The Daily Times as well as a mogul in the area of entrepreneurship.

According to reports, the on-screen goddess and her lover got engaged some time ago, and have been privately putting in plans for their upcoming wedding.

Rita Dominic, some days ago, organised a pre-wedding bash, of which other legendary actresses were in attendance.

A video clip uploaded  shows her mingling with her industry colleagues including Ini Edo, Kate Henshaw and Uche Jombo in what is being reported to be her pre-hen night.

After keeping a low profile of her lover, Rita has finally flaunted him in some photos she shared on Instagram.

She was enjoying his warm embrace as they almost locked lips.

Congratulations are in order for the actress, especially as her previous marriage plan ended on rocks.

For undisclosed reasons, she backed out few months to the wedding over some signs she said could not be overlooked.

This makes her engagement with Fidelis her second.

Deep throat sources say their wedding have been slated for 18th and 19th of April.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the 46-year-old is currently pregnant with her first child.

Despite not being known to be engaged, she revealed her lover, Fidelis Anosike in 2020, but went on to keep their relationship private.

They were, however, spotted hand-in-hand at the funeral of Fidelis’ mother, together with some Nollywood stars including Chacha Eke, Destiny Etiko and Queen Nwokoye.

She was captured in a happy mood, as she dances to her heart’s contentment. Netizens, however, looked beyond her dance steps to point out her baby bump.

Congratulations are flying in for her, but she is yet to break the silence on the ongoing rumour.

“See how she is glowing. See ehen forget if you finally find someone that loves you truly and gives you peace, your happiness go increase,’’ a netizen commented.

Another said, “I’m so happy for her, married, pregnant, glowing and happy.’’

Taking to her Instagram page, Rita Dominic shared her mother’s wedding photos, saying she is always in their thoughts and hearts even 20 years after she left them.

Rita Domini urged her mother to dance and sing with the angel, adding they would join her in great celebration when they meet again.

She wrote: Our beautiful Mother on her wedding day. We remember her fondly today on her birthday. Mummy, you are always in our thoughts and hearts even 20 years on from when you left us.

According to 45-year-old screen diva, she doesn’t want to have any setbacks or heartbreaks hence would take all the time she wants to settle with her dream man.

She explained in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo that the thought of being married becomes annoying at some point because people placed too much priority on it.

“I respect the institution of marriage as my parents were married till they died, and they had a beautiful relationship.

“The problem is at some point, it begins to annoy you because of how much importance people have placed on it.

“I do want to marry, and I want to get it right once and for all but in honesty we make such a big deal of it and also pressure people into it.

“When they eventually rush into this union, they make mistakes because they were only trying to please people,” she said.

The actress earlier revealed that she’s currently in a relationship with Fidelis Anosike of The Daily Times publisher.

Rita disclosed this when she shared their picture in a matching outfit as she wished her fans ‘Merry Christmas’ in 2020.

The actress shared the photos on her Instagram page to wish her followers a Merry Christmas. 

Miss Dominic, who wore matching outfits with her partner, captioned the photos: “Merry Christmas” and it also came with love and kiss emojis.

We hear the two are engaged and planning a big wedding sometime next year!

This was after the veteran actress shared a picture crushing on herself on social media.

Reacting to the post, the fan commented that her mates are using the yet-to-be-released iPhone 12 and she is till stuck with iPhone 6.

“Your mates dey use iPhone 12, you still dey use iPhone 6, aunty you need to upgrade,” the fan wrote.
