Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has strongly condemned the abuse of power in politics, the corporate world, workplaces, and households as a means to promote selfish interests or gain undue advantage.

Rev. Wengam was speaking at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols hosted by the Parliament of Ghana at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.

“In the name of acquiring wealth, attaining political positions, or gaining promotion in the workplace, some people use all sorts of wicked means to mistreat or eliminate their perceived enemies. This is what King Herod attempted against baby Jesus. Such crude methods must be eschewed by political leaders and private individuals alike,” he urged.

President John Dramani Mahama attended the event and participated in a scripture reading. Other readings were delivered by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror; the Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor Amin Alhassan; and representatives of both the Majority and Minority leaders in Parliament.

Rev. Wengam, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance (AAGA), highlighted reconciliation as a critical lesson from the Christmas story.

“The Christmas story is meaningless unless humanity takes resolute steps to turn away from sin and seek reconciliation with God, who alone guarantees success in life. We must reconcile with God vertically and with our neighbours, colleagues, spouses, and children horizontally,” he said.

He also referenced the obedience of Joseph and Mary to a census decree after Jesus’ birth, noting that “God would not do by a miracle what people must accomplish through responsibility, common sense, and simple obedience.” He stressed the importance of law-abiding citizens and political leaders pursuing a national vision that transcends narrow partisan interests, guided by strong moral values.

Rev. Wengam reminded the audience that the powerful Roman Empire fell due to moral failures, particularly sexual immorality, warning that Ghana must not repeat similar mistakes.

He further called on the Government, Parliament, and other state institutions to do more to protect human rights and advance the interests of Ghanaians. “Security agencies should intensify efforts to protect civilians, while citizens must prioritise personal safety and security,” he added.

Rev. Wengam dedicates temple at Ada Foah to mark Cedar Mountain Chapel’s 15th anniversary https://www.adomonline.com/rev-wengam-dedicates-temple-at-ada-foah-to-mark-cedar-mountain-chapels-15th-anniversary/ Sat, 25 Oct 2025 05:33:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592246 The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has dedicated a legacy temple at Ada Foah, sponsored by Cedar Mountain Chapel at East Legon in Accra, to mark the church’s 15th anniversary.

The Cedar Redemption Temple at Ada Foah is named after the late Rev. David Nabegmado, former Senior Pastor of Tema Central Assemblies of God, who was tragically murdered on a Sunday morning in December 2018. Rev. Nabegmado had devoted significant resources to training pastors and supporting missionary work in the Ada District of the Greater Accra Region.

Rev. Wengam explained that while reflecting on how best to commemorate God’s goodness to Cedar Mountain Chapel—where he serves as Lead Pastor—the Lord led the church to plant a new congregation at Ada Foah in 2024. The project, he said, “is in fulfilment of the Great Commission to go to all nations to preach the gospel.”

He further noted that although Cedar Mountain Chapel needed, and still needs, funds to complete construction work on its main auditorium, the legacy temple at Ada Foah was given utmost priority.

Rev. Wengam prayed that the new temple would become a house of refuge, breakthroughs, and blessings for the people of Ada Foah. He also commended Nene Sappor for donating the land for the temple, expressing hope that under his reign, the entire Ada Foah community would be enveloped in the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The Greater Accra East Regional Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Nelson Andrews Awintia, expressed gratitude to Rev. Wengam and members of Cedar Mountain Chapel for their magnanimous decision to build a house of God instead of hosting a party to mark their 15th anniversary.

The service, which was attended by several dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama, featured moving tributes, spiritual reflections, and heartfelt messages celebrating the life and legacy of Madam Deborah Wengam.

In an emotional tribute, Reverend Wengam found comfort in scripture, quoting Psalm 116:15-16:
“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the LORD.”

He noted that these verses brought him solace and strengthened his faith during his time of grief.

Addressing the mourners, Reverend Wengam openly shared the emotional strain of losing his mother, revealing the challenge of balancing his role as a spiritual leader while coping with his personal loss.

“As the son of this precious woman, the only surviving son, I cannot pretend that I am the strongest man,” he said, his voice thick with emotion.

‘God is telling you to lead through difficult times – Rev. Wengam to Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/god-is-telling-you-to-lead-through-difficult-times-rev-wengam-to-mahama/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 06:52:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2492076 The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, delivered an inspiring and encouraging message to President John Dramani Mahama, expressing his belief that divine guidance will lead Ghana through its present difficulties.

Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, Rev. Wengam affirmed that Ghana is on the brink of a transformative period, with God’s intervention steering the country toward renewal and progress.

“One chapter has closed in our political history, and God is ushering Ghana into a new season. If you observe what is happening now, it is clear that God is at work,” Rev. Wengam stated.

Addressing President Mahama directly, he remarked, “Your Excellency, God is telling you that although you have come at a time of great challenge, those who shape history are the ones who find solutions in difficult times. God says, ‘I will make a way in the wilderness.’”

Rev. Wengam concluded by offering reassurance to both the nation and the President, declaring, “I have come to proclaim to Ghana that God will make a way through the wilderness. Through you, Your Excellency, the Lord will lead the way forward.”

Prophecies that create fear and panic cannot be from God – Rev. Wengam https://www.adomonline.com/prophecies-that-create-fear-and-panic-cannot-be-from-god-rev-wengam/ Wed, 04 Jan 2023 16:15:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2202146 General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Rev Stephen Wengam, says prophecies must encourage and edify people.

According to him, doomsday prophecies that create confusion and fear are not from God.

The preacher who doubles as the Lead Pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel believes that “prophesy must come to build, to encourage, to strengthen.”

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, on Wednesday, he explained that delivering prophecies required some level of wisdom and ethics.

He also mentioned that some predictions should not even be revealed in public because they can be traumatic for the victim’s family and loved ones.

“Look at my daughter and my son, and you come on radio and say that I saw Pastor Wengam dead, do you know the trauma you’ll take my wife and children through?” he quizzed.

The General Superintendent added that there are times that he gets revelations but instead of telling the persons involved, he rather prays about them depending on the person’s level of faith.

Rev Wengam also believes that the system must be sanitized because the way prophecies are handled is problematic.

Prophesying in churches is becoming a frequent occurrence, especially ones that project fear and anxiety among individuals.

Last year, the Inspector General of Police COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare reiterated his caution against doom prophecies during watch night services.

This notwithstanding, some pasters, notably, Rev Owusu Bempah and Nigel Gaisie prophesied doom on 31st December, 2022.
