Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, has dismissed claims that President John Mahama is terminating the appointments of employees hired under the previous administration.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, February 28, he described the allegations made by the Minority Leader after the State of the Nation Address (SONA) as deliberate distortions and propaganda.

“President Mahama is not sacking everybody employed under the last administration. That is not what is happening. If you were employed before the transition, you are fine,” he stated.

Using his own ministry as an example, Ablakwa explained that employment records showed financial clearance was granted by the Finance Ministry as far back as July, with budget allocations made for hiring additional staff that year. He noted that while some employees received their appointment letters in November and December, the recruitment process had started much earlier.

“At the Foreign Ministry, I have explained to the President that what we have seen is that the process started much earlier, so not a single person at the Foreign Ministry is being dismissed,” he said.

He added that similar assessments had been conducted in other ministries, confirming that employees hired through due process were not being let go. However, he emphasized that the real concern was “malicious recruitments” made after the elections, which any government would scrutinize.

Ablakwa advised future administrations to recruit at the right time rather than delaying employment until after losing an election, which he argued creates a fiscal burden for the incoming government.

“What we can learn from this is that when we are in power and there is space to employ people, let’s do it early and not wait until after losing an election to create a fiscal burden for the next government,” he said.

All ongoing recruitments captured in 2024 budget; no new warrants issued since December 7 polls – Information Minister https://www.adomonline.com/all-ongoing-recruitments-captured-in-2024-budget-no-new-warrants-issued-since-december-7-polls-information-minister/ Wed, 18 Dec 2024 08:30:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485023 The Minister for Information and Spokesperson for the Government’s Transition Team, Fatima Abubakar, has clarified that all ongoing recruitments are captured in the 2024 budget, and no new warrants for recruitment have been issued since the December 7 general elections.

Her statement comes in response to threats from the Transition Team of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, which has vowed to reverse any last-minute recruitment decisions.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Tuesday, December 17, Ms. Abubakar emphasized that recruitment processes currently underway were pre-approved and budgeted for prior to the elections.

She assured the public that the government is adhering to established protocols and has not issued any fresh recruitment warrants since the polls.

“Since the election, not a single warrant has been issued for the recruitment of any persons,” she stated. “The Interior Ministry and the Health Ministry have already issued public releases informing nurses to go onto the portal to start their recruitment processes.”

Her remarks aimed to address concerns raised by the President-elect’s Transition Team over potential last-minute recruitments by the outgoing administration.

Ms. Abubakar underscored the government’s commitment to transparency in handling recruitment matters and ensuring alignment with the approved budgetary framework.

Fatima Abubakar speaks on last-minute recruitments concerns [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/fatima-abubakar-speaks-on-last-minute-recruitments-concerns-audio/ Thu, 12 Dec 2024 20:57:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483115 The Minister for Information, Fatima Abubakar, has clarified allegations regarding last-minute recruitments by the outgoing Akufo-Addo-led government.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, she stressed the legitimacy of the process and refuted claims of improper recruitment practices.

“If the recruitment is legitimate and according to the law, nothing stops the government from proceeding with it,” she stated.

She added that the current administration’s mandate has not expired and that recruitment processes take time, often requiring approvals and clearances from the Ministry of Finance.

“Before recruitment happens, you need to get clearance from the Finance Minister. It is not true that we started recruitment right after the elections. These processes have been ongoing for a long time,” she explained.

Her comment comes after Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s Transition Team, raised concerns over alleged last-minute recruitments and payments being made by the outgoing government.

Speaking to the media after the first day of the transition team’s work, he pointed out potential financial implications for the incoming administration.

But Madam Abubakar also challenged critics to provide evidence of any individuals being recruited without following due process.

“Bring proof of any individual who has not gone through the proper processes but is being recruited. It hasn’t happened,” she declared.

Regarding concerns about the government’s executive authority during the transition period, she remarked, “The Transition Act does not put an embargo on the executive authority of the President. There has not been any other directive or provision to stop these activities.”

She stressed the importance of maintaining a smooth and peaceful transition.

“The smoothest thing we have done as a country is to ensure peaceful elections and a formidable team from both sides to facilitate a smooth handing over,” she noted.

Fatima Abubakar reassured the public that no one would hold on to positions unlawfully.

“If January 7th comes, they can take over. We will be a responsive opposition and will respond accordingly. But for now, nothing stops legitimate recruitment.”
