The Nations FC captain did not make head coach Otto Addo’s 24-man selection for Ghana’s Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali next month.

Simpson, who earned his senior national team debut against Angola during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, has steadily established himself as an important figure within the squad.

Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum reassured fans that the 25-year-old remains very much part of the team.

“Razak Simpson is still part of the team despite being left out of the squad for the Chad and Mali games,” he said.

“There is always a bigger pool for the technical team to select their players from, so if there is a player not here, it doesn’t mean he is not part of the team,” he added.

Ghana will travel to N’Djamena to face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on Thursday, September 4, before returning home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium four days later.

The Black Stars are scheduled to open camp in Accra on Monday, September 1, ahead of these crucial fixtures.

We are willing to sell Razak Simpson if… – Nations FC CEO https://www.adomonline.com/we-are-willing-to-sell-razak-simpson-if-nations-fc-ceo/ Thu, 31 Jul 2025 08:41:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2561759

Chief Executive Officer of Nations FC, Kennedy Boakye-Ansah, has confirmed that the club is open to transfer offers for their captain, Razak Simpson, if the terms are favourable.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer throughout the 2024/25 season, drawing interest from top-tier clubs in Ghana and abroad.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Boakye-Ansah disclosed that although the club has received several inquiries, no official bids have been tabled.

“We’ve received a few offers, but nothing concrete yet. We won’t stand in the way of any player who wishes to leave, provided the deal is right for both the player and the club,” he stated.

“Razak Simpson is Black Stars material, so he certainly won’t come cheap—but at this stage, we’re not quoting any figures.

“There have been approaches from clubs in Algeria and Albania, as well as interest from two local sides,” he added.

Simpson recently featured for Ghana at the 2025 Unity Cup in London and was named Home-Based Male Player of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards.

He joined Nations FC in 2023 following a move from the West African Football Academy (WAFA).

Razak Simpson’s absence will not affect us – Nations FC chief https://www.adomonline.com/razak-simpsons-absence-will-not-affect-us-nations-fc-chief/ Fri, 30 May 2025 09:23:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2540066 Nations FC Brands Manager, Kennedy Boakye Ansah, remains confident that the team will perform well against Basake Holy Stars despite the absence of key defender Razak Simpson.

Simpson, a vital figure in Nations FC’s campaign this season, is currently away on international duty with the Black Stars in London, participating in the Unity Cup.

The promising centre-back featured for the entire 90 minutes in Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Nigeria at the G-Tech Community Stadium earlier this week.

“Fortunately for us, we have a very solid squad, so inasmuch as we would have loved to see Razak Simpson in the game against Holy Stars, we have a worthy replacement for him,” Boakye Ansah told Citi Sports.

“We will miss his presence on the field, but in terms of the team, I’m sure we have a worthy replacement for Razak Simpson,” he added.

Nations FC currently sits atop the league table with 60 points and will be aiming to extend their lead and move a step closer to clinching the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, Simpson is expected to be in action again when Ghana faces Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff at the G-Tech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Asare, Simpson, Opoku join Black Stars camp ahead of Unity Cup in London https://www.adomonline.com/asare-simpson-opoku-join-black-stars-camp-ahead-of-unity-cup-in-london/ Sun, 25 May 2025 17:54:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2538162 Ghana Premier League trio Benjamin Asare, Razak Simpson, and Kwame Opoku have been called up to the Black Stars camp for the upcoming Unity Cup scheduled to take place in London later this month.

The players departed Ghana on Friday night, heading to the UK for the maiden edition of the friendly tournament.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who made his senior debut during Ghana’s double win in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, has cemented his place in the national setup. He travelled soon after helping his club secure a 3-1 victory.

Nations FC defender Razak Simpson, a pivotal figure in his side’s push at the top of the Premier League table, will miss their crucial encounter against Samartex due to his international duties.

Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku, currently in fine form for the Porcupine Warriors, will also be unavailable for their game against Bibiani GoldStars.

Meanwhile, Belgian-based midfielders Lawrence Agyekum and Abu Francis are expected to join the camp on Saturday.

Ghana will open their Unity Cup campaign with a blockbuster match against Nigeria on May 28 at the Gtech Community Stadium, home of English Premier League side Brentford. The losing side will play in the third-place playoff, while the winner proceeds to the final on May 31.

The Black Stars are scheduled to officially open camp on Sunday, May 25. The Unity Cup forms part of their preparations for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Chad in September.

2025 AFCONQ: Razak Simpson’s Black Stars call-up long overdue – Nations FC coach https://www.adomonline.com/2025-afconq-razak-simpsons-black-stars-call-up-long-overdue-nations-fc-coach/ Tue, 12 Nov 2024 06:34:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2470807 Nations Football Club head coach, Kassim Mingle Ocansey, has applauded Razak Simpson’s first call-up to the Black Stars, describing it as well-deserved and long overdue.

Simpson, a central defender and standout performer in the Ghana Premier League, has earned a spot in Otto Addo’s 25-man squad for the final matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Mingle expressed his excitement over the selection, highlighting Simpson’s impressive form in the league.

“Razak Simpson absolutely deserves this. His call-up to the Black Stars should have come sooner,” Mingle remarked.

He also emphasized the club’s readiness, noting, “We are building a strong team, so if any player is unavailable, we’ll have capable replacements.”

As one of only three players from the Ghana Premier League chosen for the qualifiers against Angola and Niger, Simpson joined the Black Stars camp on Monday and completed his first training session at Accra Sports Stadium.

The team will continue training today before departing for Luanda on Wednesday. Ghana aims to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco despite a challenging start to their campaign.

The Black Stars are set to play Angola on November 15 at Estádio 11 de Novembro and will return home for a match against Niger Republic three days later.

Currently sitting third in Group F with two points from four games, the Black Stars trail Angola and Sudan in the standings.
