Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the NDC, Rashid Tanko Computer, expressed the party’s confidence in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story, insisting that the case lacks merit.

“We are confident that tomorrow they will dismiss it. They have no business being at the Supreme Court. It has no basis, and we are very sure that the law will do justice by dismissing it. They [the NPP] have no case,” Mr Tanko stated.

The comments come ahead of the Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing on Tuesday of an application filed by Matthew Nyindam over the Kpandai parliamentary seat. Mr Nyindam is seeking to overturn a High Court judgement that annulled his 2024 election victory.

Responding to questions on whether all parties involved had been properly served with court processes, Mr Tanko disclosed that the NDC and its candidate, Daniel Wakpal, had not been officially notified as of Monday, December 15.

He added that he had personally contacted the party’s candidate, who confirmed that he was not aware of any service of process.

“I called him, and he said he is not aware and that he has not been served. So, well, let’s see what happens,” Mr Tanko added.

He further stated that since the NDC candidate has not been served, the hearing cannot happen.

The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to have significant implications for the ongoing dispute surrounding the Kpandai seat and the planned parliamentary rerun in the constituency, which is scheduled for December 30.

How I got the name ‘Computer’ –Rashid Tanko explains https://www.adomonline.com/how-i-got-the-name-computer-rashid-tanko-explains/ Sat, 25 Oct 2025 05:22:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592240 The enduring nickname, “Computer” of Tanko Rashid, the Deputy National Elections Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is a direct legacy of his extraordinary talent in the classroom, dating back to his early academic days.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), revealed in a recent interview on JoyNews’ Personality Profile that the name was bestowed upon him by a mathematics teacher impressed by his calculative speed and conceptual clarity.

The nickname, which has become so ubiquitous that many in Ghana know him only as “Computer,” stemmed from his ability to grasp and solve complex problems faster than his peers.

Mr. Tanko explained that the formative incident occurred during a mathematics lesson where the teacher, whose accent or “slang” at the time was difficult for many of his classmates to understand, relied on him as a personal teaching assistant.

“I was the only person who could understand what the lady was doing. Wow. So I was more or less like a PA to her,” he recalled. The teacher would complete a lesson and then turn to him to simplify the concepts for the rest of the class.

“She will finish and say, ‘Okay, Tanko, come and explain to your colleagues. They seem not to understand what I’m doing.'”

Mr. Tanko said that Mathematics and Science were his best subjects, a direct result of his innate abilities. He described his proficiency in the subject with the analogy, “Math was like drinking water to me.”

The nickname was a direct acknowledgement of his mental processing speed, which the teacher likened to a machine. Mr. Tanko noted that he could often predict the solution before the lesson’s methodology was fully articulated.

“She used to call me ‘computer,’ and I didn’t understand what a computer was, but she was calling me ‘computer,'” he stated. “I’m sure because of the way I used to work maths, and then she will bring the formulas—I’ll even get the answers before we start putting it together and all this. So that’s how the name came about.”

A separate report confirmed this detail, stating that on one math examination, Mr. Tanko scored 98 out of 100, while the next highest student scored 57, prompting his teacher, reportedly Madam Katherine, to exclaim, “This is a computer man.”

The name, which started as an academic compliment, quickly caught on among his peers and became an indelible part of his identity.

“So from that area she gave the computer, computer. “She started calling [me] ‘computer, computer,’ and well, I say I have to just take the name,” he said.

Though his career path eventually took him from pure science into IT lecturing and now to the strategic hub of the NDC’s election directorate, his nickname remains a constant testament to his early intellectual brilliance, demonstrating the foundational role of mathematical precision in his highly analytical political work today.

We won’t accept Okyere Baafi’s apology; he must resign – NDC’s Tanko-Computer https://www.adomonline.com/we-wont-accept-okyere-baafis-apology-he-must-resign-ndcs-tanko-computer/ Wed, 03 Sep 2025 07:42:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2574289 Deputy National Elections Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has rejected the apology issued by New Juaben South MP, Michael Okyere Baafi, following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the Akwatia by-election.

According to him, the lawmaker must either honour his pledge to resign or face public accountability in Parliament.

“We are going to Michael Okyere Baafi’s constituency. He has apologised, but we are not accepting his apology. He must resign. If he doesn’t resign, Ghanaians will not take politicians seriously.

We must be serious. They must hold us to our words. Whatever comes out of my mouth, they must take it seriously. I can’t just stand here and make allegations, say certain things, and then within 24 hours apologise,” Tanko-Computer said.

Recalling Baafi’s confidence before the results were declared, he noted:

“Do you know that he came in when we were about to start the collation, beaming with smiles, telling me that ‘we are winning,’ until I showed him the results on my phone that ‘my friend, you have lost the election, and I’m coming to your constituency for the by-election,’ and then he started perspiring. That’s when he realised things had changed.”

The NDC official stressed that Baafi must be held accountable for his own words.

“The gentleman made a categorical statement: ‘I will resign.’ Let us go and test their strength in that constituency and see whether that is truly an NPP stronghold. That’s why he felt confident to say he would resign. He was here with us, and we are going to hold him to it,” he added.

Mr. Tanko-Computer further warned that the NDC would escalate the matter if Baafi failed to act.

“If he doesn’t, I will write to the Speaker of Parliament, and he must apologise on the floor of Parliament so that the whole public will see who he is. People like him must allow decency in our politics so that Ghanaians will respect us,” he declared.

We didn’t know Omane Boamah was traveling – Tanko Computer on his final hours https://www.adomonline.com/we-didnt-know-omane-boamah-was-traveling-tanko-computer-on-his-final-hours/ Thu, 14 Aug 2025 08:28:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2566914 Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Rashid Tanko-Computer, has revealed that the late Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, never informed close colleagues about his trip on the day of the tragic military helicopter crash.

“In fact, in the morning, we had a close discussion with Dr Omane Boamh around 7 am. It was virtual. Because he mostly does meetings virtually,” he said on JoyNews’ PM Express.

The Acting CEO of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) described Dr Boamah as a man who valued time.

“He was a type who wanted to use that maximise time, instead of people coming together, sitting around, he would say, ‘Let’s use the social media platforms to do our discussions.’ So most of our meetings were held virtually in the run-up to the 2024 election.”

Mr Tanko-Computer recalled first working with him in 2023 when they met at then-candidate John Mahama’s office.

“That was the day I got to know that NPP were out for trouble in the 2024 election.”

On the morning of the crash, Dr Boamah was deeply engaged in election strategy.

“Around 7.45 am, Dr Omane was giving us strategies on how to go about the Akwatia by-election. He gave us all this strategy because Dr Omane was a master planner. He was behind all these things that we’re doing [in winning elections].

“He will sit down, put pen and paper together, map out the strategy, and say, ‘You go and handle this and that,’ and sit back. And we’ll go and bring him an A+. That is how he was.”

Mr. Tanko Computer stressed that nothing in their conversation hinted at his travel plans.

“So that morning, we had finished all this thing, and were to report back to him by evening, but he didn’t tell us that he was travelling. None of us knew he was going to travel.”

The helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District claimed the lives of Dr Omane Boamah, another cabinet minister, and six others.

President John Mahama has ordered a high-level investigation into the cause.

NDC’s Tanko-Computer defends his PhD amid public scrutiny [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/ndcs-tanko-computer-defends-his-phd-amid-public-scrutiny-video/ Wed, 11 Jun 2025 17:07:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2543815 Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and acting CEO of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, has responded to questions about the legitimacy of his academic qualifications following recent public doubts.

Speaking on JoyPrime’s Prime Morning Show, he dismissed accusations challenging his credibility and reiterated his background as a seasoned lecturer.

“I am a lecturer and I have taught students for a very long time. Matters like this, when you give them attention, I cannot respond to people like that,” he said. “My students have never failed. I don’t give credibility to people like that.”

He stated that he earned his PhD from Kingsnow University, an online institution, enrolling in 2012 and completing the programme in 2016.

“I think I have to go back to the classroom and teach some people sense in education,” he added.

However, inconsistencies have emerged regarding his academic claims. On 11 December 2016, Mr Computer made a Facebook post thanking “God and one Professor Alex” for conferring upon him a PhD in Public Administration from Kingsnow University – a detail that appears to differ from earlier statements about his qualification.

The controversy surrounding Mr Computer’s credentials follows a similar incident involving one Dr Sansa Daly, who was recently accused of falsely claiming to be a medical doctor after asserting she graduated from a top university in the United States.

The public, particularly users on Facebook, have demanded thorough verification to confirm the legitimacy of such claims.

In response to critics on social media, particularly from one Sir Obama Pokuase, a known NPP sympathiser, questioning his credibility, Mr Computer remarked: “So his [Sir Obama Pokuase’s] government was in power for eight years, and at that time, was he sleeping or was he in Jamaica? He didn’t know this, and I worked under them for eight years. I don’t respond to “idiots”, that’s why I don’t know him.”

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), has in recent times raised concerns about the use of fake academic titles. While Mr Tanko maintains that his degree is genuine, questions remain about the accreditation status of Kinsnow University, which some critics argue is not recognised to offer such qualifications.

According to GTEC, the misuse of honorary titles contravenes the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023) and damages public confidence in the country’s educational system.

The Commission stressed that only accredited institutions are permitted to award honorary degrees, and recipients should not present them as academic qualifications.

2024 polls: NDC threatens to storm EC office https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-ndc-threatens-to-storm-ec-office/ Fri, 16 Aug 2024 19:12:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2434995 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned of potential actions against the Electoral Commission (EC) due to the delay in releasing the provisional voter’s register for the upcoming December elections.

The NDC had earlier urged the EC to release the provisional register ahead of the scheduled exhibition exercise.

The party mentioned that the EC had committed to providing the register to political parties by Friday, August 16, 2024.

However, when NDC representatives visited the EC office on the appointed date, they were turned away.

In an interview with Accra based Citi News, the NDC’s Deputy IT Director, Rashid Tanko Computer, expressed frustration over the situation and hinted at organizing protests at the EC office if the register is not released promptly.

“We were told that the register was not ready and that they would inform us when it was. This is completely unfair.

“Meanwhile, we have information that the 2024 register, including the 2023 entries and the recent mop-up registrations, has already been printed. So, why are they withholding it from us?

“This is baffling. We’re urging the public to put pressure on the EC to release the register immediately. With just four days left before the exhibition, it’s unacceptable for a major political party like the NDC not to have the register.

“That’s why we’re calling on the public. If the EC doesn’t release the register, we’ll mobilize and demand it. It’s our legal right according to the C.I.,” he stated.
