He was defeated by veteran highlife musician, Bessa Simons.

The livid musician “cursed” those who took money from him with the promise of voting for him as next MUSIGA President but failed to honour it.

According to Ras Caleb, he toured all the regions of Ghana and had firsthand information of how things were poorly managed.

He indicated that, the members had assured him of their support as next President to make things better for the union.

“The members who took money from me and didn’t vote for me should continue to wallow in poverty. I have a lot of things I am currently doing and I will prefer to continue doing them than to waste my time with this MUSIGA administration,” he said.

Speaking with Graphic Showbiz after the elections, Ras Caleb said he cannot work with the new MUSIGA administration because they are “corrupt and lack vision”.

The MUSIGA elections took place across the regions of Ghana with Ras Appiah Levi gaining 66 votes, while Bessa Simons polled 324 after the votes were collated.

Other elected executives are Rev Dr Yawson (1st Vice President), Abena Ruthy (2nd Vice President), S. K. Agyemang (General Secretary), Rev Eyison (National Treasurer), Rev Gifty Ghansah (National Welfare Officer) and Chizzy Wailer (National Organiser).

MUSIGA is weak, that’s why our legends die weak – Ras Caleb https://www.adomonline.com/musiga-is-weak-thats-why-our-legends-die-weak-ras-caleb/ Wed, 06 Oct 2021 20:22:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2025013 Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, has bemoaned the structural failure of the Union over the years.

He says MUSIGA has done very little to promote and build a strong support system for Ghanaian musicians, a development he has described as worrying and disappointing.

According to him, many musicians lose their lives after years of financial struggles because the Union does not put measures to enhance its members’ welfare.

“MUSIGA is like the empty barrel that makes that kind of noise without any water in it. I am talking as an eye witness and as somebody who has gone down to serve in the lowest levels.

“The Union is weak, the structures are weak, so our members are also weak. Not only the legends [are weak but] all the musicians because we have no one defending us [and] seeking our welfare,” he lamented.

In an interview on Showbiz Review on Hitz FM, Wednesday, Ras Caleb blamed the national leadership of MUSIGA for the poor states of many musicians, citing the death of late Highlife legend, Nana Ampadu, as an example.

“When you’re sick, and you don’t let people know, you won’t be healed. For how long will the government be supporting the Union to stand on its feet?

“MUSIGA can not fight for its members. We wait till someone is dead before we begin putting pressure on the presidency and companies,” he added.

Obour, 4 other MUSIGA executives in ‘trouble’ https://www.adomonline.com/obour-4-other-musiga-executives-in-trouble/ Mon, 25 May 2020 12:44:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1799781 Former president for the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour, and four other executives have been sued.

The plaintiff is the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the union, Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi.

The four others are acting MUSIGA President, Mr Henry Bessa Simons, Acting 1st Vice President Rev. Dr Thomas Harry Yawson, National Treasurer and Acting Administrator, Mr Samuel Kofi Agyeman and Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, Director of Communications and Special Projects.

A statement issued by Mr Appiah-Levi, who doubles as an aspiring President, alleges that the administration elected to steer affairs of the union were not transparent whatsoever, adding they left office without handing over notes.

Consequently, he finds it prudent to request for a forensic audit and accountability of the administration of the former MUSIGA president.

This is in account of the administration’s leadership of service at MUSIGA from 2011 to date.

MUSIGA elections: Parties to discuss settlement out of court https://www.adomonline.com/musiga-elections-parties-to-discuss-settlement-out-of-court/ Tue, 15 Oct 2019 13:11:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1712923 The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is set to hold talks with the counsel of presidential aspirant Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi to settle the election dispute out of court.

The court on Monday, October 14, adjourned the hearing of the suit filed by Mr Appiah-Levi, against the association, over the conduct of National Executive Committee to November 6, 2019.

But, Mr Ahumah Bosco Ocansey, the Communications Director MUSIGA, told the Ghana News Agency that, they were set to reach an agreement with the counsel of Ras Caleb for an out of court settlement, which would be made formal when the case is called on November 6, 2019.

“So, we are taking steps to make the decision possible and I’m sure the counsel would put this forward to the judge when the case is being heard,” he told Ghana News Agency.

This development would come as good news for the association, as they hope to elect new executives to spearhead their activities for the next four years.

Ras Caleb is contesting legendary musician Bessa Simons for the presidency after the end of Bice Osei Kuffour’s (Obour) eight-year reign as the President of the union.

Ras Caleb in his writ of summons filled in July, was seeking a declaration that the current voters register compiled by the Election Committee of the MUSIGA is not credible and same cannot in its flawed state be used for the conduct of the forthcoming 2019 National Executive Committee MUSIGA Elections to guarantee a fair and transparent outcome.

He also wanted the Election Committee to compile afresh an authentic and credible voter register for their elective congress.
