Ghanaian rapper Ko-Jo Cue has said that he prefers not to perform at events that feature too many artistes.

He made this comment while responding to a question about how he felt when he was not billed for Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Homecoming, which was held on September 27, 2025 in Kumasi.

Speaking on DayBreak on Hitz FM, Ko-Jo Cue explained that when there are too many performers at a show, fans often fail to appreciate or even remember most of the acts, except those who headline.

“I have a love-hate relationship with shows that have everyone on it. It’s not helping our show culture, because every artiste is on every show, so why won’t one save their money to attend Rapperholic instead?” he said.

He noted that after such concerts, attention usually centres on only a few performers, while the rest are easily forgotten.

He further criticised the repetitive nature of lineups at major events, saying it discourages audiences from attending.

“There are too many people billed on a show. I think a Sark show should have about two more artistes and himself, and that’s it. So that when people go for other shows, they know it’s different and have more experiences,” he said.

Ko-Jo Cue, known for his lyrical depth and storytelling, has produced notable works such as You Alone, Rich Dad Poor Dad, For My Brothers, and Winners.

He has also collaborated with artistes like Shaker, M.anifest, Worlasi, Ayisi, and Fameye, earning respect as one of Ghana’s finest contemporary rappers.

He is currently out with a new song titled ‘Tontonte,’ which features Ofori Amponsah and Arathejay.

Rapperholic: Kumasi dances through rain, calls for larger roofed entertainment auditorium https://www.adomonline.com/rapperholic-kumasi-dances-through-rain-calls-for-larger-roofed-entertainment-auditorium/ Mon, 29 Sep 2025 09:52:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2583495 The rains came first. Intermittent showers swept across Kumasi on Saturday night, September 27, falling hard on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium where thousands of music lovers had gathered for the ‘Rapperholic: The Homecoming’ concert.

The downpour threatened to disrupt what was billed as one of the biggest concerts in the city’s history. Equipment was soaked, the pitch turned slippery, and fans shivered under raincoats, hoodies, and umbrellas.

But instead of scattering, the crowd stood firm. Each time the skies opened, Kumasi’s fans only grew louder, dancing and singing through the showers as if the rain itself had become part of the performance.

Against this backdrop of resilience, the much-anticipated concert, headlined by Ghana’s rap heavyweight, Sarkodie, transformed the stadium into a festival of sound, energy, and pride. From the moment the first lights hit the stage, Kumasi declared it was ready for a night of history.

And the performers delivered. Sarkodie, true to his reputation, commanded the stage with lyrical fire and the kind of charisma that has made him a household name across the continent.

The Asakaa Boys ignited homegrown pride, Olive the Boy and Kweku Flick had everyone cheering, Kofi Kinaata had the crowd chanting word-for-word, and Efya Nokturnal stunned with her powerhouse vocals.

Obrafuor and Reggie Rockstone, legends of Ghanaian hip-hop, made the most emotional performances of the night, reminding the crowd that the roots of hiplife still run deep.

Medikal brought the swagger with Shatta Wale and turned the stadium into a carnival.

But through it all, the rain never fully left. It fell, paused, and returned, as if testing Kumasi’s resolve. And Oseikrom answered with defiance, soaked to the bone, yet unshaken. Rather than scatter, they danced harder, sang louder, and proved that their love for the music and for the artists ran deeper than the weather. What could have been a spoiler became the very heartbeat of the evening.

The bigger reality

Still, the conditions exposed an uncomfortable truth. For all its size and cultural weight, Kumasi lacks a modern indoor venue capable of hosting large-scale concerts.

While Accra boasts auditoriums and conference centers, Kumasi’s biggest option remains the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, an open-air space vulnerable to the elements.

Saturday night’s rainfall raised a critical question: how many more world-class shows could Kumasi attract if it had the facilities to match its appetite for entertainment?

Sarkodie himself addressed the challenge head-on, acknowledging the setbacks even as he celebrated the turnout.

“Thank you, Kumasi, for showing up. We know some things didn’t go well. Yes, it rained, and other things went wrong as well. But it’s our first time and we have taken note. Next time we will do it better,” he told the crowd, his voice rising above their cheers.

“All the love you’ve shown to me, to Shatta Wale, and to all of us tonight is really impressive. I am grateful. This won’t end here, we will do this again next year,” he assured.

The rapper’s promise was met with thunderous chants that lingered long after he left the stage. For many in the audience, Rapperholic: The Homecoming was more than just a concert, it was validation, a moment of recognition for Kumasi’s place on the music map.

“I am very proud to be a Kumerican and I am happy to have witnessed this. It was raining but we were still in the rain single and dancing. I have never seen anything like this before, this is historic,” an attendee said.

“It’s been a wonderful experience. I have lost my voice due to singing and cheering all night. The rains came but we were steadfast. Our love for them run deep. As they have promised us next year, we will be expectant,” another said.

The show ended in the early hours of Sunday, with fans drenched but jubilant, their voices hoarse yet unbroken.

For Kumasi, the rain-soaked concert was both a victory and a reminder. The city’s appetite for music is undeniable, its loyalty unmatched.

Kumasi has the passion. Kumasi has the crowd. What it needs now is the stage it deserves.

Ghana’s biggest music heavyweights, Sarkodie and Shatta Wale, have reignited their brotherhood on the grand stage of Rapperholic Homecoming at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Once considered inseparable besties, the duo had drifted apart over industry tensions and creative differences.

But on Saturday night, they proved that no misunderstanding could outshine the bond forged through music and history.

At the peak of the concert, Shatta Wale made a surprise entrance onto the stage, and the stadium erupted.

Jubilation filled the air as fans chanted and screamed to welcome back a brotherhood many thought was lost forever.

Together, the two delivered back-to-back performances of their classic collaborations including Megye Wo Girl and Dancehall Commando.

The crowd’s response was electric, with thousands singing along word-for-word in a spectacle that will forever be etched in the memory of patrons.

The ShattaSark reunion has cemented its place as one of the iconic highlights of the concert.

The last time the duo shared a stage was in 2016, When Sarkodie flew home from the UK to support Shatta Wale at his “After The Storm” concert at the Independence Square.

Rapperholic 2025: Sarkodie’s majestic entrance wins fans over [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/rapperholic-2025-sarkodies-majestic-entrance-wins-fans-over-video/ Sun, 28 Sep 2025 06:22:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2583267 When it comes to stagecraft, Sarkodie knows how to make an entrance, and at this year’s Rapperholic, he proved once again why he wears the crown in Ghana’s rap game.

Skipping the usual gimmicks and unnecessary theatrics, the rapper kept his entrance simple yet powerful.

As fans roared in anticipation, a flaming backdrop lit up the stage with his iconic slogan “Obidi”, which set the perfect tone for what was to come.

Clad in an immaculate all-white outfit, Sarkodie stepped out with his signature calm confidence.

He greeted his audience not with words, but with dance moves laced with steeze, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Then came the moment all have been waiting for; as he launched into his hit song Messiah, the flaming “Obidi” backdrop transformed into a glorious crown, boldly affirming his reign in Ghana’s music scene.

Though the show had suffered delays, Sarkodie’s opening was enough to melt away frustrations and stir forgiving hearts.

Sarkodie promises ‘biggest Rapperholic yet’ in Kumasi https://www.adomonline.com/sarkodie-promises-biggest-rapperholic-yet-in-kumasi/ Wed, 24 Sep 2025 15:36:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2582076 Multiple award-winning rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known in Showbiz as Sarkodie, is promising an electrifying musical performance at his ‘Rapperholic’ event in Kumasi.

The artiste says the event which will assemble some of Ghana’s greatest music artistes will be his biggest concert to date.

Speaking on Luv FM’s Drive Time show, the BET award-winner said the “Homecoming” edition of Rapperholic is being put together with unmatched effort and energy, assuring fans of an unforgettable night.

“This is going to be my biggest Rapperholic yet. What we are trying to do here, is going to be hard for anyone to beat because we are putting in the best of everything we have for this one,” he said.

The rapper, who hails from Juaso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, described the Kumasi show as a personal milestone, calling it a return to his roots.

He also revealed that Rapperholic in Kumasi will not be a one-off event but the start of a musical tradition for the Ashanti Region.

Despite his long career of commanding stages around the world, Sarkodie admitted that he still gets nervous before mounting the stage, saying the feeling pushes him to give his best.

“I believe if you love something you are supposed to be nervous. When I feel nervous that’s what makes me put out my best,” he said.

He also disclosed having a “very big folder” of unreleased songs, including one with highlife legend Daddy Lumba that never came out.

Sarkodie says his passion for music goes beyond financial gain as he says his music journey has never been about chasing money, but rather a deep connection to the craft.

“I love money but I don’t do music because of money. I just love music, it’s not because I want to be commercial,” he said, adding that “music is spiritual and has the power to let you love what you don’t love”.

The rapper also shared his childhood aspiration of becoming a medical doctor despite his penchant for music.

“I love biology but I just can’t stand blood,” he noted.

Instead, he turned his creativity into art, drawing, painting, sketching and later studying graphic design at IPMC to sharpen his skills.

Touching on his friendship with dancehall star Shatta Wale, Sarkodie said they both value the same things in life but pursue them differently.

“Everything that Wale likes I like, what differs is our strategy to get those things we like. He likes money, I like money. He likes security, I like security,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be the centre-stage of musical attraction as patrons will be treated to unforgettable and vibrant performances from artistes including Shatta Wale, Gyakie, Kofi Kinaata, Skyface, JayBhad, among other surprising acts.

The award-winning rapper is urging fans to expect nothing short of an extraordinary experience when Rapperholic Homecoming makes history in Kumasi.

Sarkodie finally reveals his best rapper in Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/sarkodie-finally-reveals-best-rapper-ghana/ https://www.adomonline.com/sarkodie-finally-reveals-best-rapper-ghana/#comments Wed, 20 Dec 2017 13:43:42 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=779121 BET award winner, Michael Owusu Addo, known in showbiz as Sarkodie has revealed Ghanaian Hip-hop artiste, Strongman Burner known in real life as Osei Kwaku Vincent tops the ladder if he steps aside in the music industry.
According to him, the artiste signed on his Sarkcess record label stands tall when it comes to logical rap delivery.
Asked why he believes Strongman deserves the praises he is showering on him, Sarkodie said ‘Strongman has the timing, delivery and the soul. That’s why I took him on my label.’
He added that Strongman’s style of rap, lyrics and appropriate timing with regards to beats gets to his soul; a talent he believes no artiste has been able to demonstrate to him yet.
“On the real, I would say strongman. I think it’s been a while since I heard an artiste like that. Not because he is with me. When we were coming, it was very raw. I had no friend who was rapping. Strongman has the timing, delivery and the soul. That’s why I took him, he gets to me. He makes me laugh. He gets to me in all directions…,” Sarkodie said on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.
The rapper, who claims he stands for the truth, further urged his fans to believe in what they do to be successful in life.
“Finding the truth is very hard and that means knowing what you stand for. You shouldn’t let anyone come in between that. The truth I stand for is sharing my story with people….”
He continued that, “You need to stand for it and be stubborn. The greatest people celebrated stood for one thing they believed in. Being nervous is part of it but be determined and if you have that you can do whatever…” he said.
Sarkodie will be holding the 5th edition of his annual Rapperholic Concert at the Accra International Conference Centre on 25th December 2017.

'I do not have a beef with Obrafour' – Sarkodie https://www.adomonline.com/not-beef-obrafour-sarkodie/ Wed, 20 Dec 2017 13:32:16 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=779031 Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie has openly declared that there is no brawl residing between him and the legendary rapper, Edward Nana Poku Osei widely recognized as Obrafour.
Earlier this month, Obrafour released his ‘Kasahari’; a hardcore rap song whose lyrics hinted that the current crop of rappers are not living up to expectation hence he was still the best of all time.
Many deduced that due to some specific references, the song was directed at Sarkodie.
The rumours were more fueled when not long after that Sarkodie released ‘Almighty’, lamenting on why some people hated him and his craft.
But in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Wednesday, Sarkodie opened up saying ‘there is no friction between me and Obrafour.’
He insisted he was aware of the topical issue that circulated in the media but he and Obrafour ‘had a conversation and laughed about it.’
According to the BET award winner born as Michael Owusu Addo, ‘for the consumers and media, the story [might] sounds nice but the point is none of them is true.’
Sarkodie stressed that he recorded the song way back hence he couldn’t fathom why people will channel his song to that of the ‘Heavy’ hitmaker.
“It’s not true. When I did ‘Almighty’ is the same time I did this [‘Bars’] song. I have songs I have not released. I did it for certain artistes when I was underground.”
He, therefore, paid his respect to Obrafour saying ‘Just because he is handling the throne doesn’t stop me from dropping bars.’
Sarkodie will be holding the 5th edition of his annual Rapperholic Concert at the Accra International Conference Centre on 25th December 2017.
