His comments come following the departure of Otto Addo as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team after defeats to Austria and Germany during the March international window.

In the last six years, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has hired and fired four Black Stars coaches, with Otto Addo serving two stints with the national senior team.

Speaking to Connect FM, Gyambrah criticised the GFA’s recent approach to coaching appointments, describing the process as poorly planned and lacking the strategic direction needed for long-term success.

“When decisions are being taken to hire a coach for the Black Stars, the decision must be thought through so that you minimise chances of failure—but we did not do it that way,” he stated.

A new coach is expected to be confirmed in two weeks, according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kurt Okraku.

Otto Addo, who had a previous stint with the national team, was re-hired to bring stability and rebuild confidence, but results and performances appear to have fallen short of expectations.

As the GFA begins the search for a new head coach, the former FA chairman’s comments serve as both a critique and a caution, as the next appointment could shape the future of the Black Stars.

Ghana is set to make their fifth World Cup appearance, having been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

Clubs never proposed GFA presidential term limit extension – Ralph Gyambrah https://www.adomonline.com/clubs-never-proposed-gfa-presidential-term-limit-extension-ralph-gyambrah/ Mon, 11 Aug 2025 10:23:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2565704 Former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairman, Ralph Gyambrah, has refuted claims that clubs are behind a proposal to extend the presidential term limit of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

His comments come in response to statements by GFA General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, who, speaking on Asempa FM, said the proposal to increase the limit from two to three terms came from clubs, the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), and other Congress members.

The matter is expected to be discussed at the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress, scheduled to take place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Gyambrah, a former Executive Council member, insists that no club has supported such a move.

“Clubs never proposed an extension of the term of office for the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA),” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“It is about this extension of tenure of office that brought about the Anas exposé. I believe that even if we will consider the extension of the tenure of office for the president, it should not be now.

“Even the constitution governing our country allows the president only two terms in office, so I believe clubs and civil societies must wake up to ensure that this extension of tenure of office does not see the light of day,” he added.

Several leading football figures — including Kudjoe Fianoo, George Afriyie, Alhaji Grusah, Samuel Anim Addo, and Elony Amande — have already voiced opposition to the proposed amendment.

The Ordinary Congress is set for Tuesday, August 12.

Ralph Gyambrah rejects GFA President term extension proposal https://www.adomonline.com/ralph-gyambrah-rejects-gfa-president-term-extension-proposal/ Tue, 05 Aug 2025 10:02:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2563659 Former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairman Ralph Gyambrah has rejected proposals aimed at extending the tenure of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president.

Ahead of the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram, the Statutes Review Committee has recommended increasing the president’s term from two to three terms.

The proposal also includes a new leadership structure that would see two vice presidents appointed—one of whom must be a woman—to promote the development of women’s football in Ghana.

But in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Gyambrah, a former Executive Council member, argued that the proposed amendments do not address Ghana football’s most urgent concerns.

“The issues confronting Ghana football are not about the extension of the office for the president. There are issues like match-fixing and poor officiating, which must be dealt with,” he said.

He also questioned the justification for mandating a female vice president under the guise of aligning with global practices.

“If you say you want to align with what FIFA and CAF are doing, there is no woman as a second vice president.”

Gyambrah further expressed concern that the GFA’s current statutes haven’t been fully tested or implemented to warrant such changes.

“I don’t believe that you necessarily need a woman to be in there to empower women’s football. I believe that the statutes of the Football Association have not been tested. At the moment, I don’t believe we need a term limit extension.

“I believe that one person cannot develop the game, and so when your time is up, you leave for someone to come and help,” he added.

He also criticised the apparent passivity of club administrators during Congress sessions.

“I am surprised club administrators are not challenging issues at Congress. Congress has now become a talking series that is not helping the game,” Gyambrah said.
