I won’t post anything about my marriage on social media again — Rachel Appoh https://www.adomonline.com/i-wont-post-anything-about-my-marriage-on-social-media-again-rachel-appoh/ Fri, 26 Dec 2025 18:32:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614065 The former Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Rachel Appoh has shared deep personal reflections on her marital experiences saying she will no longer post anything about her family online.

Drawing from what she described as “terrible experiences” with marriage and social media, the former Minister for Gender Children And Social Protection announced a firm decision to completely keep her family life off online platforms.

“I have a terrible experience with marriage and social media posts, so I will never post my marriage on social media again,” she said. “I won’t post anything about my family, my husband or my children on social media — not at all.”

Speaking on a wide range of issues on Adom FM’s Work and Happiness, the former Legislator disclosed that she has been married twice, following a difficult first marriage that ended in divorce.

In her view, her earlier marriage was particularly painful because her former partner remarried before their divorce was finalized, an act she described as bigamy.

She said the experience left lasting emotional scars and shaped her current views on marriage and public exposure.

“Yes, I am married. I have remarried after my earlier divorce. I have been married twice,” she stated during the interview.

Hon. Appoh also confirmed that her current husband is not a politician, but a private individual, a decision she said was deliberate given her past experiences in public life.

While acknowledging that social media has both positive and negative sides, Hon. Appoh noted that public reactions to personal posts can be damaging, especially for public figures.

She explained that the impact of social media often depends on how people choose to interpret and react to what is shared, adding that negative commentary and scrutiny can take a serious toll on individuals and families.

2026 Budget captures Ghana’s hopes — Rachel Appoh https://www.adomonline.com/2026-budget-captures-ghanas-hopes-rachel-appoh/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 15:23:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602288 Former Gomoa Central MP, Rachel Appoh, has said the 2026 Budget reflects the hopes and priorities of Ghanaians, describing it as a defining moment for the government’s economic agenda.

Speaking on Accra FM, the former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection praised the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, presented to Parliament by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

She said the document represents a balanced effort to consolidate Ghana’s fragile post-crisis recovery while addressing public demands for relief from the high cost of living and supporting renewed economic growth.

Ms. Appoh commended the Mahama-led administration for allocating resources to pro-poor initiatives, including the School Feeding Programme. She urged strict monitoring of social intervention allocations to prevent leakages and ensure that the intended beneficiaries fully benefit.

She also lauded the new directive requiring School Feeding caterers to source foodstuffs from local farmers, calling it “a smart step toward strengthening the agricultural value chain and putting real money in the pockets of rural producers.” According to her, the move aligns with the government’s goal of boosting local production and reducing reliance on imported food commodities.

On infrastructure, Ms. Appoh welcomed the renewed focus on road development, particularly planned express routes within the Greater Kumasi area. She said improved road connectivity would enhance commerce, transportation efficiency, and regional integration while opening up underserved communities.

Commenting on the macroeconomic outlook, she praised the government’s progress toward achieving single-digit inflation, noting that price stability is crucial for restoring household confidence and encouraging business expansion. She further commended the planned capital injection into the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), saying it would “keep the lights on” and support productivity for homes and businesses.

Ms. Appoh also welcomed the scrapping of the COVID-19 levy as timely relief for Ghanaians struggling with high living costs. She urged traders to reflect improvements in inflation and tax reductions in the pricing of goods so that consumers feel the full impact of the government’s policies.

Highlighting key provisions in the 2025 budget themed “Resetting the Economy for the Ghana We Want,” she said the 2026 Budget builds on these gains. These include debt reduction initiatives, expenditure rationalization, payroll sanitization, and the abolition of taxes such as the e-levy and the withholding tax on lottery winnings.

She stressed that the combined effect of these measures demonstrates the government’s renewed commitment to fiscal discipline and inclusive growth.

Sammy Awuku should enforce legal action against Abena Korkor – Rachel Appoh [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/sammy-awuku-should-enforce-legal-action-against-abena-korkor-rachel-appoh-video/ Sun, 20 Mar 2022 15:31:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2093403 Former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Rachel Appoh, has asked Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Samuel Awuku, not to settle his case with Abena Korkor out of court.

The social media influencer and bipolar advocate was earlier reported to the Cyber Crime Unit in Ghana by the Managing Director of the National Lottery Authority, Samuel Awuku, after the she alleged that she’s had an intimate affair with him.

The specialised unit at the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, according to Abena Korkor, seized her phone after the report to further investigate the matter.

Reacting to this on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall, Rachel Appoh asked Sammy Awuku to never listen to “friends and family” who are begging on the sidelines for him to withdraw the case out of court.

She explained that, one of those who are facing the allegations must maintain their stand to prove the reasonable doubt that nothing has happened between them.

According to her, if Sammy Awuku presses on in court, it would pave the way for a judge to direct Abena Korkor to a medical facility if the need be.

She explained that she had dealt with people of Abena Korkor’s kind and they need necessary attention to come out of their pain.

For the past few days Abena Korkor has been trending on social media after she came out with a new set of list of men she has allegedly slept with.

The A-list celebrities included one top musician and two Ghanaian footballers.

Stop attacks on Adwoa Safo – Former NDC MP https://www.adomonline.com/stop-attacks-on-adwoa-safo-former-ndc-mp/ Tue, 08 Mar 2022 11:58:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2088488 A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Rachel Appoh, has appealed to Ghanaians to stop attacking the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, over her absence.

She said what was rather needed was for Ghanaians, especially members of the NPP, to pray and rally support for Ms Safo so that she could overcome any challenges she was going through.

In a statement, Ms Appoh observed that women in Ghanaian politics were often tagged to their disadvantage and that defeated calls for more women to enter politics.

She said Ms Safo was not the only MP who had absented herself from Parliament and yet nobody was talking about others who did same.

Support

Ms Appoh said Ghanaians must rather pray to support the on-leave Gender and Social Protection Minister instead of subjecting her to harsh public criticisms.

She noted that the Dome-Kwabenya MP was still serving her constituency wherever she was.

“May God bless all female activists and those supporting women in politics, especially we the young ones. Our story would be told one day,” she stated.

Background

Ms Safo was last seen in Parliament in December 2021.

Some of her colleagues including the MP for New Juaben South, Mr Michael Okyere Baafi have criticised her for holding the Majority caucus to ransom.

A former NDC Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Mr Ras Mubarak, has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to enforce constitutional provisions on absentee MPs.

He said it was time Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin applied the provisions of Article 97 (1) c of the Constitution and Parliament’s Standing Order number 16(1) and refer those MPs to the Privileges Committee.

He named the MPs as Sarah Adwoa Safo; Henry Quartey, the MP for Ayawaso Central; Ebenezer Kojo Kum, the MP for Ahanta West.

Per Article 97 (1)(C) of the 1992 Constitution, a Member of Parliament (MP) shall vacate his seat in Parliament “if he/she is absent without the permission in writing of the Speaker and he/she is unable to offer a reasonable explanation to the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges from 15 sittings of a meeting of Parliament during any period that Parliament has been summoned to meet and continues to meet”.

Per Standing Order 31 of the House, “In all cases of proceedings where a complaint is made of a breach of privilege or contempt of Parliament, Mr Speaker may direct that the matter be referred to the Committee of Privileges.”

Section 2 of Standing Order 164 provides that, “It shall be the duty of the committee, by order of the House, to enquire into any complaint of contempt of Parliament or breach of privilege or any matter of privilege which may be referred to it and to recommend to the House such action as the committee may consider appropriate.”

Former minister’s strong warning to GFA https://www.adomonline.com/enough-of-the-heart-breaks-former-minister-tells-gfa/ Tue, 08 Feb 2022 12:10:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2076960 Former Youth and Sports Committee Member in Ghana’s Sixth Parliament, Rachel Appoh, has lashed out at football Administrators in the country.

She said the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its allied agencies must stop toying with the hearts of Ghanaians following the abysmal management of Black Stars in the AFCON.

“Some Ghanaians support the national team with their hearts, the heartbreaks are too much, some pregnant women lose their babies, others give birth prematurely, the taxpayers’ money is also wasted,” she said.

Ghana was knocked out of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after losing 3-2 to Comoros.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Fire For Fire Show, she emphasised that the team in its current composition is not fit for purpose.

According to her, there is no shortcut in football and insisted that the GFA focuses on the local-based players.

“There must be transparency in the appointment of the coach for the Black Stars, the appointment should not always be between the administration and GFA.

“The process must be opened for others interested in the job to also apply, it must be competitive,” she said.

Ms. Appoh, who is also a former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, also indicated the need to revive interschool’s competitions to scout for talents who could feature for the national side.

In her view, this process could enhance the unity among the players rather than the usual assemble of different players from different international teams with different styles of play on the field.
