According to him, the lack of patience has landed a lot of people in unpleasant and regrettable situations.

Dr Ninkarb was reacting to the stabbing incident involving two lovers which has resulted in the death of one at Kasoa Adam Nana.

The girlfriend now deceased according to reports angrily stormed her lover’s home and slashed his neck over an alleged cheating.

Speaking to Adom News, the psychologist said that a minute of communication could have averted this tragic incident.

“People should not be quick to act based on hearsay. The first thing you should do is to stop whatever you are doing and take a deep breath. A lot of people have ended up in prison just because they refused to think for a second before acting,” he admonished.

Dr Ninkarb further encouraged people to take time and investigate what they hear before taking action.

Girl whose foster mother burnt her fingers needs Psychological attention – Clinical psychologist recommends https://www.adomonline.com/girl-whose-foster-mother-burnt-her-fingers-needs-psychological-attention-clinical-psychologist-recommends/ Wed, 25 May 2022 09:08:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2117975 A Clinical Psychologist with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Daniel Fordjour has recommended immediate and intensive psychological attention for Stephanie whose hand was damaged by a foster mother.

Nine-year-old Stephanie had her hand held in boiling water for taking two Ghana Cedis belonging to her guardian, without asking, to buy food.

The injury was managed at home for days until the fingers began deteriorating.

Responding to cases of child abuse, where victims often do not access support from the Social Welfare Department, Mr. Fordjour stated the psychological damage on the girl may be irreparable due to the lasting imprints of the incident on her mind.

“The child is a girl. She’s going to grow up to be a mother. She is going to have anxieties about how mothering another human being is because of what she’s gone through.

“This is a damage that is going to be difficult to repair. Even the physical ones we are struggling to do this. Psychological one will be much more difficult,” he said.

Stephanie has undergone two surgical operations at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and there is the fear of losing some of her fingers.

Speaking to David Akuetteh on Luv Fm, the Clinical Psychologist said the actions of the foster mother will not only affect the emotions of little Stephanie but her children, too.

“What this mother has done has caused a lot of traumas for the child, including the 5-month-old baby she’s breastfeeding.  Because it is already on social media. This child is going to grow up.

“By the time they start looking at videos on social media, they will find their mother there. Their mother’s name is going to be all around and they will find out what their mother had done,” he said.

Daniel Fordjour recommends intensive psychological attention for children who suffer abuse.

“Certain psychological help that will follow-up should go on for a while to deal with all the negative conditions that Stephanie might have formed in her own mind and even will be forming per the experiences she will face as she’s growing.

“This is a long-term kind of help that this child needs,” he added.

Shatta Wale should see a psychologist – Entertainment critic [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/shatta-wale-should-see-a-psychologist-entertainment-critic-watch/ Fri, 05 Jun 2020 16:52:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1806189 Entertainment critic, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, says he is convinced Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, needs the services of a psychologist in these times.

Answering a question on Showbiz Now on Joy Prime on what he thinks about Shatta Wale considering a time with a psychologist, he opined that, though it’s a difficult thing to say or suggest because of the way people perceive the idea of seeing a psychologist in Ghana, he would advise Shatta Wale and his handlers to try and let the artiste speak to a psychologist.

This is because he thinks it is weird for one person to have issues with almost every one he deals with and as such, it will be prudent for the artiste to sit down, reflect and assess himself and eventually speak to someone.

ShowBiz Now is aired on Joy Prime from Monday to Friday at 11:am.

Psychologist explains why it's better being single than married https://www.adomonline.com/psychologist-explains-better-single-married/ Mon, 07 Aug 2017 07:49:38 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=367541 Being single allows people to “live their best, most authentic and most meaningful life” and the idea of wedded bliss is largely a myth, a psychologist has claimed.
Professor Bella DePaulo told the American Psychological Association’s annual convention in Denver that she wanted to challenge the “conventional wisdom” that getting married helped people live longer, happier and healthier lives.
She said she had looked at more than 800 different academic studies carried out over the last 30 years that mentioned single people.
“The available findings are telling. For example, research comparing people who have stayed single with those who have stayed married shows that single people have a heightened sense of self-determination and they are more likely to experience ‘a sense of continued growth and development’ as a person,” said Professor DePaulo, of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
“Other research shows that single people value meaningful work more than married people do … another study of lifelong single people showed that self-sufficiency serves them well: the more self-sufficient they were, the less likely they were to experience negative emotions. For married people, just the opposite was true.”
There are 16.2 million single people in the UK, compared to 23.7 million married ones, according to Office for National Statistics figures for last year. In 2002, there were about 12.5 million single people and just over 23 million married ones.
Professor DePaulo, who described herself as “single, always have been, always will be”, said the reasons behind the relative popularity of unmarried life were “rarely acknowledged”.
“Increasing numbers of people are single because they want to be. Living single allows them to live their best, most authentic, and most meaningful life,” she said.
“Single people are more connected to parents, siblings, friends, neighbours, and coworkers than married people are, and when people marry, they become more insular.
“The preoccupation with the perils of loneliness can obscure the profound benefits of solitude.
“It is time for a more accurate portrayal of single people and single life – one that recognizes the real strengths and resilience of people who are single, and what makes their lives so meaningful.”
Professor DePaulo said married people were bolstered by the “relentless celebration of marriage and coupling and weddings that I call matrimania”.
“Single people, in contrast, are targets of singlism – the stereotyping, stigmatizing, marginalizing and discrimination against people who are single,” she said.
But academic studies did not support the prevailing idea of “get married, get happier and healthier”.
“People end up about where they were when they were single. In other ways, results are exactly the opposite of what we have been led to believe,” Professor DePaulo said.
“Scholars are learning more about the risks of putting too much relationship capital into The One, and the psychological benefits of investing in The Ones.
“They are also beginning to realize that genuine attachment relationships are not limited to romantic relationships or the bond between parents and young children.”
