The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MBDA, Joe Danquah, who outlined the projects he described as ‘game changer projects’ under the Ministry for Special Development Initiative said the projects were evident for Ghanaians to see.

Mr Danquah said between 2018 and 2019, over 1000 projects were initiated based on needs assessments conducted among local communities.

Most of the projects, he said, include sanitation, and for that matter, public toilets, mechanized boreholes, markets and warehouses.

“We have 142 toilets and 139 water projects in the Ashanti region; Eastern Region has 105 toilets and 105 water projects with the Bono Regions having 93 toilets and water projects,” he outlined.

For the warehouses; Ashanti and Eastern Regions have seven while the Bono Region has six. The Ejura warehouse that was commissioned recently is one of our projects,” he added.

Hon Danquah who was speaking on Adom FM‘s Dwaso Nsem Monday was optimistic the Authority would deliver on its mandate, on full scale within the 109 constituencies under its care.

He added that the Authority had embarked on other projects which are constituency-specific to satisfy the needs of the constituents also based on assessments to ascertain the basic infrastructural priorities of each constituency.

Among other things done by the Authority are the construction of mechanized boreholes at Asuogyaman and parts of Lower Manya Krobo; ultramodern toilet facilities with bio-digester, which will turn fecal waste into gas as well as markets at Somanya and Adukrom as well as two storey police station at Dompoase with bungalows and libraries at Nsawam.

The MBDA is a special-purpose vehicle established by the government to fast-track the socio-economic transformation of the Eastern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.

The IPEP, more commonly known as ‘$1 Million per Constituency’, is a flagship government initiative aimed at meeting critical infrastructure needs identified by local actors at constituency levels.

Under IPEP, each of the 275 constituencies is allocated the equivalence of $1 million annually, to be invested in infrastructure development initiatives of their choice, managed and implemented by three development authorities.

The Northern Development Authority and the Coastal Development Authority are the other two to supervise projects in the coastal, Central, Western and Volta regions, the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions respectively.

Yvonne Nelson slams Ghanaian businesses: They promise and fail & are stingy https://www.adomonline.com/yvonne-nelson-slams-ghanaian-businesses-promise-fail-stingy/ Wed, 14 Jun 2017 16:40:16 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=183231 Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has lambasted Ghanaian businesses, branding them as stingy having failed to support her Glaucoma Foundation after making promises.

The Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation (YNGF) was launched in 2010 in association with the Glaucoma Association of Ghana to educate the public on the causes, treatment and prevention of the disease, among other objectives.

Yvonne used her celebrity status to sensitize the public on dangers of glaucoma and to let people know that the disease is treatable.

The Foundation was designed to also create an effective monitoring system to help control existing cases and record new cases.

Speaking exclusively to 3news.com, the celebrated actress revealed that she had received numerous promises from Ghanaian businesses but hasn’t heard anything till date.

“I remember when I launched it, a lot of companies came out and said we are going to support you, this and that but till date nobody has. “Ghanaian companies are stingy; they will promise you and fail and make you talk, talk, talk sit down with the best proposal in the world but will just not take you seriously.

“The challenges we are having with the Glaucoma Foundation is money because we don’t have money to do anything.

“I have patients I buy medicines for but I won’t put it on social media and let the world see that I am buying xalatan or cusimolol or whatever for this person. “I believe God sees everything;

I don’t have to put it on social media and have the entire media crew post it up. “Randomly people will call me and say we have problems, we have this and that. I do it in the low because I believe God sees everything and I don’t have to put it on social media”.

She also appealed to government to subsidise glaucoma medications because they are too expensive “Eye drops like xalatan cost over GH¢170 and it will last you less than a month.

So, if you are a woman somewhere in the village around the Volta Region, where are you going to get money to get the xalatan?” she asked.

“It’s a serious disease and not something that we have to play with at all and we need government and the Ministry of Health to throw more light on it. They need to get on the ground and do something about glaucoma because the cases in Ghana are very alarming.”

Odike to support Akufo-Addo’s ‘1-district, 1-factory’ with four factories https://www.adomonline.com/odike-support-akufo-addos-1-district-1-factory-four-factories/ Fri, 31 Mar 2017 09:12:49 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=55641 The flagbearer of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in the 2012 elections, Akwasi Addai Odike, says he will embark on a project to get four factories to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s agenda for a factory in each district.

Mr. Addai Odike, who threw his weight behind the then opposition NPP ahead of the 2016 elections, said plans are far advanced to ensure that soon the four factories begin to create employment for the youth of Ghana.

The UPP man made these revelations on Thursday on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene hosted by Nana Yaw Opare. Odike was commenting on how President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is implementing his ideologies after winning the elections.

“I will do four of the 1-district- 1-factory,” he confidently stated. Enumerating his factories and where they would be located, Odike said the defunct Bolga Meat Factory in the Upper East Region would be revived to create more jobs. He said the factory will produce beef and leather to feed shoe industries and corned-beef for the market.

He added that he is also setting up a shoe factory in Ahodwo or Santase in Kumasi to also create jobs for the youth in Kumasi. Odike added: “I have secured a land at Akomadan to establish tomato paste.

We shall grow more tomato and produce tomato paste…we are talking to some Turkish [investors] to help us and we shall do that at Akomadan or Afram plains.”

He further added that he has a “garment factory also in Kumasi which was small scale.

I want to expand it to employ more because it is currently employing about 120 workers”. He said he wants to produce more cotton and “add value here so that we don’t have to export cotton”.

NPP nearly promised ‘one-man, one-wife’; can’t deliver on promises – MP https://www.adomonline.com/npp-nearly-promised-one-man-one-wife-cant-deliver-promises-mp/ Thu, 09 Mar 2017 16:54:56 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=18321 A member of parliament for Kumbungu in the Northern Region, Ras Mubarak says the Akufo-Addo government will not be able to achieve the numerous campaign promises made to Ghanaians in the run up to the 2016 general elections.

According to him, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his party made so many promises to the extent that they nearly promised ‘one-man, one-wife’ during the electioneering period.

He claimed those promises the call explained that the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) hauled several promises to Ghanaians which compelled them to vote for the NPP but most of them are not achievable in the next four years.

“The NPP should come and apologize to Ghanaians on where they cannot perform because the NPP nearly promised one-man-one wife”, the MP told Ghana Dadwene on Onua FM on Wednesday. Ras Mubarak said notwithstanding the sweet promises by the NPP, the Akufo-Addo government is currently “wobbling”.

He said though change is good because it helps one to see the difference, from how things are going the NPP cannot deliver on those promises.

“They can’t construct factories in all the districts. They can’t construct dams in all the districts [every village] in the three northern regions so they should start apologizing”.

He added: “if they will do it, it will help all of us but we know they cannot do it and they should apologize to Ghanaians so that we can forgive them”.
