During an engagement with the Secretary-General and representatives of organized labour, Mr George Twum-Barimah-Adu outlined his vision and strategic policies which seek to establish a supportive environment for local businesses to thrive as a major catalyst for socioeconomic development.

In addressing issues on pension, housing and welfare, the Presidential aspirant emphasized the significance of his ‘E-Sika’ initiative, saying it would be the ultimate game changer to replace the controversial e-Levy.

The ‘E-Sika’ policy, he said, would be a scheme specifically to address the housing needs of the country, aimed at ensuring that every Ghanaian owns a house.

The scheme will be a savings, which one could use the housing component to either make a down payment towards purchasing a house or to secure a mortgage towards a house.

Mr George Twum-Barimah-Adu stressed the need for further dialogue between political office seekers and labour unions to build a stronger framework which addresses not only personal welfare but also a platform for robust business operations for the transformation we want for this country.

Presidential aspirant remanded in alleged diversion of $7m public funds and property https://www.adomonline.com/presidential-aspirant-remanded-in-alleged-diversion-of-7m-public-funds-and-property/ Wed, 25 May 2022 08:40:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2117996 Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency has arrested a presidential aspirant of the ruling APC party just days to the party’s presidential primaries.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Rochas Okorocha in the capital, Abuja, on allegations of corruption involving diversion of 2.9 billion naira ($7m; £5.6m) of public funds and property.

The alleged offences were committed during his tenure as governor of the south-eastern state of Imo between 2011 and 2019. He has previously denied the accusations.

The 59-year-old politician is currently a senator. He is being detained by the EFCC.

Reports indicate there was a stand-off for hours between some of Mr Okorocha supporters and operatives of the anti-graft agency during the arrest at his residence.

His supporters say the arrest is an attempt to frustrate his presidential ambition.

But in a statement, EFCC said it was “left with no option” after Mr Okorocha had jumped the bail it granted him and also failed to honour invitations for questioning.

The EFCC has mounted a crackdown on corruption that has so far seen the arrest of the country’s accountant-general – who denies any wrongdoing.

Nigeria is due to hold elections in February next year to choose a successor to President Muhammadu Buhari, whose second term will end in May.

Irrespective of the number of times that Omoyele Sowore had failed in the presidential race, he has remained optimistic about emerging the President of Nigeria.

Omoyele Sowere stormed his country home, Ondo State, last weekend for consultation and to seek support ahead of the general elections.

Photos shared on his Instagram page captured the presidential aspirant and some youths inside a lake, playing and chatting together.

He captioned the photos: “For Swimmers Only: A political rally inside a lake! Sowore for president we can’t continue like this.”

Naija News recalls Omoyele Sowore recently slammed Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo for his support for South East presidency.

In an interview on Arise News, Sowore said the call for a South-East presidency is an attempt to divide Nigerians along the ethnic lines, adding that only Nigerians should determine who leads them in 2023.

The presidential aspirant claimed that the call by some politicians for political parties to zone their presidential tickets to the south is undemocratic and should not be encouraged.

Sowore said competency and great character should be parameters to choosing the next president in 2023 and not zoning.

He added that, an Igbo presidency will not make a difference if the candidate is not the right person to lead.
