Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi did it in dramatic style – dressed in military-like uniform and surrounded by masked police officers with automatic weapons, he called a press conference to accuse Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of having ties to criminal gangs.

He also said his boss had closed down an elite unit investigating political murders after it uncovered a drug cartel with tentacles in the business sector, prison department, prosecution service and judiciary.

“We are on combat mode, I am taking on the criminals directly,” he declared, in an address broadcast live on national TV earlier this month.

South Africans have long been concerned about organised crime, which, leading crime expert Dr Johan Burger pointed out, was at a “very serious level”.

One of the most notorious cases was that of South Africa’s longest-serving police chief, Jackie Selebi, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2010 after being convicted of taking bribes from an Italian drug lord, Glen Agliotti, in exchange for turning a blind eye to his criminal activity.

But Gen Mkhwanazi’s intervention was unprecedented – the first time that a police officer had publicly accused a cabinet member, let alone the one in charge of policing, of having links to criminal gangs.

The reaction was instantaneous. Mchunu dismissed the allegations as “wild and baseless” and said he “stood ready to respond to the accusations”, but the public rallied around Gen Mkhwanazi – the police commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal – despite the province also being Mchunu’s political turf.

#HandsoffNhlanhlaMkhwanazi topped the trends list on X, in a warning shot to the government not to touch the 52-year-old officer.

“He’s [seen as] a no-nonsense person who takes the bull by the horn,” Calvin Rafadi, a crime expert based at South Africa’s University of Johannesburg, told the BBC.

South Africans have come to Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s support following his explosive claims

Gen Mkhwanazi first earned public admiration almost 15 years ago when, in his capacity as South Africa’s acting police chief, he suspended crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli, a close ally of then-President Jacob Zuma.

Mdluli was later sentenced to five years in jail for kidnapping, assault, and intimidation, vindicating Gen Mkhwanazi’s view that he was a rotten apple within the police service.

Gen Mkhwanazi faced enormous pressure to shield Mdluli, with his political bosses assuming that the officer, aged only 38 at the time, would be “open to manipulation [but] they were grossly mistaken”, said Dr Burger.

Not only did he push ahead with Mdluli’s suspension, he also made claims of political interference during an appearance in Parliament.

While this move earned him brownie points with citizens, his public outburst did him no favours and he was axed barely a year into the job and shunted back into obscurity for a number of years.

The Richard Mdluli saga shaped public opinion on Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in 2011

He made a dramatic comeback in 2018 when then-Police Minister Bheki Cele appointed him to the provincial police chief post, with one of his major tasks being to investigate killings in a province where competition for political power – and lucrative state tenders – is fierce.

It would be the disbandment of this investigative unit by Mr Mchunu that led to Gen Mkhwanazi’s explosive briefing a fortnight ago, complaining that 121 case dockets were “gathering dust” at the national police headquarters.

“I will die for this [police] badge. I will not back down,” Gen Mkhwanazi said, in line with his reputation of being a brave and selfless officer who cannot be captured by a corrupt political and business elite.

A survey by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSCRC) shows that public trust in the police stands at an all-time low of 22%,

The police force has long been plagued by issues of political interference, corruption and a seeming inability to effectively tackle the high crime levels.

The crisis has also reached the force’s upper structures, with about 10 different police chiefs since 2000 – one has been convicted of corruption, and another currently faces criminal charges.

“The dysfunction is across all levels,” Gareth Newham of the Pretoria-based Institute for Security Studies (ISS) think-tank told the BBC, adding that “there are many dynamics within the police service that need to be fixed”.

But Gen Mkhwanazi’s tenure has not been without controversy. He was the subject of an investigation by the police watchdog, following a complaint that he interfered in a criminal investigation into a senior prisons official.

However, he was cleared of the charge last month, with the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) saying the complaint was “designed to derail a committed officer who has been unrelenting in his fight against crime and corruption”.

Gen Mkhwanazi’s team has also faced criticism for their heavy-handed approach towards criminal suspects, who are sometimes shot dead in confrontations with officers under his command.

Mr Newham said that with Gen Mkhwanazi seen as the “cop’s cop”, the public was willing to turn a blind eye to his officers’ alleged abuses because “they want to have a hero in the police”.

With Mchunu sent packing, South Africa will have a new acting police minister from next month – Firoz Cachalia, a law professor who comes from a renowned family of anti-apartheid activists, and served as minister of Community Safety in Gauteng, South Africa’s economic heartland, from 2004 to 2009.

In an interview with local TV station Newzroom Afrika, Cachalia said that Gen Mkhwanazi’s decision to go public with his explosive allegations was “highly unusual”, but if they turned out to be true then “we will be able to see in retrospect that he was perfectly justified in doing what he did”.

So Gen Mkhwanazi’s credibility is on the line – either he proves his allegations against Mchunu, or he could fall on his sword.

But for now he has cemented his reputation as a brave police officer who took on his political bosses twice.

Policeman stabbed by suspected criminal at Lower McCarthy Hill https://www.adomonline.com/policeman-stabbed-by-suspected-criminal-at-lower-mccarthy-hill/ Mon, 07 Jul 2025 15:54:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2552349 A police officer has been stabbed by a suspected criminal at Lower McCarthy Hill in Accra.

The officer, identified as Sammy, was escorting his children to school when he was suddenly attacked by the suspect wielding a knife.

In an attempt to defend himself and disarm the attacker, Officer Sammy reportedly fired several shots at close range. However, eyewitnesses say the bullets had no effect, as the suspect was believed to have fortified himself with “black power” (juju).

After the failed attempt to subdue the suspect, a struggle ensued as the attacker tried to wrestle the pistol from the officer, who held on firmly.

According to an eyewitness, Quartey, it was during this struggle that the officer was stabbed in the right rib. The suspect then fled the scene.

“The suspect lives with his mother in the area and is known to be a criminal who constantly harasses residents,” Quartey said. “Sometimes he arrives with a group on motorbikes, disturbing everyone.”

Officer Sammy, who survived the attack, is currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

The Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed the incident and says investigations are ongoing.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Command, confirmed the report to Graphic Online’s Emmanuel Bonney.

The family of Police Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng, who was shot dead at a police barrier at Abease has expressed disappointment in the Ghana Police Service over the pace used in their request to seek justice.

The family is of the view that Kennedy’s murder has not been treated with much seriousness almost four months after the incident.

The family has therefore urged the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu to expedite investigations into Kennedy’s death.

Kennedy’s father, Nana Kyei Baffour Bosomprah, made the appeal during a press briefing at Fawohoyeden in the Ahafo Region.

Nana Bosomprah questioned why the police have yet to apprehend the suspect, who is one of their own, to face the law. He warned that if justice is not served, the family may be forced to take matters into their own hands.

Other relatives of the deceased, Otis Otu-Acheampong and Paulina Boakyewaa, expressed their deep disappointment to Adom News, stating that the Ghana Police Service has not demonstrated enough commitment to arrest the person responsible for Kennedy’s death.

They are calling on the new IGP to conduct a thorough investigation, ensure the suspect is arrested, and bring them before the court to secure justice for Kennedy and his family.

The deceased was shot on the Prang to Kintampo Road in the Bono East Region.

The incident occurred on Sunday, December 15, 2024, when a group of mourners was stopped at a routine police checkpoint.

However, they encountered a police barrier, which led to a confrontation.

The situation escalated when one of the mourners allegedly insulted a policewoman, prompting a call for backup.

The reinforcement team is said to have clashed with the mourners upon arrival, during which a policeman fired warning shots.

In an attempt by the mourners to disarm him, the gun accidentally went off, shooting his colleague in the abdomen.

The chief inspector opened fire on the Makadara Principal Magistrate, Monica Kivuti as soon as she had made a ruling.

The case allegedly involved the Policeman’s wife.

The officer is said to have been angered by the court’s decision to cancel bail to his wife.

The angry officer then fired shots at the Magistrate, injuring her.

Other officers in court responded immediately, with one of them shooting the offending Policeman and killing him.

In the process, three other officers were injured, a Police situation report noted.

The magistrate and the injured officers are being treated in hospital.

“Immediately this decision was pronounced, a person shot at the Magistrate and injured her on the hip,” it said in a statement.

It noted initial reports that indicated “that the shooter is a police officer who is married to the suspect”.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

The judiciary has said it will enhance security measures and has assured judicial staff and other court users of their safety and security.

“As the judiciary family, we wish our colleague a quick recovery. We also send our condolences to the family of the officer who lost his life in this unfortunate incident,” said Chief Registrar of the judiciary Winfridah Mokaya.

Top policeman chosen as Vietnam’s new president by lawmakers https://www.adomonline.com/top-policeman-chosen-as-vietnams-new-president-by-lawmakers/ Wed, 22 May 2024 02:50:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2398156 Vietnam’s National Assembly on Wednesday elected its police minister To Lam as the country’s new president, the biggest change so far in a major leadership reshuffle after an unusual spell of political turbulence in the one-party state.

Lam, 66, was elected at the rubber-stamp parliament following his nomination last week by a top committee of the ruling Communist Party.

Lam vowed after the vote he would be loyal to the nation, the state and the people, adding that “I will try my best to fulfil all the tasks assigned.”

He has been head of the police-run ministry of public security since 2016, and in 2021 was admitted to the party’s Politburo, the most powerful decision-making body in Vietnam.

Lam has been a crucial figure in the sweeping anti-graft campaign, known as “blazing furnace”, which is aimed at rooting out widespread corruption but has been seen also by critics as a tool to sideline opponents during political infighting.

The president holds a largely ceremonial role but is one of the country’s top four political positions, the so-called “four pillars”. The others are the party chief, prime minister and parliament speaker.

The shake-up has since March seen the exit of three of Vietnam’s top five leaders, after the house speaker, the president and a top politburo member resigned due to unspecified “wrongdoings”.

The moves have added to jitters among foreign firms about political infighting in the investment-reliant country, once seen as a beacon of stability in a region susceptible to policy shifts from changes in governments.

Lam was the second new addition to the leadership after Tran Thanh Man, 61, was elected the new chairman of the legislature on Monday.

According to the driver, who prefers to remain anonymous, about five police officers stopped his vehicle and claimed he was under arrest for loading at an unauthorized area.

“I loaded passengers from Coast Coast to Takoradi. When I got to Takoradi around 8:30pm on Friday, a police vehicle with about five officers stopped me. They alighted all my passengers and told me I was under arrest and that I will be taken to the office to be processed before court which I agreed,” he narrated on Connect FM‘s Omanbapa morning show team.

He adds that the police officers stopped along the way and demanded he pays an amount of GH¢150 before he would be set free.

“On our way to the Police station, they stopped and told me that if they should take me to the Police station, I will pay GH¢500 and my vehicle will be locked until Monday. They then told me to pay GH¢150 and I pleaded with them to have mercy upon me. They told me I was not serious and that the only way they would allow me to go is GH¢100 for a last price. So I paid the GH¢100 and they left me to go and continue my work,” he noted.

According to the driver, he later realised one of the police officers who entered his vehicle had left his gun in the front seat.

“I could not work again because they had taken all my money for the day. I went home and realised the police officer had left his gun in the vehicle. I have not been able to work for sometime because of the gun lying in my vehicle,” he added.

Policeman invokes curses after being caught at ‘wee’ base [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/policeman-invokes-curses-after-being-caught-at-wee-base-video/ Tue, 06 Sep 2022 21:15:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2159640

An aggrieved policeman, Sergeant Yahaya Osman, stationed at Asante Mampong has invoked curses on his commander, Superintendent Stephen Boadu.

Two others, only identified as Asare and Atta Gadafi have also not been spared.

The curses of Alhaji, as he is popularly known in the area, come on the back of his alleged involvement in narcotics.

Information gathered by Adom News’ Oppong Kyekyeku was that he was found by some policemen who reportedly raided a drug dungeon in the area.

“About 12 persons were arrested during the raid with 54 slabs and 19 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and cocaine respectively retrieved,” he reported.

The development subsequently led to his interdiction for the past three months, pending investigations in the matter which he claimed he had no knowledge of.

Osman claimed he has been wrongly accused and has been cut off his only source of livelihood, hence, his decision to resort to curses to prove his innocence.

He invoked four powerful deities in the area notably; Techiman Bokyerewa, Bomaa Apaape, Nsuatre Botan and Nana Kwasi Tadee at Asante Mampong to exonerate him within one week.

With local eggs, Schnapp and a whitish substance, Osman invoked curses on his colleagues over what he described as an injustice perpetrated against him.

He has indicated he will not regard them as powerful deities if they fail to act within the time frame.

Supt Boadu says the issue has currently been handed over to the top hierarchy for further action.

Meanwhile, traditional authorities say they are waiting for the police authorities to formally inform them about the matter before they take any action including revocation.

Policeman in Lamashegu shooting incident granted bail https://www.adomonline.com/policeman-in-lamashegu-shooting-incident-granted-bail/ Fri, 25 Feb 2022 11:22:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2084331 The Tamale Circuit Court has granted a GH¢10,000 bail with two sureties to the policeman involved in the Lamashegu shooting incident which resulted in the death of one person.

The deceased, identified as Abdul Hakim, a resident of Lamashegu, is said to have been hit by a stray bullet, fired by the police.

General Corporal Samson Kweku Darfour has pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful discharge of weapon and causing harm.

The case has been adjourned to March 23, 2022.

At Thursday’s hearing, the prosecution amended the facts presented at the first hearing.

The prosecution indicated that the accused was the leader of the team which was detailed to monitor crime along the Tamale stadium forest road.

While on duty, they saw someone driving an unregistered Toyota Camry.

Upon seeing the police team, the driver made a U-turn and sped off.

“The accused, seeing that, jumped into the police vehicle and gave the victim a hot chase to the Lamashegu chief’s palace, where he shot into the car through the backdoor. The bullet then hit and lodged in the right hip of the occupant of the vehicle.”

A bystander was also a victim of the shooting and got injured during a clash between the youth and the police.

The victim was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and was later confirmed dead.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hakim, a resident of Lamashegu.

Lawyer for the defendant, however, argued that the facts presented were inaccurate and that, the accused acted professionally in accordance with his work and told the court to give them ample time to provide adequate facts to counter that of the prosecution.

The lawyer further pleaded with the court to grant the defendant bail while he prepared strong facts to defend his client.

Background

On February 14, six police officers were interdicted following a shooting incident at Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region that resulted in the death of one person and injury of several others.

The shooting incident occurred on Sunday, February 13, at about 1 pm, and led to the subsequent attack on the Police by the youth of Lamashegu.

Police Constable Nii Okay Sampa was gravely assaulted on Monday at about 1530 hours when he prevented the sale of a fake mobile phone to a victim.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs Unit, Greater Accra Regional Police Command, the Officer went to Circle to meet a friend.

She said, upon his arrival, he saw a group of men harassing and searching a gentleman, therefore, Constable Sampa approached them intending to resolve the issue.

DSP Obeng said the victim explained to the Policeman that he wanted to buy a phone for which he had bargained the price and reached an agreement with the seller.

However, she said the seller engaged the victim in a heated argument over the settled price, but the issue was resolved by the Policeman after the victim explained what was happening to him.

DSP Obeng said the seller asked the victim to give him the phone so that he could package it for him after he completed the payment.

All this while, she said the Policeman observed and noticed that the seller was making attempts to change the phone for which they had agreed on.

The Policeman prevented the seller from selling a fake phone to the victim and collected the original phone, fake phone and phone case from the seller who was about swapping the original phone for the fake phone, DSP Obeng said.

She said suddenly, a group of men, including suspects Evans Addo and Godfred Akrofi, pounced on the officer and knocked him on the lips, resulting in a cut on his upper lips, beating him to bleed profusely, and injured him gravely.

DSP Juliana said they further cut open the pocket in which he kept the original phone, fake phone and phone case and took them away from him.

READ ON:

The Policeman, during the attack, was rescued by the Patrol team who were on patrols in the area at the time, she said.

DSP Obeng said the two suspects were arrested by the Patrol team and investigation into the matter had commenced. The suspects shall be arraigned before court.

“The Accra Regional Police Command unreservedly condemns attacks on law enforcement officers. The command strongly warns that in no uncertain terms will such acts be countenanced,” she said.

DSP Obeng said furthermore, the command would not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with any individual or group of persons found culpable of obstructing or attacking the Police in the performance of lawful duty.

She encouraged members of the general public to channel their concerns through the Police Public Affairs Unit for the appropriate assistance.

Police officer wakes up from 9-month coma to find out he was sacked https://www.adomonline.com/police-officer-wakes-up-from-9-month-coma-to-find-out-he-was-sacked/ Sun, 26 Sep 2021 23:34:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2020358 A Kenyan police officer has woken up from a nine-month coma to find he had been sacked for desertion.

Neither the family nor the police force had any idea where Constable Reuben Kimutai Lel was – his niece told the BBC they thought he was dead.

But it turns out that he had been the victim of a road accident and had been in one of the country’s biggest hospitals all along.

He only regained consciousness last week.

His niece Joan Jeptoo told the BBC of the family’s horror as they searched for his body in morgues after they had given up on his chances of being alive.

At one point they almost collected a decomposing body from a morgue that was said to be him.

“We thought he was dead because his phone was off. Early this year we went to collect a body that we were told resembled him, but the fingerprints didn’t match,” she said.

The police officer was admitted on 21 December 2020 as an unknown person at the main referral hospital in the capital, Nairobi. He had no identity documents with him.

Meanwhile, he was sacked from his job, charged in absentia with desertion and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The case was later withdrawn after police failed to find him

He regained consciousness last week, and although he has still not regained his full memory, he was able to identify himself by name and that he was a police officer – and so the search for his relatives began.

His niece was contacted by police last Wednesday and was told to go and identify him at hospital.

“I found him at Kenyatta National Hospital. He could not recognise me and he could not recognise names of members of his family,” she said.

The police officer was discharged from hospital last Friday and is recuperating at his home in Koibatek, Baringo county, under the care of his wife and family.

According to the Daily Nation news site, arrangements are being made to reinstate him to the police force.

However, his niece said the constable, in his late 50s, was looking forward to his retirement.

The two, Kofi Darko and Emmanuel Kotey, were convicted by an Accra Circuit Court, after they pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit crime to wit escape from lawful custody, and escaping from lawful custody.
Kofi is to serve 32 months in prison on both counts, while Emmanuel is to serve 34 months in prison on both counts all in hard labour.

The court in sentencing said it took into consideration the three months already spent in custody by Kofi and the three weeks already spent in custody by Emmanuel, their plea for mitigation as well as the reprehensive conduct of the two accused persons.
Earlier, the prosecution led by Superintendent of Police, Kweku Bempah told the court that the complainants are Policemen stationed at Kwabenya District Police station.
Prince Osei, 25, is a scrap dealer living at Glefe Dansoman; Atta Kwadwo, 20, is a driver; and Kofi Darko, 25 also a trader living at Glefe, Dansoman. Nancy is 28 and lives at Dome; and George Yeboah is 30 and lives around the Graphic Road.

Mr Bempah said on January 21, at about 0130 hours, a gang of armed men numbering six planned and attacked the Kwabenya Police station and freed their colleagues who were being held in detention for various violent crimes.
He told the court that in execution of their plan, the assailants proceeded to the station whilst two of them who pretended to have a complaint to lodge, entered the charge office and told the counter Non-Commission Officer (NCO) that someone borrowed money from them and had refused to pay back.

The counter NCO No. 43225 G/Cpl. Robert Owusu advised them to seek a redress at the civil court since the case they were reporting was civil matter, the two then signalled the rest, who had laid ambush within the premises, and launched an attack on the Policemen at the charge office.
The prosecution said they shot Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi, who was on duty as a Monitoring Officer on the right buttocks, held the counter NCO, his counter orderly, the charge office guard, and the night investigator hostages.
He said they took the keys to the cells and released seven of the inmates, namely, Chibuzor Akwuba, Emmanuel Kotey, Rockson Edem Dzigbede, Dickson Ofori, Prince Osei, Attah Kwadwo, and Kofi Darko.
After the armed attack, the assailants fled the scene, the NCO and the night Investigator arranged for an ambulance and rushed Inspector Ashilevi to the Police Hospital for treatment, but they were referred to the 37 Military Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr Bempah told the court that, Police intelligence, led to the arrest of George Yeboah, who assisted Prince Osei and Attah Kwadwo with GH¢ 200.00 to escape out of the jurisdiction.
He also gave GH¢ 40.00 to Kofi Darko to enable him escape from the jurisdiction.
He said on January 23, Police intelligence led to the arrest of Prince Osei and Attah Kwadwo at Worawora in the Volta Region.
Investigations also revealed that whiles in detention, on January 18, Prince Osei overheard the other inmates planning to escape.
According to the Police, in the evening on the same day, Nancy brought a mobile phone to Dickson in the cells, which he used to contact his people outside to execute the escape plan.
Rockson’s brother also brought a hacksaw blade to him by hiding it in bread to cut the padlocks to the cells but he could not do so.
He said upon interrogation, Prince Osei, said he stole a gun from Prince Kofi Acheampong.
He also revealed that Dickson and Chibuzor are Acheampong’s boys whom he normally sends out on robbery trips.
Mr Bempah said further investigations also revealed that it was Acheampong in collaboration with Dickson and Chibuzor who sent the armed men to attack and release them from the cells, which led to the death of the Inspector.
On January 25, at about 0200 hours, Acheampong was arrested together with Edward from their hideout at Afienya.
The prosecution said on January 27 at about 0230 hours, Attah led the Police to a house at Kasoa Nyanyano and pointed Kofi Seshie to the Police as one of the gang members who came to rescue them from the cells and also shot and killed the Inspector.
He said the rest are all suspected accomplices arrested to assist in police investigations.

Hot Video: Fabewoso: Policeman-on-duty narrates his experience with armed robbers https://www.adomonline.com/hot-video-fabewoso-policeman-duty-narrates-experience-armed-robbers/ https://www.adomonline.com/hot-video-fabewoso-policeman-duty-narrates-experience-armed-robbers/#comments Wed, 24 Jan 2018 14:10:24 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=866571 A Ghanaian policeman who was attacked by three armed men when he was on duty has narrated his unfortunate encounter on Adom FM’s Fabewoso programme.

After some armed robbers raided the Kwabenya police station and killed a policeman to free some inmates from cells, junior rank in the police have voiced out their sentiments on how low their morale has been placed in their line of duties.
In an interview with host, Kofi Adoma Nwawani, a policeman whose name and station was withheld said he was once attacked by eight men who attempted to take custody of his cell keys and free inmates.
He said at around 2:30 am, he left the charge office to stretch for a while when he saw three men in black attires approaching him.
Thinking they were coming to report a case, he quickly dashed into the office to receive them and record their complaints but to his surprise, one of the men hurriedly got behind him and requested for the key to the cells at gun point.
The Officer said he was hit with the gun as blood oozed from the cut when he refused to heed to the request of the well-built masked-men.
He said “I couldn’t run out; the two men outside asked him to shoot me or else they will. I was confused. I even forgot the keys were in my pocket. My face was covered with blood.”
The policeman who said he feared for his life, continued that, “I saw one of the men outside coming inside to shoot me with a pump action gun. I hid behind the counter so the shot missed me…” he narrated.
The policeman said he was grabbed by the machomen who “hit my head against the wall for about a number of times.” I was so weak that they wanted to drag me from the charge office so they can kill me outside. As he was dragging me, he was tripped by a TV cable so he fell.”
It took the help of another officer who was coming to duty to see the action and give warning shots before the armed men fled.
According to the policeman, in spite of his ordeal, the government has not compensated him ever since the matter occurred. He revealed that all the cost for his medications and hospital bills were catered for by his family.
He added that, he was never promoted for putting his life on the line for the country hence his morale has depreciated drastically.
Asked what the government can do to improve the security of the police forces, he urged the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration to provide the police with side arms [because] before a policeman would reach for an AK47, an armed robber might have shot him already’.
The policeman who ‘swore’ he could never forget the encounter added that, ‘they [armed robbers] work like policemen. They go through strenuous training. I don’t think there was an insider who helped them”, he said.
