The intelligence-led operation was conducted by the Upper East Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Military as part of efforts to identify and apprehend persons linked to recent firearm-related offences in the district.

One of the suspects, identified as 32-year-old Isaka Sabani, alias “Culture”, sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and later died.

According to the police, the security team retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition from the suspect.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Sabani was wanted in connection with a case of attempted murder and unlawful discharge of firearms reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026.

Police also suspect him of involvement in shooting incidents recorded at Agenda 111, Aniisi and Gumyoko in the Binduri District on August 29, 30 and 31 respectively.

The Upper East Regional Police Command said it would continue working with the Military and other security agencies to identify and apprehend other persons suspected to be involved in the incidents.

The Command has also assured residents of its commitment to maintaining security, law and order in the region.
