MyNewsGh.com reports that the Police Band was returning to Kumasi at about 8:45 pm after performing at a programme between Nyinahini.

They were attacked between the Kumasi-Bibiani road, resulting in the death of the civilian identified as Benjamin Osei Bonsu.

Two are said to be in critical condition at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital receiving treatment. Others who were also beaten severely have been treated and discharged.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service is yet to officially release a statement on the attack.

Ansah Emmanuel, a spare driver without license who was driving the vehicle at the blind side of the Police has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment in hard labour.

The substantive driver, Raymond Kofi Boateng who permitted the spare driver to drive with inappropriate license was also convicted to six (6) months imprisonment in addition to a fine of Ghc1,200 in default serve two(2) months imprisonment.

Seventeen (17) Police officers of the Eastern Regional Police Band stationed at the Regional Police Headquarters were involved in a near fatal accident on Apirede Akuapem to Somanya road on Saturday November 27,2021.

The Police Officers were aboard a Mercedes Sprinter bus from Koforidua to Somanya for an official duty however on reaching a section of the road the civilian driver allegedly failed break while descending a hill therefore lost control of the steering wheel and violently crashed.

Some of the victims were rushed to Atua Government Hospital where they were treated and discharged while five whose were in critical conditions were referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for intensive care.

IGP visits police officers involved in accident

The Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare on Sunday November 28,2021 visited the injured Police officers who were on admission at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua and continued to visit all those discharged in their homes.

The IGP was accompanied by the Eastern Regional Police Commander DCOP Mr. Edward Johnson Akrofi-Oyirifi ,the Regional MTTD Commanding Officer Chief Superintendent Stephen Ahiatafu and other Senior Police officers from Headquarters ,Accra .

17 police officers involved in accident, 3 in critical condition https://www.adomonline.com/17-police-officers-involved-in-accident-3-in-critical-condition/ Sun, 28 Nov 2021 13:09:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2050979 A commercial Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus carrying police officers belonging to the Koforidua Regional police band has been involved in a road crash at Somanya in the Eastern Region.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at about 8:30 am while the personnel were traveling from Koforidua to Somanya.

Kofi Asare, 31, driver of the vehicle with registration number GS 6780-20, is alleged to have experienced a brake failure whilst descending the Aperede – Somanya hills.

He is said to have controlled the vehicle to some distance, but luck eluded him after the vehicle somersaulted and fell into a ditch on the near side of the road.

Police officials of the Akropong Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department, in a statement, said “occupants on board the vehicle sustained various degrees of injuries and were immediately rescued and rushed to the Atuah Government hospital, Somanya for treatment.”

Enquries at the hospital, according to the police, revealed victims No. 42808 G/Sgt Kumi Isaac Anoff aged 32, No. 42915 G/Sgt Anyan Eric Abeka aged 37, No. 5326 PW/Sgt Victoria Vigbedor aged 38, No. 45574 G/CPL Afari Awuku Michael aged 39 and No. 5072 PW/Sgt Padi Gladys aged 39 sustained injuries.

The others were No. 6182 PW/CPL Jennifer Agyakum aged 35, No. 6199 PW/CPL Diana Boaduaa aged 39, No. 5074 PW/Sgt Phyllis Obeng aged 39, No. 45427 G/CPL Frederick Ahweren aged 34, No. 43014 G/Sgt Henry Abbey aged 46, No. 45608 G/CPL Godwin Gamor aged 43, No. 42828 G/Sgt Emmanuel Agyei aged 36 and No. 49258 G/L/CPL Abraham Arthur aged 36.

However, the hospital authorities told police that victims G/L/CPL Hannah Offeibea, G/Sgt Wisdom Akagbo, G/CPL Festus Owusu, and G/L/CPL Nutsua Fabian have been referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua for further treatment due to the nature of their injuries.

Meanwhile, efforts are being made to tow the accident vehicle to the station for further action.

The suspect driver is also currently on admission at Atuah Government hospital, Somanya.
