The Executive Director of the Foundation, David Hagan, revealed this during a medical screening and preparation exercise for beneficiaries at Pomposo in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to Adom News’ Isaac K. Normanyo, Mr. Hagan disclosed that although over 500 people applied, financial constraints meant the Foundation could only support 100 beneficiaries at a total cost of GH¢400,000.

He noted that the Foundation has already supported more than 700 individuals in similar interventions over the years, stressing that the goal is to restore dignity and inclusion for those who often feel neglected and isolated.

A medical practitioner involved in the project urged the public, especially teachers, parents, and community members, not to stigmatize persons with deformities, reminding them that such conditions are not the fault of the victims.

One of the selected beneficiaries shared her ordeal of years of stigma and exclusion, expressing hope that the surgery would finally give her a chance to live without discrimination.

Actor Akrobeto responds to critics suggesting nose plastic surgery https://www.Adomonline.com/actor-akrobeto-responds-to-critics-suggesting-nose-plastic-surgery/ Thu, 09 May 2024 01:49:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2392006 Kumawood actor Akrobeto has hit back at critics urging him to undergo nose plastic surgery, emphasizing that his big nose is not a concern for him.

Speaking on TV, he expressed bewilderment at why his prominent nose would bother those who don’t have similar features.

According to him, he has the advantages of breathing in ‘more air’ than the average person due to his nose size, adding that, it should not be a bother for anyone.

“I breathe easily… I cannot get sick. I don’t even need oxygen at the hospital. I can really breathe lots of air. My nose doesn’t choke. I would rather eat at the chop bar (local restaurant) with the money.

“No matter what, you will die in life… it’s okay to look good, but you can die anytime. No one can escape death. You will definitely grow, you cannot ageing. What didn’t Michael Jackson do? But where is he now? Gone.” He said.

Liposuction overtakes breast augmentation as most popular cosmetic surgery https://www.Adomonline.com/liposuction-overtakes-breast-augmentation-as-most-popular-cosmetic-surgery/ Fri, 24 Mar 2023 10:33:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2232108 Liposuction has overtaken breast augmentation as the world’s most popular form of cosmetic surgery amid growing concern about the implants’ links to cancer, according to newly published data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).

The contouring procedure, which uses suction to remove excess fat, accounted for 14.8% of cosmetic surgeries performed worldwide, while the equivalent figure for breast augmentation fell to just over 13%.

Changing trends are part of a global surge in aesthetic medicine, which saw over 30 million surgical and non-surgical procedures carried out in 2021, a jump of 19.3% from the previous year. The data, published Tuesday as part of ISAPS latest annual survey, suggests that the cosmetic surgery industry has not only recovered from two consecutive years of Covid-related decline — it has grown far beyond pre-pandemic levels.

The total number of surgical procedures rose by over 33% between 2017 and 2021, while non-surgical procedures (the most popular of which is botulinum toxin, or Botox) grew by more than 54% in the same period.

The number of breast augmentations also increased marginally, by 0.5%, over those same four years. But the report’s editor, Dr. Gianluca Campiglio, pointed to a relative decline when compared to other procedures. He linked this trend to concern over BIA-ALCL, a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma — a cancer of the immune system — attributed to the implants.

Campiglio, who works as a plastic surgeon in Italy, also highlighted a sharp jump in the number of patients seeking to remove their breast implants, a procedure that grew by almost 50% globally in the past four years.

“The lower increase in breast augmentation, and related increase in implant removals … reflects our experience following publication of reports on BIA-ALCL in the preceding year,” he said in a press release.

The US Food and Drug Administration said it first identified a possible link between breast implants and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) in 2011.

Campiglio meanwhile heralded the growth of liposuction as part of a wider growth in interest in body contouring. More than 1.9 million liposuction procedures were recorded worldwide in 2021, a jump of almost 25% from the preceding year.

Also among the most popular procedures are rhinoplasty and abdominoplasty (or nose jobs and tummy tucks). Eyelid surgery was the third-most common procedure in the world in 2021, and the most popular among men.

Elsewhere in the report, thigh lifts were found to be the world’s quickest growing form of cosmetic surgery, up over 53% from 2020. The report also highlighted a “notable increase” — of over 30% — in the use of hyaluronic acid, which is commonly injected as a facial filler.

As in previous years, the USA was found to have the most cosmetic surgeons in the world. The country’s approximately 7,000 surgeons in the field accounted for almost a quarter of the procedures carried out worldwide, with Brazil and Japan finishing a distant second and third at 8.9% and 5.7%, respectively.

Turkey, Colombia, Mexico and Thailand were meanwhile identified as the most popular destinations for patients traveling overseas for cosmetic treatments.

ISAPS, which represents over 5,600 doctors in 117 countries, based its latest survey findings on data collected from over 1,000 cosmetic surgeons. The report only included procedures carried out by certified physicians, though in 2017, Dr. Debra Johnson, the then-president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, told CNN that “there are a lot of non-plastic surgeons providing cosmetic services.”

“We always encourage patients to do their homework, make sure that their plastic surgeon is board-certified, that they’re well-trained in the procedures that the patient wants,” she said at the time.

My failed plastic surgery led me into depression – Popular Ghanaian entrepreneur https://www.Adomonline.com/my-failed-plastic-surgery-led-me-into-depression-popular-ghanaian-entrepreneur/ Tue, 11 Aug 2020 13:54:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1839164 Entrepreneur Confidence Haugen has opened up on long-rumoured secrets surrounding series of failed plastic surgeries she had engaged herself in.

Confidence has confessed that she hated her tiny breast which had a huge areola and to make matters worse, they were sagging despite her young age.

She said her quest for fuller breasts caused her to go under the knife, as far back as 1999 when she made a trip to England.

Desparate, yet naive of the breast implant process she was going to undertake, Confidence said she agreed to all the terms and conditions, a mistake which almost cost her beauty.

I did not like the surgery at all; I hated it because when I came out, I was just not happy with what I saw. It was not the size I wanted and everything was just so wrong about it.

The procedure, she said, worsened her plight and forced her to have a second surgery after her breast continued sagging.

The second operation demanded she undertook a breast and areola reduction to uplift the tissue and fat but that also failed woefully.

“The areola was cut but one was bigger; there was a mismatch but I was given the assurance that after six months, everything will be back to normal. A year and half later, things were still not alright,” she said in a very sad tone.

Confidence said after years of depression, a friend introduced her to a surgeon who did a perfect sculpture on her chest area, adding a liposuction around her belly and inner thigh.

After experience taught her a bitter lesson, Confidence is advising ladies who wish to have surgeries to do some research, as well as demand for photos of the surgeons’ previous works just to be sure of what they are going into.

Woman can’t recognize her son after plastic surgery drastically alters his appearance https://www.Adomonline.com/woman-cant-recognize-son-plastic-surgery-drastically-alters-appearance/ Thu, 23 Nov 2017 08:18:10 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=695211 A woman in Thailand was left unable to recognize her 22-year-old son after he underwent a drastic plastic surgery makeover in South Korea for a popular television show.
Looking at the man’s before and after pictures, who can really blame her?
Noppajit Monlin, a 22-year-old factory worker from Thailand, had always been ashamed of his twisted jaw, blemished complexion and his other facial imperfections.
At work, he avoided his colleagues as much as possible, eating his lunch alone, instead of joining them, for fear of being laughed at or having to put up with their stares.
So when he got selected for the Thai edition of “Let Me In”, a popular South Korean TV show that focuses on extreme plastic surgery transformations, he knew he had a chance to drastically change his life for the better.

Monlin was flown to South Korea, where he underwent multiple procedures that would leave him looking literally like a new man. Let Me In Thailand paid for corrective surgery on his jaw, forehead and eyelids, and even threw in some botox injections to help with his excessive drooling, as well as skin treatments for his blemished complexion.
After a three-month recovery period, the young man looked so shockingly different that his own mother couldn’t recognize him.
On the Season 3 premiere of Let Me In Thailand, the new Noppajit Monlin can be seen sitting at a table right across from his mother at a restaurant, as she waits for him to show up.

“I really miss him, and I’m not acting,” the teary-eyed woman says into the camera, just as her son gets up and starts walking towards her.
“Mom, do you remember me? Look at me,” Noppajit asks, to which she replies “Is it you? Is it really you?”. According to Coconuts Bangkok, the woman had to look for his plastic surgery scars to convince herself that she was talking to her son.
“People say I’m a different person. I feel much better. Before, people said my face was not normal and society didn’t accept me, now I have more friends,” Noppajit said on the show.

Even though he now looks like a South Korean male model, Noppajit says that he is still the same man inside. His heart still belongs to “Tob” a transgender woman he met on Facebook three years ago, and who has been by his side ever since.
“She took care of me. Even though she’s not a woman, she’s just like one. This woman is the best for me,” Noppajit said. “Although I have a new life now, my heart is the same.”
“I’m protective of him, but I’m not scared of him leaving me. We’ve trusted each other since the beginning,” Tob said on Let Me In Thailand.
That’s great and all, but I just can’t seem to get passed how this man ended up looking completely different than before. I knew South Korean plastic surgery could be extreme, but this is just crazy.
