In an interview on Adom FM’s Work and Happiness show, Opanka highlighted the message behind the song, emphasizing the challenges faced by breadwinners in society.

“This is not just music; it’s a sermon. In life, some people are breadwinners, while others depend on them. But who supports the breadwinner? Everyone has a different journey, so don’t compare your life to others. Cut your coat according to your size,” he stated.

Why buy flowers for a girl who needs a wig, rent? – Opanka makes strong case https://www.adomonline.com/why-buy-flowers-for-a-girl-who-needs-a-wig-rent-opanka-makes-strong-case/ Thu, 06 Feb 2025 13:49:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2501417 Ahead of Valentine’s Day celebrations, rapper Opanka has sparked a conversation around gifting culture, especially when it comes to giving flowers.

In his submission during an interview on Accra FM, monitored by Adomonline.com, Opanka opined that gifting bouquets as a sign of love is not practical in the Ghanaian setting.

The musician further argued that while flowers may be appreciated in some cultures, typically in the West, they don’t quite align with Ghanaian values.

“Let’s be truthful, what’s the benefit of it? What will they even use flowers for? Will they plant it, grow it, or use it for decoration?” he quizzed.

From his perspective, men should offer more valuable essentials based on the needs and desires of their partners, rather than conforming to societal yardsticks.

The gift, he added, should be an item the recipient will truly appreciate, which should align with their love language.

“Why buy flowers for a lady who will appreciate a wig, rent, or even cosmetics more? Just give her the money to sort herself out. It’s all about giving what will be appreciated. It is the effort they appreciate.”

“All these things are Western culture. If we have to adopt theirs, then we should do it in totality. Here, we often prefer restaurant or indoor dates, whereas Westerners might enjoy basic things like a stroll or a coffee date. Western women split bills, offer gifts to their partners—are Ghanaian women willing to emulate?”

Interestingly, Opanka described himself as a ‘romántico’ who likes caring for his lover’s financial needs, in the same measure he is responsible for the upkeep of his family.

Meanwhile, Opanka is currently promoting his latest single, People, which is available on all music platforms.

Opanka opens up on factors hindering the promotion of his songs https://www.adomonline.com/opanka-opens-up-on-factors-hindering-the-promotion-of-his-songs/ Mon, 06 Sep 2021 18:17:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2010770 Contrary to popular opinion that he does not promote his music well enough to get the necessary attention like his colleagues, rapper Opanka has revealed that lack of funds is what is hindering the promotion of his songs.

The musician, who has been in the music space for over a decade, noted that most songs getting a lot of airplay are not because of how good the lyrics are but rather the financial strength of the artiste or his/her label.

He went on to state that he is not signed onto any record label; adding that he does everything by himself and his team, unlike other musicians.

“When you hear songs or you see someone promoting a song, it is not just how good the song is that is why they are playing it.

“Promotion has to do with your financial strength. I do not have a label. It is just my team and I and now with the Covid and even before it, promoting isn’t easy.

“Promoting is expensive and I’m not saying it is bad. People have families, people have to eat. I don’t have a label, I’m not signed onto a record label, I am pushing myself with my team.

“So I push it to my strength, just to that level and sometimes, I stop. Not that I don’t want to push, but you can’t push with any amount,” he told JoyNews’ Doreen Avio.

Financial constraints hindering the promotion of my music – Opanka

Giving more details, the ‘Eka Aba Fie’ hitmaker noted that two heads are better than one, hence it is easier for musicians getting financial support to do better than those working on their own.

“Music is lucrative, music is a huge business. Where I can cover with my strength, we can go further if you join me. But even with that, we can still achieve more with investors.

“We can reach high, so we all need investors, I will be honest,” he stressed on ‘Let’s Talk Showbiz’ on Joy News.

He was, however, quick to add that he is still working to put out good music with or without investors. Again, he was ready to go the extra mile to promote his music the best way he can.

Opanka went viral with ‘Simple’ freestyle in 2009 and dropped his first single titled ‘Taste’ in 2010.

He has since churned out great songs over the years like ‘Obia Ne Ni Taste’, ‘Wedding Car’ with a recent one titled ‘Eka Aba Fie’ featuring Shatta Wale.

Meanwhile, ‘Let’s talk Showbiz’ airs every Monday to Friday on the JoyNews Channel at 4:45 pm. It is hosted by Doreen Avio who has been nicknamed the NavrongoChic.

Dadie Opanka slams Bulldog as he wades into female musicians’ beef [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/dadie-opanka-slams-bulldog-as-he-wades-into-female-musicians-beef-watch/ Wed, 20 May 2020 11:48:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1797236 Ghanaian rapper, Dadie Opanka, has urged musicians to preach togetherness rather than fuel ‘unnecessary’ competition in the industry.

He explained ‘beefs’ are inevitable but when they surface, they should be left to only the key parties to settle their differences.

“Ghanaians focus too much on negativity rather than preaching togetherness. If people are beefing there is no need to choose favourites just let them do their own thing. It is not necessary to even talk of it in the first place,” he said in an interview with Adom News.

He said ‘beefing’ female musicians have talents which should be promoted because every other negative statement breeds hatred.

His comments follow artiste manager, Bulldog’s statement that he can put GH¢50,000 on rapper Eno Barony to beat any male musician in a lyrical war.

Dadie Opanka, who admitted Eno Barony is a good rapper, however, disagreed with Bulldog, saying “in our cultural setting a man will always win against the opposite gender.”
