Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Ms. Pratt stated that she was personally hearing about the incident for the first time during the show.

“I’m just getting to hear about the accident that claimed the lives of 16 Obogu Saviour Church youth. I’m hearing it for the first time. It would have been nice if someone alerted me,” she said.

She emphasized that the Vice President takes matters of national tragedy seriously and would have issued a statement had she been informed earlier.

“Does anyone think our mother wouldn’t have commented on the tragedy if she had heard? What would have gone wrong if someone had drawn our attention? It would have helped if someone drew our attention,” she stressed.

Ms. Pratt underlined the need for collaboration in governance, urging Ghanaians to ensure that important information reaches the appropriate authorities.

“If Ghana goes well, it is for the good of all of us; if it destroys too, same. We must be interconnected and own the country. Governance is for all of us, and we need to get it right.”

Taking personal responsibility, she added, “I take personal responsibility for the shortfall and not blame the Vice President. I wish I had 6,000 ears to hear everything that happens in all 16 regions in Ghana. But unfortunately, I am limited as a human being.”

The devastating crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Monday, when a tyre on a fuel tanker reportedly burst as it headed toward Accra. The tanker veered off its lane and collided head-on with a Ford Transit bus carrying members of the Obogu Saviour Church Youth Ministry.

Eyewitnesses said the impact was so severe that many passengers died instantly. Survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

The victims were laid to rest in a mass burial on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The victims, mainly teenagers, were buried in a mass service at Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

They included ten females and six males.

Family members and friends, still in shock, wept uncontrollably as they paid their final respects.

Adom News’ Isaac Amoako, who was at the funeral, reported that residents are still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

In an interview, the Obugumanhene Kyeidomhene, Nana Opoku Manu, revealed that nine females and six males were buried in a single grave, while another, a much younger victim, was laid to rest separately.

He added that the Traditional Council had performed cleansing rituals on Wednesday ahead of the burial.

Expressing concern over the increasing number of road accidents in Ghana, Nana Opoku Manu urged drivers to exercise caution and called on the government to prioritise the dualisation of major highways, particularly the Kumasi road.

The devastating crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Monday when a tyre on a fuel tanker heading toward Accra reportedly burst.

The tanker veered off its lane, colliding head-on with a Ford Transit bus carrying members of the Obogu Saviour Church Youth Ministry.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the impact was so severe that many passengers died on the spot, while survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

The victims were returning from a church congress in Koforidua when the accident occurred.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that a fuel tanker heading toward Accra burst a tyre while overtaking another vehicle. The tanker veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Ford Transit bus transporting the youth.

Fifteen passengers died on the spot, while four others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency care.

In Obogu, grief has enveloped the community as families, church members, and traditional leaders gathered to mourn the devastating loss and pay their final respects during the mass burial.

Leaders of the Saviour Church described the tragedy as one of the darkest moments in the church’s history, calling for unity and spiritual strength in these trying times.
