The recently concluded 2024/25 football season was marred by several violent incidents, including one that tragically led to the death of an Asante Kotoko supporter.

Drawing from his experience at Nsoatreman, Alagidede revealed that the club typically allocated just GH₵500 per match to the Ghana Police Service for maintaining order—an amount he described as grossly insufficient.

“What we are paying is not enough to take care of the Police. At Nsoatreman, we were paying 1,000 cedis for big games like Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to the Police on duty. Is that what we call payment? We had to pay 1,000 cedis for the entire team. I’m telling you, these are facts anybody can verify,” he told LUV FM.

“I don’t know about the likes of Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. But for smaller clubs, it’s 500 cedis we pay for every game.

“Typically, you are looking at about 40 to 50 Police officers. All these guys will come in a vehicle, work the entire game, and it’s 500 Ghana cedis they receive,” he added.

Alagidede stressed the need for a broader conversation around properly funding security at football matches to prevent further violence.

“This is something you and your listeners may not have known, but we need to open up this conversation more because it’s very crucial going forward,” he emphasized.

Abdul Bashiru Hussein: The silent striker writing his way into Ghana’s football story https://www.adomonline.com/abdul-bashiru-hussein-the-silent-striker-writing-his-way-into-ghanas-football-story/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 07:58:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2546936 You won’t find his name trending on Ghanaian social media. He’s not the face of any boot deal, and chances are, you’ve never seen him play.

But somewhere between the sun-scorched pitches of Asempanaye — a village in the Offinso North district of the Ashanti Region — and the modest home of his impoverished family, an 18-year-old named Abdul Bashiru Hussein has been quietly writing his own script: one goal, one run, one silent statement at a time.

Hussein’s football journey began like most African footballers. On the sandy pitches and usually barefooted, he and his compatriots turned out for various youth football clubs. They just enjoyed playing the game and were content with tips or being carried on shoulders as a reward for a standout performance. That was about all the game had for them.

With each subtle dribble and feathery touch, the reality of his dark and precarious world would slowly drift away into the abyss. Goals would be scored, and joy would reign supreme. In those moments, he was free and innocent; a mindstate that all children should be afforded, but far too many are robbed of. This love of the game and the subsequent skills born from it would become evident to anyone inclined to take a gander.

It was on these pitches that he first caught the eye of onlookers around the country. His solid attacking displays were a product of fantastic athleticism and an innate ability to read the game.

It is easier to count the number of clubs which weren’t interested in signing the young forward than those that tried to acquire him after his consistent impressive showings, but it was a lower-tier side, Twin City FC, that won the race to sign him on.
Adjusting to life away from his family in his new, unfamiliar surroundings did not come easily. While Hussein may have been the talk of the town in Asempanaeye, at Twin City, he was one of many talented prospects scratching and clawing to make the first team.

Instead of cowering, Hussein thrived, developing his creative majesty and tapping into a mental fortitude that he didn’t know existed. Fierce shooting with either foot, a constant threat in the air and a finely tuned predatory instinct in the box combine to make Hussein a complete forward.

He continued his goal-scoring exploits at Twin City FC, bettering his own goal-scoring records year after year and landed a deal with Ghanaian top-flight side Nsoatreman FC.

The allure of playing in Ghana’s elite division was tough to ignore, but his parents believed their son’s development would be better served with more time at home.
A few weeks later, a call was made to the Hussein household, a verbal agreement was swiftly made between brief bouts of delirium induced by the extraordinary nature of the call, and another cross-city move was soon made, this time allowing Hussein to link up with Baseke Holy Stars on a season-long loan.

He didn’t just show up — he delivered. In 30 games, Hussein scored 10 goals, provided eight assists, and picked up four MVP awards, playing a pivotal role in guiding Holy Stars to their first-ever promotion to Ghana’s top flight.

At Holy Stars, he was viewed as a master craftsman who knew how to draw the ball to him inside the box, he infiltrated space with the agility and stealth of a cunning cat burglar, and was equally adept at capitalising on the chances he helped pillage against some of the best defenders in the world.

His potential didn’t go unnoticed. It caught the eye of the Ghana U-20 handlers, earning him a deserved call-up to the Black Satellites. But just as the door opened, injury knocked him back — a cruel twist for a young forward on the rise.

Despite the injury setback, his exploits with Holy Stars were enough to prompt a recall from the parent club and transfer him to Nsoatreman FC in a bumper deal. The budding forward was handed a shot at Ghana’s top flight, making 11 appearances and scoring once before Nsoatreman abruptly withdrew from the league — a move the club claimed was necessary to protect the safety of its players.

Possessing an appreciable height and being brave, Hussein can hold his own alongside the toughest of centre-backs, but rather than his physique, his guile and intelligent positioning enable him to outwit defenders.
His uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time means he regularly finds scoring opportunities.

Equally comfortable going for the goal with either foot or with his head, and never afraid to miss, it is no surprise to see him become a toast of the fans.
With skilful feet and a sharp football brain, he has excellent link-up play and can spot a pass. A willing grafter, he’s also not averse to working the flanks and has decent crossing ability. He loves to contribute to the build-up around the penalty area rather than wait for the ball.

He doesn’t shout for attention. He lets his game whisper things most teenagers haven’t learned to say — timing, positioning, purpose.
At just 18, Hussein has already drawn comparisons to his idol, Serhou Guirassy, for his quick footwork, sharp instincts, and goal-scoring ability. Frankly, apart from wearing a tough, resilient character, there is a spark of Guirassy in the way he moves and what he can do with the ball.

At no point in his short career has he shown any fear or doubt in his capabilities. However, to get anywhere near the famous Guinean’s level, he will have to work hard and continue his development. Creative and dynamic at the same time with good ball control, he possesses all the ingredients to become a complete and quality player.

In a country where forwards are forged in fire and forgotten just as quickly, Bashiru offers something different: a story still unfolding, and a talent that refuses to stay hidden much longer.

It is unfortunate – GFA President reacts to Nsoatreman FC’s withdrawal from GPL https://www.adomonline.com/it-is-unfortunate-gfa-president-reacts-to-nsoatreman-fcs-withdrawal-from-gpl/ Wed, 30 Apr 2025 10:18:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2530362

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has described Nsoatreman FC’s decision to withdraw from the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League as “unfortunate.”

The club, based in Twumasi, announced its withdrawal, citing serious concerns over player safety.

This follows the tragic stabbing and death of Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, at the Nana Kronmansah Park during a league match on February 2.

Their decision was further influenced by a reported assault by unknown individuals in Kukuom, Ahafo Region, as the team traveled to face Samartex at Bibiani Duns Park.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, GFA president Kurt Okraku expressed regret over the development.

“It’s unfortunate because Ignatius Baffour Awuah is my good friend. For somebody who has invested in football to go through that is unfortunate,” he said.

“At the end of the day, it’s their decision and not mine. It’s important that at a point in time, you respect people’s decisions,” Mr. Okraku added.

I have no intention to play in Ghana Premier League again – Nsoatreman FC Forward https://www.adomonline.com/i-have-no-intention-to-play-in-ghana-premier-league-again-nsoatreman-fc-forward/ Fri, 11 Apr 2025 13:03:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2524331 Nsoatreman FC forward, Benjamin Tsivanyo, has announced that he no longer intends to continue his career in the Ghana Premier League.

This decision comes after the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong (also known as Nana Pooley), and the subsequent withdrawal of the Bono-based club from the top-flight league.

In an interview with Joy Sports, Tsivanyo shared that while he has been keeping fit by training with his former club, he no longer has the desire to play in the Ghanaian Premier League.

The 16-year-old also expressed his distress over the recent events and shared his plans to relocate abroad.

“Some of us are worried; we have been talking a lot. I am in the house now, and no one is going to tell you how they really feel,” he said.

“As a young footballer, sometimes you have to let go of the past. You always have to be prepared. I train at the beachside with some young footballers, and I also train with a second division team where I started.”

“For me, I don’t want to stay in Ghana anymore. I’ve already made a name for myself here, so the next step is to move abroad and prove myself,” Tsivanyo added.

Tsivanyo played a key role in Nsoatreman FC’s FA Cup victory last season.

Bashiru, who is a former Equipment Officer of the Club, has been found guilty of unlawfully entering the inner perimeter and assaulting Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara.

Bashiru is now prohibited from participating in any football-related activities for the duration of the ban, significantly impacting his involvement with Nsoatreman FC.

Nsoatreman FC referred to GFA prosecutor after failed talks; opponents to get three points https://www.adomonline.com/nsoatreman-fc-referred-to-gfa-prosecutor-after-failed-talks-opponents-to-get-three-points/ Sun, 23 Mar 2025 16:09:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2517882

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has referred Premier League side Nsoatreman FC to its Prosecutor following the club’s decision to withdraw from the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

In a letter signed by the club president and received by the GFA on March 14, 2025, Nsoatreman cited “safety concerns over the security and safety of our players” as the basis for the withdrawal, according to a statement from the Ghana FA.

The club linked its decision to “recent events involving [its] matches with Asante Kotoko SC and FC Samartex 1996,” stating that it “can no longer guarantee the safety of [its] players.”

In the match against Asante Kotoko, a devoted fan of the Porcupine Warriors, Francis Frimpong, was stabbed to death. Following their game against Samartex FC, the team’s bus was allegedly trailed by unknown assailants, one of whom was later arrested by the Police.

According to a Police report, the suspect admitted to following the bus, claiming the intent was to force the club to take responsibility for Frimpong’s murder.

These incidents heightened security concerns, prompting Nsoatreman to withdraw from the league. However, the GFA stated that it had engaged the club multiple times in an effort to have the decision rescinded, but those discussions were unsuccessful.

“The Football Association has had a number of engagements with the club on the subject matter without success,” the statement read.

With no resolution reached, the GFA has “activated the appropriate provisions in the Competition Regulations relating to the matter” and referred the issue to its Prosecutor for disciplinary action.

The Association cited Article 13(5) of the Premier League Regulations, which states: “Where a club withdraws from the league after it has started, any match which that club is scheduled to play shall be considered forfeited and accordingly, three (3) points and three (3) goals shall be awarded in favour of the opposing club.”

As such, “on each scheduled matchday of Nsoatreman FC, three (3) points and three (3) goals shall be awarded in favour of the opposing club,” the GFA confirmed.

The disciplinary process is expected to proceed in line with the provisions of the GFA Regulations.

The decision comes after the former FA Cup champions narrowly escaped a potential attack ahead of their scheduled match against FC Samartex on Monday at DUN’s Park during the Matchday 23 games.

Following the tragic stabbing of an Asante Kotoko supporter during their Matchday 19 clash on February 2, Nsoatreman was banned from hosting games at Nana Kronmansah Park. Tensions have remained high, with reports suggesting that some aggrieved fans are planning retaliation.

In a statement, the club emphasized that they were “forced to take this decision” to prioritize the well-being of their players.

Currently sitting 14th on the league table with 21 points, Nsoatreman was set to face Basake Holy Stars in their next fixture.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to respond to the club’s withdrawal.

Police investigations have since identified a suspect, Brimah, as the alleged perpetrator, though he remains on the run.

In a statement released on Monday, Nsoatreman FC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that those truly responsible are held accountable.

“Life is precious and it is condemnable when life like that of Francis Yaw Frimpong (Nana Pooley) is lost in such a manner,” Nsoatreman said in a statement released.

“It is important to state on record that since the said death, management has been assisting the police with investigating the circumstances of the death, and in bringing to justice the person(s) who are accomplice in the death of Nana Pooley.

“It is the believe of management that the real culprits will be brought to book and justice served.”

Dr. Tony Aubynn calls for action on officiating after tragic death https://www.adomonline.com/dr-tony-aubynn-calls-for-action-on-officiating-after-tragic-death/ Tue, 18 Feb 2025 14:48:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2505893 Chairman of the Local League Committee, Dr. Tony Aubynn, has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to address the ongoing issue of questionable officiating in the country’s football leagues.

Officiating in Ghanaian football has been under increasing scrutiny in recent years, with controversial referee decisions leading to violent incidents in both the Ghana Premier League and Division One League.

In the wake of the tragic death of Francis Frimpong (also known as Nana Pooley) during the Matchday 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park, Dr. Aubynn identified officiating as a significant issue contributing to frustration and mistrust among fans.

He stressed the importance of tackling the root of the problem: officiating, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“We need to go to the core of the problem, which is officiating,” Dr. Aubynn told Graphic Sports. “We need to understand why people are suspicious of officiating and why some believe that a match must be won by all means by a particular team.”

Dr. Aubynn also emphasized the need to educate spectators, highlighting that football should be a source of unity and joy, not violence.

“Football should be a source of unity and joy, not an arena for violence,” he added.

Condemning the violence surrounding the incident, Dr. Aubynn stressed that football is meant to entertain, not incite conflict.

“I condemn that with every negative word you can find because football shouldn’t lead to that kind of outcome. Football is entertainment, not war, not death, and I am highly disappointed in what happened,” he expressed.

He further underscored the importance of accountability and reform in handling football-related incidents, calling for severe action against those involved in violence.

“Football is a game of passion, but that passion should not lead to criminality,” Dr. Aubynn stated. “This is a game that brings joy to millions, not something that should result in death or injury. If someone commits a crime at the stadium, they must face the same criminal justice system of Ghana. This should not be dismissed as an incident that occurred at the stadium.”

In response to the growing concerns of hooliganism, the GFA has introduced measures to enhance safety and improve matchday protocols at stadiums across the country, warning clubs to comply or face severe sanctions.

Pooley was murdered by unknown assailants during Asante Kotoko’s Matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC at Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre. In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) suspended all Matchday 20 games in the Ghana Premier League.

Speaking on the matter, Zakour blamed inadequate security measures for the tragedy.

“I blame the security for the violence in Nsoatre. What I saw was that the security couldn’t control what happened,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“It is about time we sit up and do what is needful.”

He urged the Ghana Police Service to ensure that justice is served, warning that failure to act decisively could encourage further violence.

“The Ghana Police Service should sit up and bring out the person who killed Nana Pooley. They must handle this issue well so it serves as a lesson to everyone.”

In protest, Asante Kotoko has announced that they will not participate in any football matches until full justice is served.

Meanwhile, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with Pooley’s death, including Nsoatreman FC’s bankroller, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah.

The former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations has been placed under a movement restriction order by the District Court “B” in Sunyani.

In response to growing concerns over matchday violence, the GFA has introduced new safety and security protocols across all competitions. These measures include appointing Club Safety and Security Officers and installing CCTV cameras at match venues.

Clubs failing to comply face sanctions, including a GH₵20,000 fine and a venue ban.

The club has been at the center of controversy following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, during their Matchday 19 clash in the ongoing 2024/25 season. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, both locally and internationally.

In response to the violence, the GFA suspended Matchday 20 fixtures as part of efforts to enforce regulations and maintain order at match venues.

Amid the turmoil, Nsoatreman FC announced their decision to pull out of the league. However, Acheampong has stressed that such a move comes with repercussions.

“The regulations are clear. If a club enters a competition and decides to withdraw midway, there are consequences,” he stated.

“Nsoatreman committed to playing the league until the end. If they opt out now, the Premier League regulations will apply accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested six individuals, including Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah, in connection with the tragic incident.

Ignatius Baffour Awuah will never incite violence – Former Nsoatreman FC GM https://www.adomonline.com/ignatius-baffour-awuah-will-never-incite-violence-former-nsoatreman-fc-gm/ Wed, 05 Feb 2025 23:22:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2501158 Former General Manager of Nsoatreman FC, Eric Alagidede, has rejected allegations that Ignatius Baffour Awuah was involved in inciting violence during the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.

Baffour Awuah, the former Employment and Labour Minister, is currently under legal scrutiny after appearing in court with two others over the violent incidents that led to the tragic death of Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, known as Pooley.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Alagidede defended Baffour Awuah, describing him as a dedicated football fan and a long-time supporter of Asante Kotoko.

He expressed confidence that Baffour Awuah would never encourage harm towards the club.

“The Ignatius Baffour Awuah I know is passionate about football. He always wants to win, but I don’t think he can even hurt a fly or incite violence,” Alagidede stated. “He is a known Kotoko fan and used to contribute to the club to help buy players. He is the last person who would want to harm Kotoko,” he added.

Baffour Awuah was granted bail on Tuesday, though he remains under travel restrictions.

In response to the violent incidents, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended the match venue and charged Nsoatreman FC for their role in the disturbances.

Additionally, the GFA has suspended the Matchday 20 fixtures of the Ghana Premier League.

Court curtails movements of Ignatius Baffour-Awuah https://www.adomonline.com/court-curtails-movements-of-ignatius-baffour-awuah/ Wed, 05 Feb 2025 06:32:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2500823 A District Court “B” in Sunyani has imposed restrictions on the movements of Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the former Employment and Labour Relations Minister.

As part of his bail conditions, the former Sunyani West MP, who is also the owner and financier of Nsoatreman Football Club (FC), cannot leave or travel outside the Sunyani Municipality without judicial approval.

The court, presided over by Eric Daning, gave the order when the former minister, 58, and two other suspects, Agyemang Duah Owusu, his bodyguard, and Joseph Kyeremeh, appeared before it on Tuesday.

They were in court for their alleged involvement in the tragic murder of Francis Frimpong, an ardent supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, during a violent disturbance on Sunday, February 2, 2025, which resulted in Frimpong’s death.

The incident occurred when Nsoatreman FC hosted Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC in Matchday 19 of the Ghana Premier League at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II Stadium.

When the case was heard, the court charged Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh with “abetment to commit a crime, to wit murder” under Sections 20(1) and 46 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

They were granted bail of GH¢500,000 each, with one surety to be justified. However, Mr. Baffour-Awuah was ordered to submit his passport to the court registry for 14 days.

The court charged Owusu with murder and remanded him in police custody. The suspects will reappear in court on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Prosecuting, Inspector Alexander Oppong told the court that the suspects were involved in the murder of the deceased and prayed that they all be remanded in custody to assist with investigations.

He added that a search conducted in Owusu’s room led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected blood stains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.

However, defense counsel Moses Obah prayed the court to grant his clients bail, arguing that they were prominent personalities who would cooperate with police investigations.

However, he acknowledged the challenges with finishing, emphasizing that securing a goal will be key to ensuring they return to Kumasi with all three points.

“From a technical point of view, we need to make sure we keep a very good compact shape when we don’t have the ball so that we close the spaces they will use to punish us and then the few chances that come our way we convert them,” he said.

“For now, chance creation has not been an issue for us, the issue is converting the numerous goal-scoring chances we’ve managed to create. Once we create these chances and we are able to score we will be fine,” he added.

The highly anticipated match is set to kick off at 15:00 GMT.

Alagidede, a young and promising football administrator, officially resigned on Monday, December 16.

His sudden departure has sparked speculation, particularly after the club’s owner, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, lost his parliamentary seat in the recently concluded 2024 general elections.

Addressing the issue on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Alagidede emphasized that his resignation was based purely on personal reasons.

“I did not resign based on political reasons. I’m a principled person and I always uphold my principles. I took a personal decision to leave this club some few months back,” he said.

“I decided to stay on because some people asked me to stay but I think that the time has come for me to move on. I think the applause is still loud and it is my personal decision to leave. It is time for someone to continue the good work I did,” he added.

During his tenure at Nsoatreman FC, Alagidede played a key role in the club’s success, leading them to an FA Cup triumph after defeating regional rivals Bofoakwa Tano.

CAF CC: Playing in the group stage was our target – Nsoatreman FC’s Eric Alagidede https://www.adomonline.com/caf-cc-playing-in-the-group-stage-was-our-target-nsoatreman-fcs-eric-alagidede/ Wed, 25 Sep 2024 11:48:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2453135 General Manager of Nsoatreman FC, Eric Alagidede, has expressed his disappointment following the team’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nsoatreman started their campaign on a promising note, securing a victory against Chadian side Elect Sport in the preliminary round.

However, they encountered a more formidable opponent in the second round, facing Algerian club CS Constantine, where they were defeated 3-0 on aggregate over two legs.

“Group stage qualification was our target,” Alagidede told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show following their elimination.

“We were punching above our weight but I am convinced that if we should have played against West African teams, we would have qualified.

“I am disappointed because of the financial burden and not getting any financial gains from playing in the preliminary games but I am also proud of my technical team and the players. I know when we get the opportunity, we will achieve our target,” he added.

Nsoatreman FC will shift its focus to the Ghana Premier League as they aim to defend their FA Cup title.

Yaw Preko and his squad will face Accra Lions in their Matchday four game at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Govt must have interest to develop football – Nsoatreman FC General Manager https://www.adomonline.com/govt-must-have-interest-to-develop-football-nsoatreman-fc-general-manager/ Wed, 25 Sep 2024 11:45:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2453102 General Manager of Nsoatreman FC, Eric Alagidede has appealed to the Government of Ghana to invest in the development of football in the nation.

His appeal is after his side suffered an elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup followng a 3-0 aggregate defeat against CS Constantine in their first-ever appearance in the tournament.

Nsoatreman suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first leg and a 1-0 loss in the second leg.

Speaking to Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show after their exit, Alagidede emphasized the need for government’s support in football development to enhance the country’s performance on the continental stage.

“Government must have an interest in developing our game. CS Constantine flew straight to the country but when we were going there, we had to fly to Istanbul, Algers and then to Constantine.

“For the North Africans, the country is deeply involved because when the team qualifies, they see it as the country that has qualified so it is about time that government must invest in our game.”

Alagidede also pointed out the lack of an approved stadium for their matches, expressing concern over the current state of Ghanaian football.

“Even if we should have qualified, we don’t even have an approved stadium that we would have played our matches. It is worrying and we must learn to do that right thing to ensure our game gets to the next level,” he added.

CAF CC: Ntwo Gyan reveals what led to Nsoatreman FC’s early exit https://www.adomonline.com/caf-cc-ntwo-gyan-reveals-what-led-to-nsoatreman-fcs-early-exit/ Mon, 23 Sep 2024 20:23:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2452425 Ghana Premier League icon, Kofi Ntow Gyan, has attributed Nsoatreman FC’s early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup to their lack of experience.

The Ghana FA Cup winners were knocked out in their debut appearance in the competition, suffering a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Algerian club CS Constantine.

After a 2-0 loss at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg, Nsoatreman fell 1-0 in the return fixture in Algeria, sealing their elimination.

Former Ghana international Gyan believes that their inexperience in continental football played a major role in their failure to advance to the group stage.

“This was their first time playing in Africa, and they are unfamiliar with the challenges of this level, so inexperience hurt them,” Gyan said in an interview with Asempa FM.

“If we are 50 in a class, and I finish 50th in the first term and 49th in the second term, it’s still progress, right? So, for Nsoatreman to lose just 1-0 away in Algeria, I believe they did well.”

Assessing their overall performance as debutants in Africa’s second-tier inter-club competition, Gyan stated that Nsoatreman should be praised for their efforts instead of being vilified.

“Previously, we used to rely on just Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak every season to play in Africa. But now, things have changed,” Gyan said.

“Nsoatreman lost 2-0 at home, and people thought when they went away, CS Constantine would beat them by a huge scoreline.

“If we are 50 in a class, and I finished 50th in the first term and 49th in the second term, you see there is improvement? So Nsoatreman conceding just 1-0 away in Algeria, I think they have done well,” he added.

Nsoatreman will now focus on the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup, hoping to secure a spot in Africa again next season by winning one of these competitions.

Nsoatreman FC has been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup following a 1-0 loss to CS Constantine.

Having suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Ghana FA Cup champions faced an uphill task in the return leg, played at the Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui on Saturday.

Zakaria Benchaa scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute, solidifying the Algerian side’s dominance throughout the match.

Nsoatreman struggled to create meaningful chances, with CS Constantine controlling much of the game.

The Algerian side’s 3-0 aggregate victory means Nsoatreman’s African campaign has come to an early end.

Despite their efforts, Nsoatreman couldn’t break down Constantine’s resilient defence. Their exit marks the conclusion of their debut season in African club football.

Yaw Preko and his charges will now shift its focus back to domestic competitions, where they will look to defend their FA Cup title or challenge for the Ghana Premier League crown to earn another shot at continental glory.
