Mr Frimpong made the appeal while hosting a year-end dinner for delegates and supporters in the constituency, urging members to put aside internal divisions and work together for the success of the party.

Addressing the gathering, the NPP stalwart reminded attendees that the party has historically thrived on unity and stressed the need for members to uphold that tradition as it prepares for future electoral contests.

He explained that the event was deliberately organised to bring party faithful together as one family, with the aim of strengthening cohesion and solidarity within the constituency.

Looking ahead, Mr Frimpong encouraged party members to take advantage of the fresh start in 2026 to build a strong and united front capable of reclaiming power in the 2028 general election and beyond, urging them to focus on shared objectives rather than past disagreements.

NPP still grappling with 2024 election defeat but… – General Secretary https://www.adomonline.com/npp-still-grappling-with-2024-election-defeat-but-general-secretary/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 14:46:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2615207 The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has admitted that the party is still coming to terms with its defeat in the December 7, 2024, general elections.

In a New Year message to party supporters, Mr. Kodua described the past year as challenging, acknowledging that the loss remains painful for many members. However, he stressed that the setback does not define the future of the NPP.

According to him, the party’s true strength lies in its core values, resilience and long-standing commitment to national development, rather than the outcome of a single election.

“The past year has tested us deeply,” he said, adding that the NPP has faced difficult moments before and has always emerged stronger through unity and determination.

Mr. Kodua revealed that the party has begun addressing weaknesses exposed by the electoral defeat, noting that several internal reforms are currently underway to reposition the NPP for future political contests.

He mentioned proposed constitutional amendments, the establishment of a training and research centre known as the Patriotic Institute, and the reactivation of the party’s membership dues payment system as key components of the reform agenda.

According to him, these measures are aimed at strengthening party structures and improving organisation at all levels.

Looking ahead, the General Secretary said the party has outlined major activities for the year, including the presidential primary, nationwide elections of party officers, and a reconciliation and unity campaign.

He assured members that all internal elections would be conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Mr. Kodua also cautioned against internal divisions as the party prepares for a keenly contested presidential race, urging members to shun factionalism and focus on rebuilding trust and cohesion.

He praised the Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for what he described as a firm and principled opposition, and commended party executives and grassroots supporters for remaining loyal despite the loss of political power.

Mr. Kodua called on party faithful to remain confident and hopeful, expressing optimism that the NPP will rebuild and return stronger through reflection, resilience and collective effort.

Let us keep our eyes on the prize; we must win 2028 for Ghana – Bawumia urges NPP members https://www.adomonline.com/let-us-keep-our-eyes-on-the-prize-we-must-win-2028-for-ghana-bawumia-urges-npp-members/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 12:13:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2615184 Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party members to prioritise Ghana’s national interest over internal disagreements as the party prepares to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

In a New Year message to NPP members, Dr. Bawumia stressed that the party’s ultimate goal must be victory in 2028, noting that the stakes go beyond individual ambitions or internal competition.

He called on supporters to remain focused despite distractions, rumours, and perceived divisions within the party.

“To every NPP member listening to me, let us keep our eyes fixed on the prize. We must win 2028 for the sake of Ghana,” he said.

The former Vice President cautioned that escalating internal tensions could weaken the party’s chances of regaining power, emphasising that disunity serves only the interests of political opponents. He therefore urged members to avoid actions or rhetoric that could further fracture the party.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted that the ongoing flagbearership contest should be guided by ideas, vision, and policy direction rather than personal attacks, warning that negative campaigning within the party provides ammunition to opponents ahead of the 2028 polls.

According to him, a disciplined and issue-based contest would not only strengthen internal cohesion but also enhance the NPP’s appeal to the Ghanaian electorate as it positions itself for a return to government.

“We should not be distracted by the storms around us, the rumours, or the perceived divisions. Let us set aside anything that has the potential to divide our party further. This flagbearership contest should be about ideas and vision—not personal attacks. Engaging in anti-party acts only hands ammunition to our opponents,” he added.

NPP cautions presidential hopefuls against factional politics, urges unity https://www.adomonline.com/npp-cautions-presidential-hopefuls-against-factional-politics-urges-unity/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 11:59:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2615182 The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned its presidential hopefuls against engaging in factional politics, stressing that unity, rather than internal rivalry, will be key to the party’s recovery following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

In a New Year message to party members on January 1, 2026, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said that although the upcoming presidential contest is expected to be keenly contested, aspirants must avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the party.

He emphasised that the NPP’s strength has always been built on solidarity and collective purpose, not factional dominance.

Mr. Kodua acknowledged that the December 7, 2024 electoral loss remains painful, but insisted the party is far from broken. He noted that the NPP has weathered difficult moments in the past and emerged stronger through unity, discipline, and commitment.

He disclosed that the party has already commenced a structured rebuilding process, including constitutional reforms, the establishment of the Patriotic Institute for training and research, and preparations for key internal elections, including the presidential primary.

Mr. Kodua assured members that the party’s leadership is committed to conducting free, fair, and transparent internal elections, with reconciliation and unity at the heart of the rebuilding agenda.

He also commended the Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for standing firm in opposition and praised the party’s legal team for defending the NPP’s interests during what he described as challenging times.

The General Secretary urged grassroots members to remain hopeful and steadfast, cautioning against despair despite the loss of political power. He stressed that rebuilding the party will require humility, sacrifice, and collective effort, rather than factional loyalty.

He reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to Ghana and called on party members and the general public to embrace peace, unity, and renewal as the party charts its path forward.

NPP begins nationwide exhibition of voter register ahead of presidential primaries https://www.adomonline.com/npp-begins-nationwide-exhibition-of-voter-register-ahead-of-presidential-primaries/ Wed, 31 Dec 2025 06:43:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614788 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rolled out a nationwide exhibition of its voter register as part of preparations toward its 2026 presidential primaries, a move the party says is aimed at strengthening transparency and credibility within its internal electoral process.

In a statement issued by the party’s Presidential Elections Committee (PEC), the NPP confirmed that copies of the 2026 Presidential Elections Voter Register have been dispatched to all constituencies through the Regional Secretariats.

Signed and dated December 29, 2025, by the PEC Secretary, William Yamoah, the statement explained that the exercise will allow party delegates and other stakeholders to cross-check their personal details at the constituency and regional levels.

The exhibition is expected to help uncover and correct errors such as missing names, spelling mistakes, incorrect or absent photographs, and other clerical issues that could potentially affect eligibility and participation in the presidential election.

Regional and Constituency Executive Committees, working through their designated IT officers, have been tasked to officially document and submit all identified discrepancies for immediate correction.

The verification exercise is scheduled to run from Wednesday, December 31, 2025, to Monday, January 5, 2026.

To ensure broad participation and transparency, the party has urged Regional and Constituency Executives, members of the Constituency Council of Elders, Constituency Patrons, and Electoral Area Coordinators to actively support the process across the country.

The NPP has also invited all presidential aspirants to nominate representatives to observe the exercise at the constituency level, reinforcing the party’s commitment to openness and fairness.

The party maintains that the exhibition of the voter register is a critical step toward delivering a free, fair, and credible internal election as it prepares for the 2026 presidential race.

I’ll restore discipline in NPP – Bryan Acheampong https://www.adomonline.com/ill-restore-discipline-in-npp-bryan-acheampong/ Wed, 24 Dec 2025 07:44:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613644 The Member of Parliament for Abetifi and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has vowed to restore discipline within the party if elected flagbearer.

Speaking on JoyNews, Dr Acheampong said the absence of consequences for misconduct has contributed to a breakdown of discipline within the NPP.

“People are now allowed to say whatever they want on any platform, and there are no consequences for those actions. This is breaking down discipline in our party,” he said.

He assured party members that under his leadership, public insults and unrestrained attacks would no longer be tolerated.

“I will restore discipline. I can assure you that those who go around insulting everyone, regardless of whom they support, will no longer find space in our party from 1 February, if I become the candidate on 31 January,” he stated.

The Abetifi MP stressed that discipline within the party must be enforced without delay.

“Leave the details to me, but I can assure you that if I am elected on 31 January, discipline will be restored in the NPP from 1 February. It cannot continue the way it has been,” he added.

He said his first step would be to unite the various factions within the party.

“First of all, we will bring all the factions together, lay down our tools, and begin conversations about building bridges and restoring discipline in our party. That process will start on 1 January 2026,” he said.

Dr Acheampong emphasised the need for firm and decisive leadership to rebuild trust within the party.

“If there is a leader they can trust—one who will not remain silent or merely nod in the face of wrongdoing—I will stand for something, take responsibility, and ensure that discipline runs through our party from top to bottom,” he added.

NPP sets up committee to review Constitutional Review Committee proposals https://www.adomonline.com/npp-sets-up-committee-to-review-constitutional-review-committee-proposals/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 19:24:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613564 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has constituted a joint committee to examine the final proposals submitted by the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) to the President and to advise the party’s National Council on an official position.

The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, disclosed this in a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday, December 23, following the presentation of the CRC’s final report to the President a day earlier.

He explained that the NPP leadership had earlier established the joint committee as part of its engagement in the constitutional review process, with a mandate to develop and submit the party’s proposals to the CRC.

The committee is co-chaired by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, and the Chairman of the NPP’s Constitutional and Legal Committee, Frank Davies Esq.

“With the submission of the CRC’s final proposals to the President, the General Secretary of the party has now directed the joint committee to carefully study the recommendations and advise the National Council accordingly,” Mr Boakye said.

He noted that the move reflects the party’s structured and consultative approach to constitutional reform, aimed at ensuring its response is guided by detailed analysis and collective deliberation.

The joint committee comprises several senior party officials and Members of Parliament, including Hassan Tampuli, O.B. Amoah, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Gary Nimako Esq., Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, Fati Abubakar, and Hanifa Adjoa Yahaya.

Mr Boakye urged party members and supporters to exercise restraint in public commentary on the CRC proposals while the internal review process is ongoing.

“All party members are encouraged to be cautious with their commentary on the proposals of the CRC as we await the outcome of the joint committee’s study,” he stated.

He assured that the NPP’s official position on the CRC’s final proposals would be communicated in due course, adding that the party intends to speak with one voice after the consultations are concluded.

‘Unreasonable behavior’ has no expression in the NPP – Akosua Manu https://www.adomonline.com/unreasonable-behavior-has-no-expression-in-the-npp-akosua-manu/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 19:22:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613556 Special Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Asaa Manu, popularly known as Kozie, has emphasized the need for discipline and unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party prepares to elect its flagbearer next month.

Speaking on Movement Radio on Monday, December 22, 2025, Kozie addressed growing public discourse around internal party conduct, campaign tensions, and recent controversies involving party actors.

According to her, the NPP remains a values-driven political organisation. She said the party’s traditions are anchored in respect, the rule of law, and responsible political engagement.

“The NPP is a party with a strong tradition and clear values. We have well-defined structures and disciplinary processes. Unreasonable behaviour, no matter who is involved, finds no expression here,” Kozie stated.

While acknowledging that internal competition can be intense, especially during party elections, she urged members to prioritise discipline and cohesion. She cautioned supporters and communicators of various factions against actions or statements that could fracture unity or damage the party’s public image.

“Our conduct reflects on the entire party. Reckless commentary, misinformation, and personal attacks do not serve our collective interests,” she noted.

Kozie stressed that unity is essential as the party prepares for the January 31 elections. She warned that internal divisions have historically weakened political parties. She therefore urged surrogates to be mindful and conduct their campaigns in ways that do not harm the party.

“Elections are won by united parties. Differences must be resolved with respect, discipline, and loyalty to the party’s cause,” she added.

Her comments come amid rising political tensions ahead of the NPP’s internal activities. Attention is increasingly focused on the conduct of aspirants, surrogates, and grassroots supporters as the January 31 flagbearer election approaches.

Serve NPP, not an individual – Kwabena Agyepong appeals to members [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/serve-npp-not-an-individual-kwabena-agyepong-appeals-to-members-listen/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 15:27:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613495 A presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, has called on party members to place their loyalty first and foremost in the party, rather than in any individual.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he said, “People will come and go. Adu Boahen came, he left. Kufuor came, he left. Akufo-Addo came, and he has also left. We have to worship the NPP. Our first loyalty has to be to the party and not an individual.”

He added that while members may support the flagbearer, that support should come after prioritising the party.

“Even before we transfer that loyalty to whoever gets elected as flagbearer—and in this case I am praying that person will be me—even if it’s not me, it is nothing, as it is a party we are all joining,” he said.

Kwabena Agyepong, who has served as the NPP’s General Secretary, also defended his role as a custodian of the party’s history.

“I have been in the party for long, and I believe I am a custodian of the real historical record of this party. So, if someone is saying something and it’s not true, I have the right to correct it,” he stated.

He further stressed the need for strong leadership to address national challenges.

“I am here to campaign, and I urge Ghanaians that we need a leader who will change the country. We are making things worse in this country, and so we need change,” he said.

Mr. Agyepong concluded by reiterating the importance of prioritising the party over individuals. “We have to serve the NPP, not an individual,” he stressed.

The New Patriotic Party is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries in January 2026 to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

NPP Primaries: Electoral Area Coordinators in Yunyoo, Chereponi and Saboba declare support for Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/npp-primaries-electoral-area-coordinators-in-yunyoo-chereponi-and-saboba-declare-support-for-bawumia/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 13:36:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612192 Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s growing momentum in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries received a significant boost on Wednesday following emphatic endorsements from key party officials.

All Electoral Area Coordinators in the Yunyoo and Chereponi constituencies in the North East Region, as well as Saboba in the Northern Region, openly declared their support for Dr Bawumia.

On the final day of his tour of the North East Region, the Yunyoo and Chereponi constituencies followed the example of Yagaba, Walewale and Bunkpurugu, which had announced similar mass declarations a day earlier.

During separate engagements in Yunyoo and Chereponi, all Electoral Area Coordinators stepped forward to formally announce their support in the presence of Dr Bawumia and a packed gathering that included polling station executives.

From there, Dr Bawumia proceeded to the Saboba Constituency in the Northern Region, where Electoral Area Coordinators also endorsed him en bloc.

In all three constituencies, the coordinators, while pledging their full support and commitment to work for the former Vice President, urged him not to campaign to them, insisting that it would be unnecessary since they had already made up their minds to vote for him.

At Saboba, where party supporters initially resisted his attempt to address them, Dr Bawumia appealed for the opportunity to speak. When they eventually agreed, he delivered a brief ten-minute address — far shorter than his usual hour-long campaign message — during which he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support.

Dr Bawumia’s campaign has continued to attract strong backing at the grassroots level, with Electoral Area Coordinators in several constituencies across the country publicly endorsing his candidature.

Electoral Area Coordinators constitute a key bloc within the NPP’s electoral college, and political analysts regard their support as critical to success in the party’s presidential primaries. They work closely with polling station executives, and endorsements at the electoral area level often reflect broader support within the party’s grassroots structures.

Speaking during the engagement, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, described the meeting as a necessary step to ensure effective coordination and preparedness for internal party elections.

He assured the Committee that the Ghana Police Service, working alongside sister security agencies, would collaborate with the Electoral Commission and the NPP to implement appropriate security measures to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process.

The IGP further reaffirmed the commitment of the National Election Security Taskforce to work closely with all stakeholders to maintain law and order, as well as public safety, before, during and after the elections.

Ken Agyapong’s vision to become president is genuine – Kwasi Kwarteng https://www.adomonline.com/ken-agyapongs-vision-to-become-president-is-genuine-kwasi-kwarteng/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 19:24:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610658 Kwasi Kwarteng, Deputy Spokesperson for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, has maintained that Mr Agyapong’s presidential ambition is founded on genuine intentions to serve the nation.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Monday, December 15, Mr Kwarteng said Mr Agyapong’s decision is driven by a desire to address the challenges confronting Ghana in a sincere and solutions-oriented manner, rather than to advance any personal agenda.

“Ken does not want to be the president of Ghana just to advance individual purpose, political ambitions and future aspirations. He wants to become the president of Ghana to solve problems, the problems that confront us as a society, the problems of unemployment, the problem of jobs.”

He stressed that the flagbearer hopeful is motivated by a commitment to national development and a readiness to confront long-standing socio-economic issues with honesty and resolve.

“His ambition of becoming president stems from the place of genuine concerns to come and solve the problems that confront us as a state. At no point is Ken indeed coming to advance the future ambition of any person or soever,” he added.

Mr Kwarteng made the remarks while responding to recent comments by former Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, insisting that Mr Agyapong’s vision to lead the country is rooted in genuine public service and a clear understanding of the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.

Kpandai rerun: NPP more united than NDC – Mussa Dankwah https://www.adomonline.com/kpandai-rerun-npp-more-united-than-ndc-mussa-dankwah/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 09:08:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610387 Pollster and Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently appears more united than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kpandai constituency, a factor he believes could prove decisive in the upcoming parliamentary rerun.

Speaking on the AM Show, Dankwah explained that recent polling data shows strong internal cohesion within the NPP, while the NDC is experiencing noticeable cracks in voter loyalty, particularly among key demographics.

“But the guy is very strong. I think we can’t take that away from him. He has to hold his own and make sure there’s no division within his rank,” Dankwah said, referring to the NPP candidate, Matthew Nyindam.

“From the data we’ve seen, NPP is solid behind their candidate, whereas NDC is fragmented in that area at the moment.”

His comments follow the release of a Global InfoAnalytics survey ahead of the Kpandai parliamentary rerun, which places Nyindam narrowly in the lead.

The poll shows the NPP candidate securing 50 per cent of voter support, with the NDC’s Daniel Nsala Wakpal close behind on 46 per cent.

According to the findings, independent candidate Donkor Eric Nipani is projected to receive about one per cent of the vote, while three per cent of respondents remain undecided. With a margin of error of ±3.9 per cent, the poll suggests the race is still too close to call.

Dankwah noted that the NDC’s challenge goes beyond headline numbers, pointing to signs of uncertainty within its support base, especially among women voters.

“If you look at those who voted for this candidate, some of the women are saying they are undecided. So, something is not right in NDC there,” he observed, adding that internal party divisions could cost the opposition if not addressed quickly.

He cautioned, however, that the dynamics could still shift before election day, stressing that voter sentiment remains fluid in closely contested races such as Kpandai.

The Kpandai rerun has attracted national attention, with both major parties intensifying campaigns in the constituency, seen as a key political battleground. Analysts say turnout, party unity and last-minute persuasion of undecided voters are likely to determine the outcome.

Survey shows Dr Bawumia as clear front-runner in NPP flagbearer race https://www.adomonline.com/survey-shows-dr-bawumia-as-clear-front-runner-in-npp-flagbearer-race/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 08:37:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610375 A new survey among members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has placed Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the overwhelming favourite to win the party’s flagbearership, just weeks ahead of the delegates’ vote.

The poll, conducted by Governance Lab Africa between November and December 2025, found that 51.8 per cent of the 340 party members surveyed would vote for Dr Bawumia if the presidential primary were held today.

He enjoys a commanding lead over his closest challengers, with Dr Bryan Acheampong polling 20.6 per cent and Kennedy Agyapong securing 18.8 per cent support.

According to the survey’s executive summary, “Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerges as the clear frontrunner,” with a significant advantage over the rest of the field. The report further noted that voter preferences appear largely settled, with 84.4 per cent of respondents saying their choice of candidate is firmly decided.

The pollsters, however, cautioned that the findings reflect the views of general party members and not the actual delegates who will vote in the January 2026 primary, adding that internal party dynamics and lobbying could still influence the final outcome.

The survey also highlighted that economic concerns are shaping the race, with job creation and youth unemployment emerging as the top issue for 46.5 per cent of respondents ahead of the 2028 general election. Electability was another key factor, with 44.1 per cent of respondents saying the candidate’s ability to win the 2028 election is the most important quality they seek in a flagbearer.

Demographically, the sample was largely male (87.9 per cent) and highly educated, with 92.9 per cent holding tertiary qualifications. Despite the proximity of the primary, about 73.8 per cent of respondents admitted they were not closely following developments in the contest.

With the primary scheduled for next month, the findings suggest that Dr Acheampong and Mr Agyapong face an uphill battle in closing a more than 30-percentage-point gap in a race where most party members appear to have already made up their minds.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kodua claimed that the recent removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo by the Mahama administration is part of a broader plan to “capture the judiciary” and eliminate any legal obstacles to a potential future Mahama bid.

He argued that the circumstances surrounding Justice Torkornoo’s dismissal were questionable, noting that petitions against her were not heard, yet she was removed from office.

According to Mr. Kodua, subsequent rulings in politically sensitive cases suggest bias, which he described as evidence of a coordinated effort by the NDC.

He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant, stressing that these developments pose a serious threat to democratic governance and the independence of the judiciary.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kodua said every Ghanaian should be concerned about the direction in which the NDC is heading, particularly regarding judicial independence.

He claimed that the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo by the Mahama-led administration was politically driven, arguing that the reasons for her dismissal were unclear and that the petition against her was never properly heard.

“The moment the Mahama-led administration removed the former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, we knew they had a plan because the reasons were blurry. The petitions weren’t even heard; she was just sacked,” he alleged.

Mr. Kodua further pointed to recent rulings in politically related cases as evidence of what he believes are partisan influences.

“The judgments and rulings coming from political cases — you don’t need a soothsayer to tell you that it is politically biased,” he said.

He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and protect the independence of the judiciary, insisting that safeguarding the courts is essential for preserving the country’s democratic integrity.

NPP National Organiser slams High Court judge over Kpandai rerun ruling https://www.adomonline.com/npp-national-organiser-slams-high-court-judge-over-kpandai-rerun-ruling/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 16:04:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2608672 The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has sharply criticised the High Court judge who ordered a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election, describing the ruling as unjust, flawed, and an overreach of judicial authority.

The rerun order was issued by Justice Emmanuel Bart Plange Brew of the Tamale High Court, after which Parliament on Monday, December 8, 2025, officially declared the Kpandai seat vacant and notified the Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Tuesday, December 9, Nana B accused the judge of mishandling the burden of proof, arguing that the ruling favoured speculation over evidence.

“This is not interpretation; this is dictatorship from the bench. Clearly, in this case, the burden of proof was cynically manipulated by this judge,” he stated.

He further criticised the court for failing to hold the petitioner accountable for alleged vandalism that forced the relocation of the collation centre during the election and for accepting what he described as vague and unsubstantiated claims of irregularities.

“The petitioner produced no credible tally, yet speculation became acceptable,” Nana B added.

NDC has betrayed voters’ trust – NPP https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-has-betrayed-voters-trust-npp/ Wed, 03 Dec 2025 14:22:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2606734 NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of failing to deliver on key campaign promises and misusing state power.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, during the unveiling of the NPP’s amended constitution, Mr. Kodua said Ghanaians had given the NDC an “overwhelming mandate” in the 2024 elections, expecting decisive action on illegal mining, stronger governance, and improved security.

“Nearly a year later, those expectations remain unmet,” he said, adding that the fight against illegal mining, or galamsey, has worsened, posing an “existential threat” to the nation’s environment.

He also alleged that state agencies are being deployed to intimidate political opponents and silence critical media voices.

“We have witnessed an escalation in abuse of incumbency and state-sponsored intimidation of political opponents in the media,” Mr. Kodua said.

He further accused the government of withdrawing court cases to shield officials accused of misappropriating public funds and attempting to influence independent state institutions, including moves to overturn NPP-held parliamentary seats.

Mr. Kodua also criticised the executive’s handling of the judiciary, highlighting the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

“Sadly, the judiciary, which should be the final defender of the rule of law, has been captured by the executive. Judges now fear dispensing justice impartially for fear of reprisals,” he said.

Nyindam suffered ‘substantial miscarriage of justice’; SC must correct it – NPP https://www.adomonline.com/nyindam-suffered-substantial-miscarriage-of-justice-sc-must-correct-it-npp/ Tue, 02 Dec 2025 06:35:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2605979 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako Marfo, has defended Kpandai MP, Matthew Nyindam, for filing at the Supreme Court to quash the High Court’s election annulment.

He insisted that the Kpandai MP has suffered a substantial miscarriage of justice, urging the Supreme Court to intervene and overturn the High Court ruling that nullified his 2024 parliamentary victory.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, December 1, Mr Nimako argued that the High Court, Commercial Division, in Tamale, fundamentally erred by assuming jurisdiction over a petition that was filed out of time.

“Matthew Nyindam has suffered a substantial miscarriage of justice before the court, and the Supreme Court must correct this injustice. We are simply saying that at the time the NDC petition was filed, the court ought not to have entertained the matter at all, let alone proceed to hear it and deliver judgement.”
he stated.

This follows Mr Nyindam’s application to the Supreme Court seeking to annul the High Court judgement, which ordered a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election.

According to Mr Nimako, the original election petition filed by the NDC did not meet the mandatory 21-day statutory deadline required after the publication of the gazette.

He explained that the petition challenging Mr. Nyindam’s election was filed on January 25, clearly outside the 21-day window, making the entire process void in the NPP’s view.

“We are waiting for the Supreme Court to hear the matter,” he added.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Asenso-Boakye said many residents in Kumasi have expressed regret over voting the NDC back into power.

He lamented the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which stalled several infrastructure projects, including planned major interchanges.

“The NPP’s strength in the Ashanti Region remains strong. I spoke with some people in Kumasi who expressed regret about not voting. The market women and traders are complaining about their sales being down.

“We had plans to create major interchanges, but financial crises disrupted everything. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted our governance and the economy. However, the NPP will return stronger,” he said.

NPP race: January 31 election isn’t a joke; Bawumia is our best bet – Otchere Baafi to delegates https://www.adomonline.com/npp-race-january-31-election-isnt-a-joke-bawumia-is-our-best-bet-otchere-baafi-to-delegates/ Mon, 01 Dec 2025 07:27:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2605575 The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Otchere Baafi, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to throw their full support behind former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s crucial flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Speaking to delegates in Koforidua, Otchere Baafi described the upcoming primary as one of the most significant internal elections in the party’s history.

He stressed that the NPP needs a candidate who is fully prepared, widely recognized, and capable of leading the party’s bid to recapture power in the 2028 general election.

“The 31 January election is not a joke. It is crucial, and we need an experienced person. We need someone who has been well-marketed and is well known by Ghanaians. That person is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

The MP highlighted Dr Bawumia’s loyalty to the party, recalling his steadfast commitment during challenging periods. He noted that among the five contenders — including Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum — Dr Bawumia stands out as the most competitive and widely accepted candidate.

Otchere Baafi further emphasised that electoral success begins at the grassroots, urging polling station executives and local party members to work collectively toward a strong showing in the national elections.

“Politics is local, so the responsibility lies with all of us at the polling station level. It is a collective effort. Let us come together and work hard for the NPP to reclaim power. And the only person who can help us win easily is the experienced and well-marketed Dr Bawumia,” he added.

He expressed optimism that unified support for Dr Bawumia would strengthen the party’s chances of returning to government in 2028.

In difficult times when Bawumia was defending NPP, those making noise now were hiding under tables – Otchere Baafi https://www.adomonline.com/in-difficult-times-when-bawumia-was-defending-npp-those-making-noise-now-were-hiding-under-tables-otchere-baafi/ Sun, 30 Nov 2025 18:43:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2605516 Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Otchere Baafi, has highlighted the dedication and committed service of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the years.

Addressing delegates in his constituency in Koforidua yesterday during Dr Bawumia’s campaign tour, the MP said that at times when the party faced serious challenges and required courageous individuals to defend it, Dr Bawumia stepped forward while others—whom he described as “cowards who are now making noise”—hid under their tables.

“When it was very tough in Ghana, and some top NPP members were hiding under tables, he was the one who stood up for the party,” Otchere Baafi said, referencing the 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court, where Dr Bawumia served as the NPP’s chief witness for eight months.

“He defended the party during the 2012 election petition after the NPP was cheated at the polls. Some of those cowards who went into hiding are now out claiming they are the real party members and that Dr Bawumia is not a true member.”

Baafi, while endorsing Dr Bawumia’s presidential bid, commended him for his crucial role in the election petition and his contribution to subsequent electoral reforms, which he said paved the way for the NPP’s return to power.

“The person who stood up and defended the party at the Supreme Court and ensured that many electoral reforms were implemented—reforms that enabled the NPP to win power—is the one I am endorsing. I urge all of you to support him on January 31.”

He described the 2028 elections as crucial, noting that the NPP needs an experienced and well-marketed candidate such as Dr Bawumia to secure victory.

“I’m saying that the January 31 election is not a joke. It is a crucial election, and we need an experienced person—someone who has been well-marketed and is well-known by Ghanaians. That person is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” the MP said.

Dafeamekpor tells NPP to prepare for Kpandai re-run as NDC begins campaign https://www.adomonline.com/dafeamekpor-tells-npp-to-prepare-for-kpandai-re-run-as-ndc-begins-campaign/ Fri, 28 Nov 2025 18:44:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2605238 The Majority Chief Whip, Nelson Rockson Dafeamekpor, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare for a re-run of the Kpandai parliamentary election, insisting the governing NDC has already hit the ground campaigning in the constituency.

Addressing journalists in Parliament, Dafeamekpor dismissed the Minority’s claims regarding the court ruling on the Kpandai seat, arguing that the NPP should focus on the real contest rather than “peddling falsehood.”

He noted that although Speaker Alban Bagbin has granted incumbent MP Matthew Nyindam a seven-day stay of execution, the NDC views the situation as a clear mandate to mobilise ahead of the re-run.

“We are here to set the record straight: they lost the matter, and they are dazed,” he said. “The battleground is in Kpandai, not in the foyer of Parliament. We, the NDC, are on the ground. We are working.”

Mr Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of remaining in Accra while the NDC intensifies its campaign in the constituency.

“As we speak, we are in Kpandai campaigning. They won’t go and campaign, and when they lose, they blame innocent people,” he added.

The pending re-run stems from a legal challenge to the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary results, a matter both parties have contested for months.

While the Speaker’s ruling temporarily halts the enforcement of the court decision, the Majority maintains that the political reality remains unchanged.

The NDC has already formally notified the NPP to prepare for a fresh contest, describing the re-run as inevitable “rain or shine.”

Atta Akyea should be the one preaching unity, not attacks – Kobby Amoah https://www.adomonline.com/atta-akyea-should-be-the-one-preaching-unity-not-attacks-kobby-amoah/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 19:36:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604326 Kobby Amoah, an aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed disappointment over recent comments made by former Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea.

The senior lawyer had urged NPP delegates to exercise prudence in selecting the party’s next flagbearer, cautioning against choosing anyone who could embarrass Ghana on the international stage.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, Mr Amoah said it was regrettable that a figure of Mr Atta Akyea’s stature would make remarks he believes only heighten tensions within the party.

“Looking at another right respected person like Honourable Samuel Atta Akyea, whom all of us look up to as a role model in the legal profession and in politics, I was expecting language that will unite the party, language that brings everybody together, and a language that makes it easier for the party to move forward after the election,” he said.

He stressed that, at a time when the NPP is preparing for its presidential primaries in January, leaders of his calibre should be championing peace and unity rather than casting aspersions.

“I believe that people of their calibre should be the ones who will be calling us the younger ones and others in the party to order,” he added.

Mr Amoah condemned the comments, describing them as “unfortunate” and misaligned with the party’s need for cohesion as it heads into a crucial internal contest.

Dr Adutwum said the initiative forms part of his broader commitment to strengthening the support system for loyal party members and ensuring fair access to opportunities within the party and government structures. He noted that welfare concerns remain a major issue at the grassroots and require deliberate attention.

Speaking to delegates during his campaign tour of the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, November 25, he said: “I will create a dedicated office at the Jubilee House with a welfare officer whose sole responsibility will be to address the concerns of party members.”

The Education Minister also pledged to introduce a Patriotic Health Insurance Scheme to support party members with medical costs not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He explained that the intervention would help reduce the financial burdens that often prevent members from accessing essential healthcare.

Beyond healthcare, Dr Adutwum outlined plans to provide grants to NPP members engaged in trading to help expand and stabilise their businesses.

He appealed to delegates to back his candidature in the January 2026 flagbearer election, assuring them that he is prepared, confident, and committed to leading the party to victory.

NPP supporters protest over continued detention of former BOST MD  https://www.adomonline.com/npp-supporters-protest-over-continued-detention-of-former-bost-md/ Wed, 19 Nov 2025 14:08:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601889 Scores of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters have gathered at the Accra High Court on Wednesday to protest the continued detention of the former Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Edwin Alfred Provencal.

The supporters argue that Mr Provencal has met all the bail conditions set by the court, yet the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has refused to release him.

They describe the situation as unconstitutional and accuse the investigative body of acting in bad faith.

Speaking to JoyNews, one supporter said, “He is still at EOCO, and the court is waiting for his release, but EOCO is still keeping him there.”

Another added, “…You have given him charges nobody understands. We have done everything you asked. The court has granted him bail, now bring him to court, and you are refusing.”

The demonstrations come as the former BOST MD is expected to appear before the Accra High Court today, Wednesday.

The supporters, who arrived as early as 8 a.m., expressed optimism that he would be released after spending eight days in EOCO custody.

On Tuesday, an Accra Human Rights Court reviewed Provencal’s bail conditions, reducing the initial GH¢60 million bail sum to GH¢30 million with two sureties.

Provencal was arrested on November 10 at the Kotoka International Airport while preparing to travel to Maputo. He is facing allegations of causing financial loss to the state in connection with the government’s Gold for Oil programme.

NPP didn’t listen enough – Napo https://www.adomonline.com/npp-didnt-listen-enough-napo/ Wed, 19 Nov 2025 06:44:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601566 The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, says one hard truth has become clear to him after months of political reflection.

According to him, the NPP under the Nana Akufo-Addo government simply did not listen enough.

The former Education and Energy Minister believes that failure cost the party the trust of the people, with severe consequences.

“One thing I’ve concluded in the last 10 months is that there was a broken trust between citizens and government. The trust that was broken hurt so much so that we saw the results so broken,” he said on Joy News’ PM Express.

Asked by host Evans Mensah what caused that rupture, Dr Opoku Prempeh was direct.

“We didn’t listen enough; we assumed a lot of things we shouldn’t have assumed,” he admitted.

He added that even their sense of purpose as a government came under strain.

Dr Prempeh argued that the global environment made the period even more difficult, saying the world had been shaken on multiple fronts.

“We had gone through the West, global economic climate, medically and economically or health-wise,” he said.

According to him, governments across the world were swept up in a storm, with many overturned, leaving only autocratic regimes able to withstand the shocks.

He highlighted how dramatically the global economy had shifted and pointed to staggering changes in basic costs.

“A container from China that cost $1,200 logistic-wise had risen to $14,000. People’s lifetime savings have been wiped out,” he said.

He added that the human toll was equally devastating.

“People had died in their droves that had never been seen before, without a military crisis or World War. So a lot of things that happened.”

Through it all, Dr Prempeh maintained that despite the difficult global context, their biggest failure was not listening to the public early enough — a failure he believes paved the way for everything that followed.

Patrick Boamah rejects claims that NDC is currently Ghana’s most attractive political party https://www.adomonline.com/patrick-boamah-rejects-claims-that-ndc-is-currently-ghanas-most-attractive-political-party/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 20:00:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601063 The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, says he disagrees with claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is currently the most attractive political party in Ghana.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the NPP MP argued that political momentum can shift at any time and expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can win back supporters who may have drifted.

“I disagree with the notion that the NDC is the most attractive party now. Power can do anything, but we can win all our lost supporters back,” he said.

Mr. Boamah stressed that any evaluation of the NDC’s capability should be based on their actions in government, pointing specifically to the 2026 budget presented by the party.

“To know what the NDC can do for Ghanaians depends on the 2026 budget they have just read. We should examine NDC policies, compare them with ours, and present the evidence to Ghanaians,” he stated.

He said the budget would offer a true reflection of the NDC government’s performance and indicate whether the party can fulfil its promises.

Mr. Boamah urged NPP supporters to remain focused, assuring them that the party still has strong policies capable of convincing Ghanaians ahead of future elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the MP stressed that leadership decisions must align with the right timing and divine direction.

“God has His time for everything. I am qualified to run for the presidential primaries, but I feel there is time for everything,” he said.

Mr. Boamah noted that his immediate focus is helping to reorganize and strengthen the NPP as the party seeks to reposition itself with policies that can positively impact the country.

“We are working on fixing the party. We believe we have good policies that will help the country,” he stated.

He added that no firm decision has been made regarding calls for him to contest the flagbearership.

“At God’s appointed time, if it will happen, it will. It’s politics, so if God wants to lift you up, anything could happen,” he said.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the MP stressed his close relationship with current Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and questioned why anyone would link him to a takeover plot.

“There is nobody in Ghana’s Parliament who knows Afenyo-Markin more than I do. We’ve been friends for a long time and are still very close. We exchange ideas,” he said.

He recounted how he backed Afenyo-Markin during attempts by some individuals to unseat him in the 9th Parliament.

“I was one of the people who stood firmly by him when some people wanted to outstage him in this 9th Parliament. We are building young people in the party, so there was no need to change leadership. At that time, he had not even served a year as Majority Leader, and then we lost the election,” he said.

Mr. Boamah emphasised that his priority is helping the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regain power, not pursuing leadership roles in Parliament.

“I am not interested in the Minority Leader position. We must be very strategic. What we discuss internally as a party should not be discussed outside. It’s not good for cohesion,” he cautioned.

He added that maintaining unity within the caucus and its committees is a shared responsibility, especially as the party focuses on rebuilding ahead of the next election.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng writes: Let’s save NPP https://www.adomonline.com/prof-frimpong-boateng-writes-lets-save-npp/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 17:09:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601012 I am amazed at how members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive and some regional chairpersons are going about their daily routine as if they do not know the state of the party, the mood of majority of party members and the potential danger awaiting the party in the near future.

The NPP lost the last general election by a disgraceful margin, and instead of documenting and analysing the factors that led to that painful and disgraceful defeat, and taking remedial measures to prevent future disgrace, the National Executive, hiding behind a spineless National Executive Council (NEC) decided to hide a hastily prepared report from the Ghanaian public.

To add insult to injury, the National Executive again, hiding behind the spineless NEC, took a decision to abandon the time-tested and wise tradition of electing the flagbearer of the party for the next general election two years before the elections when the party is in opposition, and decided a top-down approach of conducting that election almost three years before the next general election.

The incompetent national executive members and their puppet masters that led the party to the abominable and disgraceful defeat are orchestrating these schemes just because they want their preferred candidate to be elected again, whether by fair or foul means, so that they would have a chance of being elected again to the National Executive Committee. Whom do the National Executive and the NEC think they are deceiving?

This top-down approach is the beginning of rigging and corruption of the electoral process. What follows a corrupt internal election is aggrieved NPP members and sympathisers not turning up to vote in a General Election as was witnessed in December 2024.

Do they think discerning NPP members, and for that matter Ghanaians, can’t see the schemes being hatched? Privately, and in some cases openly, people are talking against this pinnacle of corruption and it appears nothing can be done about it. Our fathers and mothers who fought for the independence of the country were not that docile.

The last elections that elected Dr. Bawumia as flagbearer was conducted in a similar fashion, typical of recent NPP internal elections.

The whole of the Akufo-Addo government apparatus and the party machinery were mobilised to favour the election of Dr. Bawumia, the establishment candidate. Weak delegates had their arms twisted, corrupt ones were allegedly bribed, and the cowardly were intimidated to vote for Dr. Bawumia.

The backlash was the staying away of hundreds of thousands of NPP members from voting. Party apathy, coupled with blatant corruption, economic mismanagement, disregard of environmental degradation and “do-nothing” attitude towards pollution of water bodies, must have contributed to the loss of the elections in December 2024

Those who think the party belongs to them and therefore do whatever pleases them are at it again. They will stop at nothing in rigging the evil-intended January 2026 elections for Dr. Bawumia. One of the regional Chairpersons of the NPP shamelessly announced recently that they would do everything in their power to get Dr. Bawumia elected as the flagbearer. The NPP hierarchy and their puppet masters may shamelessly want to add manipulation of the election registers to other corrupt practices they seem to have perfected over the years to conduct the January 2026 one.

What do they take us for? Idiots? No. This fraud must be prevented. The theft must not be allowed to go on. Those who engineered the “top-down” scheme don’t want clean elections

I had always believed that in Ghana the NPP is the only major political party whose foundations are based on the principles of the rule of law, respect for the rights, opinions and dignity of the individual, fundamental human rights, pluralism and above all the separation of powers.

The NPP tradition, as far as I know, does not believe that political power should be entrusted into the hands of one individual or a group of individuals and their family and friends.

It is pathetic that the Chairman of the Council of Elders has allowed the Party to come to this state. Having done a lot of good for the NPP in the past, it would be most unfortunate for the Chairman to end his political career with the NPP in this sorry state.

If I had my way, I would postpone the January 2026 flag-bearer elections and go back to the time-tested down to top approach.

If the ill-conceived January 2026 election is allowed to go on, the NPP stands the risk of another flag-bearer race being supervised by the same biased party machinery which was mobilized to favour Dr. Bawumia, their preferred candidate.

Allowing the January 2026 flagbearer election to be managed by an incompetent National Executive, and supervised by a toothless National Executive Council, removes any level playing field for the other candidates – it favours one candidate, the previously failed flag-bearer.

We endured a variation of “family and friends’ government”, that controlled the press not through violence but through bribery and intimidation. We witnessed the weaponisation of state institutions that attempted to silence transformative voices while allowing patronised corruption to flourish. Instead of development in freedom, we witnessed unprecedented intimidation, economic retrogression, and widespread corruption.

The NPP and its government did not have the balls to curb illegal mining and its attendant destruction of the environment.

Now, the party in opposition does not have the moral courage to criticise the NDC that is neck-deep in galamsey, and has taken environmental destruction to a much higher level.

A resurgent NPP must have the courage to process all the above and in the end come out with people Ghanaians can trust to run the party and a future government. Instead, we are busy looking for problems when the solutions are staring us in the face.

My candid advice or suggestion is that the NPP must be watchful. Don’t fall for any diversionary tactics. Those who conceptualized and are rolling out the top-down election process will stop at nothing to rig the elections for Dr. Bawumia.

It appears Dr. Bawumia is enjoying being used to destroy the NPP. If he cannot read between the lines because of power, fame, and wealth then I want him to think carefully about his future and reputation.

However, if he is aware of the implications of his action, then I would like to call on the sane majority in the NPP to reject this top-down election purposely designed to elect Dr. Bawumia.

As reported by several news outlets and on social media, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo hosted a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the NPP at his private residence in Nima, Accra.

“The meeting was convened..…. to foster a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for 31st January 2026, and to underscore the critical importance of a cohesive party for the 2028 general elections.”

The invitation by the former President gave an indication that he approves and supports the top-down election arrangement that has brought division and acrimony into the NPP.

I am of the strong opinion that anybody who supports such division has no business organising a breakfast or any other meeting to foster camaraderie or unity.

As a Ghanaian saying goes: “One cannot muddy the river upstream and then rush secretly downstream to complain that the river has become muddy and needs treatment”. Such behaviour is the hallmark of a traitor and nation wrecker.

My two questions to delegates are: Do we want those who when in government, neglected the grassroots, ruined the economy of Ghana, and also adopted a lukewarm attitude towards the environment and its biodiversity to be in charge of the NPP again going into the General Elections in December 2028?

Do we want an all-inclusive NPP or one that is controlled by people, including an arrogant “Prime Minister”, a declared fugitive, and their other “Nouveau Riche” family members and friends to continue to control the Party post January 2026? Niemals!

NPP General Secretary marks birthday with donation to orphanage, shares message of party renewal https://www.adomonline.com/npp-general-secretary-marks-birthday-with-donation-to-orphanage-shares-message-of-party-renewal/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 08:39:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600789 The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has marked his birthday with a charitable donation to the Missionaries of Charity New Life Home, continuing a tradition he has upheld for the past decade.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Kodua Frimpong said giving back has become an integral part of his life’s purpose.

“It is something that I’ve been doing for 10 years now. The only way I can show gratitude to God for blessing me with life and good health is to go to places where people are distressed and in need, to help in any way that I can,” he noted.

Essential food items, including bags of rice, gari, beans and other provisions were donated to the Home.

Staff of the home expressed appreciation to the NPP General Secretary for his continued support.

Beyond the charitable gesture, Mr. Kodua Frimpong also shared a message of hope and determination for the NPP following the party’s defeat in the most recent national elections.

According to him, the party has taken important lessons from the experience and is committed to rebuilding.

He highlighted that, for the first time in the party’s history, the NPP will be conducting its presidential election before other internal elections, describing the move as part of broader reforms inspired by lessons from past electoral outcomes.

Mr. Kodua Frimpong concluded by urging party supporters to remain optimistic as the NPP embarks on a renewed path aimed at strengthening internal structures and preparing for future political contests.

We will recover all stolen monies from NPP — NDC National Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/we-will-recover-all-stolen-monies-from-npp-ndc-national-chairman/ Fri, 14 Nov 2025 11:16:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600035 National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has stated that the current government will continue prosecuting corrupt former officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to recover state funds for national development.

Speaking during his thank-you tour in Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, he said President John Dramani Mahama is committed to restoring economic stability and strengthening the cedi.

He emphasized that the government will not relent in pursuing former appointees implicated in corruption.

“We will recover all stolen funds from the NPP and use them to develop the country,” he declared.

Addressing concerns from some NDC supporters who feel overlooked after the party’s electoral victory, Asiedu Nketia urged patience, noting that President Mahama is currently addressing challenges left behind by former President Nana Akufo-Addo and the previous NPP administration.

In his welcome remarks, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Joseph Antwi Awal said ongoing conflicts in the area have negatively affected school performance. He praised the joint security forces for maintaining peace in the municipality and surrounding communities.

The MCE also appealed to chiefs and residents to continue promoting unity to ensure sustained development. He further requested the construction of the Nkwanta–Dadiase and Nkwanta–Kue border roads to boost economic activities in the region.

In a statement signed by National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha, the group expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged the Acting Minister of Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to conduct a thorough inquiry to determine the causes.

“This is very unfortunate and unacceptable in an era of advanced technology,” the statement read.

The group expressed concern over videos circulating on social media showing thousands of young Ghanaians struggling to secure advantageous positions.

The NPP Youth Wing questioned the adequacy of preparations and crowd management during the recruitment exercise. It also raised concerns about the absence of batching for applicants despite the large turnout and whether officers on duty handled the situation appropriately.

“There are too many questions that demand answers,” the statement added.

The group emphasised that the youth involved were simply seeking opportunities to serve their country and improve their lives — aspirations that should never end in tragedy.

The statement concluded by offering condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Boadu said he possesses the experience, vision, and strategies needed to rebuild the party’s internal structures and position it for future electoral victories.

“The party is in a poor state, and I want to lead its revival,” he said.

He revealed plans to establish a supervisory department to oversee all key units, including human resources and logistics, to ensure efficiency and readiness for elections.

“I plan to create a department that will supervise all other departments, including human resources and logistics, to ensure efficiency and readiness to win elections,” he explained.

Mr. Boadu underscored the need to empower critical executives such as the General Secretary and National Organiser, stressing that effective management and coordination are essential to the NPP’s success.

Highlighting his extensive experience within the party, he noted that he has served in multiple capacities and contributed to every major campaign from 2000 to 2020.

Why NPP must rebrand like NDC – John Boadu reveals [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/why-npp-must-rebrand-like-ndc-john-boadu-reveals-listen/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 11:58:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598632 Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has stated the need to rebrand the party to restore its appeal among Ghanaians as he officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Boadu described his campaign as a “new initiative to rebrand the NPP.”

He noted that negative perceptions of the party have lingered and must be addressed.

“Some of these things are very negative. It’s the kind of image people have of the NPP, and we must rebrand properly; otherwise, people will continue seeing us in the same light,” he said.

Reflecting on electoral trends in tertiary institutions, he noted that the NDC has gained ground in recent years.

“Even in tertiary schools, the NDC now wins most elections, and I don’t understand why. Back when I was National Youth Organizer, the NPP won almost everywhere, including Ho Polytechnic,” he recalled.

According to Mr. Boadu, the NDC’s success is largely due to their rebranding efforts.

“They rebranded their party, even with the shade of their colours, their shirts, and all, and it made a huge difference. We must do more as a party, and we must do it well,” he said.

He added that the NPP has lost touch with key stakeholders, including members of the middle class, and must take steps to reconnect with them.

“We need a proper consultation to look at the party and make it attractive again. We have to regain the confidence of major stakeholders who have stood with us in the past,” he said.

NPP raises constitutional concerns over nomination of Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice https://www.adomonline.com/npp-raises-constitutional-concerns-over-nomination-of-justice-baffoe-bonnie-as-chief-justice/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 12:18:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598224 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly opposed the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice, describing the decision as a violation of Ghana’s constitutional order.

In a statement dated November 10, 2025, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP argued that the nomination by the Mahama administration was premature since the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo remains the subject of active legal challenges before Ghana’s courts and the ECOWAS Court of Justice.

According to the party, proceeding with a fresh nomination while these cases are still pending “constitutes a pre-emptive assault on the judicial function” and undermines the principle of separation of powers.

The NPP also expressed concern about a potential conflict of interest, noting that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie previously presided over proceedings connected to the very case that enabled his current nomination.

Citing the legal principle nemo judex in causa sua — meaning no one should be a judge in their own cause — the party said the development “erodes public trust in the judiciary and compromises judicial independence.”

While acknowledging Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s years of service on the bench, the NPP described his acceptance of the nomination as “a failure of judicial leadership” and urged him to demonstrate restraint and uphold the highest standards of judicial integrity.

The statement further cautioned the Mahama administration against employing “political force” to influence judicial appointments, warning that such actions could endanger Ghana’s constitutional stability.

The party concluded by reaffirming its commitment to defending the 1992 Constitution, stating that it “will never relent in its duty to safeguard Ghana’s democracy and the rule of law.”

NPP concludes voter album verification ahead of January 2026 presidential primaries https://www.adomonline.com/npp-concludes-voter-album-verification-ahead-of-january-2026-presidential-primaries/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 13:50:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597081 The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has announced the successful completion of its nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise ahead of the party’s presidential primaries, scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Addressing a press conference at the NPP headquarters in Accra, Committee Chairman Joseph Osei-Owusu said the exercise covered all constituencies and external branches of the party.

He revealed that all presidential aspirants would receive the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025, allowing a two-week period for verification and feedback before finalisation.

“The nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise has been successfully concluded. In the interest of transparency and fairness, all aspirants will be furnished with the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025, for verification and feedback,” he stated.

Mr. Osei-Owusu noted that while minor administrative discrepancies, such as spelling errors and omissions, were identified, they did not compromise the integrity or credibility of the register and were being corrected. He also confirmed that delegates who had passed away or forfeited their membership had been removed, in line with the party’s constitution.

The five aspirants vying for the NPP flagbearer slot are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

To ensure transparency, the Committee outlined several measures, including exclusive election-day security by the Ghana Police Service, strict access control at voting centres, and full oversight by the Electoral Commission (EC). The EC will supervise the printing, distribution, and monitoring of ballot papers and enforce operational guidelines to guarantee a credible and peaceful election.

Ahead of the primaries, the Committee will meet with aspirants, the EC, the Police Service, and the National Council of Elders to sign a peace pact.

Mr. Osei-Owusu reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to a free, fair, and transparent process, urging party members and the media to avoid spreading misinformation that could undermine confidence in the elections.

“Together, we will uphold the NPP’s tradition of democratic excellence and institutional discipline,” he assured.

Police investigations confirm Afenyo-Markin assaulted police officer during May 2025 protest https://www.adomonline.com/police-investigations-confirm-afenyo-markin-assaulted-police-officer-during-may-2025-protest/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 13:47:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597091 The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has referred a case involving the Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to the Attorney-General’s Department for study and advice.

In a letter dated June 27, 2025, and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Justice Oppong on behalf of the Director-General of the CID, the Department forwarded a duplicate docket from its Special Investigation Unit (SIU) to the Attorney-General following a reported altercation between Hon. Afenyo-Markin and a police officer during a public demonstration.

According to the CID’s report which has been sighted by Adomonline.com, the incident occurred on May 5, 2025, when operatives from the Cybercrime Unit received a one-minute, 13-second video bearing the official Ghana Police Service watermark.

The footage, captured during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration, showed a physical altercation between police personnel and a group of demonstrators, including Hon. Afenyo-Markin.

Preliminary analysis of the video reportedly revealed the MP striking G/Cpl. Forson Abel, a police officer stationed at the Tesano District, while officers attempted to enforce a restricted boundary marked with metal barricades. The case was subsequently referred to the SIU for investigation.

G/Cpl. Forson Abel later lodged a formal complaint at the Tesano Police Station on May 6, 2025, alleging that he had been assaulted by Hon. Afenyo-Markin.

He presented a police medical report and witness statements from senior police officers, including Superintendent Isane Ocansey and ASPs Sulemana-Jallo Abdulalai and Nicholas Mensah, who corroborated his account of being struck by the MP without provocation.

However, Hon. Afenyo-Markin also filed a counter-complaint on the same day, alleging that he had, in fact, been assaulted by G/Cpl. Forson during the incident.

Following this, a team from the SIU, together with personnel from the Crime Scene Management and Cybercrime Units, visited the scene for crime reconstruction.

Two CCTV cameras at the Accra International Conference Centre were identified as possibly capturing the event, and the National Security Secretariat was requested to provide footage for review.

The CID noted that while video received from the National Security Bureau did not capture the alleged assault, analysis of the initial footage obtained from the Police Public Affairs Department was used to caution Hon. Afenyo-Markin.

He was released on self-recognizance bail in the presence of an independent witness and issued a police medical form for hospital examination.

Statements were also taken from Hon. Sammy Awuku and Richard Ahiagbah, who were reportedly present during the confrontation.

The report, however, indicated that Hon. Afenyo-Markin had failed to return the completed medical form despite several reminders.

The docket has now been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Department for further legal advice on the matter.

NPP unhappy their corrupt practices are coming to light –Kwakye Ofosu https://www.adomonline.com/npp-unhappy-their-corrupt-practices-are-coming-to-light-kwakye-ofosu/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 08:26:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596845 Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being uncomfortable with the government’s ongoing efforts to expose and recover assets linked to corruption during their administration.

His comments follow accusations by the NPP, which has described the Mahama administration’s ongoing anti-corruption drive as a state-sponsored witch hunt targeting former government officials.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, Mr. Ofosu said the NPP’s recent outbursts were a sign of panic, as they fear accountability under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative being implemented by the government.

“They are not happy that their misdeeds, corruption, and corrupt practices while in government are coming to light. They are unhappy that the Government of Ghana is implementing the Operation Recover All Loot, which is a policy we canvassed before the people of Ghana. Through that, we will be able to hold them to account,” he said.

According to him, the opposition’s criticism of the recovery exercise is driven by fear of exposure.

“They think that by holding them to account, they will be exposed for the people of Ghana to see that they were not trustworthy and that they abused the mandate and resources that were given to them. That is the only reason why they are saying the things they are saying,” he added.

The Minister maintained that the government’s actions are rooted in transparency and justice, not political retribution.

“It is difficult to understand how anyone can oppose a process that involves holding public officials to account,” he stressed.

NPP’s “noise” hindering accountability- Kwakye Ofosu https://www.adomonline.com/npps-noise-hindering-accountability-kwakye-ofosu/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 07:59:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596834 The Minister for Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately generating “noise” to hinder the government’s efforts to hold corrupt actors accountable.

He made the observation during an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, November 5, following accusations by the NPP that the John Mahama administration is conducting a systematic campaign of harassment and intimidation against its members through an alleged misuse of state institutions.

However, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu defended the role of the Attorney General [Dr. Dominic Ayine], noting that the office functions strictly within the framework of the law.

“The Attorney General, whose name they often mention to create the impression that he has done something extraordinary, has merely stated that, based on investigations, there is evidence suggesting that an individual may have violated the law,” he said.

“On that basis, the person is taken to court. This is standard legal procedure and does not amount to a conviction.”

He emphasised that prosecutions only occur through due process in the courts, where the accused are given the full opportunity to mount a defence.

“It is for this reason that, after the Attorney General’s announcement, nobody goes to prison immediately,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained.

The Communications Minister described the opposition’s accusations as politically motivated.

“The noises that the NPP are making are designed solely to stop the government from doing the things that meet the expectations of the people of Ghana,” he stated.

“This includes holding to account those who have mismanaged the nation’s finances, caused losses, or engaged in acts that amount to corruption.”

Mr Kwakye Ofosu insisted that the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, further arguing that investigations and prosecutions are standard mechanisms for upholding good governance rather than acts of political persecution.

Speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour of Mpohor, Chairman Dadzie urged delegates not to make the “mistake” of choosing any other flagbearer aspirant, stressing that Dr. Bawumia has already been marketed to the Ghanaian public and remains the party’s most viable candidate.

“He has already been marketed, and now is the time for us to continue standing firmly behind our proven candidates. We must keep supporting Dr. Bawumia,” he said.

Chairman Dadzie assured Dr. Bawumia of the unwavering support of Mpohor delegates, promising to deliver a significant majority of votes from the constituency.

“For Mpohor, we pledge 80 percent of our votes for Dr. Bawumia. We believe he is the only one who can lead us to victory in 2028,” he emphasized.

He added that the constituency would not risk backing a new candidate when Dr. Bawumia already enjoys nationwide recognition and support.

“We will continue to stand by and promote the candidate we have worked so hard to market. He is number three on the ballot paper, and for Mpohor, our choice is clear,” Chairman Dadzie stated.

His endorsement adds to a growing list of party executives across various constituencies publicly declaring support for Dr. Bawumia as the NPP intensifies its internal campaign ahead of the flagbearer election.

In a statement issued by the Constituency Communications Directorate, the party described the incident as a “global shame” and accused the MP of actions that tarnish both the constituency’s and the party’s reputation.

The statement also alleged that Mr. Addo has a history of collaborating with thugs and illegal miners (“galamseyers”) before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.

Additionally, the NPP criticized the MP for failing to deliver on key campaign promises, including the completion of the Ntotroso-Acherensua bridge project, rural electrification in several communities, and partnerships with Newmont Ghana Gold to support small-scale miners.

The constituency leadership commended the swift response of the Inspector General of Police and Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, urging investigative bodies to carry out a fair and impartial probe into the matter without political interference.

The statement concluded with a call for stronger leadership and effective representation in Asutifi North, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability in governance.

The project, which began under the previous NPP administration, has been abandoned, leaving the park in a deplorable state.

According to the MCE, the once vibrant playing field has become barren and unusable, affecting sports development and youth talent nurturing in the area.

Mr. Seidu explained that both the assembly and the Member of Parliament for the area have engaged the contractor, who confirmed that Ghana Gas is financing the project. However, work has yet to resume.

“Yes, they gave it to a contractor. Myself and my Member of Parliament went to Ghana Gas, who is the source of funding, but when are they coming?” he quizzed.

Speaking during an inter-community soccer tournament to select Under-17 players to represent Ejura in the upcoming Inter-District Soccer Competition organized by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Seidu highlighted the municipality’s sporting potential.

“There is a lot of potential in Ejura. Currently, we have four people from Ejura who are playing in national and international teams; they started from this pitch [Public Park].

“Our brothers in the NPP started the astro turf last year but couldn’t finish. Now that President John Dramani Mahama has taken over, we are appealing to the government to help complete this astro turf so that we can develop the potential of our youth through sports,” he stated.

When completed, the Ejura Astro Turf is expected to serve as a major sports hub for the municipality and nearby communities.

According to Yaw Opoku Mensah, “When Dr Adutwum speaks, hope awakens and 2028 draws nearer.”

He noted that the party’s quest for a formidable flagbearer depends on identifying a leader who not only speaks but also inspires confidence and a renewed belief that Ghana can be great again.

“Dr Adutwum demonstrates the ability to lead differently from the system we already know; a system that offers little toward genuine transformation for our party and our country,” Opoku Mensah said.

The Opoku Mensah added that each time Dr Adutwum addresses party members, “hope is reborn within the NPP, and 2028 appears destined to be his time to lead the party to victory and form the next government.”

He concluded that the party now needs “a renewed wave of hope and leadership that will help rediscover its strength and chart a new course toward triumph in 2028.”

NPP distances itself from Asante Akim South MP’s remarks, reaffirms unity https://www.adomonline.com/npp-distances-itself-from-asante-akim-south-mps-remarks-reaffirms-unity/ Sat, 01 Nov 2025 10:58:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594968 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from comments attributed to the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, describing them as unfortunate.

In a statement issued by the Party’s National Secretariat and signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on November 1, the NPP reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to inclusivity, equality, and national cohesion.

“The National Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted with concern certain comments attributed to the Honourable Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, and considers such a statement unfortunate. The Party, therefore, disassociates itself from those remarks,” the statement said.

It added that the NPP remains steadfast in its dedication to building a society where every Ghanaian can meaningfully participate in national development.

“As a political tradition founded on the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, and equal opportunity, the Party remains dedicated to fostering a society where every Ghanaian, irrespective of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or social background, can participate meaningfully in the governance and development of our nation,” it noted.

Reiterating its values, the NPP stressed that membership and recognition within the Party are determined not by identity but by commitment and service.

“The Party emphasises that political membership and recognition within the NPP are not defined by personal attributes or identity, but by one’s loyalty, commitment, and service to the Party’s ideals and the national interest. The NPP, therefore, welcomes all citizens who subscribe to its core values and principles and are willing to contribute to the advancement of Ghana’s democratic and developmental agenda,” the statement concluded.
