Dr Asah-Asante said that it does not help the image of the NPP to have such miscreants causing trouble in the party.

“It is gradually becoming a problem within the NPP that anytime there is a little issue people want to resort to violence. It doesn’t augur well for a party such as NPP to have such miscreants within them to undermine all that they have fought for over the years.

“So, I support the call of Mr Kyerematen that these things must be looked at critically and investigated and those who are culpable are sanctioned,” he said Accra-based TV3.

Mr Kyerematen said the attack on his Polling Agent in the North East Region during the Super Delegates’ Conference on Saturday, August 26 was “an act of total indiscipline”.

Ali Zakaria was hit in the eye and had to be taken to the Baptist Medical Center (BMC) for immediate treatment in an incident.

But Mr Zakaria had to be brought to Accra for further treatment.

Visiting him at the Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Mr Kyerematen, who placed third in the weekend’s elections said the attack at the Nalerigu Senior High School constitutes a dent on the image of the NPP.

He warned that such behavior would not be tolerated by him in the future.

“Frankly, I am very disturbed about what has happened. The party must not put a shine on what has happened.”

The Elections Committee had earlier met him over the incident after he first complained about it in his statement issued after the polls.

NPP Super Delegates Congress: What Akufo-Addo said after voting https://www.adomonline.com/npp-super-delegates-congress-what-akufo-addo-said-after-voting/ Sat, 26 Aug 2023 13:36:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2287561 President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged delegates to elect a unifier to lead the party break the 8-year electoral cycle.

“Things are difficult. I’m the first to admit it. I’ve said it several times. At the end of the day, when the moment comes, Ghanaians will reflect on the best to get us out of these difficulties.”

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote, he disclosed that some persons in the party had asked him to endorse their candidate for the flagbearer position but he refused.

A Special Delegates Congress is currently ongoing at 17 polling stations nationwide, with over 900 delegates expected to vote.

Leading members of the governing party are voting to reduce the number of aspirants from ten to five.

Ahead of the super delegates congress, the NPP leadership warned all delegates that publicly displaying cast ballots constitutes a criminal offense.

The party served notice that those who violate this provision shall be subjected to legal repercussions in accordance with the law.

NPP flagbearer race: I’m 99% sure of being part of top five, 1% deficit the ‘fear delegates’ factor – Kojo Poku https://www.adomonline.com/npp-flagbearer-race-im-99-sure-of-being-part-of-top-five-1-deficit-the-fear-delegates-factor-kojo-poku/ Thu, 24 Aug 2023 13:52:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2286732 An aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kojo Nsafoah Poku, has expressed high hopes for the party’s forthcoming Special Delegates Congress.

He was confident of being part of the top five to contest the presidential slot in the primary scheduled for November 4.

“I’m 99% confident of being part of the top five, the one percent is for the ‘fear delegates’ factor. I am more than confident because of what I’ve been told and the work I have done. I’ve done the work and it will show on Saturday,” he said on Accra-based Neat FM.

He indicated that whoever comes at the top of the five on Saturday’s polls has not cemented his victory in the actual presidential primary.

The energy expert explained that the party bigwigs, regional, constitutional, and past national executives who make up the Super Delegates see politics in a different way from how delegates see it.

“I’ve said that there’s no winner on Saturday. Some are saying some will have a landslide victory, it doesn’t matter, so long as you are part of the top five you are a winner.”

“Maybe it’s a confidence booster for some people but to me, if that’s what you’re relying on to say that you’ll win the November 4 elections then I’m sorry. It’s a different conversation, over 230,000 delegates voting on November 4 is the real deal,” he added.

He asserted that polls that do not include his name as part of the top five to be elected as the party’s presidential candidate are not credible.

To him, the predictions are nowhere near a reflection of what’s on the ground, adding that the polls are a figment of people’s imagination.

Over 900 delegates will partake in Saturday’s congress to cut down the number of presidential aspirants from ten to five.

Alan Kyerematen, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and Kennedy Agyapong have been tipped as the front runners among the five candidates likely to easily cross the first hurdle of the race on August 26.

The other aspirants are Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Boakye Agyarko, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Joe Ghartey and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
