NPP Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/wontumi-abronye-and-others-risk-suspension-if-ag-npp-chairman/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 13:39:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597031 Acting Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Danquah Smith Butey, has announced that the party will not hesitate to suspend key members found guilty of misconduct after a sitting of the Disciplinary Committee scheduled for Friday.

Mr. Butey, who also serves as the first National Vice-Chairman, made this disclosure in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show.

He confirmed that several prominent figures, including Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi; Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye (Abronye DC); Communications Team Member Ernest Owusu Bempah; former Lands Minister Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh; and another lawyer, have all been referred to the committee for alleged breaches of party discipline.

“All misconducts have been referred to the disciplinary committee. They will sit on the cases on Friday, and everyone found culpable will be suspended,” he stated firmly.

Mr. Butey stressed that the NPP would not shield any member, regardless of their influence or position within the party.

“Nobody is above the party, not even me. The committee will write their recommendations, and we will take further action. If they recommend suspension, I won’t hesitate,” he declared.

His comments come amid growing internal tensions and concerns over indiscipline among certain party executives and communicators.

Mr. Butey, who assumed leadership responsibilities following Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim’s medical leave, said his focus is to restore order and unity in the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“I am now the leader of the party, and the boldness and bravery I have is huge. If they recommend suspension, I will not hesitate. They can leave for the party to collapse; the NPP must stand on discipline,” he asserted.

According to insiders, the disciplinary action forms part of a broader effort to sanitize the party’s internal structures and reinforce its commitment to discipline, loyalty, and respect for authority after months of public altercations and factional divisions.

The NPP Disciplinary Committee, chaired by senior party elder Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, is expected to issue its recommendations shortly after Friday’s sitting, paving the way for the National Executive Committee to take final action.

Abronye accepts NPP Disciplinary Committee invitation, proposes open sitting and live broadcast https://www.adomonline.com/abronye-accepts-npp-disciplinary-committee-invitation-proposes-open-sitting-and-live-broadcast/ Tue, 30 Sep 2025 15:13:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2584016 The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, has expressed his readiness to appear before the party’s National Disciplinary Committee following an invitation from General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua.

In a statement dated September 30, 2025, Abronye said he is fully prepared to detail what he described as the “antichrist actions and inactions” of Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, which he claims have undermined the cohesion and integrity of the party.

He also proposed that the committee’s proceedings be held openly and broadcast live, allowing party members to witness what he termed the “manifest antichrist posture and conduct” of Mr. Agyapong.

The referral of Abronye to the National Disciplinary Committee was made in a petition submitted by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The party outlined several allegations against Abronye, describing his actions as unbecoming of a member and detrimental to the unity and integrity of the NPP.

Adwoa Safo fumes over ‘no show’ as she appears before NPP Disciplinary Committee  https://www.adomonline.com/adwoa-safo-fumes-over-no-show-as-she-appears-before-npp-disciplinary-committee/ Mon, 07 Apr 2025 15:56:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2522656 There was a ‘no show’ at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters at Asylum Down, Accra, where former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP) Adwoa Safo was scheduled to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

Accompanied by a charged crowd singing solidarity songs, Adwoa Safo arrived at the party premises ahead of the meeting initially scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, April 7.

However, upon arrival, she discovered that there was no committee sitting—only a party official was present to meet her.

In an interview with the media, an infuriated Adwoa Safo questioned why the party leadership failed to communicate the changes to her.

She said she was served the summons letter on Sunday, April 6, 2025, but honoured the invitation as a law-abiding citizen.

“There was no committee sitting today. I had an engagement with a national party officer, but there was no hearing. I’m left wondering why I was served a summons on a Sunday for a meeting that didn’t take place.

“If there was a change of plans, why wasn’t I personally informed? Why wasn’t I contacted by phone? Some of you have my number directly,” she fumed.

She also criticised the party leadership for failing to act seriously and professionally.

“As a party, we need to take these matters more seriously. I came here ready for the committee meeting, but now I find myself in a situation where there’s no hearing, no committee, and no explanation. This could have been handled much more effectively,” she lamented.

As a lawyer, she pointed out that when someone is referred to a disciplinary committee, the presumption is that they have committed a wrongdoing and are facing disciplinary action.

“That is the purpose of the disciplinary committee. So why ridicule me in public and then tell me that the committee isn’t even sitting?

“The message being sent to the public is that I have done something wrong, something untoward, and that I have come here to be disciplined,” she stated.

The former Gender Minister reaffirmed her commitment to the party and confirmed her availability for any future disciplinary hearings, should she be called upon.

“I will be available to appear before the party whenever I’m called upon. I’ve come here, but there is no one here, which suggests the case is either baseless or there is no finding on it.

“I thought this matter could have been handled better, which is why I came here today to see what was happening—only to find nothing has been done. Is this how I’m being treated? It’s disheartening,” she concluded.

Adwoa Safo set to appear before NPP Disciplinary Committee today https://www.adomonline.com/adwoa-safo-set-to-appear-before-npp-disciplinary-committee-today/ Mon, 07 Apr 2025 06:12:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2522327 Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is expected to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) today, April 7, 2025.

The hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and will take place at the NPP Headquarters Conference Room in Asylum Down, Accra.

The former MP has been advised to present any relevant documentary evidence or witnesses in relation to the case under review.

According to a statement issued on March 20 by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, Adwoa Safo was referred to the Committee for allegedly violating party directives.

This action follows a series of media interviews in which she discussed internal party matters, despite a clear directive instructing members to refrain from doing so.

Party leadership considers her public comments as detrimental to the NPP’s ongoing efforts to rebuild and unify, especially in the wake of the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. Her actions, they believe, have further deepened internal tensions and hampered reconciliation efforts.

The outcome of today’s hearing could have significant implications for Adwoa Safo’s standing within the party, as well as for broader disciplinary enforcement in the NPP moving forward.

We’re yet to receive any letter from NPP – Adwoa Safo’s aide [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/were-yet-to-receive-any-letter-from-npp-adwoa-safos-aide-audio/ Fri, 21 Mar 2025 16:44:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2517605

An aide to former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has revealed that no official letter has been received from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership concerning her referral to the Disciplinary Committee.

The NPP, in a statement issued by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, referred Adwoa Safo to the Committee following her recent media remarks about the 2024 electoral defeat.

This decision came after she violated the NPP’s earlier directive cautioning members against making public statements that could create division within the party.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Nana Dubin Kwapong, an aide to Adwoa Safo, confirmed that while he had seen the statement widely circulated on social media, there had been no official communication sent to her.

However, he expressed the former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection’s readiness to honor the invitation when notified.

“So far as I am concerned, as of now, I haven’t seen any document on her table. I will be lying if I say I haven’t seen it on social media, but I can’t ascertain whether it is authentic or not,” Kwapong said. “It could be that the viral document is true, but we haven’t received it. She is a lawyer and not bigger than the party, so if she is invited, she will definitely go.”

Adwoa Safo to face NPP disciplinary committee https://www.adomonline.com/adwoa-safo-to-face-npp-disciplinary-committee/ Thu, 20 Mar 2025 17:28:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2517214 The  New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred its former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, to the disciplinary committee for violating party directives.

The party’s decision stems from Adwoa Safo’s recent interview, where she discussed internal party matters publicly, despite a directive for members to refrain from such actions.

A statement signed by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua highlighted that Adwoa Safo was expected to set a positive example for others.

However, her comments have been viewed as undermining the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward after the emotional distress and disappointment members experienced following the party’s defeat in the last election.

The NPP reiterated the importance of unity and calm as it focuses on its recovery and future success.
