Manhyia South NPP chairman warns of alleged NDC ‘plot’ ahead of December 7 election https://www.adomonline.com/manhyia-south-npp-chairman-warns-of-alleged-ndc-plot-ahead-of-december-7-election/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 15:36:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466235 Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta, the Manhyia South Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has raised concerns over what he claims is a “hidden agenda” by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 elections.

Known popularly as “Tom Tom,” he suggested that the NDC’s lack of campaign activity is an indicator that they are plotting to disrupt the election process.

In an interview with Angel FM on Wednesday, October 30, Tom Tom asserted that whenever the NDC refrains from active campaigning close to elections, it signals an intention to “cause disorder and confusion.”

He noted, “As we can all see, the NDC has not been campaigning. We must be watchful of this tactic, as it suggests they may execute their plans through destabilizing acts.”

Tom Tom highlighted the contrast between the NPP and NDC campaigns, pointing out that the NPP’s “four-pronged strategy” involves active participation from their presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO); and their spouses, Samira Bawumia and Alma Pokua Opoku Prempeh.

He commended their vigorous efforts, emphasizing that the NPP’s team is fully engaged in reaching multiple constituencies daily, whereas the NDC’s candidate, John Mahama, appears less visible on the campaign trail.

In a further comparison, he praised Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s extensive campaign efforts, stating that NAPO is often more visible than his NDC counterpart, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

He also noted Samira Bawumia’s active presence in communities across Ghana, contrasting it with Lordina Mahama’s low profile.

Additionally, he acknowledged Alma Opoku Prempeh’s contributions to the NPP’s campaign efforts, contrasting her presence with the absence of any similar involvement from Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s spouse.

Tom Tom concluded by urging Ghanaians to remain vigilant against any potential disruptions during the election, cautioning that elections are won at polling stations, not through “crude tactics.”

He warned, “We should not allow any political party to create confusion during the election through ballot snatching and other acts.”

He further alleged that recent protests were orchestrated by the NDC to sow discord and credited NPP Members of Parliament for maintaining calm during recent parliamentary sessions.

“Nothing was retrieved from the house but to me, if there’s life, there’s hope because my old Lady (Mother) was rescued from her room and she is worth more than any property. So, I thank Allah”, Alhaji Sulemana Iddrisu indicated.

Mr Sulemana, who said this in an interview with Myjoyonline said he received a call from home that, his house had been burnt into ashes.

“The only thing I said was, I thank Almighty Allah for giving me that gift (House) because my mother was on admission and discharged on Saturday then, the fire occurred on Sunday. If it’s not the doing of Allah, who else could be”, he queried.

The house was gutted by fire around 4:35 pm on Sunday 11th February 2024 with several properties destroyed.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service in the Sagnarigu Municipality led by Station Officer Dauda Basit, said despite their prompt arrival at the scene, it was too late to save anything useful.

He, however, said the additional pumps from the fire station made it possible for them to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses and properties.

He said he suspects an electrical fault as the immediate cause but added that “the whole thing is still under investigation because the fire started from one room and spread to the rest.”

Personal valuables like land documents, certificates, motorcycles, flat-screen television sets, fridges, clothes, and foodstuff among others were burnt.

An eyewitness, Sulemana Sheriff, who was in his room when the fire started, spoke to Myjoyonline.

He said his little boy who was playing outside the house first spotted smoke coming out from the top of the roof of his mother’s room and drew their attention.

“I came out to go to town and saw the children sitting inside a tricycle and I ordered them out and left. But I returned shortly and was in my room watching television. And in less than 30 minutes, my wife rushed to tell me that our son said he saw smoke coming from her room.”

“So, I rushed outside and first removed the fuse from the meter but the moment we picked out our old lady (mother) to safety, the fire quickly started spreading to every part of the house, Sulemana Sheriff indicated.

Meanwhile, sympathisers from all walks of life, including politicians from the two major political parties and religious groups in Savannah and Northern Regions turned out in their numbers to console the NPP Regional Chairman and his family.

This was after the Chairman, Awudu Issaka and his accomplices, Ibrahim Issifu and Baba Adams pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the Court.

The metals are valued at GHC40,000, according officials of the Ghana Highway Authority.

The prosecutor, Inspector George Oteng revealed that sometime in July, 2019, Ibrahim Issifu and Baba Adams while riding in car with registration number GW 934-13 were stopped by the Police at a barrier between Oda and Oda Nkwanta.

According to him, the suspects carried some heavy metals on the Kia car they were driving.

He said when the Police questioned Ibrahim Issifu about the metals, he claimed ownership but told the officers that he bought them from a Ghana Highway Authority staff.

He explained that the suspects called Awudu Issaka, who spoke to the Police to allow them passage.

The NPP Chairman, the prosecutor said intervened. But the two were later arrested and arraigned.

The Court, in its first sitting issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Chairman Awudu Issaka for failing to appear before it but the warrant was cancelled after his lawyer, Richard Ofen had told the Court his client was ill.

Speaking to the media after proceedings, Awudu Issaka explained that he only intervened because he knew them as an NPP polling station executive and a decent businessman in the constituency.

According to Mr Aliu, despite the nominee being his niece, he cannot in any way support her for the job.

This, he explained, is due to her instability in the party and her dedication in the area.

“She is my sister’s daughter but I cannot support her because party business is different from family affairs and I can’t mix them.

“She left the party after her mother, who is National Democratic Congress, was given an appointment and her brother was made the Zoomlion Coordinator. She only rejoined in 2017 and I cannot fathom why she was appointed instead of SK Orlando who we all supported,” he disclosed on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show, Monday.

Mr Aliu follows attacks on his household and the destruction of party office by some irate youth on Sunday over Hajia Zuweira’s nomination.

The youth started their agitation about three days ago, kicking against her appointment with the explanation that she joined the party recently.

But Mr Aliu says though he is not in support of the nominee, the action of the youth was wrong and must be condemned.

To him, their action only means they have no respect for him as the Chairman.

“I don’t care about whatever will happen since the youth decided to act their own way. I could have allowed them to hold a demo to express their displeasure or rallied the assemblymembers to vote against her but now I will just watch on,” he stated.

The monies which are made through mobile money (Momo) accounts are said to have been released but allegedly stashed in the account of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Central Regional chairman, Robert Kingsford Kutin.

A member of the Central Regional Security Council and NADMO Director, Joe Donkor claims one Khadidja Anderson told them about the presence of the money in the chairman’s account at a meeting held at the Regional Secretariat.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Donkor said there was a recorded tape of Madam Khadija to that effect.

According to her, the tape has been doctored to tarnish her image as she bemoaned why someone will record her at such a meeting.

She added that the payments have been delayed due to the absence of a momo merchant account to be used to hold the money for the transfer to the caterers.

Another reason for the delay, she said, was due to invalid details provided by some of the caterers.

This comes after the incumbent Member of Parliament, lawyer Andrews Amoako, speaking in an interview, accused him of manipulating the constituency to favour other aspirants.

However, Chairman Nti, reacting to the allegations on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem, stressed there was no way he could influence the process, especially when he is not the one to compile the album.
