Dr. Amoah, a member of Mr. Agyapong’s campaign strategy team, described him as the “Joshua” appointed to lead Ghana into its promised land.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he emphasised that Mr. Agyapong has been ordained by God and that his campaign team remains resolute in their mission.

The former Deputy Finance Minister backed his remarks with a biblical reference from 2 Timothy 1:7, which states: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

“He is the Joshua. God has appointed him to take Ghana to our promised land. If the NPP wants him, fine. But if not, there is no need to intimidate or cause fear, because God has not given us the spirit of timidity,” he declared.

“The deceit, lies and manipulation will not take us anywhere. If we want to adopt a Cinderella syndrome—knowing who the shoe fits but keeping him locked away—it is unto us,” he added.

Dr. Amoah’s remarks come in response to the recent public endorsement of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by over 60 NPP MPs, in support of his second presidential bid.

Describing the move as “propaganda,” he accused certain factions within the NPP of pressuring MPs, particularly first-timers, into publicly endorsing Dr. Bawumia.

He urged first-time lawmakers to stand their ground and resist any form of blackmail or intimidation.

‘New aspirants signal anger, pain within NPP after 2024 election loss’ – Dr. Acheampong https://www.adomonline.com/new-aspirants-signal-anger-pain-within-npp-after-2024-election-loss-dr-acheampong/ Mon, 05 May 2025 06:08:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2531446 Political risk analyst and economist Dr. Theo Acheampong says the emergence of new contenders to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a direct sign of deep cracks within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) following its 2024 electoral defeat.

Speaking on Newsfile Express on Saturday, May 3, he pointed to a wave of frustration brewing within the party, suggesting that figures like former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum are testing the waters due to unresolved internal discontent.

“I think this week, we saw a post from Dr. Yaw Adutwum, which was subsequently deleted, more or less intimating that maybe he’s putting his hat in the race,” Dr. Acheampong revealed.
“That tells you something. And there are others too.”

Asked if Dr. Yaw Adutwum looked like a credible challenger, he replied, “I think he has what it takes. I’m sure there are other people, too, who have what it takes. I’m sure Dr. Bawumia would want to go again. It’s not for me to judge. It’s for the people that belong to the party to make that decision.”

But for him, the emergence of alternative voices is not just about ambition—it reflects a lingering bitterness that has yet to be addressed.

“The fact that other people are even intimating or putting in a bid for a run, and the fact that these issues are happening on the [Bawumia] Thank You Tour, shows me that there’s still a lot of anger and there’s still a lot of pain,” he said.
“And they want to change things. But the way you want to change things is not because of religion. You’ve got to fundamentally address the issues that took you to opposition.”

Dr. Acheampong didn’t mince words on what, in his view, caused the party’s downfall.

“The NPP lost the 2024 election not because of religion, but because of the economy. It is as simple as that,” he declared.
“The evidence on the religious argument is just complete hogwash. You can slice and dice the data how you want, but you come to a very firm and simple conclusion.”

He was blunt in dismissing arguments that blamed the Vice President’s Muslim identity for the NPP’s loss.

“It cannot be that it is because they put a candidate who had a different religious tag than those in other parts of the country,” he said.
“When people are hungry, facing cost-of-living pressures and inflation over 54%, it’s not about whether one is Muslim or Christian. That doesn’t put food on the table.”

Citing economic policy failures such as the Domestic Debt Exchange and the unpopular E-Levy, he said the ruling party ignored clear signs of public dissatisfaction.

“I was among the best people to actually call for the sacking of Ken Ofori-Atta, because his position had become untenable,” he said.
“It is those issues that sent the elephant back into the bush again.”

Dr. Acheampong even referenced Dr. Bawumia’s own admissions.

“He said it himself—it was partly to do with the cost-of-living crisis, and partly to do with the arrogance of power. To borrow the same words.”

He urged a closer look at electoral data to debunk the religious narrative, stating that the NPP lost votes across all regions regardless of religious demographics, while the NDC made gains almost everywhere.

“Even in the NDC, they presented 215 Christians, and out of that number, 74 lost,” he pointed out. “So religion didn’t determine the outcome there either.”

For him, the party’s internal troubles stretch beyond statistics.

He said Dr. Bawumia’s ongoing Thank You Tour has laid bare just how fragile the party’s unity remains.

“The candidate did not take the other ones along. And they are trying to convey a message of unity this time around. But what we are seeing on the tour also shows that, look, there is still pain and there is still anger amongst the hierarchy and the grassroots.”

He was clear about what the NPP needs to do next.

“They have to own up and apologise to Ghanaians,” he said. “The warning signs have been there throughout.”

NPP has a chance to win 2028 election if… – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/npp-has-a-chance-to-win-2028-election-if-bawumia/ Mon, 28 Apr 2025 16:02:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2529587 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed hope that they stand a chance of winning the 2028 elections if they correct their wrongs and stay united.

Dr. Bawumia was addressing NPP grassroots and supporters in Goaso, in the Ahafo Region, on the third day of his nationwide Thank You Tour.

He is being accompanied by the NPP national executives and some of his fellow contenders in the party’s 2024 presidential primaries.

According to him, the NPP government under former president Akufo-Addo implemented several policies and interventions to benefit the Ghanaian people.

He, however, admitted that anger among many Ghanaians over certain government decisions led to the good policies going unrecognized.

He pointed out that Ghanaians voiced similar sentiments when the Kufuor administration left office, but after the NDC took over, they came to appreciate that Kufuor had good intentions for the country.

The former Vice President, therefore, believes that Akufo-Addo will also be remembered the same way.

He said that the NPP still has the track record as the party with many social-centered policies and that with unity and learning from their previous mistakes, they can stage a strong comeback in 2028.

NPP will lose 2028 election if… – Dominic Nitiwul [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/npp-will-lose-2028-election-if-dominic-nitiwul-video/ Tue, 11 Feb 2025 11:36:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2503111 Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) risks losing the 2028 election if it does not put its house in order.

According to him, the party must focus on rebuilding instead of jostling for internal positions, which may lead to conflicts.

“People are all over blaming others for what went wrong. Big party people go on platforms and say all sorts of things. Who are we talking to? Do we think people are not listening and won’t use it against us? It is just like when you are under arrest; we should remember that whatever we say will be used against us in 2028,” he cautioned.

Mr. Nitiwul, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bimbilla, was speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.

“What helped the NDC is that they had just one person, and they all united and rallied behind him. As a party in opposition, there weren’t many allegations against him, unlike the NPP, whose appointees were accused of stealing and other wrongdoings,” he said.

Acknowledging that the NPP suffered from voter apathy in the 2024 election, Mr. Nitiwul noted that it was due to several factors and not just disaffection toward the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

“The seat of apathy was a combination of several factors—behavior of appointees, internal elections, actions of government, among others,” he stated.

Despite the NPP’s shocking defeat in the election, the MP said the party should be grateful to its members.

“They probably refused to go and vote because they do not like Mahama as a person or the NDC, and that is good for us.

“So we should do our homework well, talk to our people, and stop destroying each other one month after an election. Where are we rushing to, and what are we looking for?” he quizzed.
